NIKOLA TESLA: THE FIRST JEDI

Method of Lighting Wireless Vacuum Tubes Devoid of Any Electrodes Placed In An Alternating Electrostatic Field.

In 1891, just before becoming an American citizen, Nikola Tesla was asked to lecture before the American Institute of Electrical Engineers at the Columbia University in New York. He performed experiments with alternating currents of very high frequency and left an audience of America’s greatest engineers spell-bound as he demonstrated a new theory of light. This lecture would be the first public demonstration of transmitting wireless energy, making Tesla the true father of radio and wireless power.

Throughout his investigations of alternating currents of very high frequency phenomena, Tesla satisfied himself with the conclusion that light bulbs using carbon filaments were inferior, and that an electric field of sufficient intensity could be made to fill a room and light electrodeless vacuum tubes. This was done by connecting two large sheets of zinc to the terminal of the circuit with the sheets being spread apart about fifteen feet away from each other (as shown above). The sheets served as condensers, and both received the charge of electricity from the wires connecting the sheets to the transformer, creating an electric field between the two. Tesla would then introduce vacuum tubes and place them between the zinc sheets–illuminating the tubes and lighting the room. He waved the vacuum tubes around like a Jedi showcasing the first light sabers, and the tubes continued to glow as long as they remained in the electric field.

He accomplished this by upping the speed of his dynamo, transforming his alternating currents into a continuous flow of static currents. This allowed him to pass a large amount of energy from sheet to sheet, or even through his body, without any harm. To help better explain this, direct currents carry an electric charge along a conductor which travel in one single direction, like a straight line, while the charge in AC alternate back and forth in waveform. Static currents, on the other hand, are stationary with no movement. Tesla would speed up his AC so fast that they would transform into a static current, allowing him to create a static field of electricity capable of lighting his wireless bulbs.

The electrical wizard went on to show the absolute harmlessness of his electric system by passing thousands of volts of electricity through his body–lighting light bulbs and shooting sparks out of his finger tips.

These amazing demonstrations would set Tesla apart from the rest of the scientific world, and the inventor would be showered with awards and invitations from all around the world begging him to share his work.

memories 01. i don’t know if this is reality or a dream.

he grips the railing, metal kissing his bruises bittersweet. he stops.

breathe.

he looks off, sharp eyes gauging  hesitance in jin’s soft muted gaze, the warmth of his brown eyes soon replaced by film and hard glass, and it sets him back on course.

breathe.

taehyung closes his eyes and leans forward, the adrenaline in his chest relieved by the sudden weightlessness caught between his heels. he inhales the pinks and oranges of the sky, the waning sun caught between his lips, and for very first time, he soars. he soars far above the ground, above the grass, above jin, and far beyond the dredges of reality he’d been grounded to for so long (and for much too long). and he keeps soaring, suspended in the silence of his chaotic headspace, soaring even farther, even as gravity tugs down his sleeves and begs at his feet.

jin watches, head booming with applause and excitement. the voices holler and cheer, ghosting whispers in his ears, knowing too well of their fixation towards the descending figure before him, as they clap-!  whoop-!  scream–!

but taehyung hears nothing. he doesn’t hear the chorus of gasps when he falls, he doesn’t hear the hurrahs, the satisfaction of having a full audience. he can only sense. sense a blank stare watching him through false mirrors and still windows. sense the impending fruit of his fall. he can sense gravity dragging plastic and glass from shaking hands to shatter on concrete as it drags him whole into the mouth of the tide, pulling jin and his illusions to drown with him.

to taehyung, the world is quiet.

let’s be

How to be an Effective Tutor // by starPLATINUM

Hey guys, Star here. I’m a new studyblr, so you guys probably don’t know but I’ve been a math and physics tutor for two years now (ever since I started college!) and an engineering Statics tutor for one year. I’ve been told by a bunch of our freshmen that I’ve somewhat of a fan favorite, because I have a bunch of experience with the subjects I tutor and with tutoring in general.

Some of you bright students may be offered tutoring jobs at your schools/universities, so I thought I should offer some tips on how to tutor effectively. Alternatively, these tips apply to study groups, as well, if you have to catch any of your friends up with the material!

Statics reviewing for Exam 2 has begun. I need to work on my lettering.

I’m using just regular printer paper with Staedtler Triplus Fineliners, and when I finish my summary, I put them in clear sleeves in my Statics binder.

Spring Break is throwing off my study groove. I came home to visit Mom, and now I don’t have a desk to do my notes at, so I’m on the floor of my old bedroom.

Classes I'm taking this semester 🌻

•Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics I
•Mathematical Methods in Chemical Engineering
•Vector Mechanics:Statics
•Intro to Materials Engineering
•Intro to Industrial Engineering
•Communications
•Physics Lab

Nobody asked for this, just wanted to share it on here so y'all can have an idea on what type of notes I’ll be posting.

Claimed my favorite table in the library. It overlooks the lawn on campus with wide windows and a lot of light. There’s a guy asleep on the couch nearby.

Time to finish these flashcards then review my notes and ace this Statics exam.

Supplies of the day: Staedtler Triplus Fineliners, freshly painted bullet journal, BIC Brite Liner highlighters, erasable gel pens, and flashcards.

Alphas And Omegas Part One

A/N: Ok, so this is my first time posting a story on Tumblr, and if you could all go easy on me that’d be great. But anyways I hope you all enjoy the story.

Parings: (Eventual) Alpha Dean X Female Omega Reader

Word count: 1085

Warnings: none or at least I don’t think there are any warnings anyways.

Summary: (Y/N) is forced to move to Lawrence Kansas by her parents thanks to her dad getting a new job.

A long and frustrated sigh escaped a (y/a) year old girl with (h/l) (h/c) hair and bright (e/c) eyes as she continued to stare silently out the car window despite her parents attempt to get her to talk. She watched the Kansas landscape fly by hoping that her parents would give up on trying to make her start talking.

“(Y/N), honey, we know you’re not happy about this move, but please just try to like it, please? Lawrence isn’t really that bad of a town, sweetheart.” (Y/N) simply rolled her eyes, and crossed her arms over her chest before looking away from the window in order to meet her mother’s gaze in the rearview mirror.

"I highly doubt that mom. I don’t know anyone there, and in case you guys forgot I’m an omega werewolf.” She grumbled out the last sentence.

"Don’t take that tone with your mother (Y/N).” Her father reprimanded her, and he met her gaze with a harsh one of his own through the rearview mirror.

"Sorry dad. It’s just that it’s hard enough being a new kid but being an omega at the same time isn’t exactly easy on me, you know?” She looked down at her lap before looking up at the rearview mirror to see her mother’s caring look.

"I know sweetheart, but there are some things about Lawrence that you don’t know about.” (Y/N) could tell that her mother was trying hard to get her to agree with their point of view.

“Like what?” There was a small hopeful part of (Y/N) that hoped that this would all work out and her parents would suddenly say that this move was only going to last a couple of months, and then they could move back home. But if the moving truck and movers following behind them meant anything then that wasn’t really going to happen.

“Like the fact that me and your father grew up in Lawrence and…” Her mother paused and that gave enough time to scoff and open her mouth to speak before her mother spoke up again. “Lawrence is also an all werewolf town, so you don’t have to worry about anyone finding out that you’re a werewolf. You’re free to be yourself there.” This fact in itself seemed to cheer (Y/N) up if not only a little.

“Seriously?” She sat up a little straighter, and looked at her mother through the rearview mirror again. Her mother was nodding her with a small smile on her face as she watched the happy gleam in her daughter’s eyes.

"Yes, seriously.” Her father answered, and the small excited smile on her face suddenly fell as one very important fact came springing up into her head.

“It doesn’t matter though. I’m still an omega, and people will still know that’s what I am.” She grumbled again before returning to look out her window as her parents sighed in slight frustration.

“Just give it a chance, please (Y/N)?” Her mother pleaded again, but she didn’t look away from her window.

“How much longer until we get there?” She avoided the question, and her parents sighed again.

“About an hour or so.” Her father answered and she nodded her head before she settled back down into her seat and leaned her head against the window. It wasn’t long before the soft vibrations of the car, and the dull static of the car engine lulled her into a light sleep.

(Y/N) was awoken an hour later by her mother tapping her on the shoulder. Prying her eyelids open she looked at her mother who had a small smile on her face.

“We’re here honey. Why don’t you grab your bag and go check out the house. Pick a room? How does that sound?” Her mom asked, and she simply nodded her head. She sat up in her seat and rubbed the sleep away from her eyes before she grabbed her bag from the seat next to her. (Y/N) got out of the car, and looked up at the light blue two story house. She paused for a moment before she closed her door and followed the two movers into the house.

She stooped in the entryway, her (e/c) eyes scanning the large space in front of her. Off to her left was the kitchen that had a lonely island, a bar with large french doors that lead out to a back porch. To her right was the living room that had two windows on the north wall, and simply held the plain grey couch. Stepping into the house she moved out of the way of the movers as they walked by, their noses scenting the air as they passed. (Y/N) scowled at the backs of the movers before she crossed the large empty space, and up the stairs to the second floor.

The second floor was equally as bare as the first floor, but the very first thing at the top of the stairs was a medium sized bathroom (she determined after a quick scan). She walked further down the hallway to find that the second door on the second floor was a hall closet. The third door on the right lead to the guest bedroom had two windows that faced the neighbors house, and there was a short hallway that lead to the master bedroom. The last and final door lead to the room that she had claimed as her own. There was a nice large window seat that looked out across the road, and at the people across the streets house. There were windows that faced the neighbors to the left of their house. Nodding her head she dropped her bag down on the window seat, and then headed back down stairs to help with moving.

(Y/N) got as far as the front door when she froze the scent of an unfamiliar alpha assaulting her senses. Muscles tensing and the hair on the back of her neck rising she looked around her eyes darting from one spot to another searching for where the smell was coming from. Her eyes landed on the family that was crossing the street and froze on the easily oldest son out of the four. The boy couldn’t have been more than a year older than her, and he was glaring directly at her his body just as stiff as hers.

[ovw] on your mark (1/??)

Pairing: mcgenji, sort of..
Note: AU where everything’s the same except McCree is a Deadlock mechanic and Genji is a literal motorcycle. So maybe a lot of things are not the same.  Please blame @fishuus for this.  She tempted me with McCree in fitted racing leathers and who am I… to say…. no.

Also I’m casually writing this as a mental exercise. Expect sporadic updates of varying length. It does have a plot though, which I hope to get to if I survive. But who knows!! Thank you for putting up with me and my fake Transformers AU (i know nothing about transformers, im sorry).
