my mom worked for the north face in the 1970s and would apparently talk to campmor all the time for business purposes. the woman there supposedly had the best new jersey accent just dripping with nicotine and called my mother “hon” all the time. it’s the only thing i know about campmor.

What a great story though :D I get the feeling that in the 70s up through about the mid-80s, backpacking and the more hardcore forms of camping were a pretty small community, so a lot of people knew each other.

steepandcheap.com pulls from the backcountry.com inventory and has crazy discounts. i’ve gotten $130 merino shirts for $45 before.

Oooh nice, thanks for the tip! I do need some hiking clothes (all of my outerwear is running oriented) so I’ll check it out!

Lordy knows I loves me some outdoorsy crap, but I can’t quite get behind the whole down miniskirt thing. A puffy for your hips? No, thank you.

Now, if it were longer, and I still lived in NH where your tears of SAD-induced sorrow freeze the second you step out the door - now we’d be talking.
