It is the moment you have all been waiting for!!! Dragon Scale Gloves.

DRAGON SCALE GLOVES!!!!!!!!

A pattern written by me for the use of you lovely crafty people that want to make your own. Also, if you are not yarn savvy, I will gladly make a pair for you for a small price. Send me a message, and we will work it out.

Now, ON TO THE PATTERN!!! I am really excited about this, can you tell?

I have a nasty habit of not keeping up on the things that I say I am going to do because… well.. life. So a very big thank you to the people who sent me messages and kept reminding me that I needed to share this with the rest of you.

ON WARD!!!!!

Dragon Scale Fingerless Gloves.

I used Red Heart Super saver yarn Worsted Weight, and a 5.5 MM crochet hook. Gauge really isn’t important for this, I just kind of picked up a hook and went with it.

The types of stitches I used include Foundation Single Crochet (FSC), Double Crochet (DC), Crocodile Stitch (CS), Single Crochet (SC), Half Double Crochet (HDC), and Slip Stitch (SS).

Foundation Row: Crochet 30 FSC.

If you are unsure of how to do this, it is really simple! Start by chaining 2, then place your hook through two loops in the second chain from hook. Yarn over and pull a loop up. Then, YO Chain 1, YO and pull through two loops. Continue in this pattern until you get 29 FSC, then do a modified slip stitch as your last FSC. Do this by inserting your hook into the two loops of your previous chain, and then inserting the hook into the chain loop at the beginning of your row of FSC. You should have 3 loops on your hook, YO and pull through all loops. Then insert your hook into the top two loops of your first single crochet, YO and pull though all loops. You did it!

If you have never done a Foundation Single Crochet, I suggest finding a really good video and practicing. I would link one, but I never used a video to learn this stitch. I do find it to be a very useful one, and it gives a very nice finished look.

Alternatively, if you don’t feel like learning a new stitch, then just chain 30 SS into a ring and chain 1, SC around and SS in ch1.

Now that the foundation for the Dragon gloves is finished, lets move on to the most uncomplicated, complicated-looking stitch in this pattern. The Crocodile stitch!

Row 1: Chain 4, DC in first stitch. Skip 2 Sts, *DC, Ch1, DC* repeat from * to * around. SS into 3rd starting chain.  (You can see the starting “v” stitch in the picture above.

Row 2: (This is where the scales begin to take form! Exciting, right?) Chain 1, Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) around starting chain in previous row. Follow with 4 more FPDC around same stitch, ch 1, 5 FPDC around next stitch. Skip next “V” and begin CS again. *5 FPDC, Ch1, 5 FPDC* to end of round. SS in Ch1. (Pictures below show progress of first scale.)

Repeat Row 1.

Row 3: Ch 1, Skip fist “V” and begin the pattern for CS again. At end of round, SS into 3rd chain.

Continue Rows 1 thru 3 until you have four rows of scales. (or more if you like)

On your final row of scales, do not SS into Ch1. Instead chain 8 and then SS as usual. This is where you make the opening for your thumb.

Cuff

Row 1: Chain 2, HDC around. Make sure to do 9 HDC around Ch8 for Thumb hole. SS to join.

Row 2: Ch3, 2 DC in first stitch. Skip 2 Sts. *3 DC in next st, skip 2 sts.* Repeat from * to * until end of round. SS to join.

Row 3: Ch1, *Sc in next 4 sts. Sc Dec.* Repeat from * to *, SS to join.

Row 4: Ch1, *Sc in next 3 sts, SC Dec.* Repeat from * to *, SS to join.

Row 5: Ch 1, *Sc in next 2 sts, Sc Dec.* Repeat from * to *, SS to join.

Row 6 and 7: Ch2, HDC around. SS to join.

Finishing:

*SS in next two stitches, Ch3* Repeat from * to * around, DO NOT SKIP STITCHES. SS to join. Bind off and weave in ends.

Just follow the pattern again, and then you will have a pair of totally fabulous Dragon Scale Gloves.

I like to think that the knit and crochet community is one made of people who understand the amount of time and effort that goes into making patterns, and sharing them with others. That being said, I have no problem if you use this pattern for your personal use, and I do not mind if you sell what you make from this pattern. Just, please, be sure to link back to me and give credit where credit is due.

Also, all images in this post are mine. While I know they are not of fabulous quality, Do not copy and claim them as your own. If you would like to reference them, please feel free to link back to my blog.

Thank you, and Happy Crafting!
