FUN FACT: Apparently, while most people interpret Buddha’s first meal upon enlightenment as bland rice gruel, it’s actually called Madhu Payasa, and it’s an indulgent rice pudding.
Whole milk (about a quart)
Rice (about a cup)
Currants (tiny raisins)
LET’S SO THIS
Step 1: Bring the milk to a boil. Be sure to let it heat up slowly, or the milk will bubble and overflow.
Step 2: Add the rice, and let it cook for about 15 minutes.
Step 3: Add the honey, almonds, and currants about five minutes into cooking rice.
Step 4: Serve.
Happy Vesak, peeps.
