despair arc episode 4, again
  • seiko kimura: does nothing wrong
  • sounosuke izayoi: does nothing wrong
  • ruruka andou: technically does nothing wrong
  • nagito komaeda: does everything wrong
  • jin kirigiri: who should we expel?
  • jin kirigiri: ...
  • jin kirigiri: i think the first three
  • fandom: god fucking dammit no wonder your school was so easy to take over

I think Izayoi dying for Ruruka is explicit proof that no, Ruruka was not mind-controlling him. It’s probably been a few hours since this game started and Ruruka hasn’t fed him any candies. And yet, not only has Izayoi still gone out of his way to protect her from danger, he’s STILL happily content with dying so she can survive.

And if you’re going to try and argue “Well, maybe the mind-control lasts a long time”, then let me ask this: If he was being brainwashed, why the heck would Ruruka consider killing him at all? She would know better than anyone how long the mind-control lasts. It would be a completely pointless action on her part to kill him.

(It ended up being pointless anyway, but neither of them knew that)

So yes, Izayoi certainly loved Ruruka of his own will. And it’s certainly clear that Ruruka loved him just as much. Her loving him so much is precisely WHY the fear of betrayal was far too great for her to handle. And it’s obvious she feels intense guilt and regret from doing it.

And also, if you're seriously going to try and tell me Ruruka “deserved” being tortured, you’re far worse than she is. :)
