“Before ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ I had played a different version of kind of the same person in every movie,” he said. “It’s been a bit of a survival mechanism my whole life to kind of play the dummy, and get laughs, and goof around.” But seeing himself in that role broadened his sense of possibilities. “It was another element to myself,” he said, “that I just hadn’t seen.” [x]

Narnia Fanfiction Recs

It occurred to me during a conversation with someone recently that a lot of the people on tumblr might not know the really good fanfic that is floating on the internet. This list is by no means exhaustive. In many cases, I chose only a story or two from an author who has a bunch of other stories. If you like a work, please go look through that author’s work! But, here’s a non-exhaustive list of some of my favorites, and a few more I thought people might enjoy as well. ALSO, summaries are not mine, they were taken from the authors.

The Golden Age

By Dawn’s Early Light by Autumnia

On a distant shore, Aravis and Shasta find that morning brings more than the start of a new day.

To Everything There is a Season by Edenfalling

Ilgamuth Tarkaan was fourteen when he first rode to war. He was likewise fourteen when he pledged his life and his name to Prince Rabadash, a decision that would shape the rest of his life. Prequel to “Out of Season."

(NOTE: a really interesting examination of Calormen culture and war. Outside the realm of “typical” Narnian fanfic or really recognizable characters, fyi)

In Song and Story by Edenfalling

Edmund wants to establish a Narnian newspaper, to further the cause of truth and check the spread of lies and embarrassing songs vicious slander. Nobody else seems to understand the depth of his conviction.

Any Sentry From His Post by Edenfalling

A week after the battle of Anvard, Shasta despairs of fitting in to his new life, until a chance meeting with King Edmund of Narnia opens his eyes to new perspectives.

The Value of Sisters by Snacky

"If I had but my cordial with me,” Queen Lucy was saying, “I could soon mend this. But the High King has so strictly charged me not to carry it commonly to the wars and to keep it only for great extremities!”

The story of how well Peter’s command went over, and what Susan did to smooth things over.

Carpetbaggers by cofax

The day after Aslan left, taking the magic with him, just about everyone else left, too.

After the coronation festivities, the real work begins. During/post “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe”.

(NOTE: A really interesting, well-developed story about how the Pevensies might have started their reign. It pays a lot of attention to the idea that the White Witch and the war left a lot of issues that the Pevensies would have had to address.)

Harpsong by acrosticacrumpet

In which Aravis meets Queen Susan the Gentle, and finds more than she expected, and perhaps something she needed.

The Palace Guard by rthstewart

I promise to never cause you harm and to protect you from all ill and danger.
I give you loyalty with love, respect with fealty, and discretion with honour.
I place my body, mind and heart in service to you.
I swear this Guard’s Oath before Aslan and in His Name, until you release me, until death takes you, or the world ends.
-Guard’s Oath Sworn To Narnian Monarchs

(NOTE: features rth’s OC guards. They are excellent characters in a wonderful expansion of the Narnian universe, but they are OC, fyi. Also the origins of Jalur the tiger, if you’ve heard of him <3)

The Ivory Merchants by Heliopause

The Telmarines, westward of Narnia, were effectively blockaded by one hundred years of Winter; now like other nations, they want to take advantage of the new opening up of Narnia. Their arrival, and the gift and the news they bring, will plunge the new rulers of Narnia into a complex turmoil of politics, economics, culture clash, moral challenge and urgent rescue.

Annals of Kings by ilysia

Historians are selective in what they record; some things even kings hate to remember. Edmund knows this all too well.

  • New book tour stop! On July 12th, I’ll be in Denver, CO, at The Tattered Cover on Colfax!
  • The Mermaid Girl goes live on 5/3.
  •  The Book of Speculation paperback will be out 5/31. There’s ~bonus material~ (the short story, and I believe some lovely other things).
  • My 12-year anniversary. That has nothing to do with you. I’m just putting this here because I’m a terrible person who forgets things.
  • My bunny’s birthday. In theory this has already come and gone, but he’s none the wiser. He’s officially middle aged now. He’s been given celebratory dandelions.
  • Coffee. No, nothing particularly spectacular is happening with coffee. But it is something that happens here with alarming frequency. Coffee is an event.
  • Making pages. Or trying my very best to.

  • It’s slow out here. I live a small life.

And just like that the Steve/Tony/Bucky ship is a thing in this universe too.

🌊✨On my way to becoming a mermaid✨🌊

I’m just trying to find someone super hot and successful. Who’s into vicious sarcastic humor, and isn’t afraid to say exactly what he wants. Someone who’s down to travel, everywhere. Who wouldn’t mind camping. Who won’t tease me too badly about my love for spaghettios. Who loves lives shows.
We’d have our own little apartment with a dog named Vader or Luke. Hell, in my world, we’d have both. We’d host game nights with our circle of friends cramped in our living room overflowing with laughter and warm bodies, staying up until obscene hours, well past the acceptable age to do so. We’d never stop going out to bars, or going on zoo dates, taking time to visit the drive in movie theater, or catching movie premieres. Some days we’d get home from nights at bars with friends too wired to sleep, and someone would remember the light sabers. We’d probably break something, but it wouldn’t matter. Because we’d be in love. We’d have our apartment and our dogs. We’d have a good life. We’d be happy.

Virgil you suck at this. Let me steer.

It’s not the first time Kayo’s jumped on his back and taken over the umbrella and it probably won’t be the last.

cullen must miss his family soooo much, but what if Josephine and Leliana are acting as his sisters and cheer him up! <3

In the meantime, this same guy condoned and participated in kidnapping children from their families, Leliana just lost her mentor, and Josie, too, is miles away from her own family, which also struggles financially at the moment, and simultaneously has to deal with people plotting against them and trying to assassinate her.

But I, a person who went into Josephine’s tag, am supposed to feel bad about that guy not seeing his family for some time, okay cool.
