Live-in supervisor for the male dormitory of St. Lobaf. Breaks up altercations and gives STRONG assistance as needed. Has been voted ‘silkiest hair of the entire staff’ every year since he joined the faculty. Trained nurse with 5 years paramedic experience before that. Police academy drop-out.

A little bit on the off-putting side in terms of personality. Virtually no sense of humor, and a strictly by-the-book enforcer of clinic procedure.

The mere thought of his powerful and slightly damp embrace is often enough to calm the most volatile temper tantrum.

will jane and jake be included in this as well?

[very likely you’ll see all of the major players in here, though i am holding off on using any of the new Kids until we know what they’re like.

st. lobaf has a lot of staff roles currently being filled by Random OCs, and since I don’t do OCs as a matter of conscience (with the exception of the smiling plush antichrist and New Guy-type uniform stuffers) the more canon characters I can use, the merrier.

For instance, PM rules the nurse’s station with an iron fist. Never try to fuck with her.]

Karkat, how many failed escape attempts have you made so far? (I wish you best of luck in your next attempt!)

I LIKE TO THINK MY ENTIRE DAY IN THIS SHITHOLE IS ONE LONG ESCAPE ATTEMPT, BUT DOCTOR TONGUE SAYS I’M BEING MELODRAMATIC.

I’VE WALKED OFF THE GROUNDS THREE TIMES SO FAR. MY HOODIE STILL SMELLS LIKE MOOSE SWEAT FROM WHEN I GOT NABBED LAST WEEK, SO I’VE DECIDED TO WEAR ONE OF JOHN’S SHIRTS NEXT TIME JUST IN CASE.

YOU LIKE THINGS TO STINK, DON’T YOU, EGBERT? HAVE I GOT A DEAL FOR YOU.

anonymous asked:

Hi Karkat! What's your opinion on inspirational posters?

THEY’D MAKE GREAT DART BOARDS IF THE FUCKERS WOULD LET US HAVE SHARP OBJECTS.

THERE’S THIS ONE IN THE CAFETERIA WITH A HERON TRYING TO EAT A FROG WHILE THE FROG STRANGLES THE HERON WITH ITS FREE FLIPPER-PAW-WHATTHEFUCKEVER-FROGS-HAVE-FOR-HANDS. I CAN’T TELL IF IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE MOTIVATIONAL OR A COMMENTARY ON THE FOOD THEY SERVE IN THIS SO VERY NOT FUNNY FARM.

THE ONES WITH CATS ARE AT LEAST CUTE. WHY CAN’T WE HAVE SOME OF THOSE, ASSHOLES?

anonymous asked:

Do residential facilities really use literal points for good behavior with teenagers? I'm having trouble imagining that most would find it anything but patronizing.

[this sort of system is called a token economy, and it has been used to manipulate people in the past. in modern facilities you have the right to opt in or out of the system. there’s a wikipedia entry that explains the whole thing here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Token_economy

the main goal of the Lobaf point system is to encourage and reward a resident’s progress toward meeting their goal, and give people something to strive for.

if someone like karkat (who opted the fuck out the second it was explained to him, and with some seriously creative language) wanted to do an activity that required a bit of trust, he’d talk to his team and they’d come up with something.

it comes to the same in the end: if you’re doing well, you get to take on more challenging tasks. done correctly, it gives a sense of accomplishment that can be measured and celebrated.]

anonymous asked:

Who's been at LOBAF the longest? How long? And who's the newest? Or maybe someone can just tell me the general order of arrivals. >_>

[sollux has been here the longest in terms of when he first arrived, but he comes and goes so he’s sort of the new guy too. i will write up a timeline when we get more folks introduced than just the first 4 guy residents, to clear it all up.]

anonymous asked:

Another comment for the token economy anon, operant conditioning/learning is still a very commonly used thing with young adults! As a sec. ed. major, token economies are taught to be used not only with identified students, but with all students if they respond to the system as a reinforcer. The rewards and system set up will vary depending on the individuals, but it can really be effective for teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors, if used correctly.

[another awesome anon brings the teach]

anonymous asked:

To the other anon, I've done a token economy type thing. Of course it felt cheesy and patronizing, but for the most part we just rolled our eyes and went with it, which was more mature in the long run than objecting on principle. Brainbent mod is right, it did bestow structure and gave us a sense that our efforts were being recognized, which is more fulfilling than you might think in that kind of situation.

[ooh, many thanks, anonymous!

i always enjoy clarification/input from people who’ve been on both sides of the system. most of what i know comes from visiting relatives.]
