Joran van der Sloot is an inmate currently imprisoned at Piedras Gordas prison in Peru. Here he is serving a 28 year sentence for the brutal murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez, who he had bludgeoned to death in a hotel room on 30 May, 2010.
Exactly five years previous to Stephany’s murder, Natalee Holloway disappeared whilst on a trip with her high school to Aruba. Van der Sloot was the prime suspect in Natalee’s disappearance and is widely believed to be responsible for her disappearance.
In 2008, an undercover video was released on Dutch television. In the video Van der Sloot confessed that he had been present at the time of Natalee’s death and that he had called a friend to dump her body in the sea. Van der Sloot chillingly remarked, “she’ll never be found.”
In 2010, Van der Sloot made an offer to John Kelly, Natalee’s mother’s legal representative. For $250,000 Van der Sloot would reveal the location of Natalee’s body. Kelly met with Van der Sloot in Aruba, only to be lied to and given a false location.
In 2012, Natalee Holloway was pronounced legally dead and to this day no solid evidence has ever been discovered in order to charge Van der Sloot with Natalee’s presumed murder.

Natalee Holloway was enjoying a high school graduation trip to Aruba when she mysteriously disappeared on the 30th of May 2005.  Holloway was last seen after a night out at a bar, getting into a car with Aruban locals Joran Van Der Sloot and brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, who claimed that they dropped Holloway of at her hotel later that night. Each male, aged 17,21 and 18 respectively, was arrested multiple times in connection with Hollway’s disappearance, but all were released due to lack of evidence, and the case was closed with no charges in 2007.  However, the case was reopened a year later, after video footage of Van Der Sloot emerged confessing that Holloway had died on the 30th of May, and a friend had disposed of her body.  Van Der Sloot also claimed later that he had sold Holloway into slavery, but retracted both confessions and again faced no convictions related to her disappearance.

Despite extensive searches both on land and sea, Holloway’s body has never been recovered, and she was declared legally dead in 2012.  Van Der Sloot was charged with the murder of Peruvian business student Stephanie Flores Ramirez in 2010, and is currently serving a 28 year prison sentence.
