Honoring the Elements: Altar Guide 🕯✨

Setting up an altar dedicated to the elements is simple and effective! And what better way to show thanks for their presence in our lives than through your own personal shrine? The elements are a part of our everyday living, and assist heavily in our paths. Here are some simple additions you can incorporate into your own altar:

Earth: flowers, bones, sticks, herbs, leaves, crystals/stones of your choice 🌍

Air: incense sticks or cones, feathers, a wand, sage or palo santo 🌬

Fire: red, orange, or yellow candles (or any color!), a salt lamp or candle holder 🔥

Water: a chalice, bottle, or bowl of fresh water (or water collected from a lake/river/pond/ocean), shells, sea salt, something representative of the moon (to honor the tides) 💧

Spirit: a pentagram (drawn, molded, sewn, etc, or perhaps you have one that you’ve purchased), any object that is close to your heart and representative of you 🔮

(and don’t forget about figurines, small framed photos, or written notes of your choosing. personal touch is everything)!
The element of Air

The winds are ever changing and uncontrollable,

at times gentle and soft

other times violent and ruthless

but always, always uncontrollable.

the element of air stands out from the other elements.

all of the other elements; earth, fire, water, are all visible, and touchable (dont burn ya self lol)

air however, is only visible as it shakes the tree tops, and turns the leafs rustling into music

as such, people often have a harder time finding ways to incorporate the element of air into their craft.

here are a few easy and simple ideas for that;

🍃this can be done everywhere, on your way to work, or in the comfort of your garden;

notice the way your lungs expand with each breath.
visualize the pure air, cleansing your body and mind of all troubles bothering you.
this is very effective if you´ve had a particularly bad day at work or school, and have no way to leave the situation making you uncomfortable

🍃notice the sound the leafs and grass makes, as they are touched by the wind

really tune into the sound.
hum along to the breeze (the little folk really enjoys this as well),
if you want to, you can even make a little song out of the melody. i used to this a lot when i were a child. you really get in contact with your inner child.

🍃dancing. yes it sounds silly and it sure is! (this is also something the faery folk likes), but feeling the way the wind touches your body, and letting it sway you is both fun and a very good way of bonding.

🍃on car rides, particularly hot days, sticking you hand out the way and notice how the wind braids itself around your fingers, now try moving your hand and fingers in different ways, it is a really good calming method, if you´re feeling annoyed as well.

🍃opening your windows, and letting new air in. sit and notice how the atmosphere slowly changes.

🍃if it´s a stormy day out, i like to visualize the wind going trough me, encouraging bravery and strength, this always makes me feel very powerful, and witchy

🍃doing spells in stormy weather, particularly ones for strength, courage or curses is a super good way to get you in the mood, and gives an extra energy boost to the spell

🌿 Offerings to the Earth 🌿

When forging or harvesting flowers, plants, herbs and other living things from nature to use in your craft, it is wise to ASK PERMISSION FIRST, listen and use your intuition. The plants may ask for you to leave an offering - sometimes they will tell you exactly what they want and at times they’ll ask for a surprise, but leaving an offering for the earth in appreciation and gratitude is very vital, for they are magickal alchemist.

Here are some ideas of offerings to give to the earth:

  • A sacred song
  • A graceful dance
  • A beautiful prayer
  • A poem
  • A story
  • A handwritten love note
  • A small crystal or gem
  • Tobacco // Sage
  • Your hair
  • Biodegradable Tiny sealed jar with sacred menstrual blood
  • Biodegradable Tiny sealed jar spell
  • Moon water
  • Rose water
  • Holy water
  • Herbs, seeds + other Plants
  • Your most sacred item

This scene is interesting to me because it’s a turning point. In this scene, these characters are essentially strangers to each other and have just reconnected.  Miami is surrounded by water, it’s always present, and I felt that there needed to be a moment of spiritual transference between these two characters and this idea of a swimming lesson– of Juan teaching Little how to swim, how to sustain himself– seemed like the right place to do it. I told Mahershala, “This is a baptism, and I need you to teach him how to float. Teach him how to swim.” Alex Hibbert actually did not know how to swim. He’s learning how to swim as you’re watching the scene. And it’s beautiful, because in this moment, where I want this element of spiritual transference to occur – you watch a grown black man teach a young black boy how to swim in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

Spell and charm bag for safe travels! (Requested)

Feel free to preform this spell whenever you need to ensure a safe journey.

*Optional

You will need:

(spell only):

  • 2 orange candles*preferably small, you will let these burn all the way down*
  • *Amethyst and/or clear quartz
  • Sage and/or mint
  • Your favorite incense

(charm bag/satchel):

  • An orange pouch or drawstring bag
  • 2 orange candles *preferably small, you will let these burn all the way down*
  • Amethyst and/or clear quartz
  • Sage and/or mint
  • Piece of paper and a pen (black)
  • Your favorite incense

Light your two candles and put them infront of you along with your incense, feel free to roll your candles in oil and then the herbs (optional). Take in several deep cleansing breathes until you’re grounded. Sit with your legs crossed and sit up straight with your hands resting on your knees and your palms facing up.

If you are making the charm bag, draw on a small piece of paper a symbol of protection (this is your choice, can be a cross, pentacle, a protection rune, etc. anything that makes you feel safe!) fold the paper three times. Collect the items and place the stones, sage/mint and the protective symbol into the bag and seal it.

Visualize a white light slowly being absorbed into you and spreading throughout your body. Continue breathing deeply as you picture yourself getting to your destination safely and without harm. When you feel ready raise your arms up and repeat:

“Bless our journey and keep us from harm
With light of protection and amethyst charm
Our path be straight and free from strife
Many more adventures left upon my life”

If you are only doing the spell, sit quietly for a few minutes and rub the stones in your hands as you watch the candles burn all the way down. **PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE LIT CANDLES UNATTENDED**

Charging your charm bag:

Take your bag and pass it over the incense smoke or the candle (carefully!) to rid it of any unwanted energies. When you are ready, hold the charm bag and visualize the energy that you did earlier but will it to course through you and into the bag. When you are done place the bag inbetween the two candles and let the light from them surround the bag. Let the candles burn all the way down and then go about your day (:

Hope this helped,

Venus Signs

Venus is the planet of love, relationships and friendships and gives us insight as to the qualities that we admire in others but also the ideal nature of our connections. Along with this, planets in the fifth and seventh houses can give indications as to our relationships with others, as well as the sign on the seventh house cusp.

Venus in Aries: These individuals likely crave the rough and tumble traits of others, the impulsive and sparky elements. They likely enjoy heated, somewhat argumentative relations, yet with a boldness and the spirit of adventure. This is a passionate and initially intense energy.

Venus in Taurus: These individuals likely crave stable and tender relationships, where enjoying the physical environment can be a shared, sensual experience. They likely admire the determined, loyal and grounded energy of others, people that they can feel safe and familiar with.

Venus in Gemini: These individuals likely enjoy the light-hearted and humorous traits of others, the intellect and charisma, a much more cerebral energy. These relationships are often changeable, comedic and can even be somewhat sweet if not odd at times.

Venus in Cancer: These individuals enjoy devotion and a full heart, where there is a soul to soul connection and a certain sensitivity. They likely admire the supportive, compassionate and nurturing traits of others, people they can feel that they find a home in.

Venus in Leo: This is a placement that seeks full fledged adoration and dedication, a generosity with both time and affection. People with Venus in Leo likely seek friends and partners that are bold, vivacious and full of a light and loving spirit.

Venus in Virgo: People with this placement know the value of the small things in life, the small gestures of kindness and helpfulness, so while these connections may be at least at first reserved, they often bloom into something that resembles devotion, helpfulness and groundedness, a supportive energy.

Venus in Libra: This is a placement that seeks communication and connection in relationships, where they can enjoy the finer side of life together. People with this placement likely admire the peace-keeping, intellectual and fair traits of others.

Venus in Scorpio: People with this placement seek connections that are very close, yet there is a need for boundaries and privacy too, where secrets should not and cannot be delved into. Yet, as time passes, they may find people that bring their own worries or feelings of shame into the light, much like a liberator.

Venus in Sagittarius: These individuals seek lightheartedness and freedom in connections, where there is a kind of kindred need to collect knowledge and wisdom, a constant adventure. Restriction will not be tolerated, but they admire the comedic and inspiring traits of others.

Venus in Capricorn: People with this placement likely admire the respectful, boundary-aware and grounded elements of others, but also those with a backbone, an ambition, an ethical standard. Yet, this can also be a very tender and humorous placement, especially when initial barriers have been relieved.

Venus in Aquarius: This is a placement that seeks often modern, open, connections with an emphasis on freedom. People with this placement often admire people that really stand for something, that value morality and ethics, but also gift the space to explore and express individually.

Venus in Pisces: These individuals likely admire the spiritual and off-beat elements of others, people that tap into a new-age universe. They likely enjoy connections that are creative, innovative and aware of each others spiritual end emotional desires.

Carnelian is such a happy stone! They are known to enhance joy, creativity and motivation in a person. We love having this crystal in every room in our home and is perfect to keep in your pocket throughout the day. Its bright color and energy can be a wonderful aid this time of year when the Sun exposure is at its lowest.
The gorgeous orange/red color works with the Sacral Chakra which is the energy center for sexuality, playfulness, enjoyment of life as well as the Root Chakra. As its warm, fiery color suggests, it is a stone of action and aids in steadfastness and overcoming apathy. This is a fire element crystal and is perfect as a balance for those of the water signs.

Normally we empower our demons by believing they are real and strong in themselves and have the power to destroy us. As we fight against them, they get stronger. But when we acknowledge them by discovering what they really need, and nurture them, our demons release their hold, and we find that they actually do not have power over us. By nurturing the shadow elements of our being with infinite generosity, we can access the state of luminous awareness and undermine ego. By feeding the demons, we resolve conflict and duality, finding our way to unity.
