“Do you want to know what my favorite smell is?“
“Yeah, sure.”
“Petrichor. You know, the way streets smell after it rains. I love it but it also makes me very sad.
“Why is that?”
“it’s just like people. First, they make you really happy and then they disappear.”
“But then it rains again and the smell comes back.”
“Yeah, but it’s not always a good thing, isn’t it?”

Summer Luvin'

He scraped at the walls in the hall
of his memories with nail and knife
desperate for some recollection of
a sweet summer time.
The bliss of a girl’s kiss
covered in cherry chapstick.
The sweet deliciousness of
a cold cone from the Ice Cream truck.
Happily running in the side yard
chasing lightening bugs at dusk.
All he can remember is standing
in the street gutter after a heavy rain
while the warm water crested his dusty toes.
