Today is a very sad day for baseball, and especially for Cardinal Nation. Today we lost the most beloved member of the Cardinal family and one of the greats of baseball. He truly was the man on and off the field. He will always be an inspiration to us all. Rest in paradise, Stan “The Man” Musial.
On this day in Baseball History September 2, 1962: Stan “The Man” Musial pinch hits for pitcher Bobby Shantz in the 9th inning against the Mets and singles off of starter Al Jackson at Sportsman’s Park aka Busch Stadium I. Musial’s single was his 3,516th hit which placed him above Tris Speaker on the All-Time Hits list.
