stilted fox

The maned wolf is the largest canine species in South America and closely resembles a red fox on stilts because of its long legs. It is neither a wolf, fox, coyote, or dog  but rather a member of its own Chrysocyon genus, making it a truly unique animal. They possess a mane that runs from the back of the head to the shoulders which can be erected to intimidate other animals when displaying aggression or when they feel threatened.

Unlike other wolves that live in packs, maned wolves do not form or hunt in packs but prefer to live alone.  Maned wolf is considered as the last surviving species of the Pleistocene Extinction, which wiped out all other large canids from the continent.

Axel has a pretty foxy face, yeah.  Not gonna argue with anyone there, nor is anyone gonna convince me otherwise.  But foxes are just so smol.  So what to do?  How about a Red Fox on stilts?  Meet the Maned Wolf, neither fox nor wolf, but a class all its own.  Look at this silly bastard.  That’s obviously Axel.

The 80% leg comment made me think of Manned Wolves, they really are very elegant looking. Sometimes also called "foxes on stilts"

Ways I Am Like A Maned Wolf

  • 80% Leg
  • Probably trips over their legs at least twice a day
  • Has majestic hair
  • Has an awkward loping gait
  • Likes apples and avocados
  • Can fluff up their manes to appear bigger as a form of intimidation
  • Can’t decide whether they want to be blonde or ginger
  • Shy and flees when alarmed
  • Doesn’t like hanging out with other maned wolves
  • Hunts alone
  • Kills prey by biting their necks
  • Has a really scary bark-roar but it’s rarely heard by humans
  • Is often considered mean and intimidating because of their height but are actually kind of shy and cuddly
Wolf in a Sarape (werewolf!McCree au)

The moon was hiding behind the clouds in the Gibraltar sky. It gave Jesse a chance to walk around closer to base as he waited for the moon to set. He shook out his black and red mane of fur along his back, long legs and arms loping him through the shadows as he patrolled.

The cowboy took a pause to stretch out, yawning widely as he rested. He wasn’t a normal looking werewolf, if there was such a thing. His wolf blood was actually that of a Maned Wolf. Technically not a wolf but a golden dog, but Jesse didn’t care. He may look like a red fox on stilts but he enjoyed his life.

Even if he tried to hide it from everyone. His paranoia kept him from opening up to anyone about it; afraid he would be turned into someone’s new pet or experiment.

Yet he still just shook off that and continued his monthly rounds pausing to sniff at the air as the wind changed.
