Reasons

Peter Parker x reader

Anytime one of the avengers showed PDA with their significant other you and Peter would yell “get a room” or some other snarky remark.

“Hey, Parker, (L/N) why do you two make fun of us when you’re dating,” Steve questioned one day. You and Peter looked at each other,“reasons,” you whispered. “What kind of reasons,” Steve pestered. You were mad now,“does it matter, really does it. Because if it does I’ll tell you just so you can bud out,” your voice was loud now. Peter said to Steve,“I think you should give her some space.” And with that the super soldier left.

You and Peter aren’t against PDA you actually are worse than everyone else in private. You weren’t always so against PDA but your teenage brain is very impressionable. You thought back to when you stopped.

While walking to school Peter had his arm around you and planted a kiss on your cheek. At that exact moment some jerk shouted,“get a room nerds.” This didn’t phase either of you but the next person did. “How can you kiss that fat cow,” they laughed. Peter replied with, “like this,” he proceeded to kiss you on the lips. Those words had gotten to you but you weren’t going to let them see that. They didn’t give up though,“oh you wanna be smart. Well you and your chubby chasing ass can go back to farm with the cow,“ they scoffed. Luckily they walked off in time to not see you wedge yourself away from your boyfriend. When you got over that incident another happened. You were holding hands this time when this man, who you’re pretty sure is in a certain racist cult, walked up to you. He calmly said,” young man, are you in a relationship with this nigger.“ Everyone around you just stopped, seriously who just does that.” Excuse me,“ you were beyond confused right now. The man looked at you,“shut up you worthless piece of shit. You’re dragging this boy into the gates of hell. There was a time when this,” he spat while gesturing between you and Peter,“was illegal. That was a much better time, people weren’t exposing themselves to poison then.” You didn’t even have a chance to respond before Peter punched him in the face. Peter, the Peter that never fights Radom people on street Peter. “Come on let’s go,” he tried to put his hand on your back but you walked ahead of him. That’s when it started, for months you avoided PDA without Peter saying anything. When you two were in your bed cuddling and watching movies he kissed your cheek,“hey (Y/N),” he continued to kiss your face. “Yeah,” you turned and kissed him back. “Why don’t you ever let me touch you in public anymore,” he sounded very serious about this. You sat up and sighed,“because every time we do someone has something to say about it. They get to me Peter, I notice the stares and the laughing but I don’t tell you. I might be okay with it later but for now lets just stick to this.” You got back into your spot on the bed. “Fine by me,” he pecked your cheek.

Rodgers wanted his reasons right?

A/N I know the ending sucks but I needed to get the bad ideas out because I’m working on a long one.

A Personal Connection

Summary: Bucky may or may not have a crush on Steve’s PA.

Word Count: 5,551

Category: Fluff/Very light smut

Warnings: Cursing (per usual), some smutty stuff but not all that explicit, etc.

A/N: A whole month! Time really flies. This was going to include more explicit smut scenes in it, but, after some deliberation, I’ve decided to put that into a separate work. It’ll be a continuation of this with actual smut in it. Hopefully the separation doesn’t disrupt too much and also allows readers that a) don’t enjoy reading explicit smut and b) don’t connect with an explicitly biologically female reader can still enjoy the story. Thank you for reading and understanding!

She had started out as a way to appease Tony, who had insisted that Steve needed a personal assistant. Stark blathered on and on about how much his life had changed after getting a PA and how maybe a little help with coordinating and the day to day tasks would “remove the stick from that star-spangled ass.”

So, Steve had caved and asked Pepper to set up a couple of interviews with people interested in the job. After a parade of ecstatic fans and sexual propositions, he was just about ready to give up.

Instead, at the end of a very long day of being ogled and fawned over, (Y/N) had appeared with a rose-scented resume and two popsicles she’d bought from the street-vendor outside the Tower. Her smile was sweet and her eyes kind, a little wide at the opulence of the Stark equipment, but not predatory like the previous applicants.

If debuting at #2 on the UK charts, hitting #1 on Itunes in 42 countries, hitting #2 on Itunes WORLDWIDE, debuting at #1 on Billboard’s dance/EDM charts, and hitting #1 in 50 countries on Itunes Dance IS NOT enough to get you A-listed in the top UK radio stations, then what will?

This is the question most of us are asking about “Just Hold On.” Because these are real numbers. These are facts.

The bigger issue is that “Just Hold On” was a proven success when it was released. But it still had no radio support until weeks later in January. It still didn’t get the promotional support it deserved despite being a PROVEN entity.

Think about it - how many artists on Sony’s and JGG’s roster can even bring in that kind of success when a song drops? and take note, Just Hold On and Louis/Steve got zero promotion and zero hype BEFORE JHO dropped and YET they still managed to get those numbers in! No one even KNEW It was coming!

Do you know that when JHO dropped,  Louis Tomlinson’s Spotify profile grew SO QUICKLY? It was ranked 40th in the world and had over 15 million monthly listeners? Imagine that! All because of one song! This is Louis Tomlinson solo! He managed to outrank so many established solo artists.

Yet he still didn’t get the promotional support his song and him, as an artist, deserved.

And this was AFTER he brought the numbers in. His team had weeks before the January promo to really get a good plan together and YET….

Look, If you don’t get your own label and management’s support after ALL THAT success, then something is really wrong, isn’t it? Really makes you wonder what Louis has to prove at this point, and what he’s really up against.

Why did his team continue shitting on him and generating bad press even after he was a proven success???

You hugged your knees to your chest as best as you could in the cramped plane and stared out the window. Thankfully, you had plenty of music on your phone, so you simply plugged in your headphones and tuned out the rest of the world.

Once you landed and collected your baggage, you realized just how late it was. The sun had set during the flight, and it was now well past midnight. You could have easily called a taxi, but you weren’t sure that you could handle being stuck in the back of a taxi for the ride back home. You didn’t want to have to make awkward small talk. All you wanted was to curl up in bed and sleep.

Every day, Words With Friends shows me a “match of the day” person they say they hand-picked *just for me*, and want me to play against.

The suggestions are priceless.

First of all, roughly 50% are grandmas.

Another 20% are middleaged guys with sunglasses who reeeaaally like to take selfies in their cars.

#1 looks to be in a driver’s seat, whereas #2 is in a passenger sea– … wait, are they in the same car?

Are they double-car-sunglasses-selfie buddies?!

I’m not entirely sure what’s happening in this photo… which one’s Jolene? Is she the too-bright one in the foreground with no face?

…also, where on earth are they? Tile floor, some kind of seating, floor-mounted computer kiosk… I’m so confused.

At least this shot makes sense.

These nice people just wanted to take a selfie with the damp pavement outside their house. I mean, hey, we’ve all been there.

At first, I thought the app was just suggesting some guy named Steve, but then I looked at the photo, and – plot twist – it appears Steve might actually be his last name.

This also raises the question of what mother decided to name their kid Tyler Steve.

…and the same goes for the mother that named her son Zyngawf 34260864.

Poor, poor Pippifuzz. They’re just a ghostly outline, doomed forever to haunt the halls of Words With Friends suggestions.

Brandon doesn’t have it much better, seeing as he’s a cloud of mist next to a bridge. At least he has a semi-corporeal body, unlike poor Pippifuzz.

Fred… Fred’s seen some hard times.

As does this dog.

As does–…

What I’m talking about when I’m talking about Soft Bucky

If Steve’s Mister Leadership, then Bucky’s Mister Nurturing.  He grew up the eldest kid in a busy family and there’s no way he doesn’t know a thing or two about infant care.  Soft Bucky who had always harboured some little aspiration of going to college, but gladly took a job out of school instead because his family was stretched thin enough as it was.  Soft Bucky who dreamed of one day spending the summer in a cabin in the mountains with Steve, where Steve could practice his sketches and Bucky could finally write that novel he knew he had in him; the clean air would do them both good, he reasoned, and you could see so many more stars without the city lights to get in the way.  Soft Bucky who wanted to show all the wonders of the universe to Steve.  Soft Bucky who always had Steve’s back in a fight, and was there to ice down his bruises and bandage his scrapes.  Soft Bucky who was never afraid to give Steve a damn good talking to when he was too stubborn to slow down and put his own needs first.  Soft Bucky who’s always longed for a little family of his own, but never really let himself dream of it because fellas like him didn’t get to dream of nice things like that when he was coming of age and realising that the only person he ever wanted to make a little life with was his best friend Steve.

Soft Bucky who was proud to be posted with the 107th when he was drafted, and was the damn best at what he did because he wasn’t about to let his men down, not because he revels in battle, but because he is loyal and kind.  Soft Bucky who’s first question when Steve burst in to save him (because of course, if anyone was going to be there exactly when he needed someone, it was going to be Steve), suddenly so strong and tall, was not how it happened or what amazing things he could now do, but whether it hurt.  Soft Bucky, who quietly deferred when he saw that he was not the only one who looked at Steve and saw that he was made of the most beautiful stardust in all the universe, whose love would become a ghost story, a tale told in a whisper, an almost, and a can’t-be, because that was all a fella like him could hope for in those days, but Steve was happy, and he would be grateful for that.

Soft Bucky who fought and fought and raged before he would let himself become submerged, until there was nothing and no-one left to live for, who watched some blank and ersatz version of a person using his body, over and over, for things he could never unsee, clawing at the walls of his mind, until Steve and his stupid stubborn fists punched through with a few little words and set him free, and in his shame and confusion, for fear of the hurt he had done, he ran.

Soft Bucky who spent two years keeping his head down, drifting from country to country while he pieced together his history, following a labyrinthine treasure map until he found himself.  Soft Bucky who could have spent those two years, and all the intelligence he had in him, hunting down all the people who had hurt him and picking them off just as easily as he could shoot a row of cans off of fence posts with a sniper rifle, but who chose not to take revenge.  Soft Bucky, whose revenge is just to live, and be kind.

I’m talking about Soft Bucky who at first was afraid to tell Steve how much he remembered to protect him, who was so torn between regret that he had caused Steve so much trouble, and gratitude that, at long last, he is back where he belongs.

Soft Bucky who’s going to be in therapy for years, who still wakes up in a cold sweat, haunted; soft Bucky who bristles at the idea of taking orders, of being controlled, who mentally maps out all the potential exits every time he enters a room for the first time, but slowly lets himself feel safe.  Soft Bucky who has friends he loves who love him too.  Soft Bucky who finds purpose in using his hands to create rather than to destroy: kneading flour and water together into soft dough to bake bread, feeling the comforting scrape of pen against paper as he scribbles down old memories and new stories in his many notebooks - and later, using wood reclaimed from old barns to build beautiful nursery furniture as they await the arrival of the new member of their family.

Soft Bucky who still upbraids Steve in no uncertain terms if he catches him going out without a scarf in winter, who loves his family and friends more than words can say, who likes going to the farmer’s market on Saturdays and brunch on Sundays.

Soft Bucky who lives with gratitude and love, who finally gets to live the things he never let himself dream of, because somehow, he and Steve woke into a world where fellas like him can, so they do.

That’s what I’m talking about.

It’s six in the morning, and Steve is heading out on a run when he nearly trips over a bouquet of sunflowers on the front steps of his brownstone.

For a second paranoia takes over, and he kicks the flowers a little, waiting for them to explode. They don’t. They also came with a card, which he picks up. The front of the card has a tasteful picture of the Brooklyn bridge at sunset. It’s very nice and sedate, like the kind of card you would buy to give to your boss. On the inside someone has written a short message in big, shaky block letters.

I AM SORRY FOR SHOOTING YOU.

Steve sits down hard on the steps.

“Holy shit,” Howard says, crackling through the speakers. “You alive in there?” Lying is a sin, of course, but Steve’s not sure what else he can do. He’s already lied to the government and Bucky and God Almighty; and himself, himself most of all. He ought to tell the truth. That he’s not quite what they hoped for. That perhaps they should put him back into the ocean.

“Probably,” he says, instead, listening to Howard’s tinny laughter; and waits for the blast doors to unlock.

Steve gets out of the hospital in two days, but just barely. “I’m fine,” he tells Sam, Nurse Eunjung and the phalanx of doctors assigned to make sure Captain America didn’t bleed out and die and get bad PR all over their nice clean hospital. “I have an advanced healing factor. It’s fine. See? I’m standing.”

“That is not standing,” Sam tells him.

“You’re bending the IV stand,” Nurse Eunjung adds pointedly. “Let go and sit down, they don’t grow on trees.”

“It could be a relationship, it could not be. You can assume either until you see for sure the results.“We all know those moments. Those moments when your family all gathers around you and asks "So, do you have a boyfriend yet?”. Bucky knows these moments all too well and, quite frankly, he’s sick to death of them. Unfortunately, being a 21 year old college student makes it harder for him to come up with excuses, and with Christmas coming up he needs to think of a way out fast. A chance encounter with a stranger through an old library textbook could just be the kind of miracle he needs to make it through the holidays with his last shreds of sanity intact.

to memory now I can’t recall by Etharei

While on a mission storming a HYDRA facility, James Buchanan Barnes touches one of the many strange alien devices collected by the Red Skull. He does this, in fact, twice— in the past, and in the future.

Next thing he knows, Bucky Barnes is opening his eyes in the 21st century, which is full of great gadgets and coffee, and at least includes his old pal Steve. (And, inexplicably, a different Stark.) Meanwhile, the Winter Soldier finds himself in the middle of World War Two, helping Captain America hunt down HYDRA (which is at least familiar), pretending to be Bucky Barnes (which is not), and figuring out the very noisy group of soldiers who call themselves the Howling Commandos.

War, Children by Nonymos

After Bucky was released from the hospital, it only took him a couple of weeks to give up on himself. Difficult to believe in any kind of future when the simple act of staying alive was almost too big an effort.

Out the frosted window, across the street, there was a tiny homeless guy burrowing under an awning.

“Nat?” you spoke softly as the two of you laid on your bed, staring up at the ceiling.

“Yeah?”

You turn your head to her. “Do you think it’s time I tell you know who that I like him?”

Natasha looks over at you and smiles. “I’d say yeah, you’ve been talking about him for years now Y/N. You’re madly in love with this dude which, by the way, I still do not know.”

You blush. You weren’t about to tell her that the man you’ve been crushing on is Bucky. No one knew how you felt about him and you’re surprised that Natasha didn’t already figure out who you always talked about.

“Well, if everything goes well I’ll tell you who he is.” you say.

“You better. It’s not nice keeping your best friend in the dark like this.” she jokes.

You laugh. “Oh hush.”

“I need to interview this guy. Make sure he’s good for you.”

“Soon my dear, soon.”

Your door suddenly opens, revealing the man you’re in love with.

“Hey Y/N, I just came by to ask if you wanted to go get a milkshake with me.” he smiled.

“I’ll get going. See ya later, snooka.” Nat says, kissing your cheek before leaving your room.

You look over at Bucky. He’s so beautiful.

“So, what do ya say?” he’s now leaning against the doorframe.

Steve would kill you if you drank a milkshake, especially since you’re training with him tomorrow. But Bucky throws on his best pouty face and you’re done for.

“Let’s go.”

You enter your room after a tiring training session with Steve only to find Wanda sitting on your bed with a smile on her face.

“What are you doing here?” you question.

“I’m here to train you.”

You scoff. “I don’t know if you knew this but I just got back from training with Steve so..”

Wanda playfully rolls her eyes. “Not that kind of training. I’m here to train you for when you tell that guy that you like him.”

You nod. Wasn’t Natasha supposed to help you with that?

“Nat said she had something to do and asked me to help you.” she adds as if she could read your mind.

“Okay.” you nod. “So what should I do first?”

“Well if I knew who he was..” she trailed off and you laugh.

“You’re not getting it out of me, Wanda.”

“Darn.” she frowns. “When am I going to meet the guy? He could be a murderer for all I know!”

You chuckle. “If he feels the same way about me, you’ll meet him soon.”
Although you’ve already met him.

“He’d be a fool to not like you back, Y/N. You’re a big ball of happiness mixed with cute things and sprinkles.” she tells you and you smile. “Okay so we have to work on what you’ll say to him. You don’t want to be stumbling over your words or stuttering. That’s really awkward.”

“This is going to be harder than I thought.” you sigh.

“Pretend I’m Jake.” she says and you give her a confused look.

“Who’s Jake?”

“The guy, duh.” she spoke. “You won’t tell me who he is so we gotta improvise.”

“Oh, right. Okay.” you clear your throat and close your eyes, Bucky’s face coming into your mind. You can see him smiling at you, waiting for you to speak. You open your eyes. “Hey.. Jake.” oh god saying Jake was so weird.

“Hey, Y/N. What’s up?” Wanda responds. Your throat began to feel dry. Why - how?

“I just wanted to stop by and tell you that I love yo- your sweater.” you sigh and squeeze your eyes shut.

“Wrong! Do it again. And be less.. Cringy.” Wanda says.

You glare at her. “Oh jeez, thanks for boosting my confidence.”

“I’m trying to help you get laid here.” she gives you a look.

“Actually-”

“Do it again.”

You take a deep breath and nod, speaking from your heart. “Jake.. We’ve known each other for quite some time now and every time we hang out it’s amazing. You’re amazing. You know how to make me laugh and our conversations are never boring. You’re a really interesting person Jake. What I’m trying to say is.. I like you. I have since the day I met you, and I want to know if you feel the same way.”

You exhale, not knowing you were holding your breath before and Wanda’s lips turn upwards into a smile. “You did it.”

“I did it.” you breathe out. Wanda chuckles and you break out into a grin. “Thank you so much Wanda.”

You pull her into a hug and she squeezes you. “Go tell him. You got this.”

You rush down the hall, nearly tackling Tony down in the process. Bucky’s door comes up into view and your heart starts beating quickly. You’re going to do it. You’re going to tell Bucky how you feel. Finally.

You stop in front of his door and take a deep breath before twisting the knob and pushing it open, not even bothering to knock. At the sight in front of you, your heart drops.

“Y/N?”

Bucky moves away from Natasha, both their hair a mess. Nat’s shirt was discarded, thrown across the room and Bucky was just in his boxers. His lips were red and swollen from kissing. You almost forgot how to breathe.

“Oh god..” Nat murmurs, throwing her head in her hands.

“Y/N, hey.” Bucky grabs your attention again, standing up from his bed. “Listen I-I.. No one knows about.. Nat and I.. Please don’t tell anyone.”

You look between Natasha and Bucky. How stupid could you be? To actually think that Bucky might like you back. Of course he doesn’t. Of course he likes Nat. Of course they have a thing going on. Why wouldn’t they?

You muster up a fake smile. “Your secret is safe with me.”

Bucky lets out a sigh of relief and pulls you into a hug. “Thank you so much Y/N.”

You keep your hands at your sides, not daring to wrap them around him. When he pulls away, you clear your throat. “I’ll uh.. Get going.”

Bucky nods. “Thank you.. Again.”

“No problem.” you back out of his room and he shuts the door, leaving you to stare at it.

If only you knocked.

(Y/N) walked down the stairs, the train of her dress flowing nicely behind her. She felt like she was in a movie. ‘I feel like a goddess right now,’ she thought. She smiled to herself imagining her date’s face as she came down. Her smile however dropped as soon as she saw that it wasn’t Nick. “Rogers, what the hell are you doing here?”

Steve turned and saw her at the bottom of the stairs, he swallowed the gasp that would have escaped out of his mouth because of her beauty. He put on the facial expression that he often wore around her -indifference and anger.

“Trust me, I don’t want to be here either but there was a change.”

“What kind of change?”

“Tony,” (Y/N) rolled her eyes, sighed and crossed her arms. “Look (Y/L/N), we need to do this, for him.”

“We’ve tried everything, Rogers. I mean there’s nothing on the guy.” The guy in question was Pepper’s new paramour. Of course nothing was happening between Pepper and the new guy but that didn’t stop Tony from wanting to rip him to shreds. Tony, being Tony of course wanted intense background research on the new guy, trying to find out his deepest, darkest secrets.

“I know, but he wants us to try one more time.” Steve walked towards her, standing in front of her but not close enough to touch her if he extended his arms.

“He’s pathetic.”

This time Steve rolled his eyes. “He’s your best friend.”

She shrugged, “Gives me more reason to call him pathetic.” (Y/N) started walking to the door, Steve couldn’t help but watch as her arse sway. “Coming Rogers? Or are you too busy staring?”

Steve shook himself out of it and followed her.

I have a question. How come in that scene where Steve was describing the Winter Soldier to Natasha he went with “he’s fast” and “he’s strong” before saying “he had a metal arm” because if it were me that would have been the first thing I’d mention. I mean, it’s kind of a pretty distinctive feature.

I have watched Winter Soldier three times this week, and I was watching this scene when the idea of this fic occured to me. Of course, maybe the idea behind it is wrong. It is based on my own theory.

You pulled up to Steve’s old military camp in silence. Nat was baffled, you knew, by the possibility that such an advanced program, which had bested even her, had originated from such an unlikely place. Steve was wading through his memories of the camp, of a time before Captain America. A time when life was simple.

You were worried. There had to be a reason you were led here, and it couldn’t be good. You were overcome by this feeling that as bad as things were now, they were going to get much worse. You stayed silent, choosing not to worry the others more than necessary, and followed closely behind Steve, hand hovering above your gun, anxiously waiting for someone to jump out at you.

Nat wandered for a bit, searching out any signals that would assist in finding the source of the data that had nearly cost Fury his life. She called out that there was absolutely nothing. No heat signatures, no waves. She began to theorise about what could have happened. You didn’t understand much of what she said.

But Steve seemed to have noticed something, and strode towards a cold, angular, concrete building.

“Steve?” You asked, still following behind him.

“Army regulations forbid storing ammunition within five hundred yards from the barracks,” Steve began. “This building is in the wrong place.” With absolutely no effort, he used the rim of his shield to smash the padlock off of the door, and the three of you ventured inside.

Your mouth dropped open. There was a SHIELD insignia upon the wall, and office furniture, long forgotten, littered the dusty room.

“This is SHIELD,” Nat uttered.

“Maybe where it started,” Steve replied.

Entering a smaller room to the side, your eyes were drawn to three photographs that hung in broken frames on the wall. Howard, Peggy and Colonel Phillips smiled down at you.

“There’s Stark’s father,” Nat pointed out.

“Howard,” you elaborated with a fond smile.

“Who’s the girl?” Nat asked. Your eyes moved from Peggy’s beautiful face to Steve. His jaw clenched slightly, and instead of replying, he turned to investigate the room.

“Agent Peggy Carter,” you said gently. Nat nodded her understanding, but before she could say anything else, you heard Steve’s voice.

“If you’re already working in a secret office…” he said, pushing aside a heavy looking bookshelf, “why do you need to hide the elevator?”

The two of you walked to where Steve was standing and studied the elevator. The doors were quite old, and there was a keypad next to them. Nat pulled her device out of her pocket again, and held it up the keypad. It determined the passcode, and she pressed the numbers in sequence. The doors slid open. You glanced nervously at Steve, took a deep breath, and stepped into the elevator. It didn’t lurch, or give any indication of collapsing, so you relaxed, and the others got on with you. There was only one button. You pressed it.

When the doors opened again, you were staring into a dark space. It was cold, and seemed to be quite large. Stepping out of the elevator, the lights turned on. There must have been some sort of movement sensor.

At the opposite end of the room sat several large computer monitors, and behind that, an endless sea of databanks. You looked to Natasha, and saw her shaking her head.

“This can’t be the data-point, this technology is ancient…” she confirmed your thoughts, but as she moved closer, she noticed a USB port. Even you could tell how out of place it seemed. She placed the USB into the port, and then there was a cacophany of whirring, as the databanks began to roll, and the old computer flashed to life.

The words Initiate System? blinked on the screen. You and Steve were both well and truly out of your depth, so you deferred to Nat. This was one of her specialties after all.

“Y-E-S, spells yes,” Nat smiled as she typed. You could tell despite everything, she was genuinely enjoying having a puzzle to solve. Her level of intelligence was unrivaled by most. “Shall we play a game?” Nat laughed as she waited for the computer to process her input. “It’s from a movie that…”

“Yeah, we saw it,” Steve remarked dryly.

Before that conversation could progress any further, a familiar voice rang out, reverberating around the cavernous room. You recognised it immediately. It was just one of the voices that haunted you in your nightmares.

Rogers, Steven. Born, 1918. Barnes, (Y/N). Formerly (Y/L/N), (Y/N). Born, 1918. Married, 1939. Romanoff, Natalia Alianovna. Born, 1984.

“It’s some kind of a recording,” Nat breathed, impressed by the technology, as a small camera focused on each of you, one at a time.

I am not a recording, Fräulein. I may not be the man I was when the Captain took me prisoner in 1945, but I am. The screen flashed an image, and your fear was confirmed. You were being addressed by Dr. Arnim Zola. The man who stole your husband from you. Your fists balled at your sides.

“Do you know this thing?” Nat asked, looking between the two of you. This time it was your turn to offer no answer, as you continued to stare at the face on the screen, now not a photograph but a digital face. The camera seemed to pause on you and observe you longer than the others. You hated that you couldn’t feel him. He was there, but he was just a machine. He had no emotions.

“Arnim Zola was a German scientist who worked for the Red Skull. He’s been dead for years,” Steve explained for Nat’s sake. He was confused, but you barely noticed.

First correction, I am Swiss. Second, look around you. I have never been more alive. In 1972 I received a terminal diagnosis. Science could not save my body, my mind, however, that was worth saving on two hundred thousand feet of data banks. You are standing in my brain.

“How did you get here?” Steve asked angrily.

Invited.

You began to feel sick.

“It was Operation Paperclip after World War II,” Nat elaborated. “SHIELD recruited German scientists with strategic values.”

Sick.

Zola continued. They thought I could help their cause. I also helped my own.

The camera observed as you swayed, light headed.

“HYDRA died with the Red Skull,” Steve spoke with conviction.

Cut off one head, two more shall take its place.

“Prove it.”

Accessing archive.

A flurry of images appeared on the screen. Zola told his story. But you couldn’t concentrate. It felt like you were underwater. Everything was fuzzy, voices were far away, and you couldn’t breathe.

Zola was the only member of Hydra that had been captured by the American military that didn’t immediately pop a cyanide capsule. He had entered custody without a fuss, and from what you had been told, he was mostly cooperative.

The intel about him being on the train had been so easy for you to procure. The train route so readily available. Steve had told you that there were Hydra agents on board that attacked Bucky and himself, but less than he thought there would have been.

Zola wanted to get captured. He wanted to be taken into custody, and prove his worth. He wanted SHIELD to need him. To rely on him. A parasite from within could do much more damage than someone on the outside ever could. He made sure Hydra would survive, undetectable until it was too late.

Bucky had died. He died trying to protect America. The world. He died. For this?

He died.

Once the purification process is complete, HYDRA’s new world order will arise. We won, Captain, Barnes. Your deaths amount to the same as your lives; a zero sum.

You walked up to the monitor that was displaying Zola’s face, and before anyone could reach out to stop you, you punched it with all your might. You showed no indication that your bleeding knuckles caused you any pain.

“(Y/N),” Steve said softly, walking up behind you.

As I was saying… Zola interrupted, face popping up on one of the smaller screens. What’s on this drive? Project Insight requires insight. So I wrote an algorithm.

“What kind of algorithm? What does it do?” Nat asked, watching Steve pull you away from the monitor gingerly. She was enjoying the puzzle a lot less now.

The answer to your question is fascinating. Unfortunately, you shall be too dead to hear it.

The doors that you had entered the room from, the only doors that you were aware of, began to close. Steve turned from you, and threw his shield at them in order to avoid being trapped, but it was too late.

“Steve, we’ve got a bogey. ETA 30 seconds,” Nat said with carefully constructed calm.

“Who sent it?” Steve asked.

“SHIELD…”

Admit it, it’s better this way. We’re all three of us…out of time.

Steve looked around desperately, and found a grate in the floor. He let go of your hand, and pried the cover off. Nat jumped in. You were torn between finding protection and just accepting what was coming, when Steve pulled you in with him, covering the three of you with his shield.

There was a loud explosion, and the building began to collapse. You were buffeted by concrete and debri, and the resulting fire made it difficult to breath. In order to protect you and Nat, Steve was slightly exposed. You hoped desperately that his Super Soldier Serum would help him. You closed your eyes.

When you next opened them, you were in a car. You were dazed, but you knew that it wasn’t the one that you had driven to New Jersey in. Something was wrapped around your hand tightly, and your ribs ached. Your ears were ringing, but soon you were able to make out two voices. Steve and Nat. They were alive.

“We should go to Stark. He’s closer,” Steve argued.

“We can’t Steve, you know that,” Nat countered. “They’ll expect that. Hell, they might’ve already visited him looking for us. I don’t know if we have anywhere we can go!”

“Sam Wilson…” you piped up. Your throat was dry and sore. Smoke inhalation.

“(Y/N), thank God,” Steve sighed in relief. You felt him calm ever so slightly in knowing that you were awake. You felt the same from Nat.

“Sam Wilson?” She asked.

“We were talking to him a while ago, when you picked us up for the Lumerian Star mission,” you continued, sitting up and clicking your seat belt on. You winced when the belt brushed across your ribs.

“How will we find him?” Nat pondered.

“The old fashioned way,” Steve replied.

A long drive, and a flick through the Washington phone book later, you found him. Steve parked the car a block away, so it wouldn’t cause any problems, and you all walked, injured and exhausted, the rest of the way.

Just as you had hoped, he had taken you into his home without hesitation. “Not everyone,” he had said when Nat told him everyone you knew was trying to kill you.

Nat showered first, while you waited with Steve.

“(Y/N),” he hesitantly began. “What happened back there?”

You thought for a moment, before deciding against telling him about your realisation.

“I didn’t like what he was saying,” you lied. It would be better if he didn’t know. He already had too much to carry on his shoulders. He didn’t need to know.

“Are you sure that’s it? You don’t normally react that way… unless something really upsets you.”

“I’m sorry I lost control…”

“Don’t apologise. I was about two seconds away from doing the same. But brash reactions are not something you’re generally known for… you hurt your hand.”

“It’s fine Steve. I’ll clean it thoroughly in the shower, and bandage it afterwards. It’ll be fine.”

Nat walked back into the room from the bathroom, and sat on the bed next to you, drying her hair.

“You go (Y/N). I’ll go after you,” Steve offered.

“Are you sure?”

He nodded, and you accepted his offer gratefully. You needed to be alone for a little while, to process everything that you had learned that day.

You cried in the shower. When you got out, you dried off, and wrapped your hand. The gash on your ribs would need attention too, but it was too difficult for you to manage alone.

You forced yourself to focus on something, anything, else. Luckily the awkward energy that you had felt surrounding Steve and Nat would provide a nice distraction for you. You had to force yourself to be OK, for Steve.

You took a deep breath, braced yourself, and rejoined Steve and Nat. Steve went to take his shower, and Nat went to find a drink in Sam’s kitchen. Alone again, you concentrated on Steve. And waited for him to come back into the room.

Can I request anything showing a tony/natasha friendship? I love the way you write natasha :) Maybe they have the classic sibling relationship where they constantly rag on each other but as soon as someone else tries they shut them down flat? Or whatever really, I'm not picky. Thanks!!

Bahaha the other Avengers are just along for the ride. You are definitely right! Like brother and sister, Tony and Natasha can treat each other like shit, but if someone else treats them like shit, they better get ready to catch hands. (It appears I write this relationship better when there is actually another ship I am supposed to be writing smh.) Watch out for under the cut!

“DID YOU USE THE LAST OF MY COCONUT HAIR MASK?!”

Steve jumped, clutching his chest. Natasha, who had been playing chess with him, froze like a deer in the headlights.

Tony came to a stop in the doorway, looking livid. He had a plastic bottle clutched in one hand. “Did you?!”

“…Nnno,” Natasha answered slowly.

The brunet let out a screech and lunged for her. “THAT WAS EXPENSIVE AND A TREAT!”

Natasha screamed and dove out of her seat. Tony was only a second behind her, flinging the empty bottle at her head. It connected with an empty thunk and bounced off relatively harmlessly.

The way Tony continued to chase her around the room, fists clenched like he was ready to beat the shit out of her, was not quite so harmless.

“We’re all needed for this mission,” Steve states from the front of the conference room. His lips are set in a straight line and there are no hints of the smile he was wearing only half an hour earlier when the two of you were eating lunch together. It goes to show that something as seemingly insignificant as a ten-minute phone call can change everything.

“What is it this time?”

“Infiltration.” Steve hesitates before adding, “Of a HYDRA base.”

Bucky who, for the first time ever, voluntarily chose to sit next to you for this meeting, clenches his fists under the table.

“Even me?” Bruce questions, stealing your attention away from HYDRA’s former golden boy. He’s fiddling with the sleeves of his sweater and you wish you could offer him some kind of comfort. You know how opposed he is to becoming the big, green monster unless it’s absolutely necessary.

“We’re only going to need your medical expertise for this one Doc.”

“Oh thank god.” Bruce sinks back in his seat and relief floods through you. At least someone is guaranteed to come out of this mission unscathed.

OMG I just had the cuuuuuutest headcanon: So we all know Tony knew Peggy as his Aunt Peggy but what if he grew up knowing the Howling Commandos as his uncles? I can just imagine little Tony being told stories of the war by his Uncle Dum Dum and then growing up a bit and going to college and building a robot and naming it after his favorite Uncle... I mean we've already seen his affinity for naming his mechanical babies after important people in his life *coughJarviscough*

Imagine Steve when Tony told him.

Idk maybe they were just chilling in his workshop while Tony was doing a little bit of maintenance work on Dum-E, and then Steve just asks him out of the blue, “JARVIS was a person, before he was an AI, right?”

And Tony freezes for a moment, before looking up at the ceiling and nodding his head a little. “Yeah. One of the best men I grew up with, honestly. Seemed only fair he got to… I don’t know, be remembered? And he always used to look out for me when I was a kid, so - carrying on tradition? I guess?”

“What about the others?”

Tony stopped, raising his eyebrows in silent question. Steve just gestured at Dum-E and sat back, waiting for the story.

“I… well this one,” Tony patted Dum-E fondly on the head, “he was kind of based loosely off an uncle of mine? Not by blood,” he added, when Steve’s eyebrows raised in surprise, “just… a good guy. He’d swing by with Pegs sometimes, tell me cool war-stories. And Howard was never an ass when he was around, ‘cause Uncle Dummy would just clock him on the nose.”

Steve smiled in amusement. “Uncle Dummy?  What a respectful name,”

Tony shrugged. “Pegs always called him Dougan, but it was too long for three-year old me. So he told me to call him Dum-Dum. He was… he was always fun like that-”

“Whoah whoa. Wait. Hold up,” Steve had stood up and crossed the room before the was even aware of what he was doing, taking Tony’s shoulder and clutching tightly. “You… you knew Dougan?”

Tony stared in shock for a moment. “You knew Dougan? But- but he never mentioned you! I talked about you all the time and he never…” Tony trailed off, getting sad for a moment as he thought back. “Oh. He… he always got sad when I spoke about you. After a while I just stopped asking. Was- was he a Howling Commando?” Tony asked quietly, but Steve couldn’t miss the childish little spark of excitement in his eyes.

Steve smiled fondly, and looked down to Dum-E sat patiently, as if he were listening to the entire conversation. Steve could almost see the shared traits, now he was looking. The clumsiness. The general loudness. The mood-swings.

“Yeah,” Steve replied softly. “He was… he was one of my best friends. We pretty much all lived in each other’s pockets back then, so it was hard not to be.”

Tony looked at him, and then placed a gentle hand over Steve’s. “Want me to tell you about him? What he was like after, I mean. With me. Because he was great, honestly, I adored him-”

“Yeah,” Steve answered, smiling weakly. “That’d be… nice.”

And so they just talk. For hours. And it’s the first time Steve ever sees Tony’s face light up when he talks about his childhood.

He leaves, six hours later, with a feeling that isn’t pain from talking about the people from his past. Just happiness.

Dum-Dum had looked out for Tony. He’d been doing Steve’s job before Steve had even known about Tony Stark.

And not that Steve likes picking favourites, but… it’s Dum-E

For Bucky *** Part One

Pairings: Bucky x Reader

A/N: This is something that I wanted to do because of a friend who had recently lost a family member at a young age. If you are not comfortable with reading something of a sensitive and extremely touch feel, please do not read!! Let me know if you would like to be tagged.

You were only ten years old when you were diagnosed with your condition. You remember being at school, playing tag with your friends when without a warning, you collapsed to the ground. You remember the sight of your friends running to you, shouting Your name or the name of your teacher as you lay on the gravel. You were shivering, your blood running cold as you struggled to keep your eyes open.

Yep, another fic using the Backstreet Boys as inspiration… [x] It has some flashbacks that will be italicized and indented. This hurt to write just because I hate mixing Tony with angst (he deserves to be happy!) but this song just seemed to scream his name. Sorry for all the Tony feels! I will understand if you need a hug after this…

Tony poured another shot of vodka in his glass. It was yet another sleepless night. He glanced at his phone when it lit up, thinking it was a response from you but it wasn’t. Just another notification from his lab computer, updating him on his project progress. He noticed the time as the phone dimmed to black; 3:15 am.

These last six months have thrown Tony into a mess of restlessness, nightmares and non-stop work. He still couldn’t believe that after five months of dating, you just… left. It wasn’t like you didn’t love Tony, you certainly did, but you felt as though you could never love him the way he loved you and he deserved someone better.

The Charmer

This is the beginning of a series requested by @hinaasyed on Sleepover Saturday. This will be an ongoing series so if you want me to tag you in the proceeding parts just tell me.

“If you go in now, you’ll scare her off,” Steve spoke into COMMS.

“Yeah well if we keep waiting she’ll get away,” Natasha spoke back. They were watching a waitress in a nearby restaurant. She was a suspected superhuman, and therefore she was on the Avengers’ radar. She smiled as she set a plate in front of her customers, two undercover Avengers Wanda and Sam.

“I need orders,” Sam spoke on the communications lines.

“Bring her in,” Steve ordered. He and Natasha went to the two exits in the restaurant, preventing her from running away. As the woman set a plate in front of Wanda, Sam set papers on the table. At the sound of the paper hitting the table, she looked over at it. The moment she did her stomach dropped. Her own name was written on the papers, as well as her affiliation with a company she had just barely made it out of alive. She looked up to Sam, unsure of what to do.

“Don’t worry I’m not affiliated with them. But you do have to come with us.”

She looked around and noticed Natasha standing by the front entrance, “Who are you with?”

“The Avengers. We could use someone with your skill.”

She looked over at Wanda, and sighed, she couldn’t take them all. She didn’t have a choice, “I don’t really have a choice, huh?” she murmured looking down, “Do I go right now?”

“It would be for the best.”

She nodded and they stood up, flanking her and leading her out of the restaurant without anyone being the wiser. She considered running, as they got outside, she thought better of it as Natasha turned around. She remembered seeing Natasha on the news some time ago, when SHIELD disbanded. At the very least she could take solace in knowing that she was going with the Avengers and this wasn’t a trap, especially once Steve joined them. As far as this situation goes it could be worse.

Imagine Steve plucking up the courage to propose to you

“Buck, I don’t think I can do this. I’m so nervous,” Steve sighed, the nausea setting through as he reached Y/N’s front door.

Bucky took hold of his best friends shoulder, giving it a comforting squeeze. “Hey, you’ve got this, alright? Stop being such a punk about it. You love her, she loves you.”

Steve nodded before looking up at Bucky, a warm smile on his face. “If she says yes, would you be my best man?”

“What kind of question is that? I’m the only option, buddy. Now get in there and make her your fiance before I kick your ass.”
