source the artwork you post here

Besides everything that I have going on the side, I want to raise some awareness about a specific person.
I am not usually one for drama but when it concerns friends and mutuals I have VERY STRONG FEELINGS on art theft and reposting! Especially when I can help it!!

There was a post floating around here:

I instantly recognized this as Simika’s wonderful artwork and I was irritated to see it on here. Just because you put a tiny source link does not mean it is okay to repost without permission! Unless permission is explicitly given you should. not. do. it.

So I messaged this person, you can see the conversation I had with them. They seemed…… ok? Very formal, but all that did was sugar-coat their really selfish intentions. I ended up speaking with Simika about this, as you can see from the screenshot below, as they are one of my mutuals…. I got clear instructions to ask them to take it down. So I sent the screenshot. This very “formal and polite” person who “takes art theft very seriously” blocked me shortly afterwards. They did not take the post down.

… What to do? I’m furious. I cannot report artwork that isn’t my own and Simika does not know English. If maybe you can send them an ask asking them to take down the artwork… I do not suggest attacking, that is never acceptable, but there is a lesson here as well….. Just because you source does not make it okay to repost….. Especially when the artist says so.

it is such a problem, I am frustrated and unsure what to do at this point.

hey everyone,

this is a bit of a long post, but i feel this is a serious enough issue that it needs to have more attention brought to it.

some of you may be familiar with the blog furryartwork

on the outset, the blog seems relatively harmless. it posts clean furry art, citing back to the original source. seems fine. however, furryartwork:

  1. has, to my knowledge, never attained permission to post any of the artworks from the original artists
  2. takes art directly from Tumblr, only citing back to reblogs of those posts, not even the original creators

furryartwork is seemingly just trying to garner followers/reblogs off of the works of others, while being lazy and making no attempt to directly support the original artists.

but they’re linking back to the original source! i don’t see any issue with that

that’s not really a whole lot of comfort to the artist. especially since artists need to work hard in order to be able to establish themselves, and sometimes take commissions as part of their job.

both druidpup and lukiri can be found right here on tumblr.
as previously mentioned, the source links just go to reblogs of the original posts.

but check out how many notes are on that first post.
notes that didn’t go towards the original post and artist.

it gets worse.

a lot of posts furryartwork uploads come directly from the r/furry subreddit,
and since the descriptions are straight up copied from the original artwork, sometimes you get some really awful communication errors like this:

to clarify, no, furryartwork was not the original artist.

stuff like this doesn’t benefit artists in anyway. even if the intent behind the blog isn’t bad, it’s still taking the absolute cheapest and laziest route as a way to profit off the work of others, intentional or not.

artists work hard, and deserve to be rewarded for their efforts. there are many, many other blogs out there that do go out of their way to bring attention to artists: that actually source appropriately, that get permission directly from the artist, or even just reblog directly from the source and help the work to spread. what furryartwork does only discourages artists from creating new works, and that’s the easiest way to lose great talent.

please support artists. if furryartwork does come around and begin taking the time to actually support the original creators, i’ll make a followup. but in the meantime, please avoid reblogging or spreading posts made by furryartwork

I’d like for some people to take the time and look at only a portion of my great grandfather’s work that survived the war. My great grand father was Le Van De, a famous silk screen painter in Vietnam that taught as a professor in France and has had one of his pieces displayed in the Vatican. Most of his work was reclaimed by the government after Saigon fell and my family had to evacuate, sadly he did not make it to America with the rest of my family. One of my favorite paintings is called “Vietnamese Madonna with her Child” in English and is the photo above of the woman with a baby. That was my great grandmother with my great aunt. You see the South Vietnamese flag and wonder why it’s there. Le Van De was the one who revived and designed the South Vietnamese flag that flows prominently here in Houston and many other areas. The reason I made this post is because I don’t want his work to die out just because the Vietnamese government still has it. Please At least look at it and admire the legacy he has left behind. If you have any more information on him or any sources of his artwork please contact me. My family is trying to reclaim what we can that’s left of his work. Thank you.

Reposting (which is stealing art) is a huge problem in the Miraculous Ladybug fandom right now, but it shouldn’t be. This post shows that it can take less than a minute to find an artist. Everyone should always reverse image search and ask permission from the artist - no excuses.

Unfortunately, because art theft is a problem, this guide can hopefully help you find artists. Let them know when their work is posted without credit and permission.

Thanks to @portentous-offerings for letting me use Marinette and Her Romeo as an example here :)

rant about stolen art

>goes into the samurai jack tag expecting to see some cool, original stuff

>instead sees a bunch of reposted fanart w/out written permission to share

>am very disappointed

This blog is never, ever going to reblog reposted art unless it has a link to written permission from the original artist to share. Even if it has a link to the original source, it’s not going on here. That’s not proper sourcing!!! You never know the artist’s wishes, and many are uncomfortable w/ their art being shared w/out their consent or knowledge. As a content creator myself, I can understand how frustrating it can be if your art is stolen. And, yes, it is stealing if it is posted w/out the artist’s express knowledge and permission to do so. I’m also against reblogging/posting art sourced from, bc majority of the time it’s stolen work.

That also means that if you notice that I’ve reblogged stolen art here, PLEASE let me know. I’ll take it down right away. I try to be super careful when going through the tag but sometimes I won’t notice in time.

Stealing art is NOT OK! Whether it be fanart, original artwork, a gif, video, whatever, please don’t repost or share work if you know it’s not properly sourced. If you see some art on another site that’s really awesome and you want to share it w/ everyone, do this instead of reposting it w/ a link to the original source:

1. Check to see if the artist has a tumblr account. If they do, chances are their art is posted on their blog. Reblog it from there! Easy!!!

2. If they don’t, send them a message and ask if it’s OK if you can share it on here or other places! If they say yes, make sure to write that you have written permission from the artist to share in the post, and you can put a link to the screenshot of your conversation for proof. Easy!!!

3. If they say no, then DON’T REPOST IT! Enjoy the art on that site, send the link to your friends, or maybe make a post talking about their great art and put a link to their page! This way, you can bring attention to some cool art w/out stealing another’s content. Easy!!!

This post got way longer than intended, but please share this if you can! I see stolen art all the time, not just in the Samurai Jack tag, and it’s pretty upsetting, especially since it’s super easy to share someone’s art w/out stealing it. If you see some cool art but have some suspicions that it’s been stolen or reposted improperly, chances are that you’re right. Don’t take the chance!

My second compilation of the ‘Yzma is Best Princess’.  This may be my last of the series for a while. I’m moving, and as much as I love making these and the lovely messages I get, I’m spending more time then I really can afford to on something that doesn’t pay bills.  Plus the more popular these get, the more time I spend reporting art thieves :/  I still have ideas for the series, but it may be a while before I convince myself I can do them.  Thank you to everyone and especially to those who have sent me lovely messages or were kind enough to put my text/source back when it was removed.  You guys are awesome :)

Watercolors, inks and a slight digital outline.   You can find prints and original paintings from the entire series here (I posted discount codes earlier):

*Please do not remove my text/source from my artwork.  If you cannot respect the time and effort I put into these to do that, then please do not reblog at all.  Thank you!

Do you have any tips to people who want to start drawing? I really want to start but I'm afraid it will never turn out how I want it.

That’s wonderful!! Always great to hear people want to get into drawing :D

Ok here’s some things that helped me when I was starting out and I hope they’ll help you too:

Is the little "PLEASE DO NOT TAKE MY ARTWORK AND POST IT ELSEWHERE, EVEN IF YOU PLANNED ON SOURCING IT. I prefer to keep my art where I can control it, here on my art page in order to avoid art theft" recent? B/c I came here thru someone posting your art on reddit. Juuuust wondering :')

it’s been there for years.

I wanted to ask, a lot of artist have this one their art: do not republish/repost my artwork or remove my comments. I don't want to offend anyone but I don't really know what this means. If I like you art can I reblog? Add tags such as OMG this is great 👍 etc? I really love your art and I would like to know if it's ok :)

Many artists have this to deter other people from saving and posting their art on other websites/republishing it on Tumblr without the artist’s consent. Such acts are extremely disrespectful and could lead to legal issues for the artist depending on their regional laws.

That said, reblogging artwork from the original artist is 100% okay and not the same as reposting.

With reblogging, the artist is allowing you to share their work in a way that still credits them and retains their ownership of the specific piece. It’s a controlled situation that makes everyone happy. You get to share it with your friends, your family, leave comments on it, etc, and the artist still gets the recognition they deserve for their work. Reposts don’t often credit the artist and this could pose a problem for an artist if they don’t watermark or sign their work.

As artists, we love to share our work and have it be seen. Some of us earn our living through our work and need to expand our audience in order to make ends meet. Reposts misdirect that potential audience to the wrong sources with some art pieces being credited to the wrong person. Unfortunately for some artists, that could mean the difference between having sustainable income or living off of a box of kraft dinner for the next two weeks.

one of the most nefarious repost sites would be anything sourced to WeHeartIt, I personally avoid reblogging posts if it has weheartit in the source name and instead reverse-lookup the art on Google instead [find out how to do this here].

sorry if this is garbled in any way, I’ve had some memory issues as of late and haven’t always been making sense so please let me know if you’d like any further clarification!!

bottom line is;; reblogs are not the same as reposts and reblogging artwork from the original artist is literally the best possible thing you can do, so please go ahead and do it!

Listen, I can definitely appreciate the intent of this blog and was happy to see something like it recommended to me to follow-

BUT if you cannot properly source the artwork/cannot link to their original piece, you should not be reposting it.

And tagging those pieces as ‘artist unknown’ as almost the last tag doesn’t feel right either. For a moment, i was ready to think it had been a submission just based on the first tags, but than you scroll to read that… 🤔 just, please use some respect and for a moment think about the thousands of posts that go across Tumblr pleading NOT to repost art.

Mod AC here! I had no idea that Mod Mags was posting art without sourcing. I’ll talk to them about it and get them to fix it. Thank you for bringing it to our attention!

(kinda) moving blogs

Hey guys! The last ask got me thinking, and I’ve decided to change some things.

From now on I’ll post all my artworks on

This blog only contains my art and things related to it, so you don’t need to sit though all these other reblogs.

I’ll still reblog all new posts here and you’ll still be able to find all of them on my art tag, and this blog (sajwho) is still the main one for me. But the source blog for everything is now sajwho-art.

So, if you’re only here for my drawings, I highly recommend to refollow me on the new blog. Also you can check my nsfw art blog (which is mostly empty by now though)

Hi! I don't know English really well and yes, I don't really know how Tumblr works, but I think it's the right way to tell you something... True? And I hope you'll understand. Well, I just wanted to say that I love your blog. May I ask you a question? Did you draw the fan arts that are posted here? Because they're awesome!

Hello! Don’t worry, I understood you perfectly! Your english is fine ^^.

All the art on this blog is reblogged from the blogs of the original artists who drew them. I don’t draw any of the artworks myself, I just reblog them to give exposure to the artists and so other people can see them and enjoy them too.

If you check where it says “source” in the posts, (either on the dashboard or inside my blog, it doesn’t matter) you will find a link to the blog of the artist who created that artwork. Many times you can see who’s the artist in the caption too, if the post has one!

‘Yzma is Best Princess’ #15 is 'Yzmottie’.  Some may gripe that I didn’t do Tiana, but I feel like Yzma would prefer Lottie.  Watercolors, inks and a slight digital outline.  This will probably be my last for the series for a while.  You can find prints and original paintings from the entire series here (I posted discount codes earlier):

*Please do not remove my text/source from my artwork.  If you cannot respect the time and effort I put into these to do that, then please do not reblog at all.  Thank you!

You: *wants explanation*

Me: *doesn’t have one*

Umm…soo…this kinda just happened. I wanted to improve my masking skills and this was the outcome. Omg I used so many random things I wasn’t gonna post this cause I can’t technically source everything. But we have seen most of the artworks/randomness anyways. If you see an artwork in here and have a source gimme cause I feel like a terrible person >.>

Maturity? What maturity? Don’t tell me you didn’t at least giggle at hearing the most serious char in the effing anime say “pee pee”

I don’t own anything pls don’t sue me

I am so sorry if you wanna yell at me I’ll be in my room *does swan dive into dumpster*

“I am going to be posting Pyrrha artwork more on a daily basis now (alongside Blake and my other favorite RWBY heroines…) I just look at how graciously beautiful she is in this artwork and can feel the void never getting fully repaired honestly… ;_; as you can see it is still really hard for me to fully cooperate with the fact she is gone, even with the confirmations, yet here I am still aimlessly hoping, optimistically, as I always do, so if anyone wants to join me, yes, I shall be sharing wonderful Pyrrha artwork just to show some absolute appreciation throughout all the Volumes she was through ;_; though it felt way too short for me…anyway this artwork warms my heart in spite of this. Pyrrha my love why did you have to go T~T ?”

It should be a well-known fact that gourgeist (who cowardly blocked me), is an art thief who goes around various sites like pixiv, twitter, tegaki, and even artist’s personal sites to steal their pokemon artwork and put it on their tumblr. They have been doing this for a long time.

They think it’s ‘OK’ to post whatever they want, even if it could get an artist in serious trouble with the law, as long as they put on a source. They refuse to listen to reason. What happens to an artist, whether it’s fines, lawsuits, or even imprisonment, does not matter to them. They will literally steal whatever pokemon artwork they can get their hands on

I have made many psa’s about them in the past. They are very problematic to deal with. Their followers, and anyone who reblogs those so-called sourced artwork of theirs probably do not even know the disrespectful things this person has done to many pokemon artists.

Here are some cases

They do not listen to artists EVEN WHEN THE ARTIST REQUESTS their works be taken down. They keep those artworks up, even if it can get the artist in big trouble. They don’t care about anyone but their own blog.

Please, if there is anyone you know who follows/reblogs from that person, please inform them about this. In fact, both gourgeist and gottacatchemall post artworks without consulting the artists first.

Both of them has even posted artworks from artists when they already have their own tumblr, and their copy of a pokemon artwork drawn by the artist has more notes than the artist’s original post. Does that sound right to you?

Do not reblog/follow either of those two blogs. They have no respect for artists from pixiv. They take attention away from the artists, who need the most support here on tumblr for their own blogs.

about reposting...

thanks to archerqueen17 and the people who called her out for reposting tons of fanart, we were able to bring attention to that issue in the stucky fandom. i got asked about it, so i wrote down the guidelines i follow.

there are two different cases, in my opinion:

1. if the artist posted their artwork on tumblr, then you shouldn’t repost it, NOT EVER. even with credit.
there is no need for you to repost when you can simply reblog!

2. if the artist doesn’t use tumblr, but posts their art on deviantart, pixiv or other platforms, and does NOT ask for their works to not be posted on other platforms, then making a post here is okay-ish as long as you give full credit (clear statement who made it plus link to the creator’s website/source page). it would be best to ask for their permission first, tho.

a watermark is not a permission to repost or counts as credit. if you repost something watermarked, you are still using other people’s creative work for promoting your own blog without their permission, and by doing that you take away attention, praise, comments and likes from the creator.

also, if you get asked to remove your reposts, then you should do so. credit given or not. you had no right to put that art up on your blog in the first place, anyway.

i understand that some reposters don’t know that what they’re doing is wrong. they maybe just want to share art they like. it’s important to let those people know how to treat their fandom’s artists properly, and that what they are doing is wrong and very harmful to the fandom. education is the key :)

many artists and writers get discouraged or angry and feel disrespected when seeing their works reposted. to witness a reposter getting countless reblogs and notes for something you did? let me tell you: it sucks.
so don’t make those who contribute to the fandom unhappy, ‘kay?

TLDR: please respect the artists and writers and gifmakers and all the people creating stuff for the fandom to enjoy and don’t steal their stuff :)
