Solar System: Things to Know This Week

Our Juno mission has been exploring Jupiter since July 2016 with a special passenger on board: JunoCam, an instrument designed to take spectacular close-up color images of the largest planet in our solar system. From the raw images, citizen scientists have processed a range of beautiful photographs that highlight Jupiter’s features, even turning them into works of art. Below, 10 stunning images JunoCam has given us over the past year.

1. Jovian tempest.

This color-enhanced image of a massive, raging storm in Jupiter’s northern hemisphere was captured by our Juno spacecraft during its ninth close flyby on Oct. 24, 2017. The storm is rotating counter-clockwise with a wide range of cloud altitudes, and the darker clouds are expected to be deeper in the atmosphere than the brightest clouds.

2. A southern stunner.

Jupiter’s southern hemisphere shows off in beautiful detail in this image taken on Oct. 24, 2017. The color-enhanced view captures one of the white ovals in the “String of Pearls,” one of eight massive rotating storms at 40 degrees south latitude on the gas giant planet.

3. Dreaming in color.

Artist Mik Petter created this unique digital piece using data from the JunoCam. The art form, known as fractals, uses mathematical formulas to create an infinite variety of form, detail, color and light. The original JunoCam image was taken on July 10, 2017.

4. Jovian moon shadow.

Jupiter’s moon Amalthea casts a shadow on the gas giant planet in this image taken on Sept. 1, 2017. The elongated shape of the shadow is a result of both the location of the moon with relation to Jupiter in this image as well as the irregular shape of the moon itself.

5. 95 minutes over Jupiter.

Once every 53 days, Juno swings close to Jupiter, speeding over its clouds. In about two hours, the spacecraft travels from a perch over Jupiter’s north pole through its closest approach (perijove), then passes over the south pole on its way back out. This sequence shows 11 color-enhanced images from Perijove 8 (Sept. 1, 2017) with the south pole on the left (11th image in the sequence) and the north pole on the right (first image in the sequence).

6. Soaring high.

This striking image of Jupiter was taken on Sept. 1, 2017 as Juno performed its eighth flyby. The spacecraft was 4,707 miles (7,576 kilometers) from the tops of the clouds of the planet at a latitude of about -17.4 degrees. Noteworthy: “Whale’s Tail” and “Dan’s Spot.”

7. In true color.

This true-color image offers a natural color rendition of what the Great Red Spot and surrounding areas would look like to human eyes from Juno’s position. The image was taken on July 10, 2017 as the Juno spacecraft performed its seventh close flyby of Jupiter.

8. The ‘face’ of Jupiter.

JunoCam images aren’t just for art and science—sometimes they’re created for a good chuckle. This image, processed by citizen scientist Jason Major, is titled “Jovey McJupiterface.” By rotating the image 180 degrees and orienting it from south up, two white oval storms turn into eyeballs, and the “face” of Jupiter is revealed. The original image was taken by the Juno spacecraft on May 19, 2017.

9. Bands of clouds.

This enhanced-color image of Jupiter’s bands of light and dark clouds was created by citizen scientists Gerald Eichstädt and Seán Doran. Three of the white oval storms known as the “String of Pearls” are visible near the top of the image. Each of the alternating light and dark atmospheric bands in this image is wider than Earth, and each rages around Jupiter at hundreds of miles (kilometers) per hour. The lighter areas are regions where gas is rising, and the darker bands are regions where gas is sinking. Juno captured the image on May 19, 2017.

10. The edge.

This enhanced-color image of a mysterious dark spot on Jupiter seems to reveal a Jovian “galaxy” of swirling storms. Juno captured this image on Feb. 2, 2017 and citizen scientist Roman Tkachenko enhanced the color to bring out the rich detail in the storm and surrounding clouds. Just south of the dark storm is a bright, oval-shaped storm with high, bright, white clouds, reminiscent of a swirling galaxy. As a final touch, he rotated the image 90 degrees, turning the picture into a work of art.

Solar System: Things to Know This Week

Almost every day, we receive a message from a spacecraft more than 10.6 billion miles (about 17 billion km) away.

At that unimaginable distance, it takes the radio signal almost 16 hours to arrive. The spacecraft is Voyager 2, which launched 40 years ago this month. It’s still operating, sending back dispatches from the dark reaches well beyond the orbit of Pluto. Even now, scientists are still actively exploring the outer boundaries of the solar system using Voyager 2, decades after its “Grand Tour” of the giant planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune revealed their splendors like never before. This week, we recall 10 highlights from one of the most epic voyages in human history.

1. A Journey of 10 Billion Miles Begins With the First Step

Voyager 2 set out from Earth on Aug. 20, 1977. Even though it launched before its twin spacecraft, Voyager 1, it carried the ‘2’ moniker because mission planners knew its trajectory would bring it to Jupiter after Voyager 1’s arrival there.

2. The Grand Tour

Voyager 2’s trajectory was special because it took advantage of a rare orbital alignment to fly by all four gas giant planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. It was the first, and so far the only, spacecraft to carry out a close-up reconnaissance of Uranus and Neptune.

3. Not-So-Gentle Giant

Voyager 2 flew by Jupiter in April 1979, capturing striking images of the planet’s volcanic moon Io and its violent storms larger than the entire Earth.

4. Saturn’s Not the Only One

Jupiter has its own ring system, and Voyager 2 provided the first pictures.

5. An Ocean Under Ice

During its Jupiter encounter, Voyager 2 obtained close-up looks at Jupiter’s moon Europa, including linear cracks and other features which first led scientists to realize Europa probably hides a vast sea of liquid water beneath an icy shell, the first known world outside Earth that could have an ocean.

6. Ringworld, the Prequel

Voyager 2 zoomed through the Saturn system in August 1981. It saw hints of mysterious features that the Cassini mission would later reveal in stunning detail, including Enceladus, with its bright surface that suggested geologic activity, and Saturn’s intriguing hexagonal jet stream.

7. Swiftly by a Tilted Planet

In January 1984, Voyager offered humanity its first detailed look at the seventh planet, Uranus, the only one tilted on its side relative to the Sun. Voyager images revealed 11 new moons, including Juliet, Puck, Cressida, Rosalind and Ophelia. The moon Miranda presented a bizarre landscape that left scientists debating its origins for years. Voyager also captured views of the planet’s lacy rings, and found that it is the coldest in the solar system, at minus 353 degrees Fahrenheit (59 Kelvin).

8. In Neptune’s Blue Realm

After picking up a gravitational speed boost at each previous planetary encounter, by the time Voyager reached Neptune it shot through the entire system of Neptunian rings and moons in a matter of hours. Voyager saw a titanic storm in Neptune’s windy atmosphere, discovered new moons, and revealed active geysers erupting on Triton’s frigid surface.

9. Postcards From the Edge

Although their cameras are no longer functioning, other key scientific instruments on board both Voyager spacecraft are still collecting data. Voyager 1 is exploring the boundary between the Sun’s realm and interstellar space. Voyager 2 hasn’t traveled quite as far. In September 2007, it crossed the termination shock (where the speed of the solar wind of charged particles drops below the speed of sound) at a point about 84 Astronomical Units from the Sun (more than twice the distance to Pluto). See https://go.nasa.gov/2uwrndb

10. Ride Along

Voyager’s mission is far from over. Engineers estimate the spacecraft will have enough power to operate into the mid-2020s. You can ride along at www.jpl.nasa.gov/voyager, or by following @NASAVoyager on Twitter and by downloading our free 3-D space simulation software, Eyes on the Solar System at eyes.nasa.gov.

One more thing: Inspired by the messages of goodwill carried on Voyager’s Golden Record, you’re invited to send a short, uplifting message to Voyager and all that lies beyond it via social media. With input from the Voyager team and a public vote, one of these messages will be selected for us to beam into interstellar space on Sept. 5, 2017—the 40th anniversary of Voyager 1’s launch. Post your message on social media with the tag #MessageToVoyager by Aug 15. Details: www.jpl.nasa.gov/voyager/message/

I got bored and decided to highlight ten of my favorite weird/eccentric singers in modern music. Maybe they aren’t the greatest singers of all time, but they’re all unique and unmistakable. Each of them have singing voices that make you go “WTF is this?!” upon first listen, but then you slowly grow to appreciate them as you listen to more material.

  1. Yma Sumac - The godmother of all eccentric voices. This Peruvian soprano both confused and bewildered 1950s audiences with her five octave vocal range, animal imitations, and “exotica” style of music, which mainly consisted of mambos and Latin American folk tunes. Most of the other people on this liste have traces of her influence in their vocal deliveries. Check out: Tumpa and Chuncho.
  2. Screamin’ Jay Hawkins - Once an aspiring opera singer, this R&B star single-handedly created the “shock rock” genre that performers like Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson later adopted. Emerging from coffins, evoking voodoo rituals, and scream-bellowing his way through songs about everything from soul possession to constipation? Yep, he did it. Oh yeah, and he’s rumored to have fathered over 75 children. Check out: I Put a Spell on You and Constipation Blues.
  3. Tiny Tim - While often regarded as a novelty act, this falsetto nostalgist was actually quiet sincere with his performances. His ukulele renditions of squeaky clean 1930s pop tunes led to stardom in the 1960s, although his fame quickly faded. He would later find posthumous recognition through the use of his music in cartoons like Spongebob Squarepants. Check out: Living in the Sunlight and this bizarre cover of Earth Angel.
  4. Kate Bush - The queen of baroque prog-pop (if that’s even a genre) known for singing self-penned (and self-performed and produced) tunes with a breathy, child-like timbre that’s hard to describe. Her live performances and music videos were equally as hard to describe, but nonetheless captivating. While she was a mega-star in the UK and much of Europe, her peculiar style never caught on in the US. Check out: Wuthering Heights and Sat in your Lap.
  5. Klaus Nomi - Occasionally there are singers whose voices are so strange that words fail to describe them, and this German avant-garde performer is one of them. Part soprano, part alien, and part walking pop art, his style was unmistakable, if also a bit too weird for even other weirdos to process. Still, there is a beauty about his style that shines through, especially in live performances. Check out: The Cold Song and The Nomi Song.
  6. Diamanda Galas - Her nickname in the ‘80s was “The wife of the devil”, and it’s not hard to understand why. She too started her career as an opera singer and took a turn into weird and frightening territory beginning with 1982′s nightmarish LP The Litanies of Satan. With a shrieking 5 ½ octave vocal range and infamous live performances that could scare the bejesus out of anybody, there has never been anybody quite like her before or since. Check out: Double Barrel Prayer and her cover of I Put a Spell on You.
  7. Bjork - This Icelandic maverick started her career as part of numerous alt rock bands before embarking on a highly successful solo career. While her self-produced, eclectic music was always a bit off-kilter, she has only continued to get stranger over the years, but her clear, arresting howl has stayed the same. Her influence is insurmountable, ranging from Thom Yorke to FKA Twigs and beyond. Check out: Human Behavior and Crystalline.
  8. Mike Patton - Best known for his work with Faith No More, he could only best be described as a vocal freak of nature. Possessing a monstrous six octave vocal range (the widest of any singer in modern music), he has mastered death metal, Italian pop tunes, experimental jazz, Native American chants and literally everything in-between. His style has no limits, nor do his songs from various projects, which often jump through multiple genres in the span of three minutes. Check out: Smaller and Smaller (with Faith No More) and My Ass is on Fire (with Mr. Bungle).
  9. Tanya Tagaq - Another performer of “exotic” music by Western standards, this Inuk throat singer takes music traditional to her culture and puts a plethora of innovative spins on it. Alternating between hums, buzzes, coos, and clean vocals, she is primarily a storyteller, using her voice as an instrument to paint striking mental images. Recently she won the 2014 Polaris Prize for music and caused controversy by paying homage to thousands of murdered indigenous women as part of her performance at the ceremony. Check out: Improv Performance and Uja.
  10. Julie Christmas - What would Cinderella become if Prince Charming jilted her? One listen to this Julliard-trained maniac’s voice, and you’ll get the hint. Known for her work with Made out of Babies and Battle of Mice, Christmas can go from sweet to psychotic at the snap of a finger, her vocal delivery terrifying yet intriguing to even the most hardened of metal critics. Her recent solo work is further proof of her vocal acrobatics - a fallen Disney princess, indeed. Check Out: Cooker (with Made out of Babies) and Bones in the Water (with Battle of Mice).
It’s a striking image: Swift’s name written over and over again as she looks on, emotionless and partially engulfed by the words. […] Regardless, there’s a darker aesthetic at work here, and that’s an exciting musical development for a brilliant songwriter who has flirted with her edgier side but never fully unpacked it.

Time’s Powerful New Cover Reminds The World The Resistance To Trump Has Arrived

“Time Magazine has used its February 8 cover to drive home the significance of the Women’s March on Washington. The cover, complete with the headline “The Resistance Rises,” features a striking image of the now-infamous pink “pussy hat.

The cover is a strong comment on powerful resistance that has formed in response to President Donald Trump, with a specific focus on the influence the Women’s March - which close to 3 million people are estimated to have attended worldwide -has had on public consciousness.

“There is no precedent in U.S. history for the show of collective outrage that answered Trump’s Inauguration,” wrote Time’s Karl Vick in the magazine’s cover story. “But then, there is no precedent for Trump.”

Missing Homework (SMUT)

Namjoon x Reader Smut (Teacher AU)

Word Count: 2049

Your POV

“Dammit, I should have just copied the work off someone else,” you thought as you stayed behind for lunch as your teacher had something to “discuss” with you. You knew it had to do with the ton of missing assignments that you had been putting off. It wasn’t your fault you had to practically take care of your parents and siblings! And really, you didn’t exactly find his subject very interesting, so why waste your time.

“Good luck!,” your friend called before she closed the door behind her, leaving you and your teacher, Mr.Kim, alone in the room. His room was rather simple, as expected from the rather blunt male. He was rather notorious for giving straight forward answers and opinions, but every student knew he was a very kind and gentle man at heart. He had a soft spot for individually helping kids when they were really struggling if they approached him.

Yet, there was something about him that was rather…oppressive. Maybe the way he walked with his long legs, crossing the rather large classroom in a mere second, or the way his eyes would squint at you as you read a passage, burning up your cheeks. He was always so commanding and in control, and you loved it.

Namjoon POV

There she stood, with her hunched shoulders and feet shuffling in spot. Her obedient tendencies, to say yes at every question and divert her eyes when he looked at her, brought out a different side of him. A side not all women enjoyed it, but, perhaps, young Miss (Y/N) would.

Of course she was wearing her school uniform, the navy and green plaid skirt riding a bit high from just having stood up. The white, longsleeve button down straining just a bit over her breats, and the small, black scarf tied loosely around her neck. Her knee high socks clung to her tanned legs, her slight heels gave her calves a small enhancement and caused her to walk with a bit of a sway . A striking image of a sweet, innocent, submissive schoolgirl.

“What did I do in my past life to get this kind of opportunity,” he thought with a slight smirk playing on his lips.

Third Person POV

“Come sit (Y/N),” Namjoon said. In his usually, slightly rough, voice.

(Y/N) walked across the room, her heels slightly echoing in the emptiness, only increasing what felt like a thundercloud of tension, possibly sexual?

You take a seat and place your hands on your knees, not crossing your legs.

“I’m sure you are aware of why I had you hang back to speak with me?,” Namjoon asked

“Sir, I know I haven’t done most of my work, I’m really sorry I just don’t hav–”

Namjoon cuts you off, “It’s alright I understand, you are a growing lady and your responsibilities have increased,” he says. With a rather calming tone in his voice. “However, I have too keep them as zeros until I get some work from you, why don’t you stay here for the next few lunches and try to get some work done during the day?”

“Stay in a room, with just me and Mr. Kim, for a whole 45 minutes? And he expects nothing to happen? I’ll die of tension if I have to stay here with him,” you think. But at the same time, you know you have to get this work done.

“Alright, I’ll try and finish as much work as I can!” you say in the most motivated way you can muster.

10 minutes later

“God if I have to put up with looking at her for another minute i’m going to explode.”

“How can he just sit there and still look so powerful?”

“Fuck this…”

You look up and see Namjoon standing on the other side of your desk, looming over you.

“Y-Yes, Mr.Kim,” you manage to stutter, trying not to bring ur eyes down to the level of his pelvic region, which happened to be at a perfect height for you.

“(Y/N), come to my desk please,” he says, his voice a bit deeper than before.

You almost stumble getting up, and walk with Namjoon over to his, rather large, desk. You stand at a corner while he crosses in front of you and takes a seat on his chair. He subtly runs his eyes up and down your figure, slightly noticing your feet shuffle, your trademark sign of nervousness.

“Come sit,” Namjoon says as he pats his thigh. You almost fall backwards in shock at the random request, and Namjoon simply smirks and grabs your wrist to bring you onto his lap. Your knees fold in between his thighs as you feel you ass resting on the fabric of his pants.

You try not to face him, for his face is a mere inch from yours. You can feel your cheeks heating up and you heartbeat getting louder by the second.

You tried squirming to get your skirt under your ass to stop your further wetting core from getting onto his pants, but Namjoon wraps his long arm around you and squeezes your waist.

“Um, M-Mr.Kim, what a-are you doing?” you manage to finally say.

He pulls his lips up into his signature smirk and moves his other hand to you hip wrapping you in his arms. “Now princess, we both know that something was bothering both of us,” he starts, his eyes staring all over you causing you to slightly squirm more, “and I think it’s better if we just address it before you can finish up you work.”

At that flipped you so you were facing him and straddling his legs, his chest touching yours. You squeaked in surprise at the quick movement, and felt his breath on you. He grabbed your chin and forced you to face him. His eyes looking over your whole face as he smirked and ran his thumb across your cheek, “look how soft my princess’s skin is.”

“M-Mr.Ki-” he silenced you with his lips on yours.

“Hush baby girl, and I’m no longer Mr.Kim okay?” He picked you up by your thighs and placed your back onto his desk. “I’m daddy from now on.”

“Y-yes daddy.” You had no idea where this was going, how you got here, but you just knew that you liked it, you liked it very much.

“Good girl princess, that sounds so good coming from your pretty little mouth.”

He slides his hands down your clothed chest and untied your scarf, then he began unbuttoning you blouse, so slowly and meticulously, savoring every new bit of skin. He took off your shirt and looked down at you. Already so hot with just your light pink bra and small skirt riding up to where he could see your matching panties. He licked his lips just imagining violating ur precious little body.

“Look at me princess, give me your wrists,” he commanded as he undid his tie. You simply looked up at him and obliged, biting you lips. He tied his tie on your wrists binding your two hands, the soft fabric tightening on your skin with every knot. Namjoon kissed your knuckles and let your hands fall above your head.

“Now, you need to make sure your hands stay above your head okay baby girl? You don’t want to make daddy upset on your first time, do you?”

You meekly shook you head, “No daddy.”

“Will you be a good princess for me?”

“Yes daddy”

“That’s what I like to hear.” He smirked and kissed you softly.

Namjoon moved down to your chest, pulling each breast out of their cups. He brought his head down and began suckling on one while kneading the other and pinching your tits. His tongue swirled around one bud and then he transferred sides, showing love to each. His thick lips perfectly encased your tit and his fingers playfully teased the other. All you could do was gasp at each touch and moaned lie never before.

“Is my princess already so enthralled? Daddy hasn’t even gotten started yet baby girl.” He joked, noticing your already helpless state.

“D-Daddy please, oh god, daddy you feel so good.”

“My baby girl is so good. Look at you, already coming undone for me.” He went down again, slightly biting you bud. Causing you to gasp and whimper slightly at the soft pain.

Namjoon moved down your body, leaving soft butterfly kisses across your belly, giving you goosebumps. Reaching the line of your skirt, he slowly pulled it off, admiring the progressive appearance of you soft pink panties with small white lace borders. He threw your skirt off to the side, again staring about your beautiful body.

He smiled at your panties and ran his index under the band, “these look so good on you princess, I’ll have to buy you more sets like these.” He bent down over your body, pressing you under his chest, his groin slightly brushing yours. “My baby girl should always look this precious,” Namjoon whispered in your ear before pulling back and kissing you again.

Hooking one finger under your panties again, he slipped them off, smirking at how soaked they already were. As he tossed them, he marveled in how absolutely sinful you looked. Your cheeks were burning red, your breathing shallow, and you body glistening in a light sheen of sweat. Your pussy practically dripping for Namjoon to just lick right up.

“Princess, you look so beautiful right now, daddy is thinking of all the ways he could fuck you up right now.” Namjoon says as he runs his thumb on your knee.

“Daddy please, daddy I- I need you, p-please,” you manage to get out in between choppy breaths.

“Tell me what you want from me baby girl,” Namjoon says, his voice going husky and his hands lightly skimming the skin of your inner thigh. It gave you goosebumps and only made you breathe harder.

“I want daddy to lick me, please daddy,” you plead through moans.

“That’s it baby girl,” he says as he lowers his head to your dripping pussy, “Look how pretty you are princess.”

Namjoon takes his tongue and runs in once through your folds, watching you shiver and moan. Then, while his thumb rubs your clit, he sucks you into his lips, licking up every drop on your core. He works his tongue in between your folds, and slips it in and out of your pussy.

“Oh daddy yeessss, keep doing that, please daddy,” you moan. Namjoon’s lips and tongue overflow every sense you have, his soft lips encasing you.

“Yeah princesses, you like it when daddy licks ur sexy little clit baby girl? Daddy can do this all day sweetheart, I’m here to make my princess feel so special.”

“Daddy, don’t stop daddy, I’m gonna cum.”

“I wanna taste my baby girls jucies, cum for me my sexy little princess.” Namjoon says as he continues to wrap your pussy in his soft lips.

You feel your whole body come undone, your legs buck under the pleasure, and you cum all over your daddy’s face.

Namjoon looks down at you again, after having licked up you cum. You were still breathing hard and your legs still shaking. Your eyes were closed and slowly opened to meet his gaze.

“Princess, do you know how fucking sinful you look right now,” Namjoon says with his sexy smirk back as he pulls you up off the desk, holding onto your shoulders to help you keep your balance. He takes your chin again and places a light kiss on your lips and sets another on your forehead.

“Now lets get you dressed, hmm?”

He helps you gather all your clothes and puts your shoes back on. “You know baby girl, you have to come back next lunch to finish up your other work,” he says with a devious smile.

“Don’t worry daddy, I’ll make sure to get all my work done next time.” You reply, a small smile playing on your lips at the new name you have for your teacher.

“That’s what daddy likes to hear, princess,” Namjoon playfully growls in your ear, grabbing your ass through your skirt.

“See you tomorrow.”

why i think gorgeous is incredible in lyrics and style :

-the whole song is making fun of itself. it’s intended to be overdramatic and brutally honest, and full of things that in the light of morning were probably better left unsaid. it’s the epitome of intoxicated conversations.

-the repeated use of ‘compliment’ and 'consequence’ makes it feel like intoxicated taylor is just repeating herself and trying to explain herself but stumbling, as well as the perfectly balanced internal rhyme.

-the whole song has an amazing tone of blame. it’s like 'it’s all your fault’. i think this is so well done because you can imagine drunk taylor poking this person’s chest and going 'WHY?’ and then falling asleep. it’s almost comical.

-that on point magnetic field metaphor that i’m now using every time i’m attracted to someone

-the neatly done 'me and you against the world’ with 'i’ve got a boyfriend, he’s older than US’. it immediately puts these two people on the same side.

-'you’re so cool it makes me hate you so much’. now taylor’s just straight up laughing at herself and how ridiculous the situation is.

-'whisky on ice, sunset and vine’ the colour palette created here is so striking that it goes on to form a symbol for the whole song

-'you’ve ruined my life’ again with the overdramatic tone. this is taylor acting intoxicated and emotional and it’s so genius to live in the skin of that person in this song because they’re someone we’ve all been.

-taylor continually references his face. it’s like she can’t help but be drawn back in or she can’t help herself. his face is such a focal point in the song and it’s so smart.

-the rhythm and pace of the song is a little off kilter, like someone swaying when they’re drunk. it gives the effect that the listener is drunk too, which is again a really good effect.

-the dramatic tone changes throughout when really the whole song is fun and light. it’s layering up emotions.

-the emotional accuracy of 'but if you’re single that’s honestly worse’ perfectly captures the feeling of being confused when you have a crush and it’s so relatable.

-in the bridge the multiple rhymes for each word stacks up a mental image.

-'ocean blue eyes’ damn! another striking colour and image, and it’s like taylor can’t help but make it sound romantic

-sink and drown and die. DO I NEED TO COMMENT?

-i love her use of the whole 'cat lady’ thing - like she’s trying to turn it into a situation that’s sad for her. she’s going 'alone’ and just waiting for him to give in and come with her. she’s acting and being coy.

-you make me so happy it turns back to sad ; again with the swinging emotions like she’s drunk.

When I’ve pictured a Sana season, I’ve always had a bit of trouble imagining what her internal conflict is going to be because she always has been presented as so secure in herself. She’s constantly in external conflict with the world based on their perceptions of her and prejudice against her faith but we don’t know that much about what it is that truly bothers her, what stays with her at the end of the day. One of the things I like a lot about the trailer is that it calls back one of the lines Sana herself was most emotional about: “If there’s one thing I don’t like, it’s when someone fucks over their friends.” Sana in the trailer comes off as making a deliberate action of tripping Noora. We don’t see why but with Sana, it’s easy to imagine that she did have plan and justification that we aren’t privy too. But that action spirals out of control in unpredictable ways and results in Even being hurt, that striking image of his blood dropping is what we open on. We come to realize that it wasn’t what we would assume, he didn’t get hit in a fight and the whole situation was comic from the start (“but I’m just a soul whose intentions are good, oh lord please don’t let me be misunderstood”). But it opens up all these questions: of intent, of presumptions, of causality, of unforeseen consequences to your actions.

I don’t think the trailer is meant to literally represent what is going to happen in the season but if part of it DOES wind up being Sana causing a hurt, Sana being the one who “fucks over a friend” even if that wasn’t her intention at all… I could see that being something that deeply bothers her, something that would get under her skin. There’s a feeling of coming back into the heart of Sana with that too, as her whole introduction in s1 revolved around being a truer and deeper friend than expected after being misjudged by Vilde. Who she is as a friend is very central to Sana as we know her.

The Arkham Knight is like a dark reflection of Batman. He seems to know everything about him: tactics, gadgets and weaknesses. He has used this knowledge to create an identity that mocks the Dark Knight and creates a striking image on the battlefield that inspires his army and terrifies the enemies.

Skam season 4, episode 8: “Don’t look back in anger” - oh but I will!!

Guys, I failed with the recaps as much as Julie failed to structure a coherent season 4 storyline. So Julie, girl, I get ya.  But I’ll still rant over what I’ve just seen.

I’ve been relatively positive about the post-hiatus episodes, because as painful as they were for Sana (and me), at least they were about Sana.  I was kind of sure that everything was going to be resolved in a way, because let’s be honest, in the end everything will be fine.  Expect, this time, I won’t be fine (yes, it’s all about me.  Call me Noora.)

Anger Issue part 1

Now, this last episode that just ended.  Episode 8.  Let me get the Even and co. stuff out of the way first, because I know that it causes the most anger right now.

In the very first clip  of this week’s episode (!!) we got an entire conversation between the Bakkoush siblings about why the friendship between the Balloon Squad and Even ended back then.  We got Elias’ view on what happened (remember how Yousef told us his version? ).  We saw a conversation between Sana and Even all those years ago where it was pretty obvious that there were a few unresolved matters between him and his former buddies.  So surely it wasn’t too crazy to expect some kind of scene that would resolve that particular storyline, right?  Wrong.  In this week’s final clip we suddenly see them all peacefully re-united, playing, dancing, singing together as if nothing has ever happened.  Now, I don’t need to be spoon-fed with every little detail, I understand that people solve things, but this was a story touched upon quite a few times this season.  So how did the boys get there?  The cute, happy scenes felt completely un-deserved. Also, dropping a teenager’s suicide attempt as background information on said character and never following up on that is not just low, it’s simply irresponsible.  Get it fucking together, Julie.

And don’t get me started on Isak, who apparently punched Mikael in a drunk, jealous rage back at the karaoke thingy.  Um.  Ok.  I get being jealous, he did seem a bit that way when he tried snooping around finding out more about Mikael.  Still, doesn’t make sense.  But yeah, give us that striking image of a favorite character violently bleeding and being in pain.  Only to have a bullshit explanation as to why that happened.

Another issue within this storyline that made no sense:  Sana seriously thinking that her sweet, loving, kind brother is a homophobe who goes around and punches her friends.  Um, what?  And then she doesn’t talk to him for weeks, only to finally get what happened when Isak tells her that it was basically his fault?  That’s crazy out of character.  Sana knows her brother. And for her to not ask him about it earlier is insane.

Anger Issue part 2

Ok.  Moving on to the girls.  Sana destroyed Sara by releasing private chat screenshots she took of a conversation between her and Isak.  I am a bad person, because as much as I knew that it was wrong, I cheered for Sana.  Yep.  Sue me.  When Sana finally came clean to the girls (accidentally) when it looked like Isak might bet expelled (because he took the fall for Sana), they dropped Sana.  In one of the most painful scenes I’ve ever watched on this show, Chris told Sana that the other girls don’t like her as much anymore because they felt she had changed throughout this whole bus drama.  This was terrible.  And was surely to be resolved in some kind of scene between Sana and at least one of the girls, maybe Eva who seemed the most angry.  Well….the next scene, when Sana was all alone with the awful Pepsi Max girls and which included a powerful voiceover from Sana, we suddenly see the girl squad coming to the rescue in their very own bus, happily screaming for Sana who is all happy too and gets on the bus with them.  Now, did the girls see the light and finally got that their friend must have had reasons to do what she had done?  Probably.  I can live with not getting that scene. It’s not from their POV.  But to not have a scene between them talking about it in some way later on is not ok and doesn’t make any sense.  Another storyline resolved without feeling deserved.

Anger Issue part 3

And now…the final moments of the episode 8′s last clip. Sana and Noora talk, it turns out (for Sana, we knew this all along I guess) that Yousef does indeed like her a LOT.  We learn all this through several minutes of Sana reading the texts between Noora and Yousef discussing his feelings for Sana.  Um, ok?  If this is how you want to do it, fine.  They exchange loving looks and Yousef seems to understand that things are looking up for them. We’ll get a sweet scene between Sana and Yousef later, right?  Well….I guess not.  Julie went all Red Wedding on my feelings by having a big ass dramatic scene for the arrival of…Wilhelm and boy-Chris.  It suddenly became Noora’s season again.  That was the big moment of this clip.  For real, guys. The episode didn’t end with a Sana moment, it was all about Noora and Wilhelm and I guess that’s what the final two episodes are going to be about.  Everything else has been resolved in this episode.  Don’t expect any deep talks between Sana and Even, or Sana and Yousef or Sana and the girls about what happened to their friendship.  From here on it will be the resolution to season 2.  Good luck, Julie.  It was fine while it lasted I guess.
