spirited:

I go to a very large dnd session that is split up into about 4 groups-

One little kid in the group next to us, suddenly yelling: THIS IS NO PLACE FOR DRAGONS!! NO DRAGONS HERE!! KILL THEM ALL!!!! KILL THEM!!

Me: oh no

Our DM: [looking at all 7 of our dragon eggs that we stole & are carting around so we could have baby dragons] this could be problematic

So I’m typically a player however I’m an aspiring author and decided to give GMing a chance. It should be noted that my players are incredibly experienced players who I have played with for 2+ years. I start them in a small tavern and everything progresses quite well and they are on their way to fight a lich (their characters are all 18+ at this point and I nerfed the lich just a bit). A few critical fails on their parts and critical hits on the liches part later and they are at an almost total party wipe leaving only the bard and the fighter left standing out of five people. And this proceeds to happen…

Female bard: can i seduce him

DM(me deciding to humor her): You can certainly try

Female bard: hey (picking up one of the various bones littering the floor) if you stop trying to kill us I have something you can “bone”

DM (face palming): sure make your role

Female bard: *Nat 20*

DM: The lich is so moved by your pick up line he decided to marry you instead of killing you

Fighter: can I be the maid of honor?

👻 Spirits and Entities 👻

The existence of paranormal entities is widely debated. Some people have direct experience with non-human and non-living beings, while some dismiss the idea as ridiculous. No matter what you believe, you have probably heard the following terms in reference to supernatural entities and while some terms seem interchangeable, these refer to specific presence.

Spirit - General term for any non-physical entity.

Ghost - The most common term used to refer to a spirit is “ghost”, but “ghost” refers only to spirits of once-living things, like humans and animals.

Poltergeist - The term  “poltergeist” refers to two kinds of supernatural activity. One involves spirits, human or otherwise, that cause havoc or chaos. These spirits often manipulate electronics and objects to elicit a reaction from the living. The second form of poltergeist haunting has to do with energies emitted from children or adolescents that manifest physically and cause chaos.

Thoughtforms - Thoughtforms are entities created by thought energy. Though they are usually created for a certain purpose, they can often develop a mind of their own and their own agendas.

Residual Hauntings - Residual hauntings are caused by leftover energy or emotions from a specific event that leaves an imprint in the physical world. These hauntings may manifest as a recurring physical events, such as a certain object being moved over and over again or a specific sound being heard with no source.

Shadow People - Shadow People are figures seen on the edge of one’s vision. They are considered to be bad omens

Parasitic Entities (Demons) - Parasitic entities (including what some refer to as Demons) are supernatural beings that feed off of the energy of a living host or victim.

Doppelgangers - Doppelgangers are spirits that appear in the form of a living person. They are known to appear to a person as themselves to warn them of their imminent death.

Guides - These spirits could have once been human, but do that is not always the case. They linger close to certain people in order to watch over them. These spirits are known to communicate with mediums.

Shield of Strahd

Background:
Been playing a Curse of Strahd campaign as a Wizard with a Paladin, a Rogue, and a Cleric who’s really persistent about praising his God. I decided it would be funny to enchant the cleric’s shield with magic mouth in Strahd’s voice yelling “Shut up!” every time he praised his God. I did this in secret, so only the DM knows.

Cleric: Praise Lathander
DM: Do you say that out loud?
Cleric: Yes
DM: You hear Strahd’s voice from your shield. “Shut up!”
Cleric: Really?
Paladin: Holy shit! Your shield has a direct portal to Strahd!

The Paladin took the shield from the Cleric until they could take it to a church.
They still don’t know what really happened.

May I ask a question? Please forgive my ignorance (which I know is born of white privilege) but what exactly is cultural appropriation? Isn't it a good thing to share in and experience cultures other than one's own? At what point is the line crossed into something negative?

Hi there! You can see my posts on the topic here:

Friendly reminder that it is not okay to shame anyone of any path for wanting (or even, dare I say it, needing) compensation for their spiritual services. I’m sure I speak for more than myself when I say that we do sympathize with those of you who are struggling financially. Know what? A lot of us are right there with you (and it’s not for you to judge who is and isn’t enough in need). We sell our skills for many reasons. Not in the least because our time and energy has inherent value.

On that note, I apologize for this extra pinch of salt, but no, “you have a normal body, so use it” will never be an acceptable thing to say to someone who has just politely denied your demand request for free services. Honestly, how dare you assume anything about a person’s body? This just in: regardless of any truth or assumption, you are not entitled to anyone’s talents. You do not own a single diviner, conjurer, or advice blogger in this community. If hearing that upsets you, kindly return to the sewer system from which your manners were born because I have nothing left to say to you.

Anyways. To end this on a positive note, shout out to the people in this community who go above and beyond to encourage each other’s work in any way they can. You guys are awesome and appreciated. <3
