I don't know if anyone else feels like this but I just want to say how much I adore the fact that Stiles still calls his father "Daddy", it really speaks to his state of mind and how close he feels to his father from a child's perspective, because so many people grow out of that by the time they're teenagers, especially boys, it gives me all kinds of Claudia-related headcanons, like he called him that alot right after she died because of a comfort thing and just .. never grew out of it, and 1/?
never saw a reason to, he never tries to distance himself from his father or draw a line in the sand between parent and child with being “too old” for something, and I don’t know I just think it’s really sweet that he’s still attached to those childhood things that most people let go of as they get older and more importantly that Stiles *doesn’t care* that most people have grown out of them, he has zero fucks to give about anyone thinking he’s too close to his father and that’s a very very rare thing because most teenagers go through the “ew parents” phase and I don’t know it’s just brings such an interesting dynamic to Stiles’ mindset, in my opinion, that he still clings to little things like that and doesn’t care that it isn’t the socially accepted “normal” thing.
This just makes me want to cry, tbh. The relationship between Stiles and his dad punches me in the gut every time. I mean, Stiles calling the Sheriff daddy can be seen as light-hearted and funny and as a totally Stiles thing to do. I wouldn’t be surprised if the reason Stiles called the Sheriff daddy is because it always makes the Sheriff groan - a whole “daddy, daddio” thing - and it stuck because, well, this is Stiles and he’s a little shit. But at the same time, yeah. Stiles rebels, we all know he lives to try push buttons that shouldn’t be pushed - even when he knows it will try his dad’s patience - but the thought of his dad ever being disappointed in him kills Stiles and I think if there is one person he wants the approval of, it’s his dad.
All the parent - kid relationships in Teen Wolf are surprisingly mature, though. At least, in terms of the “ew parents” phase. You have struggle and misunderstanding between them but I don’t recall anyone being embarrassed by their parents?? But then again, when we first meet all the characters, they are all around 15/16 which is typically more of a rebellious phase than an embarrassed phase (at least, from my own point of view)?? At the same time though, I definitely think Stiles is that kid who has no shame in hugging his dad goodbye in front of his friends - probably actually runs back to hug him if he forgot - or calling him during a party, even if it will lose him “social cred”. Stiles is proud of his dad, happily admits he takes after him and yeah, I do think he clings to him in a lot of ways and it breaks my heart because all Stiles really wants is for the Sheriff to tell him he trusts him, that he’s proud of him and couldn’t have asked for a better son. Alas, what Stiles gets instead is told he’s not trustworthy and if he could have been more like Scott, that would have been great. Joke or not, it still stings. A lot. You see it on Stiles’ face every time the Sheriff makes some kind of reference to his character - whether it’s real or Stiles is imagining it.
That being said, the Stilinski men love each other a fuck ton and it’s my hope one day Stiles will get that super big hair ruffle he’s always wanted and be told he’s the best kid the whole damn world has ever seen. (It is also my hope this will take place while Stiles is mid-skype call with Derek who is just all damn right he deserves that hair ruffle….fUCK Stiles’ hair is nice….it looks extra shiny today too…is it weird I have a thing for his hair? I wish I could run my fingers through it right now. OH GOD, I’m internally rambling….and at the most inappropriate moment. Is the Sheriff looking at me? Shit, smile Hale. What is it they say about people who live together? Does that apply to people in long distance relationships? All the while Erica is cackling in the background because, “you do know you’re saying all of that out loud, right? Oh Der-Bear, soon, you’ll even start wearing those awful, ironic t-shirts of his too.” Glaring, Derek is not going to admit he does, in actual fact, already have three of Stiles’ “ironic” t-shirts under his pillow upstairs - he’s a werewolf dammit and his nose has needs - but fuck if he isn’t thinking about them now…and smiling like a giant idiot.)
