sometimes science isn't very romantic

It’s probably a good thing I didn’t read this bit about the origins of kissing possibly resting in pre-masticated feeding behaviour between mothers and babies (“kiss feeding”) while I was writing The Progress of Sherlock Holmes. There is no way I could have resisted adding that tidbit of biological theory into the flotsam and jetsam of Sherlock’s thoughts during a first kiss scene, which probably would have grossed out every single reader.

And yet I still kind of regret that it’s not there.
