i’m sure i’m not the first person to notice this but i’m rewatching the show and the episode “copycat” just gets me so annoyed and irritated because of how adrien was written in that episode. this is probably the episode where we have the most blatant, explicit evidence of one of adrien’s flaws (i.e. his jealousy) and he is at no point forced to be held accountable for his actions.
adrien quite literally causes an akuma because of his jealousy. but he is not forced to apologize to theo for lying about his relationship with ladybug, he’s not forced to apologize to ladybug for lying about said relationship without her consent, and adrien himself is not allowed time in the episode to acknowledge his jealousy, find fault in it, and learn from his mistake.
adrien as a character already has this annoying habit of being presented as the “perfect boy” who very rarely makes mistakes and is idolized for it. not just by marinette. by pretty much everyone. “jackady” had this really strange scene where gabriel and ladybug were staring at adrien’s modeling shots and gushing about how “flawless” and “perfect” he is. and most of adrien’s arguably negative qualities (e.g. his occassional inability to take things seriously in battle, his naivete, his occasional impulsiveness as chat noir, etc.) are often presented in ways that either make us sympathize with his behavior or find it endearing.
“copycat” is probably one of the only (if not the only) episodes where adrien is very clearly doing something wrong. he’s angry that theo likes ladybug so much so he lies about his relationship with ladybug and tells theo they’re a thing so that he can back off and chat noir can have ladybug all to himself.
the problem is that the show doesn’t call out adrien for this jealousy. about the only time it does is when plagg makes a dig at him right when adrien realizes who the akuma is.
and despite this, adrien merely rolls his eyes at plagg and scoffs at the comment as if it’s a joke. that was the perfect opportunity for adrien to take just a few seconds to say “you’re right. i should’ve never lied and let myself get jealous. that was wrong of me.”
about the best we can get is when chat noir acknowledges that he was the one who caused the akuma so he’s the one who has to go and get himself out of it. but at no point does he tell ladybug why this happened (especially because it involves her) and at no point does he vocalize the mistake he made, i.e. the fact that he let his jealousy take over.
then this is where the episode really starts to bother me
he calls out ladybug for not showing up to the statue unveiling. they actually make chat noir take time in the middle of his screw up to basically tell ladybug “well maybe you’d know what’s going on if you showed up this morning.” ladybug had done nothing wrong in regards to this akuma. we’re dealing with her phone stealing and her bad time management on the side, but this has nothing to do with the akuma. if anyone’s mistakes should be being highlighted here, it’s adrien’s.
but the episode continues to just let adrien get away with the fact that he lied. ladybug praises chat noir for his honesty and for the fact that he’s never lied to ladybug about anything (hello, irony) and normally this would be a pretty good moment for chat noir to at least look guilty. but instead he merely thanks her for the compliment and continues fighting anyway.
and then it gets even worse because the one who apologizes at the end of the episode is ladybug!! she apologizes to theo for not showing up to the unveiling! which, fine ok, but where was adrien’s apology? where was his opportunity to explain to ladybug that he messed up for lying about their relationship, causing this akuma, and putting ladybug in danger?
it’s replaced with chat noir’s angst about his crush not being returned.
we feel bad for him at the end of this episode because his “crush was crushed.” let alone that he let his jealousy get the better of him and lied to a stranger about ladybug and his relationship behind her back. we end the episode feeling sympathy for chat noir because ladybug doesn’t feel the same way for him. mr. perfect finally has an episode where he screws up and the show does not allow him to take sufficient responsibility for it and own up to his mistake.
and it further annoys me that this happened because anytime marinette messes up, she almost always apologizes. when she didn’t listen to chloe and caused her to be akumatized? she apologized to her for not listening to her. when she yelled at lila and caused her to be akumatized because of her own jealousy? she apologized to lila for being so mean to her. marinette is continuously asked to own up to her mistakes and apologize for them (as she should) meanwhile the one time adrien screws up, he gets let off for it.
idk man, it just gets me upset that adrien got it so easy in this episode. he should’ve apologized to theo. he should’ve told ladybug the truth. he should’ve owned up to the fact that his jealousy was totally unwarranted.
slytherin needs gryffindor:
they're great thinkers, but fucking hell, they pussy out. they overthink all their decisions. they need someone to help them just push the button to their amazing plans
slytherin needs ravenclaw:
just to calm the fuck down. both of the houses stress their butts off, they get annoyed by ravenclaws when they stress, forgetting their own stress and realizing that, now they see the ravenclaws stress, their stress is not gonna solve anything
slytherin needs hufflepuff:
guys, i dont wanna follow the stereotype, but F U C K, slytherins are just way too mean and rude and need a little positivity nd genuinely nice people
gryffindor needs slytherin:
1) sexual tension 2) s e x u a l t e n s i o n 3) they can make the best plans ever, but a gryffindor seriously needs a slytherin to help them with like, take over the world
gryffindor needs ravenclaw:
just to keep their feet on the ground & their head on their shoulders when they dream TOO big
gryffindor needs hufflepuff:
to keep their heads orientated. when idea's & thought become one big blur, they need a hufflepuff to help them sort it out
ravenclaw needs slytherin:
to talk about feelings. slytherins can be very understanding and good at listening, and a ravenclaw can really need this sometimes
ravenclaw needs gryffindor:
to have a stubborn opponent. they like a tiny bit of challenge sometimes and the slytherins are just TOO determined to win, the hufflepuffs not determined enough & the gryffindors are just perfect; fun and stubborn
ravenclaw needs hufflepuff:
to have someofun. i'm really not saying that ravenclaws aren't fun, just that their fun is 10x better when with a hufflepuff. they also make sure you stay healthy in stressfull periods of time, a must for a humon body
hufflepuff needs a slytherin:
to realize fun isnt everything in life, to keep them out of their dreamworld back to reality sometimes. also because sometimes you kinda really need to get to get things done
hufflepuff needs gryffindor:
because of all the challenges they bring in hufflepuffs life and their bolder qualities allowing hufflepuffs to be less shy & more comfortable in their skin
hufflepuff needs ravenclaw:
to help them focus on little things & help them see beauty in things like WHY the stars move and how it comes the sky is bluer in spring than in summer
“You might want money. Maybe you want women. Or, you might want to protect the world. These are all common things people want. Things that their hearts desire. Greed may not be good, but it’s not so bad, either. You humans think greed is just for money and power! But everyone wants something they don’t have.”
(aaahhh sorry this took me so long! im not quite happy with it but anway here’s some cute gfs getting married)
Cosette and Eponine have been together for years now and they never really discussed the subject of marriage.
get me wrong, Cosette loves the whole idea of wearing a beautiful dress
and walking down the aisle to promise to spend her life loving Eponine
but her girlfriend never made any hints that it was something she wanted
and she doesn’t want to pressure her. It’s not like she minds - they
don’t need a wedding ring to prove their love, so she stays quiet about
Little does she know Eponine actually does want to get married
and she’s been thinking about it a lot lately, especially after
Combeferre and Courfeyrac got married a few months ago as the first ones
in their group.
But how on earth do you bring up this kind of
topic? Just proposing out of the blue is out of the question. Not if
she doesn’t know if Cosette even wants to.
“Just talk about
this like adults” Grantaire groans when she talks (read: whines) to him
about it. She raises an eyebrow and scoffs in response.
mean like you and Enjolras are?” “Shut up” She knows Grantaire has been
thinking about proposing as well, however Enjolras has always had pretty
clear opinions on marriage in the past and he’s scared of being
rejected. What a hypocrite though.
They’re having a quiet
night in, curled up on the couch together with a glass of wine, when
Eponine does take Grantaire’s advice.
“Hey Zette?” Cosette hums in reponse, her head resting on Eponine’s shoulder.
“Do you ever think about getting married someday?”
She feels the body next to her still. “yeah of course, do you?”
Eponine only nods, nervously skimming her finger over the top of her wine glass.
you ever consider getting married…to me?” Cosette sits up to look at
her but she keeps her gaze firmly on the glass, pressing her lips
“Ep, I love you. Of course I considered it! I just…you
never seemed interested in marriage and i didn’t want to scare you off”
Eponine’s head shoots back up again “I am interested though!”
“So you want to get married?” “Yes!” “Good.”
Cue them beaming at each other like the adorable lovebirds they are.
next weeks Eponine spends looking for a ring and planning the perfect
proposal because now that she knows they both want this, she can’t wait.
But in the end Cosette beats her to it by proposing first while having a
picnic in the park. It’s all sappy and perfect and they proceed to
spend the rest of the day dozing cuddled together on the blanket,
neither of them quite believing the other is now their fiancée
course all of Les Amis are ecstatic when they find out and help out
with their wedding arrangements. (Eponine may have whispered “now it’s
your turn” into Grantaire’s ear when he hugged her)
Eponine nor Cosette are one for big pompous weddings so it ends up being
a small beautiful ceremony with just their friends, Valjean and
Eponine’s siblings present (her parents are absolutely not invited).
rented a lovely little venue and there are flowers everywhere,
especially violets, white magnolias and ivy (Jehan helped a lot with
Cosette looks stunning in her lacy bohemian dress and
flowers in her hair and so does Eponine who decided to wear a dashing
tuxedo instead. Both can’t take their eyes off each other as Cosette is
led down the aisle by her father.
Both of them cry during their vows but no one’s eyes stay quite dry (even Montparnasse blinks suspiciously often)
When the officiant announces “you may now kiss the bride” Eponine dips Cosette for the big smooch.
During their first dance these two are simply glowing (imagine ‘forever with me’ by nedra johnson this song is gay jsyk)
of course dances with Cosette for the traditional father-daughter dance
whereas Eponine dances with Gavroche who keeps twirling her around to
make her laugh.
The newlyweds get home in the early morning
hours, drunkenly giggling and clinging to each other happily. Eponine is
carrying her shoes in her hands and Cosette’s cheek ended up covered
in Eponine’s lipstick during the taxi ride home.
is forgotten as soon as they’re over the doorstep and kisses turn
heated. “We do have to consumate the marriage properly”, Ep whispers
against her new wife’s lips as she guides her into the bedroom.
Perhaps the dragon did remember, but Dany could not. She had never seen this land her brother said was theirs, this realm beyond the narrow sea. Viserys had been a boy of eight when they fled King’s Landing to escape the advancing armies of the Usurper, but Daenerys had been only a quickening in their mother’s womb.
