Re-reading The Sun Trail, it’s hard to believe how much Gray Wing and Clear Sky changed over the course of the series. Both were originally very confident and comfortable in their territory. Then Gray Wing grew very anxious and Clear Sky became extremely paranoid in the new territories.
Honestly, after The Last Hope was released, I thought I’d stop reading this series. I thought I had outgrown it. I didn’t even know there was going to be a fifth arc, and if I had known, I probably wouldn’t have cared. I firmly believed the series had been going downhill, with Sunset being the last book I had truly enjoyed. Then one day I was browsing the local book store and saw The Sun Trail. I bought it on a whim, but not having high expectations for it. I was wrong. Now that I’ve read the first three DOTC books, I can say I’m hooked. I love them so much. There’s so much tension and finally I can see a villain as he changes over time. This arc is amazing.
Except for Clear Sky. He’s a jerk.
And Jagged Peak should be protected at all costs. ‘Nuff said.
