Despite what I said previously, I haven’t abandoned computer completely. This has been sloooooowly been happening inch by inch. I do however spend 90% of my time dreaming up weird and disturbing … wait for it … workflows for sculpting. Yes. That’s right. I am trying to do something “new” within that age old medium, and experimentation has always been closest to my heart.

So that’s partially why I spend so much time on working on physical sculptures. It’s something “new” for me, and with any luck I’ll stumble on something unique - and then I get bored and move back to computer.

That’s how it usually goes.

“Murder”, By Jyri Straechav, 2015. As always, you can support my art by buying it at society6.

So, yeah. I got stuck with wings.

I mean, I did have a bunch of other pieces in the works - but I had kind of fun doing the wings in the last one. So this piece sort of jumped the gun. I did it one go, too. The wings were also a bit of an experiment.

You can also get a 1920x1200 wallpaper sized image at my deviantart. If you’re into such things.

Progress Shot 13/02/15, By Jyri Straechav

This is my latest creation. I’m afraid I might not be writing as well as I could because I am so damn drunk (on Absinthe), but this is pretty much what I’ve been thinking about lately.

Basically it’s a combination of wings and tentacles. It’s also got the standby of my standard pieces in that it could be named “thoughts” and still work. I’ll leave the name for later, but I am pretty satisfied with it.

Anyway, I’ve actually meanwhile finished two pieces “Diana” and “Relinquish”, so the only unfinished piece I’ve got on the queue is this one. I’m actually fairly satisfied with the two unfinished pieces - but I leave the final verdict until I’ve pushed them out and I’m sober to actually make a final judgment on the two of them.

I “kind of” finished them while enjoying a glass (or three, or four, or five, nevermind) of Absinthe. So I am not sure if I am being very objective about the quality. So… yeah, until tomorrow?

“Hands”, By Jyri Straechav, 2014.

Yes, I know very unimaginative title but sue me. It’s late here. Also, I am thinking of doing a series of images about hands - so I am saving the better titles for those. If I get around to it.

These are the most detailed hands I’ve ever done. A lot of painting of small details and subtle color variations that are mostly invisible but do play a significant role in the overall effect.

Look at those details! Look at them, goddamnit. I spent hours on them… so pretty please?

That said, yeah, more art coming. I can’t promise more this year, because it’s getting close to holiday season and I don’t know about my timeline. But I’ll do my best.

Finally, yes, Dir En Grey’s new Arche album is awesome. Yeah. also, listen to The Atlas Moth, Old Man Gloom and Isis and you’ll hear 90% of my last month’s music.

“Spirit”, By Jyri Straechav, 2014.

Something a little less horror and a bit more “dark fantasy” or something. It was just an idea that I had, and here it is. I rather like how the surface turned out. I might (in other words: I will) use this technique again to work on my future pieces. Have to wonder what to do next, though… hmm…

I think it's fucking idiotic how quite possibly the best artist on this site gets so few notes on his work. Follow Straechav. Jyri is absofuckinglutely amazing. On top of his skill his latest pieces are done after his second stroke. Follow. Buy. Reblog. Whatever. This man deserves more recognition.
