Southern Fried Comics Picks of the Week–Wednesday, August 15th

Pick One:
Before Watchmen: Rorschach #1
Written by Brian Azzarello
Art by Lee Bermejo

Barry said: “If you’ve been on the fence about Before Watchmen, Rorschach is about to knock you off it.”

Taylor said: "Azzarello/Bermejo is the DC Dream Team for me. They bring the absolute perfect tone to Rorschach, thematically and visually. Rorschach #1 definitely knocked Minutemen out of the top spot for my favorite Before Watchmen series.“

Pick Two:
Revival #2
Written by Tim Seeley
Art by Mike Norton

Barry said: "If I can’t watch new episodes of Twin Peaks, I’ll read Revival.”

Pick Three:
Saga #6
Written by Brian K. Vaughan
Art by Fiona Staples

Barry said: “Vaughan’s ideas amaze me. Rocketship Forest? Yes, please.”

Taylor said: “I’ve enjoyed Saga from the beginning, and issue six keeps the perfect pace for readers.  Things are still exciting and the plot is hurtling forward, characters– both new and old– are getting more compelling, and the story is heading towards a new, exciting direction.”

Pick Four:
Victories #1
Story and art by Michael Avon Oeming

Barry said: “Is it wrong that I was rooting for the villain?”

Taylor said: “I picked this up out of sheer curiosity– there was a Batman-looking character on the cover, so that was enough to convince me.  The payoff was totally worth it.  If the beautiful art doesn’t do it for you, how about a storyline that could go in literally any direction? The unpredictability of this miniseries is what makes it exciting.”
