Star Destroyer history

Image 1 and 2: Venator-Class Star Destroyers, used by the Republic during the Clone Wars, during which time they were often called “Jedi Cruisers.” In the early years of the Galactic Empire, Venator-Class Star Destroyers were repainted to be entirely gray in color. “Revenge of the Sith”

Image 3 and 4: Imperial I and Imperial II-Class Star Destroyers, the primary battleships and show of military might of the Galactic Empire. The Imperial I’s were lighter in color and had taller towers between their bridge tower globes. “Rogue One,” “A New Hope,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” “Return of the Jedi.”

Image 5: Super Star Destroyers were enormous vessels used by the Galactic Empire. Vader’s flagship, the Executor, was destroyed at the Battle of Endor, while the final remaining Super Star Destroyer, the Ravager, was lost at the Battle of Jakku. It was this ship’s interior and exterior seen in Rey and Finn’s Millennium Falcon escape. “The Empire Strikes Back,” “Return of the Jedi,” “The Force Awakens.”

Image 6: The Resurgent-Class Battlecruiser, referred to casually as a Star Destroyer by fans due to initial marketing materials and its resemblance to the previous Imperial vessels, was the primary vehicle of military might displaying the strength of the First Order. “The Force Awakens”
