NoMeansNo stayed at my house the night they played for Sonic Warp. They went over early as Mark and I had to tear down the sound system. We got home at 3am and went to sleep immediately. We woke up the next morning to a breakfast they made for us AND they had cleaned up the house (Filth/MDC had stayed there the night before and had trashed the house). I love those men.
Made by literally cutting and pasting images and type in 1989. Photo made using the cartography dept. camera at the U of MN. Copies made by friends at Kinkos for below market rates (i.e. beer and tickets to show).
Great show! The Funseekers killed it in their 2nd to last show. The other guys were kind of good too. Misery was our first choice for local talent but they were on the road. Keith Patterson’s surf punk genius worked out well. We had a Basil Wolverton foundation approved 3'x2’ poster for this show but none of us thought about curating fliers/posters for posterity. Every one of them may have meant one more person attending our shows.
Thank dog, somebody found the long lost video of the Fugazi show I put on through my company Sonic Warp back in 1991. I had thrown in the towel on finding it after it left my hands but it has resurfaced. Consultations with Ian are happening now. Dischord is very interested in using it. So I may or may not be able to put it online but it will be available one way or the other.
The Avalon Theater was a porn theater that was turned into the home of the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater. We had to call it the Avalon so people wouldn’t get confused about how creepy puppets can be. Perfect spot for shows. $200/night plus $75 for Charlie Bailey to make sure puppets/porn/punk rock weren’t confused with each other.
A little Emily Dickinson for stephiehell. The poem is The Inner World retitled 280 by Hullabaloo from their album It’s Not Enough to Be Loud, You have to Suck Too. I was working the door when these guys started playing at a show my production company, Sonic Warp, put on when I recognized the poem and abandoned my post for the rest of the show to watch these guys. Who knew Ms. Dickinson was so punk rock?
Reunited with an old friend, Sluggo Cawley of Hullaballoo and The Grannies on Saturday. Hullaballoo played a show with the Cows for Sonic Warp back in 1990 and we have stayed friends ever since. I am glad I was able to help these guys get a Minneapolis show.
