steve what kind of a question was that

2

“Our conscious minds are very spread out. We worry about the past. We worry about the future. We label. And all of that stuff just makes us very separate. What I’m trying to do is just quiet it down. Put that brain down from time to time and hope those periods of quiet and stillness get longer. When you do that, what rises from the mist is a kind of surrendering. You’re more connected as opposed to being separate. A lot of the questions about destiny or fate or purpose or any of that stuff—it’s not like you get answers. You just realize you didn’t need the questions.”

A/N: Seriously guys, thank you so much for the nice feedback. I hope I tagged everyone, sorry if I didn’t :/ (As usual some quotes from the movie)

“I know who you work for,” Brock Rumlow, notorious human trash bag, hissed as he pinned you with the weight of his body against a brick wall.

He put his big, calloused hand around your throat and tightened his grip until you were gasping for air. You tried to pull yourself free, but your hands were trapped behind your back. He was breathing so close to your face that you could feel his clammy breath on your skin.

In hindsight, you should have known that Rumlow wasn’t going to be easy an easy target. He was a murderer and a thief, he probably didn’t even have a heart. Your targets were usually old people or horny men, this was a first and you couldn’t understand why Bucky needed his heart. It was most likely all black and corrupted.

If debuting at #2 on the UK charts, hitting #1 on Itunes in 42 countries, hitting #2 on Itunes WORLDWIDE, debuting at #1 on Billboard’s dance/EDM charts, and hitting #1 in 50 countries on Itunes Dance IS NOT enough to get you A-listed in the top UK radio stations, then what will?

This is the question most of us are asking about “Just Hold On.” Because these are real numbers. These are facts.

The bigger issue is that “Just Hold On” was a proven success when it was released. But it still had no radio support until weeks later in January. It still didn’t get the promotional support it deserved despite being a PROVEN entity.

Think about it - how many artists on Sony’s and JGG’s roster can even bring in that kind of success when a song drops? and take note, Just Hold On and Louis/Steve got zero promotion and zero hype BEFORE JHO dropped and YET they still managed to get those numbers in! No one even KNEW It was coming!

Do you know that when JHO dropped,  Louis Tomlinson’s Spotify profile grew SO QUICKLY? It was ranked 40th in the world and had over 15 million monthly listeners? Imagine that! All because of one song! This is Louis Tomlinson solo! He managed to outrank so many established solo artists.

Yet he still didn’t get the promotional support his song and him, as an artist, deserved.

And this was AFTER he brought the numbers in. His team had weeks before the January promo to really get a good plan together and YET….

Look, If you don’t get your own label and management’s support after ALL THAT success, then something is really wrong, isn’t it? Really makes you wonder what Louis has to prove at this point, and what he’s really up against.

Why did his team continue shitting on him and generating bad press even after he was a proven success???

Wacky chat room with the reader being an original Avenger and is dating Tony, and best friends with Nat and Clint, and them three are having a competition over who knows the reader the best (Tony against Nat & Clint) and along the way the rest of the team some how join in (Tony brings in his reinforcements) and it’s all hilarious because it’s the Avengers what else would you expect? I love you so, so much, and keep being awesome! ;D   (a/n: thank you, i love you more ;D <3)

Natasha has created a chatroom.

Natasha has invited Clint, Y/N, Tony.

Tony: Hello people who I, grudgingly, have to share my significant others love with.

You: What’s up, people that I love more than Tony?

Tony: … That’s warranted. Still hurts though.

Natasha: Clint has something to say, although it’s really stupid and I know Tony’s not guilty.

Tony: Yes, Barton? What do you think I did?

Clint: Y/N tell your boyfriend to stop eating MY food.

Tony: seriously.

Tony: I’m right here.

Clint: Y/N, tell him.

Natasha: oh my god, are you really going to ignore Tony?

Clint: Yes, he ate all of my food!

Tony: I did not!

Clint: Donuts. Pizza. Bagels. Pasta. All gone!

Tony: You do realize we all live together and whatever you leave in the fridge now belongs to everyone else?

Clint: I LABELLED IT ALL WITH MY NAME. I even drew cute little flowers on the labels…

What I’m talking about when I’m talking about Soft Bucky

If Steve’s Mister Leadership, then Bucky’s Mister Nurturing.  He grew up the eldest kid in a busy family and there’s no way he doesn’t know a thing or two about infant care.  Soft Bucky who had always harboured some little aspiration of going to college, but gladly took a job out of school instead because his family was stretched thin enough as it was.  Soft Bucky who dreamed of one day spending the summer in a cabin in the mountains with Steve, where Steve could practice his sketches and Bucky could finally write that novel he knew he had in him; the clean air would do them both good, he reasoned, and you could see so many more stars without the city lights to get in the way.  Soft Bucky who wanted to show all the wonders of the universe to Steve.  Soft Bucky who always had Steve’s back in a fight, and was there to ice down his bruises and bandage his scrapes.  Soft Bucky who was never afraid to give Steve a damn good talking to when he was too stubborn to slow down and put his own needs first.  Soft Bucky who’s always longed for a little family of his own, but never really let himself dream of it because fellas like him didn’t get to dream of nice things like that when he was coming of age and realising that the only person he ever wanted to make a little life with was his best friend Steve.

Soft Bucky who was proud to be posted with the 107th when he was drafted, and was the damn best at what he did because he wasn’t about to let his men down, not because he revels in battle, but because he is loyal and kind.  Soft Bucky who’s first question when Steve burst in to save him (because of course, if anyone was going to be there exactly when he needed someone, it was going to be Steve), suddenly so strong and tall, was not how it happened or what amazing things he could now do, but whether it hurt.  Soft Bucky, who quietly deferred when he saw that he was not the only one who looked at Steve and saw that he was made of the most beautiful stardust in all the universe, whose love would become a ghost story, a tale told in a whisper, an almost, and a can’t-be, because that was all a fella like him could hope for in those days, but Steve was happy, and he would be grateful for that.

Soft Bucky who fought and fought and raged before he would let himself become submerged, until there was nothing and no-one left to live for, who watched some blank and ersatz version of a person using his body, over and over, for things he could never unsee, clawing at the walls of his mind, until Steve and his stupid stubborn fists punched through with a few little words and set him free, and in his shame and confusion, for fear of the hurt he had done, he ran.

Soft Bucky who spent two years keeping his head down, drifting from country to country while he pieced together his history, following a labyrinthine treasure map until he found himself.  Soft Bucky who could have spent those two years, and all the intelligence he had in him, hunting down all the people who had hurt him and picking them off just as easily as he could shoot a row of cans off of fence posts with a sniper rifle, but who chose not to take revenge.  Soft Bucky, whose revenge is just to live, and be kind.

I’m talking about Soft Bucky who at first was afraid to tell Steve how much he remembered to protect him, who was so torn between regret that he had caused Steve so much trouble, and gratitude that, at long last, he is back where he belongs.

Soft Bucky who’s going to be in therapy for years, who still wakes up in a cold sweat, haunted; soft Bucky who bristles at the idea of taking orders, of being controlled, who mentally maps out all the potential exits every time he enters a room for the first time, but slowly lets himself feel safe.  Soft Bucky who has friends he loves who love him too.  Soft Bucky who finds purpose in using his hands to create rather than to destroy: kneading flour and water together into soft dough to bake bread, feeling the comforting scrape of pen against paper as he scribbles down old memories and new stories in his many notebooks - and later, using wood reclaimed from old barns to build beautiful nursery furniture as they await the arrival of the new member of their family.

Soft Bucky who still upbraids Steve in no uncertain terms if he catches him going out without a scarf in winter, who loves his family and friends more than words can say, who likes going to the farmer’s market on Saturdays and brunch on Sundays.

Soft Bucky who lives with gratitude and love, who finally gets to live the things he never let himself dream of, because somehow, he and Steve woke into a world where fellas like him can, so they do.

That’s what I’m talking about.

Your eyes were dry and bloodshot, and you couldn’t stop the constant shivering that had started sometime during the flight back. You spent the entirety of the flight trying not to cry. You hugged your knees to your chest as best as you could in the cramped plane and stared out the window. Thankfully, you had plenty of music on your phone, so you simply plugged in your headphones and tuned out the rest of the world.

Once you landed and collected your baggage, you realized just how late it was. The sun had set during the flight, and it was now well past midnight. You could have easily called a taxi, but you weren’t sure that you could handle being stuck in the back of a taxi for the ride back home. You didn’t want to have to make awkward small talk. All you wanted was to curl up in bed and sleep.

Every day, Words With Friends shows me a “match of the day” person they say they hand-picked *just for me*, and want me to play against.

The suggestions are priceless.

First of all, roughly 50% are grandmas.

Another 20% are middleaged guys with sunglasses who reeeaaally like to take selfies in their cars.

#1 looks to be in a driver’s seat, whereas #2 is in a passenger sea– … wait, are they in the same car?

Are they double-car-sunglasses-selfie buddies?!

I’m not entirely sure what’s happening in this photo… which one’s Jolene? Is she the too-bright one in the foreground with no face?

…also, where on earth are they? Tile floor, some kind of seating, floor-mounted computer kiosk… I’m so confused.

At least this shot makes sense.

These nice people just wanted to take a selfie with the damp pavement outside their house. I mean, hey, we’ve all been there.

At first, I thought the app was just suggesting some guy named Steve, but then I looked at the photo, and – plot twist – it appears Steve might actually be his last name.

This also raises the question of what mother decided to name their kid Tyler Steve.

…and the same goes for the mother that named her son Zyngawf 34260864.

Poor, poor Pippifuzz. They’re just a ghostly outline, doomed forever to haunt the halls of Words With Friends suggestions.

Brandon doesn’t have it much better, seeing as he’s a cloud of mist next to a bridge. At least he has a semi-corporeal body, unlike poor Pippifuzz.

Fred… Fred’s seen some hard times.

…also, yes, the Bumble wants to play Words With Friends with me. I’m flattered.

As does this dog.

As does–…

…wait… Gandalf?

The avengers are back post CW and for good publicity they all do a Reddit style AMA. While most of the avengers try to keep their answers generic and PC, Tony actually answers sincerely and honestly. (Also how great would it be if tony got a question about his bots and he let's them answer and they basically hi Jack the whole thing)

I had to google reddit style ama, because I don’t Reddit but I love this. I think they’d probably do it in person, or through a livestream.

The chat is flooded with questions, most of them not ones a lawyer would recommend they answer, such as.

“Captain America, how many people have you killed?” or “What made you decide that you knew better than 117 countries?” Still they did say ask me anything.

“Okay, Jarvis will be selecting questions at random, so everyone go ahead and flood the chat with anything you want to know.” Tony smiles at the camera as the first questions start rolling in.

“Does Black Widow snore?” Jarvis reads off, it’s a good question, something that will make them seem more personable, although Natasha glaring at the camera doesn’t help that image.

“Like a freight train.” Clint answers, jumping out of the way when Natasha plans to elbow him.

“What part of the Accord’s did you disagree with Captain?” Jarvis reads the next one, it’s better worded than most of the other questions along the same vein, and this is what the people want to know.

“I didn’t agree with a system where I couldn’t help people if I saw them hurting.” Steve answers, looking apologetic. “The Accords as they were would have tied our hands too much, and risked the lives of the people we fight to protect.” Tony tries not to cringe at that.

“Dr. Stark, why doesn’t your tower have a pool? What kind of billionaire doesn’t have a pool?” Jarvis reads off, and Tony tenses slightly.

“Wow, was to throw a hardball there J.” He jokes, smiling awkwardly. “I guess the kind of Billionaire who has experience being waterboarded in Afghanistan is the kind of billionaire that doesn’t have a pool.” The chat is flooded with messages then, and they wait for a moment for their audience to calm down.

“Clint, what’s it like being out of retirement?” Jarvis reads off, attempting to get everyone back on track.

“Well, it’s a lot more interesting than golf I can tell you that.” He smirks at the camera, Tony has to resist the urge to roll his eyes.

“Do any of you work outside of the Avengers? Aside from Dr. Stark of course.” Jarvis reads, Tony waits for the team to answer.

“Colonel Rhodes does, but aside from that no. We believe that being an Avenger is a full time job and should be the primary focus.” Steve answers seriously. Sam frowns slightly, he’d been considering getting his job at the VA back, not that it would be easy with the current political climate.

“Dr. Stark is colonel Rhodes the reason for your new prosthetic line?” The next question reads. Tony swallows thickly.

“To a degree, Stark Industries has been working on prosthetic’s for a long time, but Rhodey getting hurt made it my primary focus.” Tony explains. “We would have gotten to this point eventually, but Rhodey’s injury definitely pushed me to work on it faster.

“Clint, what part of the Accord’s did you disagree with?” Jarvis asks, knowing full well Clint didn’t read the Accord’s.

“Same as Cap, but I also didn’t agree with the wrongful imprisonment aspects involved.” He says, he manages to keep from glaring at Tony when he mentions it.

“Widow, did you plan to betray Team Iron Man from the start?” Jarvis shoots, and he is not being kind to them at all. Tony shouldn’t have expected him to.

“Of course not, but it’s hard to be in the middle of a fight like that. I didn’t want anyone to get hurt, and I made some poor decisions trying to prevent that.” She manages to look misty eyed.

“Sir, this one is for you. ‘I’ve been interested in your work with AI’s for years, and I was wondering what happened to DUM-E after your Malibu house blew up? Is he okay?’“ Jarvis has a pleased tone to his voice.

“Well, J. Let’s call him up and show our kind questioner.” Tony smiles at the camera. “We can take a few more questions while we wait. Let’s go for some lighter topics shall we?”

“Do any of you have or want pets?” Jarvis reads off. Wanda goes dreamy eyed.

“I want a dog.” She says, sounding fond. “A big dog, they’re always so energetic.”

“I want a dog as well.” Steve beams at her. Tony rolls his eyes and finds that the chat agrees  with him, that’s not a surprise.

“I want a dragon.” Tony jokes, getting a dirty look from Steve. “But in all seriousness I’m not much of a pet person I can barely take care of myself.
As if on cue DUM-E rolls out of the elevator coffee cup in hand. “J, is there motor oil in this?”

“No sir, but there is some hot sauce in it.” Jarvis informs him, Tony shrugs, patting Dum-E chasis.

“Thank you Dum-E.” He drinks the coffee. “That is a lot more than some hot sauce.” He grumbles, Dum-E beeping shrilly in his ear. “Hello internet, this is DUM-E.”

“The internet would like to know if he can do any tricks, Sir.” Jarvis informs him, the other Avengers are pouting now, as the chat seems focused on the little robot.

“Of course he can. He has to help out around the lab. Here, watch this Dum-E spin.” Dum-E does his best R2-D2 impression as he twirls in a circle. “Good job Dum-E now up-high.” He holds out his hand for Dum-E to bump his claw against. “fist bump.” He offers the little bot. Dum-E beeps excitedly. “And last, the most important trick of all. Dum-E Steve’s on fire.”

“What? No!” Steve says as Dum-E whirls on him, grabbing the fire extinguisher off the wall and spraying Steve down.

“He really liked Wall-E.” Tony jokes, as Dum-E seems satisfied that Steve is no longer on fire and is instead spraying the fire extinguisher while rolling in the opposite direction.

“How did you make such an adorable robot?” Jarvis reads off. Natasha is wiping foam out of her hair. Clint has a mustache made of the stuff, and Steve is practically invisible under the stuff Sam has a little on his shirt but managed to escape mostly unscathed.

“Well-” Tony Starts, but Dum-E has stopped spinning camera focused on him. “Oh no.” He grumbles, as he’s doused with the fire extinguisher. “Tell my CEO I love her.” He shouts dramatically sinking into the foam.

Dum-E is trending by the end of the day.

Ain’t No Grave (Can Keep My Body Down) by spitandvinegar

It’s six in the morning, and Steve is heading out on a run when he nearly trips over a bouquet of sunflowers on the front steps of his brownstone.

For a second paranoia takes over, and he kicks the flowers a little, waiting for them to explode. They don’t. They also came with a card, which he picks up. The front of the card has a tasteful picture of the Brooklyn bridge at sunset. It’s very nice and sedate, like the kind of card you would buy to give to your boss. On the inside someone has written a short message in big, shaky block letters.

I AM SORRY FOR SHOOTING YOU.

Steve sits down hard on the steps.

“Holy shit,” Howard says, crackling through the speakers. “You alive in there?” Lying is a sin, of course, but Steve’s not sure what else he can do. He’s already lied to the government and Bucky and God Almighty; and himself, himself most of all. He ought to tell the truth. That he’s not quite what they hoped for. That perhaps they should put him back into the ocean.

“Probably,” he says, instead, listening to Howard’s tinny laughter; and waits for the blast doors to unlock.

Steve gets out of the hospital in two days, but just barely. “I’m fine,” he tells Sam, Nurse Eunjung and the phalanx of doctors assigned to make sure Captain America didn’t bleed out and die and get bad PR all over their nice clean hospital. “I have an advanced healing factor. It’s fine. See? I’m standing.”

“That is not standing,” Sam tells him.

“You’re bending the IV stand,” Nurse Eunjung adds pointedly. “Let go and sit down, they don’t grow on trees.”

Unfortunately, being a 21 year old college student makes it harder for him to come up with excuses, and with Christmas coming up he needs to think of a way out fast. A chance encounter with a stranger through an old library textbook could just be the kind of miracle he needs to make it through the holidays with his last shreds of sanity intact.

to memory now I can’t recall by Etharei

While on a mission storming a HYDRA facility, James Buchanan Barnes touches one of the many strange alien devices collected by the Red Skull. He does this, in fact, twice— in the past, and in the future.

Next thing he knows, Bucky Barnes is opening his eyes in the 21st century, which is full of great gadgets and coffee, and at least includes his old pal Steve. (And, inexplicably, a different Stark.) Meanwhile, the Winter Soldier finds himself in the middle of World War Two, helping Captain America hunt down HYDRA (which is at least familiar), pretending to be Bucky Barnes (which is not), and figuring out the very noisy group of soldiers who call themselves the Howling Commandos.

War, Children by Nonymos

After Bucky was released from the hospital, it only took him a couple of weeks to give up on himself. Difficult to believe in any kind of future when the simple act of staying alive was almost too big an effort.

Out the frosted window, across the street, there was a tiny homeless guy burrowing under an awning.

It was in the stillness of the morning where you allowed yourself to marvel in the fact that you now called this place home. In a few weeks, it would be two years since you arrived Los Angeles without a clue and barely a plan. It was amazing to think back on the path you had taken, the struggles you’ve had, and the sacrifices you have made.

Pressing the mug to your lips, you took a sip and felt a presence behind you seconds before a pair of muscular arms wrapped around your waist.

“The ocean is that way, you know,” he teased, hooking his thumb in the direction behind you.

Summary:

Y/N’s curious, clumsy, and has a knack for asking the wrong questions at the wrong time. Bucky’s a hot-headed prick with a dark past and communication issues. Both are paired for training, and neither party is all too thrilled.

Word count: 1465

“Can I ask you a question?”

You want to say you sound suave and totally collected, but really, it comes out more like you’re being suffocated simultaneously. Bucky’d decided that you were severely out of shape and proposed going for a run. It was a great idea in theory, but now you’re starting to think the running is more for him to be able to rub in your face the fact that he’s fit and you’re not.

“No.”

You ask anyway. “Steve mentioned these abilities I could have. What did he mean?” The question’s been bugging you for a while. Given the chances, you should have gotten at least one opportunity where your supposed abilities got their time to shine, but nada. Do you even have powers? What if it’s something pathetic, like conjuring hot sauce at the snap of your fingers?

You’re so busy snapping your fingers that you almost don’t notice that he doesn’t respond, or even acknowledge that you asked a question.

“Why are you so grumpy all the time?” You’re not the kind of person to snap at someone else, especially not someone that’s supposed to be your superior. Plus, it’s not even among the questions you have in mind, but it’s just such a pressing issue. How can someone be so angry twenty-four seven anyway?

His face takes on a look that you’ve become pretty accustomed to in the last few days: He stares straight ahead of him, not a single emotion flickering over his features, and you know that he’s supressing an eye-roll.

He doesn’t answer.

“See what I mean?” You widen your eyes dramatically and throw your hands up. “You can’t even give me an answer!”

If he’s riled up, he doesn’t show it, and in all honesty, it’s getting you riled up. You’re not going to back down until he gives you some kind of response. Maybe you can even unlock his cliché backstory. So you press further.

“C'mon! There’s got to be something.” No response.

“Even Batman has a reason to be brooding all the time!” He turns to glare at you and you falter for a moment. “Okay, okay, cool, nothing about Batman.”

Bucky closes his eyes and exhales slowly, then faces forward again and picks up the pace. You struggle to keep up with him as he runs you up a hill and through a trail in the forest. You run in silence as you catch your breath and relish in the cool shade of the trees, until you can’t bite your tongue any longer.

“Are you afraid of bats?”

He halts without warning, digging his heels into the ground to come to a complete stop. You keep going, not even noticing that he’s stopped, until you’re running into him. Literally.

Bucky gives you a look of pure exasperation as he grabs your wrists, stepping forward and pulling you in until your hands are resting against his chest. There are so many other questions on your mind, but you can’t remember a single one all of a sudden.

“Shut. Up.” He growls. Your hands can feel the vibrations of his chest.

You’re not scared of Bucky Barnes. You're not. It’s not your fault your voice is an octave higher when you stammer out a meek “sorry.”

So maybe you’re a little scared of Bucky Barnes, but you’re starting to figure him out. His intimidation tactics are straight from the book: glares, low tone of voice, and the whole invasion of personal space thing he’s got going on.

Like right now. You’re wedged between the railing of the training room’s mezzanine and Bucky’s chest. It’s not necessarily uncomfortable, but you’re hyperaware of everything around you, and every time he speaks, you can feel your own body reverberate. At best, it’s distracting.

“Hold it like this.” Bucky’s breath fans the side of your neck when you speak, and it takes all your willpower to not squirm. His hands grab the gun with yours, but really, he’s doing most of the work. You can barely concentrate, and the gun feels so heavy in your hands you feel like you may drop it if he lets go.

“Aim carefully, and then shoot.” He pulls the trigger. You’re not ready for the kickback, and the force of the gun firing presses you further back into his chest. Bucky doesn’t move an inch. Instead, he opts to kick your left foot forward. You almost topple over, and this time, you swear you can feel him rolling his eyes.

“Hit that target.” He points to the outline of a body near the back of the room, then lets go of the gun, placing his hands on the railing on either side of you so that your back is still against his chest, though now, you barely notice. Your palms feel sweaty and gun feels so wrong in your hands. There’s a little voice at the back of your head telling you that you can’t do it, and you almost turn to look at Bucky for reassurance. Almost.

You aim, or at least, you hope you’re aiming, and this time you prepare yourself for the kickback. Your finger moves slowly across the trigger, and you screw your eyes shut as the gun fires.

This time the sound makes you flinch, and you don’t even have to open your eyes to know that you missed. Bucky sighs, pushing off of the railing and stepping back.

“Great job, rookie. You only missed by twenty fucking feet.”

Sure enough, there’s a hole in the target at the far left of the room.

“What’s the deal with him?”

It’s been five days since you missed every single target in the training room, and Bucky and you have come no closer to being acquainted than you were when you first showed up at the compound. The only thing he seems to do is be too close too often, effectively shutting you up. Part of you is resentful towards yourself for being so intimidated.

Bucky’s on a mission, and for once you’ve gotten time off. You savour it by curling yourself up in blankets, with a hot water bottle pressed against your sore muscles, and complaining to Sam about how Bucky is unreasonably training (you prefer the word ‘torturing’) you everyday.

Sam laughs, giving you a warm smile, and you wonder why Bucky can’t also just, y'know, smile or something? Show some form of emotion that isn’t cold and menacing?

“He’s a tough one,” Sam says.

“How do you even put up with him?” You throw your hands up in exasperation to prove your point, but regret it immediately as pain flares up your sore arms. Sam laughs again.

“Steve trusts him. I trust Steve.”

Steve must be some kind of altruistic hero if everyone seems to like him so much, and if he can handle someone like Bucky. You’ve seen him around a few times here and there, and he always passes you a small smile, but he never seems to have time to stop and talk, and his face is constantly riddled with stress. Not the life you want to live.

“Anyway,” Sam continues. “When Wanda gets back, she’ll probably take over for him. She’s enhanced too, so she’ll make a better trainer in your case.”

There’s that word again. Enhanced. You’ve tried every possible thing you can think of: snapping your fingers, all the possible hand movements you’ve seen in the movies and that the gaps in your memory let you recall, but nothing. (The memory thing is a whole other issue that should keep you up at night, but by the time you go to bed, Bucky’s exhausted you to the point where you can barely keep your eyes open, let alone think). The whole situation is so muddled, and it ignites this panic in your stomach that you’re trying to diminish by not thinking about it. Your thoughts flash back to the words Bucky had said when he was first assigned to train with you.

“He said I can’t be trusted,” you say, turning to face Sam. You wince at the soreness of your muscles, then look at Sam expectantly. “Is it– are there enhanced people–,” the word sounds weird in your mouth. “Am I dangerous?”

Sam frowns. “I don’t think,” he pauses, collecting his thoughts. “He was probably talking about himself, not you.”

It’s your turn to be confused, but before you have a chance to ask him what he means, Steve rushes into the room, a pained look on his face.

“Sam, I–”

Sam stands up. “Hey man, what’s wrong?”

Steve’s entire body is tense as he looks between the two of you, then he sighs, putting his head in his hands.

“It’s Bucky. He’s been shot.”

It goes to show that something as seemingly insignificant as a ten-minute phone call can change everything.

“What is it this time?”

“Infiltration.” Steve hesitates before adding, “Of a HYDRA base.”

Bucky who, for the first time ever, voluntarily chose to sit next to you for this meeting, clenches his fists under the table.

“Even me?” Bruce questions, stealing your attention away from HYDRA’s former golden boy. He’s fiddling with the sleeves of his sweater and you wish you could offer him some kind of comfort. You know how opposed he is to becoming the big, green monster unless it’s absolutely necessary.

“We’re only going to need your medical expertise for this one Doc.”

“Oh thank god.” Bruce sinks back in his seat and relief floods through you. At least someone is guaranteed to come out of this mission unscathed.

Prologue
***************
“Hey, Tony can I–”

“Jesus.” The plate Tony was holding shattered across the kitchen floor when it slipped through his fingers. “Jesus, Steve sorry about that. Sorry.”

“I didn’t mean to startle you.” Steve said with a frown, and Tony just shook his head.

“It’s fine. Just lost a little in my head is all.” He bent down to start cleaning up the mess.

“Let me hel–”

“I got it.” Tony waved him away. “What can I do for you, Captain?”

“Well, I was thinking maybe you could take a look at Bucky’s arm? It’s been freezing up or not flexing or something and it’s hurting him quite a bit. I told him you’d be happy to help him with it.”

Happy to help–” Tony cleared his throat. “That’s fine. But I’m busy, so send him to Banner. He’s got access to everything in the lab anyway.”

“I was hoping you would–”

“I’m busy, Steve.” Tony wiped his hands on his pants and raised his eyebrows. “Banner is smarter than me anyway, he will find a fix faster than I can. Sorry, I just can’t right now. Sorry.”

“Uh, okay. I’ll just take him to Banner then.” Steve sent him an odd look, but turned and left anyway, and Tony sank down into a chair, sitting on his hands so it wasn’t quite as obvious they were shaking.
*******************
“Sorry, Clint, uh, you guys, I didn’t realize you were in here.” Tony did an abrupt about face and headed right back out of the room, and Clint raised his eyebrows.

“Tony. It’s not a problem.”

“I don’t want to intrude.” Tony held up his hands peacefully and Natasha narrowed her eyes at him.

“Since when do you care if you are intruding, just come in and sit down. It’s called a common area, Stark.”

“Lay off.” Sam sent her a sharp glance. “You don’t have to say everything like it’s an insult.”

“Excuse me?” Natasha’s voice rose the slightest bit and Tony coughed loudly.

“Hey, it’s all fine. Let’s not fight okay? No worries, no harm no foul. I know she doesn’t mean anything by it, it’s fine. All I needed was my tablet, it’s just there on the end table, I’ll just grab it.”

“Here, Tony.” Sam tossed it to him and Tony caught it, but just barely, bringing it down to his side before anyone noticed the slip.

“Ok. Ok thanks guys. See ya. Sorry again.” He turned and left, trying to slow his breathing down a little.

He hated when they fought.

Important question about Steve's new look

So we’ve established, a few times now, that Steve is EXTRA. His boyfriend went into the ice, and now he has a sadness beard and wears all black. But here’s the really important question: what kind of angsty music is he listening to?

Like has he stumbled onto 90s Nine Inch Nails? (“What have I become? My sweetest friend/Everyone I know, goes away in the end”). Evanescence and Linkin Park like it’s 2002? Is he listening to miserable indie rock like a Good Brooklyn Boy? Crying to The National and Elliott Smith?

Or is he doing the scene boy thing? If so, what kind of scene??? Metalcore like the Devil Wears Prada? Aesthetically, he’d fit in with the metalcore bros, as they have buff dudes with beards, but I’m just not sure it’s lyrically the best fit. Lots of zombies. Does he go for pop punk like Fall Out Boy, My Chem, and all their friends? Mid-2000s Long Island sad boys like Brand New and Taking Back Sunday? I imagine Pierce the Veil is a good fit: “My love for you was bulletproof, but you’re the one who shot me.”

THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT I, A SAD GIRL ™, WANT TO KNOW.

katherinem1996  asked:

Hi :] I followed you recently, and I'm glad I did. I like your Bucky cuddle drabbles, and I think you're really talented. If it's not too much trouble, could you maybe do a headcannon for dating pre-serum Steve? Thanks 💜

Thank you, love! You’re too sweet <3 I hope you like this. (I don’t think headcanons are supposed to be nearly 2k but oops my hands slipped. Thanks to @sarahwroteathing for being an angel and always helping me with everything.)

Dating pre-serum Steve

It started off a little weird. Steve’s been your best friend since you met him. But he was laughing really hard at something you said–so hard he had tears in his eyes. Something bubbled up in you, and you leaned in real close and stole a quick kiss from his plush lips.

He stops immediately. Well, that’s new. He’s looking at you with those deep blue eyes, waiting for an answer…but you don’t have one. It was an impulse. Why had you done that?

Steve licks his bottom lip subconsciously and scoots close to you, going slowly so you have a chance to tell him if you don’t want this. But you suddenly realize you do–you want him with every fibre of your being. His kiss is hesitant, still waiting for you to push him away. After the initial shock of the situation, you kiss him back more surely.

He shows you off all the time.

On your first date, Steve takes you dancing because that’s what he’s supposed to do, right? That’s what Bucky does with all the dames he takes out. Despite all the practicing he and Bucky do before your date, Steve is so self conscious. He doesn’t want to make a fool of himself in front of you. But, you see him fumbling as he shoots you shy, nervous smiles when he misses a step. Your heart swells with affection for him as you decide to pretend to be equally hopeless. You trip over his foot a couple times, go for a spin when there clearly wasn’t a call for one. Steve loosens up as you both make up outrageous dance moves for the ones that can’t be done.

Bucky gets wind of it and refuses to go on a double date with this trainwreck of a couple until you get some dance lessons.

Bucky insists to teach you both himself in the boys’ apartment. He’s moved the furniture around to accommodate a dancefloor. You’re a pretty decent dancer, truth be told; but you keep up appearances for Steve’s sake. That, and it’s actually a lot more fun to botch dance moves with Bucky than you would have initially thought. The teasing was well worth hearing your man laugh until he couldn’t breathe. Literally. Poor baby agitated his Asthma more while laughing with you and Bucky than anything else.

Steve will realize one day that he’s still talking to you like you’re just his best friend Y/N. He gets a bit self conscious about it, and is determined to treat you more like a lady. You’re his girl, after all, and you should be treated like a queen. He stutters ‘more appropriate’ compliments out, blushing as soon as he sees the questioning look on your face. When you ask him what’s going on, he tells you that he’s trying to treat you like a girlfriend. You giggle, kissing his cheek and making him blush again. “You don’t have to worry about that, Stevie. I fell for you because you were my friend.”

Steve compliments you all the time. His goal is to make you blush at least once a day. Some days, though, it gets to be too much and you have to kiss him just to shut him up.

Just because Steve is you boyfriend now, doesn’t mean you don’t still hang out like you did before. You, Steve, and Bucky still go down to the creek and skip rocks together. You all still go to the railroad and have adventures in your abandoned railway car. Just because you and Steve steal kisses when you think Bucky isn’t looking, doesn’t change that the three of you are still best friends.

His notebooks are full of sketches and doodles of you, of your individual features. There’s a lot of your eyes, of your smile…conveying every emotion between the nose scrunch you do when he compliments you, to the little frown that pulls at your lips when Bucky says something unsavory (it doesn’t happen often, Bucky’s usually a gentleman around you), to the dreamy look you get in your eyes when you see a mother pushing her baby in a stroller.

One day, Steve is so caught up in watching you as you watch kids play at the park. “I’m gonna marry you.” He blurts it out with such sincerity, he blushes deeply. You just smile at him coyly. A sweet laugh falls from your lips and it makes Steve tumble further into the void. You spend the rest of the day proposing to Steve in crazy ways while he laughs, “Shaddup, Dollface.”

When he gets sick during the winter after his mom passes, you refuse to leave his side. He tells you that you’re gonna get sick, too, if you keep hanging around him; but, you don’t care. You and Bucky get scared for a couple of days. You both think it could be a possibility that this is the illness that will finally claim Steve’s life. But the little runt always proves you both wrong.

Steve’s such a sap about it. “I only made it because you stayed with me. I guess I have to marry you, now. You’re the only thing keeping me alive.” You’re so relieved that you’re crying and laughing so hard you have to bury your face in his chest. When you finally calm down, you place a delicate kiss on his forehead and smile fondly at him. “You’re darn right you do, you chucklehead.”

Steve’s gotten into less fights being with you. You’re so in sync with him that you know what makes his blood boil. His righteousness has bled into your being, and you can’t help but mouth off to any bully that you two come across. Even when they continue with their wrongdoing, you refuse to back down until they stalk off with their tail between their legs. Steve always goes a little starry eyed when this happens.

When the war breaks out, you know Steve will want to enlist and it makes your stomach churn uncomfortably. You always hope and pray that he’ll get denied, and you’ll thank whatever deity was listening when he comes back with a sullen look on his face and rejection paper in his hand. You tell him that they don’t know what they’re missing out on. He launches into a speech about how he should be out there defending what’s his. He has so much patriotism, it moves you. You only feel a little guilty for being selfish and wanting to keep him home, safe.

When Bucky gets drafted, it’s hard on all of you. Steve tries to enlist again, and he comes home with the biggest grin on his face. Your stomach drops when you see the stamp of approval on his forms, but you smile and hug him because you know this is what he wants. When he lets you go, he looks at you seriously. “I know you’re scared, but they’re giving me a chance. I want to go out there and defend my country..defend my girl.” He brushes your hair away from your face. “And–and, well…” He stutters and fumbles to get something out of his pocket. “I want to know that you’ll still be here when I get back.” He holds a ring between his fingers, your breath leaves you completely. “So, Y/N, will you marry–?”

You don’t give him the opportunity to finish, pressing kiss after kiss to his lips as he slips the ring onto your finger.

When you take him to the train station, he kisses you longingly, knocking the breath out of you. Steve tells you he’ll write as soon as he can. The train starts moving, he almost misses it because he doesn’t want to leave you. As soon as he hops on, he yells, “I love you!” The goofy grin on his face makes you smile through your tears and you stay rooted on the spot until long after the train has left your sight.

Weeks pass and you don’t hear anything from Steve. No letters. No calls. You’re worried. Who wouldn’t be? That is, until you see the propaganda films of Captain America. He looks dreamy. So strong, so sure, so..familiar?

You’re in the middle of a theater when you realize that Captain America is Steve. Your fiancee, Steven Grant Rogers, is Captain America. You nearly pass out from the shock. You immediately go out and buy every paper that has news about Captain America in it.

It’s about four days after that when you finally get a call from him. He sounds so happy, so relieved to hear your voice before you go crazy. You ask him all kinds of questions, hardly waiting for a response before launching into another set of questions. “Doll! Doll!” he calls through the phone when he can hear you’re about to hyperventilate. “I’m okay. Let me tell you what happened.”

And he does. He tells you everything that’s happened since he left five months ago: the experimental procedure, traveling the country to sell bonds, Bucky’s capture, the very unauthorized rescue mission. He tells you that he’s part of a specialized group called the Howling Commandos. You listen, absolutely enraptured until he tells you that he has to go. He tells you he’ll call again soon.

Steve calls you weekly while he’s in the army. His calls become the highlight of your week.

You still collect newspapers with Captain America and the Howling Commandos news.

It’s late September 1945 when Steve and Bucky finally come home. You see Bucky first and launch into his arms, kissing his cheek, telling him how happy you are that he’s home. A throat clears beside you, and your jaw drops at the sight of your fiancee. Yes, you’d seen him in propagandas and newspaper articles, but seeing this new Steve in the flesh was something you’d have to get used to.

His smile is the same, though, and it melts your insides. You release Bucky and slowly make your way over to Steve, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him tightly into your embrace. His face is buried in your neck, strong arms wrapping around you and lifting you from the ground. You’re both so ecstatic that you’re crying. You’re pressing kisses wherever you can reach while he tells you how much he’s missed you, how he’s ready to marry you, start a family with you.

You two wind up going to the courthouse that day with Bucky as your witness and marry your best friend.

Don’t Say Anything (part 1)

Summary: You finally decide to tell Bucky that you’ve been in love with him since the day you met but what happens when you walk in on him with a girl? And not just any girl; Natasha.

Pairing: Bucky x Reader

Warnings: angsty angsty angst

A/N: I KNOW I HAVE “STAR-CROSSED” AND “TAINTED LOVE” TO FINISH BUT THIS IDEA POPPED IN MY HEAD WHILE I WAS DOING DISHES AND I COULDN’T HELP MYSELF I’M SO SORRY ALSo I’ll edit later my friends :) alsoooo it’s kinda short but ye

“Nat?” you spoke softly as the two of you laid on your bed, staring up at the ceiling.

“Yeah?”

You turn your head to her. “Do you think it’s time I tell you know who that I like him?”

Natasha looks over at you and smiles. “I’d say yeah, you’ve been talking about him for years now Y/N. You’re madly in love with this dude which, by the way, I still do not know.”

You blush. You weren’t about to tell her that the man you’ve been crushing on is Bucky. No one knew how you felt about him and you’re surprised that Natasha didn’t already figure out who you always talked about.

“Well, if everything goes well I’ll tell you who he is.” you say.

“You better. It’s not nice keeping your best friend in the dark like this.” she jokes.

You laugh. “Oh hush.”

“I need to interview this guy. Make sure he’s good for you.”

“Soon my dear, soon.”

Your door suddenly opens, revealing the man you’re in love with.

“Hey Y/N, I just came by to ask if you wanted to go get a milkshake with me.” he smiled.

“I’ll get going. See ya later, snooka.” Nat says, kissing your cheek before leaving your room.

You look over at Bucky. He’s so beautiful.

“So, what do ya say?” he’s now leaning against the doorframe.

Steve would kill you if you drank a milkshake, especially since you’re training with him tomorrow. But Bucky throws on his best pouty face and you’re done for.

“Let’s go.”

You enter your room after a tiring training session with Steve only to find Wanda sitting on your bed with a smile on her face.

“What are you doing here?” you question.

“I’m here to train you.”

You scoff. “I don’t know if you knew this but I just got back from training with Steve so..”

Wanda playfully rolls her eyes. “Not that kind of training. I’m here to train you for when you tell that guy that you like him.”

You nod. Wasn’t Natasha supposed to help you with that?

“Nat said she had something to do and asked me to help you.” she adds as if she could read your mind.

“Okay.” you nod. “So what should I do first?”

“Well if I knew who he was..” she trailed off and you laugh.

“You’re not getting it out of me, Wanda.”

“Darn.” she frowns. “When am I going to meet the guy? He could be a murderer for all I know!”

You chuckle. “If he feels the same way about me, you’ll meet him soon.”
Although you’ve already met him.

“He’d be a fool to not like you back, Y/N. You’re a big ball of happiness mixed with cute things and sprinkles.” she tells you and you smile. “Okay so we have to work on what you’ll say to him. You don’t want to be stumbling over your words or stuttering. That’s really awkward.”

“This is going to be harder than I thought.” you sigh.

“Pretend I’m Jake.” she says and you give her a confused look.

“Who’s Jake?”

“The guy, duh.” she spoke. “You won’t tell me who he is so we gotta improvise.”

“Oh, right. Okay.” you clear your throat and close your eyes, Bucky’s face coming into your mind. You can see him smiling at you, waiting for you to speak. You open your eyes. “Hey.. Jake.” oh god saying Jake was so weird.

“Hey, Y/N. What’s up?” Wanda responds. Your throat began to feel dry. Why - how?

“I just wanted to stop by and tell you that I love yo- your sweater.” you sigh and squeeze your eyes shut.

“Wrong! Do it again. And be less.. Cringy.” Wanda says.

You glare at her. “Oh jeez, thanks for boosting my confidence.”

“I’m trying to help you get laid here.” she gives you a look.

“Actually-”

“Do it again.”

You take a deep breath and nod, speaking from your heart. “Jake.. We’ve known each other for quite some time now and every time we hang out it’s amazing. You’re amazing. You know how to make me laugh and our conversations are never boring. You’re a really interesting person Jake. What I’m trying to say is.. I like you. I have since the day I met you, and I want to know if you feel the same way.”

You exhale, not knowing you were holding your breath before and Wanda’s lips turn upwards into a smile. “You did it.”

“I did it.” you breathe out. Wanda chuckles and you break out into a grin. “Thank you so much Wanda.”

You pull her into a hug and she squeezes you. “Go tell him. You got this.”

You rush down the hall, nearly tackling Tony down in the process. Bucky’s door comes up into view and your heart starts beating quickly. You’re going to do it. You’re going to tell Bucky how you feel. Finally.

You stop in front of his door and take a deep breath before twisting the knob and pushing it open, not even bothering to knock. At the sight in front of you, your heart drops.

“Y/N?”

Bucky moves away from Natasha, both their hair a mess. Nat’s shirt was discarded, thrown across the room and Bucky was just in his boxers. His lips were red and swollen from kissing. You almost forgot how to breathe.

“Oh god..” Nat murmurs, throwing her head in her hands.

“Y/N, hey.” Bucky grabs your attention again, standing up from his bed. “Listen I-I.. No one knows about.. Nat and I.. Please don’t tell anyone.”

You look between Natasha and Bucky. How stupid could you be? To actually think that Bucky might like you back. Of course he doesn’t. Of course he likes Nat. Of course they have a thing going on. Why wouldn’t they?

You muster up a fake smile. “Your secret is safe with me.”

Bucky lets out a sigh of relief and pulls you into a hug. “Thank you so much Y/N.”

You keep your hands at your sides, not daring to wrap them around him. When he pulls away, you clear your throat. “I’ll uh.. Get going.”

Bucky nods. “Thank you.. Again.”

“No problem.” you back out of his room and he shuts the door, leaving you to stare at it.

If only you knocked.

A/N: Tell me what ya think :)))))))))) It’ll get better, I promise.
