Where freshly minted Captain Kirkreads up on stuff evenwhen he’s not on shift and nods off in random conference rooms on the Enterprise. Certain first officers who don’t require as much sleep take care of things.
When you get bored in Quantitative Chemical Analysis lecture and you just read Refuge by @onedamnminuteadmiral so you’re still emotional and draw a half-assed, really bad doodle of these two dorks confessing in the snow in the middle of winter in Iowa.
(I may do an actual version of this, idk we’ll see)
The story follows Spock from his own days as a cadet at Starfleet Academy to the ‘present day’ when he’s Kirk’s first officer and the Enterprise is on its five-year mission. Essentially, the story of Spock’s first real love followed by the story of him finding the love of his life. Ad astra per aspera.
How does one go about recing a fanfic one’s been reading as a WIP for 6 years? How do I separate out the story, from the act of reading it?
I started reading this fic shortly after the first parts were posted in fall of 2010, and from the very start it killed me that I couldn’t rec it.(well I could of course, but I don’t rec wips as a rule.) I could tell then that it was going to be amazing, that it would reset personal headcanons and make me wish I saw those versions of the characters on film.
@kianspo was kind enough to write a Chasing the Sunrise, a one shot in that universe (it’s teen Spock and its glorious!) which allowed me to rec it like mad and even commission an art for it. That fic remains my top 2 Star Trek fics of all time.
Don’t Stop Believing is a Spock story, specifically AOS Spock and it’s glorious. Kianspo did the nearly impossible. She took what we saw of AOS, and what we know of TOS and brought to life a Spock that I can’t help but love. He’s brilliant and reckless and feels every emotion and has the emotional intelligence of a child and I just. I JUST.
And! There is plot! and action, and adventure! And Kirk is amazing and brilliant in his own way! And Pike. OMG Pike. And T’Pring! And the rest of the crew! And the OCs!
And look- bottom line is kianspo is brilliant, this is already a fandom classic in my mind, and I have wonderful taste. Go read it.
