Small Candle Spells

Not every witch has the means to collect tons of exotic ingredients.   Sometimes, all you have is a candle and a wish.  So, I have put together 10 small candle spells.  (The types of candles I am talking about are tea lights or small, tapered little fellas.  Relatively cheap and easy to use!)  Hope this becomes a resource for you all!  Let’s get started!  <3 Salt


BLACK CANDLE:  Protection

You will need:

  • One Black Candle
  • Sheet of Paper
  • Pen/Pencil

Spellwork:

  • Write down what it is you wish to protect, be it your home, your family, yourself, etc.
  • Light the candle.
  • Chant the following ten times:

By the time this black candle has waned,
the blessing of protection be gained
by all that fall beneath its wax
be safely guarded from attack.
Until the next waxing moon appears,
protect all that I have written here.

  • Allow the candle to burn completely down and the wax to spread across the paper. 
  • Fold it and keep it until the next waxing moon.
  • Repeat as often as needed.

WHITE CANDLE:  Spirit Communication

You will need:

  • One White Candle
  • Photo of the Person you wish to speak to

Spellwork:

  • Before bed, light the white candle and focus on the flame.  Let’s its warmth ignite the love you feel for the person you wish to communicate with.
  • Say their name allowed.  Speak of the memories you have with them.  Let the memory of them come to life in your mind.
  • When you are ready, recite the following spell:

Before I rest my head for the night,
I ask that my heart’s call to you,
(say their name), be answered.
In dreams, let us be together again
and share the embrace of love.
I await your visit
and, for it, you have my deepest thanks.

  • Blow out the candle and visualize their face in your mind’s eye.
  • Once the wax has cooled, place it and the picture together near your bed.  You are free to sleep.  Enjoy the visit!

PINK CANDLE:  Self-Love

You will need:

  • One Pink Candle
  • Piece of paper (cut into a heart shape)
  • Pencil or pen

Spellwork:

  • On the heart paper, write down the positive aspects and assets you have.  It can be anything (from pretty eyes to being compassionate.)  Fill up the paper and fold it into a half heart.
  • Hold it in your hands and shut your eyes.  Deeply breathe, and focus on your pulse and the things you wrote.  Focus on yourself.
  • Recite the following incantation:

I am who I am
flawed, challenging, human
I am who I am
soulful, in communion with the universe
I am who I will be
ever-changing and growing
And I bow to the purpose that resides in me.

  • Light the heart paper on fire, allow it to turn to ash, and blow out the candle.
  • Anoint your forehead and the center of your chest with hearts made of ash.  Meditate on the self and what your purpose might me.
  • Anytime you feel the need to revisit self-love, use the ashes and light the candle again.

PURPLE CANDLE:  Accessing Gifts and Talents

You will need:

  • One Purple Candle

Spellwork:

  • On the night of the New Moon, sit in a quiet, dark room.  Light your candle and concentrate on expelling all the static energy from your mind.  
  • Focus on your the gifts you would like to explore.  An example?  If you are drawn to Tarot, have your deck nearby and envision yourself shuffling the cards.
  • Repeat the following chant 13 times:

My mind is clear, my heart is too
Reveal my gifts, deep and true

  • Open your eyes and stare into the flame.  Let the fire of inspiration illuminate the talent you want to access.
  • Invoke the gift by whispering:

On this night, and all nights to come,
I will open myself to this ancient power
and allow discovery of my true potential.

  • Blow out the candle and keep by your bedside.  When you practice a gift or talent, light it until there is no more wax.

ORANGE CANDLE:  Calling Your Inner Child

You will need:

  • One Orange Candle
  • Divinatory Tool (Suggest: Tarot or Oracle cards)

Spellwork:

  • Light the orange candle and begin shuffling your cards.
  • When you feel that you have shuffled enough, hold the cards in your hand and focus on the flames.
  • Say the following spell:

Bring future to past
with this candle’s light
and provide for me
childish insight.
One card to tell me of my woes,
another about the child within,
a third cast to bring us together
so that we may begin again.

  • Draw three cards.  The first will represent your position right now (who you are and what you have been going through); the second will represent your inner child and what insights they can provide through their innocence.  The third and final card will show you what will happen if you allow the present you and your inner child join together.
  • Light the candle whenever you need guidance from your inner child again.

LIGHT BLUE CANDLE:  Fortune and Glory

You will need:

  • One Light Blue Candle
  • Money (coins or paper money)
  • An Award or piece of Recognition (trophy, certificate, etc.)

Spellwork:

  • Anytime on a Sunday (the day where workings for wealth, achievement, goals, and promotions correspond), place your candle between your representations of fortune and glory.
  • Put one hand on each item, and say:

I humbly ask for the Universe and all the powers within it to look upon these representations of fortune and glory.  I light this candle to honor you and ask for the following blessings…

  • Light your candle and return your hands to rest on your items.  Recite:  

By the light of this flame,
sweet fortune I do claim.  
Wealth and wisdom I do gain.
By warmth of this flame,
glory granted to my name.
Recognition I do gain.

  • Allow the candle to burn until there is no more wax.  Collect what is left, store in a jar, and keep in a place you conduct business.

YELLOW CANDLE:  Invoking the Spirit of Air

You will need:

  • One Yellow Candle

Spellwork:

  • At 3 PM, go outside and bathe in the light of the middle of the day.  Light your candle and place it in front of you.
  • Fisting your hands, place them on either side of the candle and say the following incantation:

Here and now, I call the element of Air.  Summer breeze and roaring wind, echoing melody and lifting wings, ever-dancing.  I call you forth to infuse my intention with your swirling fits of both song and silence.  Carry my will on your back and raise my purpose into your sky.  Breath and cloud, sound and song.  Air, I call you to me.

  • Open your fists and allow for the spirit of Air to translate through your palms and into your center.
  • Let the candle burn for five minutes and then blow it out, keeping it when you need it again.

GREEN CANDLE:  Invoking the Spirit of Earth

You will need:

  • One Green Candle

Spellwork:

  • At night, go outside and bathe in the light of the moon.  Light your candle and place it in front of you.
  • Fisting your hands, place them on either side of the candle and say the following incantation:

Here and now, I call the element of Earth.  Soil of fertility and growth, fecund source of stability, stillness and health.  I call you forth to filter away all that is impure, and to stand rooted in this world.  Mountain and dust, footstep and stone.  Earth, I call you to me.

  • Open your fists and allow for the spirit of Earth to translate through your palms and into your center.
  • Let the candle burn for five minutes and then blow it out, keeping it when you need it again.

DARK BLUE CANDLE:  Invoking the Spirit of Water

You will need:

  • One Blue Candle

Spellwork:

  • At twilight, go outside and bathe in the light of the fading sun.  Light your candle and place it in front of you.
  • Fisting your hands, place them on either side of the candle and say the following incantation:

Here and now, I call the element of Water.  Tranquil and powerful, rippling and deep, abundant resource of life.  I call you here to infuse my intention.  Wash my will in your flow, carry my purpose on your current.  Dewdrop and lake, clarity and storm.  Water, I call you to me.

  • Open your fists and allow for the spirit of Water to translate through your palms and into your center.
  • Let the candle burn for five minutes and then blow it out, keeping it when you need it again.

RED CANDLE:  Invoking the Spirit of Fire

You will need:

  • One Red Candle

Spellwork:

  • At sunrise, go outside and bathe in the light of the new dawn.  Light your candle and place it in front of you.
  • Fisting your hands, place them on either side of the candle and say the following incantation:

Here and now, I call the element of Fire.  Heat and flame, passion and love, anger and wildfire.  I call you forth to burn away all that impedes my highest vision and to enact change in the world.  Lightning and hearth, heart and forge.  Fire, I call you to me.

  • Open your fists and allow for the spirit of fire to translate through your palms and into your center.
  • Let the candle burn for five minutes and then blow it out, keeping it when you need it again.
Kin without Ableism

Identifying as otherkin or having kintypes can be a fantastic coping mechanism or a spiritual belief, however, neither coping nor spirituality are exempt from potentially being ableist.  

Please don’t:

  • Use the word “system” to describe your collection of kintypes. This is a word used by people with Dissociative Identity Disorder to describe the collection of identities severe childhood trauma split off. This is not appropriate to use for kin. This especially goes for alter- alters are trauma-split identity fragments in DID, not kintypes. I’d prefer you not use “headmates” either, regardless of what kin experiences you’re using the word to describe, there’s probably a better word to use.
  • Use the word fronting to describe kinshifts. Instead of, “Keith is fronting right now,” please try “I’m kinshifting Keith,” “I’m really feeling Keith right now,” etc. Fronting is related to alters and DID. It’s not appropriate to use for kin. 
  • Claim amnesia between kinshifts. Kinshifts are shifts of your identity, how you feel, how you react to situations. You shouldn’t have memory issues or a different core identity between kinshifts, and if you do, you need to seek professional help because you could be having seizures or another serious issue. 
  • Intentionally fracture off parts of yourself or treat specific kintypes as “not you.”
  • Diagnose your kintypes with mental illnesses and claim to have those mental illnesses because of kintypes. If you feel like you might have a severe mental illness, it’s up to you to cope with that and work on feeling better. 
  • Equate kin memories to repressed memories or “true” body memories. If a part of your spirituality is believing in past lives and you have memories of your kintypes, that’s great! However, equating it to recovered trauma memories, body memories (things you’ve experienced in this lifetime), etc is ableist. 
  • Don’t take up trauma survivor’s spaces based on kin memories of trauma. If you have a kintype that’s survived CSA, you may not claim space as a CSA survivor unless you’ve experienced that trauma in this body/life. If you have repressed trauma, it could present as nightmares and you could misinterpret that as kin memories. If you have nightmares of trauma or think you have traumatic kin memories, it’s definitely worth looking into with a therapist. You could be recovering memories and it would be damaging to cast them aside as kin memories. 

Please do:

  • Seek professional help if kintypes make you feel worse. If you feel out of control, if you feel like kintypes are controlling you or hurting yourself/others, if you feel disconnected from reality, if you have vivid or traumatic kin memories, if you have hallucinations/delusions, if kintypes make you feel worse instead of better at any point, please seek professional help. There could be something else going on.
  • Do educate yourself on the differences between tulpas, soulbonds, kintypes, etc and alters. Fictives (fictional introjects) are a type of alter, which again are specific to DID. Alters are split off from severe childhood trauma, and fictives are just alters who have similar grounded identities to that of fictional characters. This is not equatable to kintypes, IDs, soulbonds, etc. 
  • Listen to members of marginalized groups and keep your coping and spiritual beliefs free of ableism, racism, transphobia, etc!
  • Use your kintypes to make yourself a better person! It can be a powerful coping tool and a powerful tool for spirituality! If you’re using kin to cope with trauma, mental illness, everyday life, etc, that’s great. I’m pro-kin, just not pro-ableism and silencing of trauma survivors!


Kintypes are not the same as alters. The core difference is that kintypes are you, whereas alters are split from severe dissociation and trauma and are not you. It’s disrespectful and ableist to equate these. 

Most of the time, kintypes and related beliefs and behaviors can be changed and directed. If your behavior is ableist, racist, or unhealthy for you, it can be changed for the positive! Coping behaviors and spiritual beliefs are not exempt from criticism.

Welcome to another Billdip Collab! This is Billdip; Summer Memories, which aims to collect a scrapbook type of output.

CONCEPT: Bill compiles polaroids of a summer spent with Dipper and turns it into one big scrapbook which he then gives to the twins on their birthday.

INFO:
- any artist may join and submit art
- any artist may submit up to three polaroids (one is minimum, three is maximum)
- artworks must be in the following dimensions: 1:1, 16:9, or 4:5 and must be at least 800px800p, 1280px720p, or 800pX1000p in resolution
- the artwork format is like an actual polaroid, meaning backgrounds will be required. Highly detailed backgrounds are encouraged but not required. The characters in the polaroids may be smiling or posing for the picture or caught off-guard in a candid pose.
- although this is a Billdip prompt, your drawing doesn’t necessarily have to be romantic. Remember that the concept is that Bill compiled this scrapbook for Dipper, so it may be Dipper caught in an embarrassing situation with friends, or spending time alone with Bill
- you may draw triangle Bill or your own image of human Bill
- strictly no nsfw
- if you are submitting multiple artwork, try to make them as varied as possible instead of drawing three polaroids of characters in the same situation
- try to include Dipper in all the polaroids unless the situation calls for him to be out of the shot. If possible, include a supplemenary polaroid showing where Dipper is. (supplementary polaroids will be included in the three count)
- Do NOT submit a polaroid formatted submission, as in a pic with the white border. We will format your submissions into polaroids ourselves, so submit the original drawing only.
- Also, the cast will be aged up for the drawings. Dipper and Mabel should appear between 18-21 years old in the drawings. Other characters should be aged up accordingly.

THEME FOR DRAWINGS:

- forest adventures
- heck if you want to make a polaroid about weirdmaggedon don’t let me stop you
- platonic Billdip or pure billdip is a-ok. Please do not draw other ships so as to avoid any conflict.

- Deadline of submission is July 31, 2017. We need approximately a month to compile all the works. The final output will be uploaded on August 31, the twins’ birthday. Submissions past July 31 will no longer be accepted.
- Submit a short caption accompanying each polaroid you submit! Limit it to one sentence if possible, and remember that the captions were written by Bill. Examples would be “Pine Tree makes the cutest screams when I pop out of nowhere” or “Knew there was a reason Shooting Star is the alpha twin!”
- Upload your work on any image sharing website such as imgur or imgbox or even mediafire if needed for max resolution. Send the link to me, @masterdipster as soon as possible.
- Submit your signature along with your artwork! These will all be compiled and put on the last page! Send them in .png format, like below

Ok so last time I watched AotC I kind of noticed that even though Anakin is very deferential to authority. there actually were a couple of times where Anakin is openly defiant and contradictory of Obi-wan. But Obi-wan seems a bit taken aback by it, implying that that’s not typical behavior for Anakin.
And those handful of instances, mind you, are in the presence of a Padme, right when they meet up again.
The only time Anakin was outwardly rebellious was when he was trying to impress Padme by, subconsciously or not, showing her that he wasn’t a slave anymore. And he does seem kind of guilty about it, like he knows he shouldn’t be talking back but he just really wants to prove to her that he can.

Analyses: Transgender Slam Poetry

As well as written poetry, it is important to look at spoken word, or slam poetry, because it allows trans authors to convey their poetry in an even more tangible way. Having an audience present works to reify the ideals of community and solidarity. Underlining unity is powerful, both within the trans community and for the purpose of coalition building, moving toward support that goes beyond the art world.


In the introduction to the Transgender Studies Reader, “(De)Subjugated Knowledges,” Susan Stryker discusses the language of gender and the ways in which material determinism permeates Western culture. She states, “The relationship between bodily sex, gender role, and subjective gender identity are imagined to be strictly, mechanically, mimetic – a real thing and its reflections” (Stryker 9). Transgender studies challenges this idea, focusing on social construction through language and cultural narratives.

All three of these poems interact with this idea of sex, gender roles, and gender as it is experienced being lumped together. Such a fabrication leads to the assumption of other individuals’ gender identities, as the person doing the assuming attempts to make sense of an expression that does not fit their binary philosophy.

“How to Love Your Body in 10 Easy Steps” by Ollie Schminkey

It is immediately clear in the first few lines that this poem grapples with mental health, as Schminkey’s first step involves unhealthy eating habits: “eating less will make you feel as if you have control.” They also talk about binding in unhealthy ways in order to “trick yourself into feeling complete.” Without societal acceptance and the supposed stability of the gender binary, the search for control of the self and self-image can manifest in potentially dangerous ways.

Schminkey describes the impact of rejection, “Man, woman, whatever./You are the whatever.” Outside of the binary, people are essentially dehumanized and labeled deviant. This creates a hostile environment where dysphoria may take its root. The poem continues, “Do not call it what it is/do not call it transgender/do not say dysphoria/just say depression, no qualifier” (Schminkey). Calling it dysphoria is to recognize a problem stemming from society and normative standards of gender expression, beauty, and so on. With this poem, however, Schminkey calls attention both to the condition of dysphoria and to its silencing.

“Ritual” by Muggs Fogarty

Fogarty talks about material determinism extensively in this poem. “What parts of you are heavy with fluid?/which direction do your shirt buttons button?/where do your glands swell?” These lines refer to the ways society writes gender on bodies without asking, only concerned with fitting physical appearance into socially constructed category. They use repetition to signify the numerous instances they have been asked for their name assigned at birth, as if the listener hears their poetry and continues to ask, looking for “gender lies,” some trace of inauthentic expression (Fogarty).

When referring to binding their breasts, Fogarty declares, “I was so afraid others would notice their absence, especially if they had never noticed mine.” This makes more powerful the message the poet is delivering, that bodies are more valued than the minds, expressions, and identities that they hold. Especially in reference to the commodification and objectification of women, this poem is relevant to trans studies in its critique of society’s attention to the presence or absence of certain anatomical characteristics in determining gender judgments.

“A Letter to the Girl I Used to Be” by Ethan Smith

In this poem, Smith reconciles the memory of himself and his dreams growing up with the reality of his current life and the ways in which those dreams have shifted. He begins by addressing his former self – using his name given at birth. This serves as a way to separate himself wholly from the person he was before transitioning. He speaks of memories told to him by his father which he does not remember, but moves on to discuss family, which complicates the narrative of the poem. As he describes beginning hormone therapy, Smith expresses, “I thought about your children, how I wanted them too.” His desire for children is separate from his gender expression, yet the way that bodies are looked upon by society produces a dissonance, dysphoria. In order for his body to fit within norms for his experienced gender, he no longer retains the ability to produce life, something that had been precious to him. In saying this, Smith removes trans bodies from a pathologized and objectified space and focuses on a future oriented one, where trans-identified people express the desire for new families of their own. He validates that struggle and represents narratives different from the fight for recognition in one’s current family, which is usually the only family related issue discussed in such a context.

At the end of the poem, after telling of his former struggles with mental health – “In therapy you said you wouldn’t make it to twenty-one. You were right” – and coming to terms with his gender expression, Smith provides an optimistic viewpoint. He affirms there was and still is a place for the memory of himself growing up, ending with “P.S. I never hated you” (Smith).
