BBC confirms: Tom Hardy ‘arrests fleeing motorbike thief'

“Actor Tom Hardy apprehended a man who had allegedly stolen a motorbike in London, police have said. The Hollywood star stepped in after two teenagers on the bike crashed into a car in Richmond, south-west London, on Sunday afternoon. They ran off before one was was grabbed by the Mad Max and Taboo star and the other was arrested by a police officer. Two 16-year-olds have been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, police said.

A Richmond Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that there were two people on a stolen moped that went through a red light and crashed into another vehicle. The males ran off and one was detained by Tom Hardy.”

“Both suspects were initially taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesman later clarified the stolen vehicle was a motorbike and one of the arrested teenagers was riding pillion. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-39703528

Update: A spokesperson for Metropolitan police relayed the following statement to EW: “In an earlier Twitter ‘direct message’ reply to a BBC reporter, a local officer named an individual as having detained a male in connection with the below incident. The arresting officer has confirmed that a number of members of the public assisted police at the scene. We do not believe that it is correct to say that any one individual detained the suspect. We are not aware of any citizen’s arrest. It is, of course, Met policy not to name informants or witnesses. We regret that the name of any individual was released via a message to the BBC.” http://ew.com/news/2017/04/25/tom-hardy-teens-stolen-motorbike-lodon/

Get your story straight, Met police… ;)

Very new pic of Tom. Not only is he clean shaven but also catching criminals in Richmond in his spare time. Tom – pictured here on Monday leaving the gym – also searched the culprit for weapons and even checked his ID

According to a witness Tom Hardy ‘switched into superhero mode’ as he performed a citizen’s arrest on the man, near his home in Richmond, south-west London.

The witness told The Sun that the 39-year-old caught the suspect after chasing him through gardens and a building site, after he and another man had crashed a stolen moped into a £50,000 Mercedes.

Arun Pullen told the paper: ‘Tom must have been walking down the road. He went off like a shot in pursuit and looked furious.

‘I asked Tom what happened and he told me he chased him through my back garden and caught him around the block – but the route was like an assault course.’

He added:  ‘It was mental – like he’d switched to superhero mode in an action movie.

‘Tom Hardy’s clearly not a man you’d mess with. I think he even checked the kid’s ID before cops took over.’

Other witnesses claimed that he told onlookers: ‘I caught the c***,’ as he finally chased him down.

You tell’em, Tom.

Stay Happy There

don’t be shy
don’t be kind
somewhere snow collects and bends the boughs of pines.

it’s alright
i will fix whatever is not the sweetness in your eyes
just sit down
please
sit down
here
at the table and we’ll talk

i know you were getting tired of my drinking
i guess I was never cut out for the coke scene
you were worried i would end up like your father and
tired of the smoke and somewhere the wind blows

we’ll see friends in brooklyn
drive south to richmond
there’s traffic on the bridge
a woman on the ledge
and everywhere the wind
everything is happening at once.

Photograph of Richmond, Virgina 1862  -This City Became The Capital Of The CSA

In the 1860 United States Census, Richmond was the 25th largest urban area in the United States, with a population of 37,910. The city had been the capital of Virginia since 1780.

In popular culture

The Charlie Daniels Band song, “Trudy”, compares the taking of Richmond by Grant with the narrator saying that he was “raking in chips like Grant took Richmond” in a poker game.

Robbie Robertson / The Band wrote ‘The night they drove old Dixie down’. One lyric refers to, ’…by May the 5th (1865) Richmond had fell, it was a time I remember oh so well’. This reflects the time it took for Southern citizens to accept the defeat, or the amount of time it took for news to reach people in Tennessee. Possibly both.
