Hi, I just went through your blog and it was mentioned once that Amsterdam and Rotterdam have beef with each other? Why is that? I'm Finnish, I don't know anything I'm sorry
North Holland: “Amsterdam was the biggest trading center of the world!”
South Holland: “Yeah, and Rotterdam is the biggest haven of Europe!”
Netherlands: “Stop it, both of you!”
((I’ll try to explain it as best as I can since I’m not from either province nor city. Both Amsterdam and Rotterdam are big haven ports in The Netherlands, the biggest ones in fact. Not only that, Amsterdam is the biggest city in North Holland, and Rotterdam is the biggest city in South Holland. The Holland provinces on their own are the most densely populated provinces in general already, so their cities are presenting an important role.
Rotterdam was bombed during WWII and had to rebuild its center to modern buildings, thanks to this it’s dubbed “ugly” for the historical buildings are gone. Amsterdam is incredibly touristic and always the first city that foreigners will go to, and thanks to that got kinda overrated. Rotterdam people are said to be rude and hooligans, Amsterdam people are said to be arrogant and snobby.
The beef between these two cities is really a debate of which one is better. The people that live in these two cities are quite fierce about it as well, the beef is very, very real and salted. Also, don’t say sorry for asking! I’m so happy you did! Thank you for asking me! ♡))
