Storypark e-portfolios

From Storypark’s blog:

School portfolios can be a joy but they can also be a chore, especially at the end of the year when teachers are racing the clock cutting and pasting into their students portfolios. This is the time of year when many teachers think “there has to be an easier way!”

Using e-portfolios to record and share children’s learning can help make the process easier. Using Storypark eportfolios is not only time saving but also helps teachers improve learning outcomes, discover emerging trends and gives a deeper picture of the whole child. Using eportfolios is a great way to start 2013.

It’s easy to get set up using Storypark eportfolios with a free account. Simply sign up and you will be able to start writing stories in minutes.

Next add a child.

Start storytelling! Yup, it’s that easy! Just click “New Story" and add images, videos and words to the child’s page. You can save as a draft or publish the story and it will be instantly (and privately) shared with the children’s invited family members.

You are now using e-portfolios! You can add tags and keywords to your story or invite family to contribute or leave comments. Each time you publish a story, the child’s family will be notified instantly. Reading their comments can often be the best part!

Storypark makes it easy to use e-portfolios and the new year is a great time to start. For more information visit our How it works page or read more about how e-portfolios can help teachers gain a better understanding of children’s learning.

Grandparents more involved in ECE despite being on the other side of the world

This blog post is written by Ann and Ted, Grandparents living Solihull, UK.

Our two granddaughters live overseas in New Zealand. We are in the UK so miles away but Storypark has brought us closer. We visited the kindy a couple of years ago when we went over to New Zealand and the girls showed us around and we met the staff. Since the kindy has signed up with Storypark it has been wonderful to see how the girls are doing and what they are up to on an almost weekly basis.

We have had three grandchildren in the UK go through kindy and I think we know more about what the girls are up to in New Zealand than we ever did with the grandkids who were going to a centre five minutes down the road!

The girls go to a Montessori centre which is all new to us too so we are learning heaps!

The impact of Storypark for leading ECE services

I’ve just gotten off the phone with Peter from Storypark and promised I’d write down some of the praise I was giving him in person on the phone. Storypark is amazing. It’s changed the way we’re doing things at LittleWonders and is now a key part of our practice.

I thought I’d share some of the key differences Storypark has made so other Teachers can better understand and gain the same benefits as we have!

  • Storypark is a simple, easy to use system for teachers even if they’re not confident in ICT. Our whole team have found it easy to learn and love Storypark!
  • We are receiving more feedback in relation to children’s learning from their parents/whanau. Parents are able to put photos into the comments and show teachers the learning links from home.
  • Parents are contributing their own stories to their child’s learning journey, the instant feedback from them is fantastic and really supports our teaching!
  • Storypark provides great technical support when it’s needed and are quick to respond and fix any issues
  • It’s a great way for management to track teacher’s individual contributions and monitor the use of different aspects of learning.  This helps us to see the trends that are happening across the centre and use this to plan and respond to individual children’s interests
  • Storypark has simple and professional options for layouts of learning stories.  Teachers are finding they have time to write more stories than previously as they are not spending most of their time ‘making it pretty’ and there is more of a focus on the content.  Editing the photos within the story is also a great time effective tool.
  • Children’s learning journeys are now more easily accessible for teachers to view and contribute to from previous rooms.
  • Teachers are able to view each others writing styles for their own professional development.
  • Everything is in one place and all teachers are able to view/access this which mean a greater consistency across the centre.
  • The editing tool is great, and there’s less room for errors.

I thoroughly recommend Storypark!
