spring break is coming to an end

Little Fish

Watching the kids at swim lessons and I start crying. Dino is so good at swimming! The swim coach taught him the breast stroke and he almost has his breathing and stroke synchronized. MeToo hated water and now she willingly puts her head under water. And Bee is doing great too, especially with breathing.

Being in the south, the pool is open until the end of September. I think we’ll do swimming until then and then take a little break for soccer and then start back in the spring and enroll Dino on the swim team.

Oh. Wait, it’s foster care- no planning allowed. There’s a huge chance the case plan will change to RU in the coming months. The cw text me today and doubts tpr will be granted, “but don’t worry they’ll end up back into care quickly.”

A Beauty & The Beast AU

With No Beauty And No Beast

In a kingdom fearing wolves Stiles, a young magician, had wandered into the forest belonging to the most powerful clan of wolves. it was a suicidal action and dumb for sure but Stiles had to meet with the Alpha. he had to find a way to save his village from the winter that doesn’t end.

It was told that the winter was a curse and only the Alpha of Beacon Hills will break it, but all who tried to come across the Alpha had never returned and the village stopped trying.

It had been eight years since the last spring in Beacon Hills and the village had used its last resources, if a spring won’t come in the next three months, the body counts will include everyone in Beacon Hills, so Stiles took his spell book and marched into the dark forest where the wolves roamed.

170216 Why BTS' 'Spring Day' Is the Perfect Move for the K-Pop Boy Band -- Both Artistically & Professionally

If there’s a K-pop act that is navigating the global music scene best, BTS is arguably the top choice. Since their 2013 debut, the boy band has broken records on the Billboard 200 – becoming the Korean act to land the most albums on the chart and net the biggest first-week opening – in addition to being a constant presence on charts like Billboard’s Social 50, World Albums and World Digital Song Sales tallies. Yet, it’s only with their latest release “Spring Day” that a BTS single seems most likely to break the group into new chart territory and that’s thanks to smart artistic and professional decisions.

Undoubtedly, BTS has found the major enthusiasm for their LPs thanks to the deeper social and personal topics the band discusses with past album tracks touching on bullying, mental health and the dark sides of adolescence. Meanwhile, past singles like “Run” and “Blood, Sweat & Tears” and their accompanying videos stood out for exploring deep devotion, but ultimately only explored that one topic. “Spring Day” takes things a step farther by getting more into the journey one takes during a tough time or break up.

On the single, the members sing and rap about an internal winter inside them due to missing someone and, at first, there does not seem to be an end to the heartache – likely a commentary on depression and mental health, topics the band had discussed in past album tracks and mixtapes. Yet by the end of “Spring Day,” there is a change and the boys describe how there is a light and warmness that inevitably comes with Jungkook declaring, “No darkness, no season, is forever.”

The guys are still pining for their lost love, but they aren’t staying in a one-track mindset. Instead, they use the weather and seasonal metaphors to describe how things get better – a lesson many of their young fans can find comfort in when dealing with relationships, or school, friends, family, their careers or beyond. While it’s all done over hard-hitting beats, buttery vocals and punchy rap verses – as one would expect from any BTS release – it’s this newfound maturity and enlightenment that makes the single stand out so much.

Not only was “Spring Day” a smart artistic move, but it was extremely savvy for BTS and their Korean label BigHit Entertainment to focus on one single for the repackaged deluxe version of their hit album Wings titled You Never Walk Alone.

Wings already broke – and continues to break – multiple chart records, including when it became the first K-pop album to spend multiple weeks on the Billboard 200 and also as it celebrates a remarkable 18th week on World Albums this week. By leading a re-ignited excitement over You Never Walk Alone with one single, fans are more than ever collectively focused on this one song.

That focus was seen when “Spring Day” flew into the the Top 10 of the Top Overall Songs chart on U.S. iTunes after its release on Sunday and remained high even as tracks from the 2017 Grammys began racing up the rankings. No K-pop group has sent a song as high on the iTunes singles chart, with only PSY being the other Korean act to land a song as high when “Gangnam Style” topped the ranking in 2012. A tweet from BigHit’s CEO Bang Sihyuk even commented on the accomplishment on Twitter.

The hype for “Spring Day” is particularly high in America as the band gears up for three arena concerts in America, a major indication of the fans ready to support, buy, stream and watch the music video for this single and not be as distracted by a full-length album’s worth of material. (Though, one should not disregard the new tracks including ultra-fierce “Not Today,” the long-awaited thumper “Outro: Wings,” or the introspective “A Supplemental Story: You Never Walk Alone.”)

There are hurdles BTS will need to jump over to have their single be a chart hit in America, including releasing the song two days after the charting period started on Friday and major competition from songs associated with the Grammys. But if the numbers end up in BTS’ favor and they chart a single on the Billboard Hot 100 – or even the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, which counts the 25 singles just below the top 100 – it will be a major accomplishment, but not one unearned. By continuing to progress as artists, the band’s business- and chart-savvy moves only make their releases able to be that much more celebrated.

Summary: They always said Kim Taehyung had a you-shaped hole in his heart.
Pairing: Taehyung | Reader
Genre: Fluff + light Smut, Skater Boy AU
Word Count: 12,819
Author’s Note: Inspired by those Taehyung left version concept photos and mainly sparked by a conversation I was having with @an-exotic-writer so naturally I drafted this as a token of my love and no I am definitely not writing this because talking to Missy certainly does not give me heart problems whatchu mean. I’m also tagging @kimvtae because we were screaming about the concept of a skater boy Tae together.

.

You’ve always had a very peculiar habit of being drawn towards the things you couldn’t even imagine yourself doing—although you could argue that’s exactly why you found yourself naturally gravitating towards them in the first place. Unlike most people, who might have been taken by an envious desire to take on certain challenges and obstacles that were most likely out of their league, you found a natural peace chasing after something you couldn’t quite obtain yourself.

Maybe it was your own self-awareness or the fact that you never felt confident enough to branch out towards something that was so clearly on the opposite end of the spectrum from what you were normally use to. You’ve always just been content watching other people take on their passions while you remained on the sidelines with your own hopes and dreams and aspirations. It always excited you to see people participating in their interests—so much so that friends would always humor you that it was always the people rather than the activity they were indulging in that drew you in towards them.

That’s probably why you accepted your best friend’s invitation to leave your apartment for once and drive down to the pier, taking refuge across one of the many skateparks that planted themselves across the oceanfront, beyond the cool sand and ocean breeze of spring. Jeon Jungkook always reprimanded you for rarely having the time to come out and see him perform his new spins and flips, which is probably why he seems much more animated than usual at the prospect of finally getting to show off these new skills to you.

‘We’re just having a drink’ you say, nodding at your two best friends as you try not to show to Klaus any hints of what you’re feeling. He’s a bad person, you remind yourself, and being with him will only get me into a heap of trouble.

‘Any special occasion?’ he asks.

‘Beginning of spring break’ you tell him in a flat voice, fiddling with the ends of your hair self consciously and focusing your gaze on the table. You might not be able to contain yourself if you look up into his warm blue eyes.

‘Well, I’d love to buy you a drink then’ he says ‘care to come and get one with me?’

You swallow, trying to fight back how desperately you want to take him up on his offer.

‘No thanks’ you say instead ‘we’ve just got fresh ones.’

‘Well, another time then’ he replies, and you sneak a quick glance upwards. A look of hurt sweeps across his face, but he replaces it with a smile quickly, and leaves the three of you alone. You slouch with disappointment, and wish immediately that you’d gone with him. You have to remind yourself in your head that he’s not a good person. You should fear him more than the little amount that you do.

‘What was that about?’ Bonnie asks, intrigued ‘you were practically shaking in your seat. You’re never normally that nervous.’

‘Yeah, come to think of it, you’re always like that around Klaus’ Elena says ‘you don’t…have feelings for him do you?’

You glance behind Elena, towards the bar, where Klaus is sitting with a drink in his hand. He’s staring at the wall, and you have a suspicion that he’s listening to every word you’re saying. You gesture to him, then your ears and then the door, hoping that the two girls will get the message. Luckily they do, and the three of you exit the Grill, leaving your half finished drinks on the table.

‘I do’ you admit once Klaus is out of earshot ‘he just makes me feel so…I can’t even explain it. I keep trying to remind myself that he’s not a good person, but I just want to be with him all the time. That wouldn’t be so bad would it?’ you ask, thinking that if your best friend agreed it wouldn’t, then maybe you wouldn’t have to be so worried, or scared of what might happen if you let him in. Maybe you would finally be able to tell him how you feel.

‘Of course it would!’ Elena says ‘Y/N, have you lost your mind? Don’t go anywhere near Klaus.’

Your hope turns to anger, even though your best friend was only giving her opinion in order to help you. You know that you should just swallow your disappointment and move on, but you can’t help yourself from saying; ‘that’s a bit much, he’s not that bad. You’re always like this aren’t you?’

‘Like what?’ she asks, looking hurt at your sudden change in attitude. You feel bad, but the words slip from your mouth before you can stop them.

‘You always warn me to ‘stay away’ from guys’ you say ‘and then you usually end up dating them! That happened with Stefan, remember, and then you two got together!’

‘That’s so unfair to say’ she says ‘I fell in love with Stefan, even though I was trying to stay away too. I was trying to help you Y/N. I’d just found out he was a vampire, and I didn’t think any of us should be near him.’

‘Except you, apparently’ you shoot back ‘are you going to do the same thing with Klaus now?’

‘I want nothing to do with Klaus!’ she says ‘if you want to go and get yourself killed over him, be my guest.’ She starts to get angry too, which winds you up more. ‘You think I always ‘steal your guys?’ Well, you always do this!’’ she shouts ‘you ask for my advice and then you get angry when I don’t say what you want to hear.’

‘No I do not!’ you shout equally as loudly ‘your advice is just always selfish and wrong!’

‘Then don’t ask anymore!’

‘I won’t then!’

‘Have fun getting killed’ she says in a rough voice, and turns on her heel to leave. Bonnie shakes her head sadly at you before following, leaving you all alone in the alley. You think back over what just happened and feel tears prick your eyes. Why did you just purposefully pick a fight? You’re so confused over your feelings about your fight and Klaus. You know you should go after Elena and apologise, but your turn around and head back inside the Grill instead. You walk over to where Klaus is still sitting and take the seat next to him. You lower your head into your hands, and a few tears leak down your cheeks.

‘Are you okay love?’ Klaus’ hand is back on your shoulder, and he looks concerned.

‘I…’ you begin and trail off.

He takes your hand gently and leads you away from the crowded bar and through a door to the right, into a small, mostly empty room.

‘What’s wrong?’ he asks, looking into your eyes.

‘I got into a fight with Elena’ you say.

‘You two looked happy a few minutes ago’ he says ‘was it…something I said?’

‘Truthfully, sort of. It bought up something else’ you tell him vaguely.

‘What was that?’

‘I’ll tell you sometime’ you say ‘but, for now can you just distract me from it?’

‘How?’ he asks, his face inches from yours.

Your hands shaking, you pull your t shirt over your head, leaving you standing there in your navy blue lace bra. You see Klaus’ eye’s widen, and you say again ‘distract me.’

He crashes his lips into yours, and you feel sparks erupt through you. His hands wander around your shoulders and down your back, undoing the catch of your bra and removing it in one swift move, leaving you bare in front of him. He breaks away from the kiss and casts his eyes downwards, murmuring ‘you’re so beautiful’ before kissing you again, this time harder. He cups your breasts in his hands, making you moan softly into his lips, as your fingers fiddle with the hem of his black t shirt. You pull it quickly over his head, growing wet at the sight of his toned chest and the feeling of his lips on your breasts, which have replaced his hands. He slides his hands down to your hips, removing your skirt and panties, and lifts you up so that his head is in between your thighs, your legs draped around his shoulders.

He plants small kisses on your inner thighs, making you tremble under his touch, before licking a small strip along your clit.

‘Klaus’ you moan, begging him to do something. He looks up at you and smirks before slipping into your entrance with his tongue. He begins to suck on it, swirling your arousal as he does so.

‘Fuck Klaus’ you groan, as he rubs your swollen clit in figures of eight while his mouth works, the friction making you grind your hips into his tongue, desperate for more. He makes a low humming sound and the vibrations travel through your body, causing you even more pleasure. He switches his fingers with his tongue, sucking on your clit as he pushes them into you, hitting your g-spot over and over.

‘Yes, keep going, mmm, just like that’ you moan. You run your fingers through his hair and arch your back upwards, still balanced on his shoulders.

‘I’m gonna cum’ you warn him as you feel yourself nearing your end. He starts to move his fingers even faster, bringing your orgasm closer.

FUCK, Klaus’ you scream, and you feel yourself release into his mouth. He slowly slips his fingers out of you, using his tongue to lick your juices from you as your orgasm rocks your body. When he’s finished he straightens up, quickly removing his jeans and boxers, hissing at the cold air hitting his hard member. You take his cock in your hand, pumping him and causing him to moan as you guide him towards your entrance. Without warning he slams into you, giving you no time to adjust.

Moans escape your lips, half from pleasure and half from pain, as he thrusts into you faster.

‘Y/N’ he groans ‘oh, fuck, shit.’

You kiss him down his neck and across his chest, still pinned between the wall and his body. His moans grow louder and the veins under his eyes become prominent as you tighten around him. Without warning he pulls out of you completely, making you gasp at the loss of friction, before spinning you around and slamming back into you.

‘KLAUS’ you scream at the new angle, as he hits your sweet spot. The feeling overtakes your whole body, and you forget about Elena and the fact that people might be able to hear you as he pushes in and out of you. You moan each other’s names as you reach your ends.

‘I’m so close’ you tell him.

‘Me too’ he growls, and you feel him start to lose his rhythm as he orgasms, which sends you over the edge as well. He slows down, moving inside of you for a little longer and then pulling out and giving your swollen lips another hard kiss.

You turn around to face him in the dark room, trying to get your breath, as you blurt out ‘I’m in love with you.’ The words are sweet on your lips, and you smile at him, not feeling the fear that you did before. ‘That’s why we were fighting’ you tell him ‘because I’m in love with you.’

He lowers his head to speak into your ear; ‘apologize to Elena, she’ll forgive you. And it’ll all be alright love; because I’m in love with you too.’

‘What if she doesn’t forgive me?’ you whisper back.

‘She will love. And if she doesn’t, then why don’t you take a walk on the wild side of life with me?’

‘I couldn’t think of anything better’ you smile

The Timeline of a Theory

Tuck Everlasting (1808): The Tucks drink from the spring.

Tuck Everlasting (1893): Jesse Tuck befriends Winnie Foster and gives her a small bottle of spring water. He also collects a second bottle of water which he takes with him, should he come across another partner in crime.

1897-1899: While on one of the Tuck family 10 year breaks Jesse goes to New York where he starts a new life. He become good friends with Morris Delancey and eventually gives him the bottle of spring water. But they eventually have a falling out. They fight and Oscar Delancey steps in (unaware of the fact that Jesse can’t be hurt) and “wounds” Jesse. Of course Jesse has to go along with it. He starts limping and gets himself the nickname “Crutchie”

Newsies (1899): Working as a newsboy now, Jesse ends up being best friends with the strike leader Jack Kelly. Sometime after the strike is over Morris and Jesse reconnect. Not as friends, but because they know they’re all they’ve got in their never ending life.

1903: During the next Tuck family meet up Jesse brings Morris with him. The Tuck family was taken aback at first, but eventually welcomes Morris into their family. Morris and Angus end up growing very close and form a strong father-son bond.

1994: Over the years Angus and Mae had their difficulties and did eventually split up. Morris and Angus generally traveled together during their 10-year breaks. During one of the breaks Angus and Morris decided to start fresh in a new location with new names. So they changed their names to Larry and Connor.

2008-2009: Larry meets a woman named Cythia and they fell in love, got engaged, and then married. Both had kids from a previous “relationship” (Larry had Connor and Cynthia had Zoe), but each treated the unrelated child as if they were their own. Larry never told Cynthia the truth.

Dear Evan Hansen (2010-2011): Connor knew he couldn’t stick around much longer because he wouldn’t be aging. Larry could stay since he was older, but he knew Connor was right. So Larry helped Connor fake a suicide (he did the hard things because it was the right thing). (Entire plot of Dear Evan Hansen plays out.)

Pitch Perfect (2012-2013): After taking a gap year to work at The Pottery Barn, Evan Hansen began attending college near home. However, his lie eventually came out. He was publicly reprimanded for it to the point that he just had to get away. So he opted for out-of-state schooling at Barden University in Georgia. But in order to make sure he wouldn’t be ridiculed for what he had done he started going by a different name: Benji Applebaum

The Girl with an Iron Spear and a Pouch of Salt

Most people don’t go looking for trouble. I certainly wasn’t when a letter showed up on my doorstep on a Sunday morning. I wasn’t looking for trouble when I arrived at a strange campus in the middle of the woods. Trouble found me, like most of the other new students who walked out of the woods.

Most of them.

We learned the dangers of this new trouble fairly quick. We tried to stick together, determined to get by.

We lost three people the first month.

I was sitting in the cafeteria I think when my attention drifted from my troubles to the group of students gathered in the corner of the room, speaking in whispers and many languages at once. The students of the Forbidden major. They lost three as well, the ones who thought they were careful. The ones who thought wrong.

They had one new student left.

She was a girl with jet black hair pulled into a messy bun and icy blue eyes. I remember her on the first day, a small girl with two duffels too big for a girl like her.

Months flew by and she still held my attention. A girl who always carried a long object wrapped in black cloth. A girl who carried a heavy pouch and iron bracelets. I passed her many times on campus, too scared to make eye contact.

The rumors started after around the holiday season, after an Incident. A boy with one eye told me she was the one who ended it, and a girl with red hair and tired eyes say the girl caused it. Both disappear soon after.

It’s the week before spring break that I start getting warnings to stop things I’ve never started. A day later, I find myself alone at night, coming back from the library. I don’t see them coming.

I’m making my peace when the strangest thing happens. I can see again, and what I see is still engraved into my mind. The girl is there. She’s swinging something. An ornate spear made of iron. She reaches into her pouch and pulls out a light pink stone. It crumbles in her hands and she flings it toward my attackers, who hiss and melt into the shadows. Salt stone. She has a pouch full of salt stones.

I looks at me with cold blue eyes and I ask her name.

“Wo jiao Qiu Yu.”

I am Autumn Rain.

Considering doing more of Forbidden Majors with badass stuff. Whatcha think?

how to beat stress from school

1. plan out everything from events and activities to homework and due dates at the start of every week

2. break down big assignments into smaller steps that are easy to do and non-intimidating

3. light a candle whenever you can

4. take time for you and put on a face mask at least once or twice a week

5. treat yo’ self to little things every month

6. take a bath every now and then (bonus points for using a bath bomb)

7. make school fun again by getting some new school supplies or a new planner

8. be honest with yourself and the people around you when it’s time to get help with a school subject you’re struggling in

9. listen to me, do not beat yourself up over procrastination. everyone says that it’s the bloody end of the world to procrastinate, but i promise it’s not. in fact, studies have shown that some people are in fact more productive when they procrastinate. regardless, just do whatever works best for you and don’t worry about the haters.

10. watch a funny tv show or movie

11. hangout with friends

12. listen to happy music

13. clean your room and desk

13. go outside

14. when you start to feel overwhelmed/stressed/anxious remember that:

- you’re not alone

- you will get through this

- a bad grade or late assignment is not the end of the world

- this homework assignment does not define you

15. cuddle a cat/dog/human if you can

16. keep your focus on positive future events (spring break, graduation, etc.)

17. take each day as it comes, go with the flow, and don’t get overwhelmed by what the rest of the week has in store. one day at a time, my friend. just get through today.

18. strive for the best and do your best work at all times

19. remember why you want to succeed and do well

20. remember that perfection is an unattainable goal

Essays in Existentialism: Jealousy VI

Prompt: Perhaps a continuation of your Jealousy series? Canon S3 universe – Clarke, who is slowly but surely reconciling with Lexa, runs into Niylah in Polis. Lexa observes their interaction. Cue awkwardness and maybe a bit of jealousy. But, of course, Lexa would never admit it since jealousy is the product of weak mind or something like that. :)

The night was quiet, the hour so late that even those who fought against sleep failed against its power. The curtain danced in the breeze while the cold seeped in under it, freezing the concrete floor, slowly spreading into the room like a disease. It was no match for the bodies in the bed.

Jungkook glared at the set of numbers on his shoulder tucked right underneath his collarbone and scoffed.

“Who needs a soulmate anyway,” he muttered under his breath as he tugged a shirt over his head covering those horrid numbers. He hated them.

Those words were a great deal of irony for him to speak such words with the actions he would commit that night.

You could only hear your desperate panting and your heart racing as you ran faster. You were no match for his pace as he followed quickly behind your heels. Your eyes widened as they met with the fence at the end of the road. You halted to a stop grabbing at the fence with your hands and shaking it. Maybe someone would hear. Maybe the fence would miraculously break and you silently prayed for either of those.

Come on, come on, come on!

“HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME!” It was clear the intentions of the man following you. He had chosen the perfect hunting grounds for his victim.

The sound of footsteps approaching caused tears to spring up in your eyes. Scared was not the word to describe you. Your breath turned to ice as it left your lips.

“Please,” you pleaded towards the unknown figure. The man’s face was disclosed, blurred out as if your memory had forced itself to erase his image. You held out your hands in front of you, begging. His arms grab you spinning you around so you didn’t face him. A strong arm held your own arms tight against your body and cold metal pressed against your temple making you paralyzed. You could try to thrash around, but his grip was too tight —  you had already given up. Your eyes clenched shut, it would be over in a second.

“I’m sorry,” was all he breathed out.

You gasped as you sat up quickly on the park bench. No matter how many times those dreams came to you, you were always left damp with a cold sweat and heart that would put the fastest horse to shame. With a hand to your heart, you slowly began to calm and felt the beat of your heart slow to steady pace. The image wouldn’t have been erased off your mind though.

When you stood up, you felt an ache in your back. This had been your sixth night sleeping on the park bench. Where else could you go? You were a wandering soul stuck here.

Another story I'll probably never write

The title would be Spaghetti Boy
And it would be about Jungkook is is on a trip with some of his friends right? And he catches Jimin’s eye and Jimin is like “wow you’re hot let’s be each others spring break stories” while Kookie is like “nah I’m straight” then Jimin hits him with the line “So is spaghetti until it gets wet.” Jungkook laughs it off and they split.

Then at some point both Jungkook and Jimin are in a hot tub just chatting and Jimin kind a starts hitting on Jungkook again and Kook is like. “Bro I’m straight” and Jimin is like “yeah but baby we are all wet, you never thought about doing it with a man?” Then Jungkook eventually agrees and Jimin hops on that dick so fast. Jungkook has like a spiritual awakening lol as he lets Jimin bounce on him then eventually flips them over and Jimin whispers “cum in me baby” and Jungkook does it on command lol.

Then Jungkook is like “holy shit let’s do this more” and Jimin brings him to his hotel room where more sex happens. The next day Jungkook goes to hang out with his friends but comes back to Jimin’s hotel room. What should just be a fling during spring break ends up with them being a couple lol.

And Jimin calls him spaghetti boy.

CHAPTER 1: SUMMER 2011-SPRING 2012

There are five holiday breaks in Norway. During those breaks kids don’t have to go to school so even if for whatever reason you don’t celebrate those festivities you still don’t have class. That makes it a good chance to go somewhere else and relax, spend time with your family, maybe even make new friends.

Five holidays breaks that go along the year.

The summer break, the biggest of them all, starts on late June and ends on August. After that, the school year begins and it’s not until late September/early October when the autumn break comes, it only lasts a week but it’s something. Then Christmas arrives, 2 weeks without going to school, 2 weeks to relax. Just like autumn has its break, winter also has one, this one takes place on late February/early March and just like the previous season’s break it lasts a week. Then finally comes Easter, every April, kids, and also teenagers of course, have a free week.

As said before, these breaks give families the best chance to spend some time together, far away from the city.

For Yousef’s family that means going to the cabin in the woods. Every year, almost every holiday, they go there. The cabin in the woods is a pretty big house with four bedrooms, not that they need the four bedrooms, and two floors. Yousef always takes the room in the attic, he loves the views and the calm that comes with it. At first Yousef loved going to the cabin but as he grows up he starts to get bored, he rather spend his breaks back in Oslo with his friends. His family rents the house for the first month of summer, the autumn break, the second half of Christmas and the first 4 days of Easter. Someone would say that the Acar family are the best costumers for that cabin, but they aren’t actually the only ones who stay a big part of their year there.

Sana’s family started to rent that house for holiday breaks before Sana had even been born. As if they were taking turns with the Acar family, though they had never met and they wouldn’t for a really long time, the Bakkoush family would stay in that cabin during the second month of summer, the first week of Christmas, the winter break and finally the last 4 days of Easter. Sana had to fight a lot with her two brothers, Abdu and Elias, to let her take the attic room. Eventually she won the battle and the room was hers. She likes being there. She has never been a very social girl. Sure, she has friends but not as many as her brothers have. In fact, she has never taken any friend to the cabin, unlike her brothers who always have guests. That may be the reason why Sana starts to dread going to the cabin, she always feels alone there.

SUMMER 2011 (11 and 13 years old)

On the summer of 2011 as Yousef had been in that cabin for almost three weeks already, he was starting to get on his nerves. He kept pacing around the room trying to think about something entertaining to do. Of course, nothing came to his mind. He was about to give up when suddenly he tripped and almost fell. When he looked down to the floor to try to find out what had made him trip he realize that there was a loose slab. He kneeled to the floor and took the slab in his hands. In the spot it had left on the floor there was a gap, big enough to hide something. For a moment he got excited, what if someone had hid something there and he was about to discover it? But the hole was empty. He was a little disappointed at first but then an idea came to his mind. What if he was the one that would hide something there? But now the question was…what should he hide? It wasn’t like he had anything he wanted to get rid of. For 15 minutes he sat on the floor looking around the room trying to think about something good. His eyes stopped in the wooden wardrobe that had a broken door. He remembered how the first time he got there that summer, three weeks ago, as he was about to open the wardrobe, the door fell and hit him in the foot. In that moment he wished someone, a previous tenant, would’ve warned him. What if he did exactly that? What if he wrote a note for the next tenant warning them about the broken door, that was a good thing to do, right?

He stood up and grabbed a notebook and a pen.

“Hello there unknown person. If you’re reading this you’ve found the loose slab on the floor and just like me you’ve been curious enough to look in the hole hoping that you’d find something. Congratulations! You found me. Sorry if I’m not what you were waiting for. But I’m actually here with a good tip. Be careful when you open the wardrobe door. Unless it gets fixed after I leave next week (it’s July 2011, just in case you don’t see this until like a million years) if you try to open it too hard it’s going to fall on your feet and hurt you, trust me, it happened to me. I don’t really know what else to say, I’m actually feeling kind of stupid for writing this when no one is probably going to see it. I’ll feel like a complete dumbass when I get back here on autumn break and find this same piece of paper with no answer on it. Anyway, at least I’ve tried. Hope your stay here is more interesting than mine, but honestly, that wouldn’t be that difficult. Well, bye!”

He folded the paper and placed it in the hole. Then he took the slab and put it back in its place. Yousef knew that he probably wouldn’t get an answer, but at least now he had a reason to look forward to his next visit to the cabin.

 -x-

Sana sighed, only three more days and she finally would be back in Oslo. Not that her life was that interesting back home, but at least she didn’t have to be in the same place for a month. She was sitting on the bed looking at the floor trying to think about something that would entertain her. From her room she could hear her brothers’ laughs, they had brought some friends and were playing outside. It wasn’t like they wouldn’t let her play with them. On the contrary, Abdu and Elias always asked her if she wanted to hang out with them, but the truth was that most of the time Sana just wanted to be left alone. As she was lost in her thoughts something caught her attention. There was a slab on the floor that seemed out of place. She hadn’t noticed it before. She frowned and kneeled down. Sana took the slab and found a hole under it, big enough to hide something there. Without even thinking about it, Sana introduced her hand in the hole and tried to find something. She was about to give up when her fingers touched a piece of paper. She took it and unfolded it eagerly. There was a message, a short message from a previous tenant, and they had been there almost at the same time as her –the note said it was July 2011 and now it was August-. She looked at her wounded foot as she read the part about the broken wardrobe door. It had fallen on her foot the first night there. As she finished reading she thought for a moment. Should she answer? What if it was a psychopath trying to get her attention? But it really didn’t look like it and she didn’t have to reveal any fact about herself to answer. Besides, that person had tried to warn her about the door, the polite thing to do was to say thanks, right?

She grabbed a pen from her desk and started writing.

“Hi! How are you? Well, I guess it doesn’t make much sense to ask you that. It’s August 2032 here, guess it’s been awhile since you wrote that letter…Kidding!! It’s August 2011 so just a few weeks after you left, I guess? I just wanted to thank you for the tip even though I read this note way too late. Me and my wounded foot say hi to you. Since you gave me a tip, I’ll give you another. I don’t know when you’ll be back, if you’ll be back, but a word of advice? Don’t sleep with your window opened in summer, the mosquitoes will kill you. I’ve been bitten so badly this summer and I only slept with my window opened one night. At least next time I’ll be here it’ll be during Christmas break so I won’t have to worry about them, right? Well, I guess that’s pretty much what I wanted to tell you. Thanks again for the tip and don’t feel stupid, you got your answer ;)”

AUTUMN 2011 (11 and 14 years old)

To say that Yousef had spent the rest of the summer thinking about the possibility of him finding an answer to his note when he’d come back to the cabin would be a lie. Being honest he had pretty much forgotten about it as soon as he had arrived back to Oslo.

But when September came and it was time for him to go back to the cabin he found himself thinking about that every day.

As soon as he stepped into the cabin that autumn the first thing he did was run to his bedroom and close the door. He sat on the floor and took a deep breath before taking the loose slab in his hands. His heart beat fast in his chest as he introduced his hand in the hole and picked up the paper. He unfolded and grinned widely when he saw that his handwriting wasn’t the only one in the paper, someone had answered.

He laughed a little while reading it and as soon as he ended he grabbed a pen and wrote an answer

“I’m sorry to hear about your foot! Hope it’s okay now. And yeah I got bitten by the mosquitoes too, guess our blood is really tasty hahah…Okay that was a lame joke. Sorry!. To be honest I wasn’t expecting a reply, I guess we all get bored here in the cabin, right? By the way, I’m also going to be back here for Christmas…hmmm…I wonder how that will work. Guess we’ll know in a few months. Thank you for your answer and I hope you have a good autumn!”

CHRISTMAS 2011 (12 and 14 years old)

“I’m always here the first week of Christmas. We don’t celebrate Christmas in my family so we like to get away from the city. But on the second week we go back and spend some time with the rest of the family. A word of advice? When you come here next week don’t sleep with your window opened, you won’t get bitten by mosquitoes but you will literally freeze. Oh and by the way, yeah your joke was kind of lame but I’ve heard them worse, so don’t worry”

 -x-

“Oh, I see, I’m always here the second week of Christmas. It’s pretty much the same with my family but in reverse order. We spend the week with the family and then we come here for the second week and celebrate New Year’s Eve here, exciting…I know. And of course I won’t sleep with my window opened! It’s December, do you think I’m crazy??? Oh and thanks for being nice about the joke but you shouldn’t be that nice, you’ll make me think that it’s okay to say lame jokes and you’ll never hear the end of it. Happy New Year by the way! I guess this question doesn’t make much sense but…when do you come back?”

WINTER BREAK 2012  (12 and 14 years old)

Happy new year to you too!! I’m back here again! (it’s winter break, 2012) Well in that case I hate your lame jokes please don’t make one like that again! (jk, it wasn’t that bad). And hey, I was just trying to prevent you from getting frozen but okay…girl? Boy?…I just realized I don’t really know anything about you. Maybe you could tell me something, like your age for example? Please tell me you’re not a 40 years old man, that’d be creepy. I don’t want you to tell me your name though, I like the anonymous thing, it’s interesting and it feels safe, if you know what I mean. I’ll be back on the last four days of Easter, hope there’s an answer when I come back”

EASTER 2012  (12 and 14 years old)

“I’m not a 40 years old man!! I’m 38! Haha just kidding, another lame joke. I’m a 14 years old boy actually. And I agree with you with the anonymous thing, I think it’s better if we don’t know much about each other’s personal life, it’s more interesting this way. By the way I’m here for the first 4 days of Easter so I guess you’ll come back after I leave. It feels as if we were taking turns to be in the cabin hahah. Guess it was destiny that we would meet…well not meet, but talk.”

 -x-

“Ufff, I feel a lot better now. I’m a 12 years old girl, yeah yeah, I’m a little kid whatever…I’m sure I’m more mature than you. I actually think that I saw your car leaving when I got here? A nice white car? You know what? Forget about it, we’re trying to be anonymous here, we can’t know which kind of car we have either…I guess? So I won’t be back until summer, will you be here like last year?? I pretty much come the same dates every year so I guess now you know when I’ll be here. What about you? Was this year an exception or is it the rule? And yes I guess destiny was trying to make us meet…write…whatever. I’ll read you on summer!”

Trish’s Photography

Trish and I got together in our senior year. We were young and dumb and found comfort in each other’s awkwardness. What started as the typical teen infatuation quickly grew into a strong, solid bond and suddenly being on the fringe of high school society wasn’t so bad. We rode out that last year together, planning for a shared future in some distant college where we could start over, make new friends, and shed the nerdy outcast label that had haunted us for too long.

Team 7 surprise birthday party headcanons

Hey! I went ahead and assumed you meant their reactions to being thrown a surprise party, at least that’s what I think would be the most fun to write. I threw in context too, I hope this is what you wanted. I wrote it during the timeline where Sasuke was away from the village, except for his own birthday. I also included Sai bc I love that boy

Although he’s a little suspicious (after all, Sakura never goes out for ramen with him), he’s soon slurping back noodle bowls like nobody’s business. Sakura pays, making Naruto think that this was his whole birthday treat. After all, everyone in the village already nodded at him and gave him birthday wishes. Sakura walks him back up to his room, and he thanks her for the nice time. Although he’s very happy he got to spend time with Sakura eating his favorite food, he’s a little sad. The night is still young and his apartment is so quiet at night.

  • He opens the door and wonders why Sakura hasn’t left yet. But before Naruto can put two and two together, the lights flip on all at once and EVERYONE jumps out from around every corner and piece of furniture yelling “SURPRISE” loud enough to shake the building. Naruto jumps out of his socks; he’s shocked seeing to many familiar faces crammed into his tiny room. A warm feeling spreads from his fingertips to his toes and he can’t stop smiling. His eyes are watering, but no one mentions it. From the corner, Iruka’s eyes are wet too. He, Kakashi, Kurenai, and Gai are the only adults there, but they all feel a sense of family and pride, surrounded by their students.
  • There’s a cake waiting on the table in the kitchen that Choji can’t stop eyeing. Everyone huddles around as Kakashi cuts the cake. Naruto can’t stop talking a mile a minute, he hugs everyone at least twice (even Shino, who goes stiff but doesn’t resist) and eats a LIBERAL amount of cake. Everyone’s playing cards and talking and laughing and Naruto’s right in the middle of that warm glow. The party goes late into the night until the neighbours file a noise complaint, and even then the fun continues in a whisper. It’s not until the morning birds start chirping that people start to trickle out, starting with Rock Lee and Gai, who are devoted to their training regiments and have already sacrificed four and a half hours for Naruto’s birthday. Shikamaru claps Naruto on the back, Kiba gives him a big ol’ hug, and Hinata works up the nerve to squeeze his hand on her way out. Every touch is special, and it’s written on Naruto’s face for everyone to read how much this means to him.
  • Iruka is last to leave. Naruto thanks him; he can’t put into words the swelling feeling in his chest. The whole evening was a soak of acceptance, validation, and love from the village that was his home, the stuff he’d been hungry for since he was a very small child. Suddenly, Naruto hugs Iruka. Iruka’s surprised, but accepts. They stand there like that for a minute, both silent. Then Naruto steps back with his usual cheeky grin, and waves. “See ya tomorrow, Iruka-sensei!” After the door closes, Naruto flops into bed, floating on cloud nine. Still, he can’t escape the niggling wish that Sasuke had been there to celebrate too.

Sakura Haruno

  • It’s not really a surprise, she’s pretty slick to catch on when someone’s acting weirdly around her, and Naruto cannot stop fidgeting and stumbling over his words. After the day is over, training or a mission or whatever, he keeps interrupting Sai and shooting him dirty looks whenever Sai brings up “the secret”. Sai’s a bit confused on the whole concept of keeping a secret for a positive reason. “Why should they hide the surprise party from Sakura? She’s going to enjoy it anyways.” – Sai, 2017. Poor boy really doesn’t understand, and it’s not long before Sakura’s sniffed something out. She’s pleasantly surprised that her two teammates were so considerate to plan something for her birthday, but seeing as it’s Naruto and Sai, she figures the big surprise surmounts to a coupon off one bowl at Ichiraku’s.

  • And honestly, Naruto and Sai did have that as a part of the plan. Everyone enjoys a steaming bowl of good thick ramen, and Sakura finds it adorable how thoughtful her teammates turned out to be. They chat, but Naruto still seems to be on the edge of his seat. He’s glancing at Sai and sweating like a pig in August. Sai’s mouth is full of ramen, and for a moment Sakura relaxes, but then he looks at Naruto and says, “When are we going to go to Sakura’s h-”. Dropping his chopsticks, Naruto clamps a hand over Sai’s mouth, who looks bewildered. Naruto musters an awkward laugh, “Haha, oh Sai, always saying the weirdest things. Aren’t ya?” He gives Sai a friendly punch, but from the way Sai winces, Sakura can guess he’d revealed something he wasn’t supposed to. She lets it go, suppressing a giggle as she drinks her tea.

  • Unsurprisingly, Naruto and Sai offer to walk Sakura to her house. Now, she knows something is planned, but she’s not sure as to exactly what Naruto and Sai have up their sleeves. When she opens the door, she notices how Naruto can’t manage to hide the grin on his face. With a sigh and a small smile, she flips on the light and steps inside.

  • Of course, all her ninja colleagues are waiting inside, throwing their hands up and shouting “HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAKURA” at the top of their lungs. Although she had guessed so much would happen, Sakura still laughs and hides her face. “You guys are so sweet!” she gushes to Naruto and Sai, giving them a bear hug with an iron grip. There’s laughing and talking and cake-eating, and most of the presents Sakura receives are well-thought out, medicine-related tools that could prove invaluable to her practice, her favorite being an incredibly powerful microscope that fixes to the eye like a monocle, courtesy of Shino Aburame and his clan’s detailed knowledge of insect eye lenses. Sai gives her a portrait of herself; it’s beautiful and realistic, and he assures her several times not to worry, it won’t come to life. At one point in the night, Sakura and Ino find themselves giggling and sharing a piece of cake much like they might have before they were even genin.

  • At the end of the party Sakura is glowing with light, but exhausted. She’s about to wave Naruto and Sai out when they reveal they have one last present for her. Sai hands Sakura a slim piece of paper. Sakura feels a rush of affection when she sees it’s a free soak at the hot spring. Naruto beams. “You deserve a break, you’ve been working so hard!” Sai nods seriously. “I can’t imagine how stressful it must be, being our teammate.” Naruto shoots him a looks, but Sakura laughs and hugs the two of them. She can’t think of a better way to end the day than with a private soak by herself.

He finds them annoying and draining, and when he voices his mind about it, everyone just gets offended. So Naruto and Sakura devise a plan where in perfect tandem they’ll split up and give Sasuke one of the best birthday’s he could possibly ask for.

  • Sakura goes in first. She finds Sasuke by the dock where his clan used to live and sits down beside him. They make small talk until Sakura asks Sasuke if he’d like to walk her home. He complies, still distant, but Sakura can sense how grateful he is for the company. She can’t imagine how lonely his previous birthdays must have been. The sun is already setting in the sky, and the village is calm.

  • Along the way, Sakura feigns forgetting an errand she was supposed to run for Lady Tsunade. She tells Sasuke “it’ll only be a small detour, I’m so sorry for the inconvenience”. Sasuke replies that it’s fine, it’s not a problem. But he does frown when he realizes the path Sakura is leading him down tingles with old nostalgia. Something strange surmounts in Sasuke’s chest, but he still follows Sakura as eventually she leads him to the old training grounds, the first place ever where Team Kakashi worked together. Naruto’s perched at the top of the old wooden post, the very same one Kakashi had tied him to as punishment back when they were all genin. The memory is faded and frayed at the edges, and Sasuke can hardly believe it had happened only a handful of years ago.

  • Naruto leaps down to greet him, beaming. He holds out a bento box full of omosubi with okaka and tomatoes, Sasuke’s favorites. In the middle of the center omosubi is a single burning candle stuck in the rice. “Since you don’t like sweet stuff,” Naruto explains as Sasuke takes the bento box. He hasn’t said anything, and Naruto and Sakura exchange nervous glances. Naruto scratches his head. “We figured you wouldn’t want cake, since it’s sweet, y’know, so we did this instead.”

  • Sasuke doesn’t move, and Sakura and Naruto are terrified for a moment that they did the wrong thing, that something like this was too soon after everything that had happened. Then Sasuke takes a breath and blows out the candle. Pale smoke trails in the air, and Sasuke wears the barest hint of a grin. Naruto immediately protests, “You didn’t even make wish!” “Actually I did,” Sasuke replies, taking a bite of one of the omosubi. “Well, what was it?” asks Sakura. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” says Sasuke with a smirk. Sakura looks about to protest, but Naruto laughs and she joins in. In that moment she could almost trick herself into believing Sasuke had never even left the village.

  • The rest of the evening is calm and quiet. It’s just the three of them, and Sasuke cannot believe how lucky he is, after everything, to still have these two friends by his side. They stoke the long burnt out coals deep in him, encouraging the smallest of embers to catch. He knows one day, it’ll grow strong enough to melt the ice.

Sai (as a bonus)

  • You KNOW baby boy Sai hasn’t had so much as a birthday wish, let alone a full-scale surprise party. Naruto and Sakura know this full well and plan to take complete advantage of his innocence. They plan the most elaborate out-the-ass party they can think of, recruiting everyone they can find to help. Choji bakes this MASSIVE cake comprised of seventeen different flavours, including (but not limited to) chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, red velvet, coconut, marble, lemon, and confetti. Hinata, Lee, and Tenten spend hours hanging streamers and blowing up balloons, fucking Lee’s face turns red he’s huffing and puffing so much and the balloons turn out to be the size of watermelons he’s so over-zealous about it.

  • So they’re all crouched in position (party’s at Naruto’s, I’m not sure where Sai lives and Naruto isn’t either, so they decide it’s easier) waiting for Naruto, Sakura and Sai to walk through the door. Naruto and Sakura ask Sai to come over for cake, which he agrees. Sai is surprised to find that he actually feels warm, but he wonders if it’s just his body’s natural reaction in expecting to consume a ton of sugar. So he awkwardly agrees, trying to show his teammates he appreciates the gesture. It’s obvious to Naruto and Sakura that Sai has no idea what’s in store.

  • Sai steps through the door and everyone pops out shrieking “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” like the fucking apocalypse is about to go down.

  • Immediately Sai flies into the air like a fuckin’ startled cat, you can practically see the ears laid flat, fur puffed, fangs bared. He goes for his shuriken until he hears Naruto absolutely losing it next to him. Seriously, the boy is laughing so hard he’s wheezing.

  • Then he notices the familiar faces, Shikamaru, Lee, Tenten, every other ninja his age is there. Poor boy’s completely confused.

  • “Why…are they here?” “For your birthday!” “…Why?” “….uh…”

  • It charms the fuck out of everyone how confused Sai is, but he brightens up as soon as the cake’s brought out. There’s the regular party noises, chatting and laughing and eating, and Sai stands in the middle of it all holding a piece of cake on a paper plate. He turns out the sound and takes a bite of cake. The flavour is unfamiliar, but Sai finds he really enjoys it. He takes another bite.

  • Sai forgets to say goodbye to everyone until he’s prompted by Naruto, but he takes the initiative to ask Choji if he might be able to take home the rest of the cake for later. After everything is done, he decides he didn’t mind surprise parties. But if Naruto and Sakura ever throw him another one, he wants them to tell him first.

I work at my schools dining hall. I just transferred to this university thats out of state this semester. So its about to be april, and with no reliable transportation i havent been able to go home to my mom in 3 months and it has really taken a toll on me. Our spring break was at the beginning of march. However, since i started working here the manager has continously told me that the dining hall will be open and that everyone will be working, so i said okay. Told my mom i cant come home cause i have to work. Come spring break, I walk into work and was told “oh we dont need you, go home for the day because its really slow here, call back in the middle of the week, we’ll probably need you then.” So i did, by that time spring break is half over, they proceeded to tell me that i wouldnt work until school is open again smh. So fast forward at the end of the march, i booked a car to go home for a day,not even the whole weekend, just all of friday, then i come back Saturday afternoon. My schedule for the past 2 months has been mon-fri. I NEVER work on weekends. The day before i left i noticed that i had to come in on saturday. The policy is that if you cant make it to work your supposed to call in at least 2 hours before the place opens (because thats when the managers get there) to let people know. So on Saturday i called well over 2 hours before countless times, but no one picked up. I left 2 messages, then contined to call, still no one picked up. Come monday, my manager calls me into her office saying that im getting a write up because of “no call, no show” i was like huh?!?! I told her i called but no one picked up. She askes me what time dis i call, i told @ 6,7,8, and 9am (the place opens at 10) she says she didn’t arrive until 9:30. she says im getting written up because i didnt directly speak to someone, leaving a message doesnt count. How is that my fault that you didn’t want to pick up the phone or wasnt on time for work.

An Open Letter to A7X

To Avenged Sevenfold:

Before I start this letter, let me just preface it with the fact that I have been having some hand/nerve issues and my writing may become disjointed because of that.

I first found out about y’all four—almost five—years ago. The reason I got into y’all is probably a little different than other fans. I’m an avid reader and one of the books I read said to understand the book better, the reader needed to look up the lyrics to “Dear God” by Avenged Sevenfold and then to listen to it. So, like a good reader, I did. I fell in love with that song and had to hear more from this band. (I thought y’all were country). The second song I heard was “Hail to the King” and the change in pace and tempo made me love the band even more. I bought that album (it had just come out) and started listening to all of your other songs. It took about six months for me to get through all the albums, but when I had, you had all awakened a part of me I didn’t know existed.

From my appreciation of your music, I started looking into other hard rock and heavy metal bands. Obviously, I knew who Metallica was, but I started digging into more of their stuff and even got into Judas Priest and Pantera, bands my parents hated and bands I thought I would never like.

When I got my resident assistant job, I was listening to “MIA” and that song became my lucky one. Unfortunately, some things in my life happened that might have torn down another person. It was y’all and other metal bands that helped me through.

You see, I’m a soon-to-be college graduate who has had a difficult six years, but the last two years of my life have been rougher than I ever expected them to be.

It all started in November 2015 when I got this terrible lower abdominal pain. I thought it was cramps or ovulation pain; the emergency room in Texas couldn’t find anything wrong with me. Flash forward to winter break, and I’ve had this pain for four weeks now. My wonderful mom got me into a surgeon, and I’d never been more nervous. I’d only had my wisdom teeth removed, so an actual surgery terrified me. They took me in and let me listen to a couple of songs (“Gunslinger” and “Strength of the World”) before I went under. It turned out I had two ruptured cysts and appendicitis. I easily could have gotten a terrible infection from either.

Time wears on, and I head back to my university (University of North Texas, go Mean Green!). I’m an athlete, have been for most of my life. I run/ran three times a week. My knee started to dislocate when I ran, but I could just pop it back in place. Eventually, it got to the point where running and even walking hurt too much. I waited until summer and returned home to see what the hell was wrong.

From all my years of soccer and running, and continuing to play soccer after a knee injury five years ago, I had torn the ligament that attaches my femur to my patella—the most rare knee surgery. A week before my knee surgery, my incredibly wonderful mother found out that my alcoholic father had stolen and gambled away $3,000 from their joint account. That same say, my father found out that his mother was dying. He flew out to San Antonio to deal with that situation. Mom started the process for divorce. Literally an hour before my knee surgery, I found out my grandmother had died.

When I woke up, I was in the worst pain of my life. My knee had to be immobile for four weeks before I could start physical therapy. I was up every four hours to take Percocet, which we later found out I’m allergic to. Having my leg (my dominate leg) taken away from me and not being able to do things for myself filled me with anger. A lot of what helped me through was y’all and bands similar to you. Post-knee surgery me was the worst, but your music helped me through.

Fast forward again, and I’m now back at school in my final year (Fall 2016) and my life was looking up. I found a publisher for my books, I would be turning 21 in November, and I’d get to see my favorite band with my best friend at Texas Mutiny.

Texas Mutiny was the most incredible concert of my life. I smuggled my DSLR camera in (don’t tell anyone) and captured some of the best photos of my life. That concert helped me figure out what I wanted to do with my photojournalism degree. And for my 21st birthday, my friends surprised me with a signed vinyl of The Stage and several of your CDs. It cheered me up because my birthday was on Election Day and very few people remembered it… which was understandable.

However, my life can’t always be sunshine and rainbows. Nine days before my birthday, I was rushed to the ER after puking up my guts. The ultrasound technician found five ovarian cysts. Three of them were the size of my uterus, and I needed immediate surgery. Because I’m a college student “immediate” meant my next time off. My Thanksgiving break was recovery and more of your music. My wonderful mom came down to Denton to help me through that surgery.

My 2016 winter break was spent writing and getting my older sister to listen to your songs. She really enjoys the white album and even some songs on The Stage. I also examined that album and just fell in love with basically every song. My cover for my book came in, and I got inspired to write a collection of short stories based on songs. My favorite bands are featured quite a bit… I hope that’s okay.

Now, I’m back at school again and my stomach pain comes back. Two months after surgery and the ovarian cysts were back. But something even worse happened at the end of January 2017. I’m a writer and a photographer who depends on her hands for work and stress relief.

At the end of January, my hands started to malfunction. They can’t fully flex of fist, they’re always cold, they get numb and tingling, my wrists and elbows hurt, and my joints are very stiff. My spring break was spent back in Reno getting tests done. They ruled out anything wrong with my central nervous system—thank god—but the pain still remains. And I was scared. I’m still scared actually. I have psoriatic arthritis and it’s incurable. Really the only things helping me are music, the Deathbat nation, my friends, and my mom. To make matters worse, my father had two heart attacks and two surgeries right before I came home. He only has maybe 2-5 years left. He’s an asshole, but I love him.

I know that was the longest intro ever, and y’all are probably wondering why I’m writing this at all at this point. My name is Carmen, and I’m a photojournalist (almost) and recently published author who just wants to thank you guys for everything you’ve done for me and the other fans. So here’s my long list of thank yous.

To all the guys: thank you for forming Avenged Sevenfold. Without you coming together, I wouldn’t have found a lot of my friends. Your music has gotten me through some of the most difficult situations in my life and your music has inspired my writing and made me a better person (the writing portion). There’s something about your music that just speaks to people and has made my life so much brighter. I can’t wait to see you and Metallica in June!

To Brooks: I know you haven’t been with the band long, but I’m glad you’re with them! I loved your drumming when you were with Tenacious D and Bad Religion. You definitely remind me of the dad friend out of all the guys, and I think it’s awesome to see what you add to the band. Your drumming on The Stage is also INSANE. I love what you did on “Angels.”

To Johnny Christ: I don’t think you’re a gnome for starters. You’re much taller than my short ass. All jokes aside, I love how you are on stage. You exude so much passion and energy; I wish I had gotten more photos at Texas Mutiny. You sing/shouting on “Nightmare” also adds a little depth to the song and never fails to put a smile on my face. Oh! Congrats on your son.

To Zacky V: I’m ambidextrous because I have to be from the hand issues, and I so rarely see left-handed musicians that every time I watch you play, it gives me hope. I’m not musically inclined at all, but knowing a lefty is out there brightens my day. You have such an awesome style and your skill with the guitar is out of this world. I hope we can get more solos from you.

To Synyster: dude, you are one of the best guitarists I’ve heard, excluding Santana. I could pick your style out so easily. The work you’ve done with A7X and Pinkly Smooth just blow me away. I can’t believe someone can have talent and skill like that. You are a guitar god, Mr. Haner.

To Shadows: as a writer, I most easily connect with words. Your lyrics speak to me on a spiritual level (which is probably why I have so many tatted on me). You have a way with words. And your voice is so unique and every time I hear “Dear God,” I remember why this band became my favorite. Just, thank you for doing what you do.

To the women of A7X (Val, Michelle, Lacey, Megan, etc.): thank you guys for being you. I hope you know how much love the Deathbat nation has for you. Without your support, the band probably wouldn’t be where they are (no offense guys).

To the fans: thank you guys! I have met so many amazing people through this band. Y’all have helped me through a lot, and I’ve met some good friends through it. Sevenfold has cultivated a fan base unlike any other, and I’d like to thank every Deathbat for who they are and for being so caring and for taking care of me.

So, I just want to say thank you from a fan who’s been through a lot and has made it through thanks, in part, to your music and the most supportive mother ever. The only thing I have to add is that my dream is to one day meet y’all and thank y’all in person. And this final part is going to sound so fucking cheesy, but I hope y’all sign my Deathbat and that the writer side of me gets to write your extended (not brief) biography.

Thanks again for all you have done.

Sincerely,

Carmen
