Day 286: DC Weekend

So far, my time in D.C. has been terrific! Last night, Mallory and our awesome friend Kristen LoBiondo went for dinner and drinks at a place called St. Arnold’s in Cleveland Park, which is kinda walking distance from Mallory’s super-cute apartment in Woodley Park.

It was SO DELICIOUS. A giant bowl of mussels in the most delicious broth and fries and little slices of baguette and beer? My dream. And when I say huge beers …

Yeah. HUGE.

This morning we woke up and ran a quick errand and then went to brunch at a little restaurant called Pulpo, which serves brunch during the day on weekends but is normally a tapas restaurant. It was pretty good. The food was pretty but it tasted OK.

Tonight is the big night: Ben’s Chili at the White House. Mallory showed me on a map the distance between the restaurant and where the Obamas live, and it is NOT walking distance, so we’ll be taking a cab (or doing Uber, which is THE COOLEST THING) in order to get our yummy chili to the White House.

I’m so excited!!

Tomorrow, I’ll post The Picture. For now, I’m going to take a little nap and enjoy this dreary D.C. afternoon – perfect napping weather. And if you want to follow my misadventures in real time this weekend, follow me on Twitter, where I’m using the hashtag #livetweetingDC.

Later!

Blessed feast of St Arnulf of Metz, patron saint of beer brewers!

From man’s sweat and God’s love, beer came into the world.” —St Arnulf

The Blessing of Beer from the Rituale Romanum:
Benedic, Domine, creaturam istam cerevisiae, quam ex adipe frumenti producere dignatus es: ut sit remedium salutare humano generi, et praesta per invocationem nominis tui sancti; ut, quicumque ex ea biberint, sanitatem corpus et animae tutelam percipiant. Per Christum Dominum nostrum.

Bless, O Lord, this creature beer, which Thou hast deigned to produce from the fat of grain: that it may be a salutary remedy to the human race, and grant through the invocation of Thy Holy Name; that, whoever shall drink it, may gain health in body and peace in soul. Through Christ our Lord.
