At the Edge of the Shore is a painting series, based on a one-year exploration of the spatial experience of the South Shore landscape. Each of the paintings in the series, large and small scale canvases, depict Lunenburg’s history, culture, and natural beauty. They render these elements into works which contain strong social commentary through recognizing colour and landscape as part of that social fabric. The works in At the Edge of the Shore use a pastiche of styles, combining representation and abstraction; flat planes of colour, geometric shapes, expressive mark making, distorted perspectives and monumental scale on canvas. The artwork embraces the local landscape and draws association with the community, specifically by focusing on history, social interaction and architectural space.
