squatting in europe

hey, love the facts! i was wondering if you could post some about dave in scream please? thank you! :-)

That’s great! Ah, well, my knowledge about that period isn’t as good as others but I can give it a bash.

  • A recording of Dave doing ‘Gods Look Down’ recently surfaced, done a year before Scream used it on Fumble
  • They were increasingly politically motivated and played gigs for Amnesty International, planting the seeds for Dave’s musical/political leanings - his first gig with them was an Amnesty benefit
  • He lied about his age to get an audition
  • They played a lot of squats when they toured Europe, which is where Dave got his Bonham tattoo “by an Italian guy named Andrea whose tattoo gun was made out of a doorbell machine”
  • The Probot project has its roots in the Scream era - he met some of the musicians who went on to collaborate with him during Scream’s European tours
  • He had an Italian girlfriend during this period, which is how he learned to speak the language (and showed it off on Top Chef and in the Cesena announcement shout-out)
  • Dave and childhood friend/roadie Jimmy (also roadie for FF up until his death) almost wiped them all out in a van once when they were left in charge of driving and their bong smoke got so thick that they sent the van off the road at 70m/h
While homelessness is rampant worldwide, the production of empty spaces is a regular feature of contemporary society. When buildings sit empty for a long time while homelessness persists, it is clear that in these cases markets and states fail to fulfill their expected role as effective allocators of space.
