Yo FUCK MONTREAL’S NEW BILL. This dog has done more for me in the few months she’s been in my care than any human has ever done. She is kind, she tender, she is playful, and she is loving beyond belief. She has made so many people around me so happy, and I do not want to think about where I’d be without her. She is not a killer, but Montreal is about to be. All dogs can be good dogs. And my dog is a great dog. I stand with the SPCA on combatting anti pit bull laws and euthanasia in Montreal.

Louisiana SPCA needs help with animal rescue operations.

The Louisiana SPCA is currently assisting the Louisiana State Animal Response Team (LSART) with animal rescue efforts in the recently flooded areas of southeastern Louisiana, and are requesting assistance from the public.

As of now, what the need most are supplies. As the floodwaters recede, the influx of animals to local shelters is only going to increase, and many shelters will not have adequate supplies following this flooding disaster. There are currently three drop off locations for pet supplies in New Orleans: Canine Connection, Camp Bow Wow Mid-City and Demo Diva.

Immediate supplies needed include:

  • Metal buckets with clipping carabiners
  • Wire pet cages in various sizes
  • Leashes
  • Unopened dry cat and dog food
  • Metal water bowls

Anyone requesting assistance with animals in flood conditions should first contact their local animal control agency. If they cannot be reached, contact LSART at lsartinfo@gmail.com. Please include where the animal is located, the number of animals needing assistance, whether the animal is confined or free roaming, and the contact information for the person reporting the stranded animals.

If you find a lost pet, please bring them to your nearest animal shelter.

If you would like to make monetary donations, please consider donating directly to local animal shelters:

If you would like to volunteer with the animal rescue efforts, please go to lasrt.org/volunteers and complete the volunteer form.

Please sign the petition to demand justice for Cecil!

Tell Zimbabwe to stop issuing hunting permits to kill endangered animals!

The hunters reportedly lured Cecil out of Hwange National Park, where it is illegal to kill wildlife, at night. Cecil was shot with a bow and arrow. The wounded lion didn’t die until 40 hours later, when the hunters tracked him down and shot him with a rifle. They then skinned and beheaded him. The Zimbabwe Professional Hunters and Guides Association confirmed that Cecil was killed outside the park on private land, and an investigation is ongoing into the legality of the hunt.

The legend of Cecil started about three and a half years ago, when the then-10-year-old lion was kicked out of his pride, beaten by younger, more powerful males. Hunters argue that as loners, prideless male lions aren’t as important to sustaining lion populations.

But Cecil wasn’t finished. He soon teamed up with another lone male named Jericho, and the lions regained control of the region’s two prides, one of which consists of three lionesses and seven cubs under seven months old.

The loss of Cecil most likely spells the end of Jericho’s reign, and the possible loss of the pride’s cubs. Jericho, as a single male, will be unable to defend the two prides and cubs from new males that invade the territory. This is what we most often see happening in these cases. Infanticide is the most likely outcome.

This cannot be happening to this lovely young girl?! She just gave birth and is now at the shelter in Baltimore, MD (BARCS). A kill shelter is no place to raise a young family. She URGENTLY needs a rescue/foster home to take her. Please do not delay. She is apparently a beautiful and loving young cat. Email: rescue@baltimoreanimalshelter.org

Cheetah is a rockstar mom. She is currently caring for her 8 babies in the shelter, who are just 2 weeks old. Cheetah is super sweet and doing her best to keep up with her little ones. She was surrendered to the shelter because the owner couldn’t care for the family. She is about 2 years old, 6 lbs, UTD on vaccines and FeLV/FIV negative.

Montreal Just Delivered A Death Sentence To Thousands Of Dogs
For animal people. Pass it on.
By Christian Cotroneo

“City councillors in Montreal just signed a death warrant for thousands of dogs in the Canadian city.

At a council meeting on Tuesday afternoon, legislators voted in 37 to 23 favor of breed-specific legislation, effectively outlawing any dog that resembles a pit bull — unless owners meet a strict set of conditions.

But pit bull-type dogs currently in city shelters need not apply. Under the ban — which loosely covers American pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers and Staffordshire bull terriers — no dog considered a pit bull can be adopted from Montreal shelters.

“For dogs that don’t have an ‘owner’ on the day of the passing of the legislation, the way the legislation is drafted, the dogs have to be euthanized,” Alanna Devine, of the Montreal SPCA, told The Dodo last week.”

Please sign the petition, write to the mayor, DO SOMETHING. Pit bulls have done nothing wrong except to be what they are!!

Montreal SPCA taking city's controversial pit bull bylaw to court
Animal welfare agency wants sections on 'pit bull-type dogs' declared illegal

Montreal’s SPCA will ask the Quebec Superior Court to review the city’s new animal control bylaw in a bid to have the sections targeting “pit bull-type dogs” declared illegal.

The SPCA said the action will be presented at the Montreal courthouse on Thursday.

The bylaw, which will ban new ownership of pit bulls and pit-bull type dogs, was passed by city council on Tuesday, and goes into effect Oct. 3.

But the SPCA wants the sections of the new bylaw concerning “pit bull-type dogs” declared illegal on the following grounds:

  • It discriminates by creating additional and punitive obligations for owners and guardians of pit bull-type dogs, which the SPCA argues are not dangerous.
  • It is “vague and imprecise” in its definition of pit bull-type dogs and makes it “impossible to know which dogs fall into this category.”
  • It fails to include a means to challenge the designation of a dog as a pit bull-type breed.
  • It contravenes Article 898.1 of the Civil Code of Quebec, which grants animals the status of sentient beings, as well as sections of the Animal Welfare and Safety Act.
  • It is unreasonable that the bylaw treats all pit bull-type dogs as dangerous dogs despite what the agency says is the lack of credible evidence that they are inherently dangerous.

Animal rights advocates have criticized the bylaw, pointing out that many cities that have implemented similar legislation have since repealed the laws.
