someone might like this kind of thing

Hey guys I am sorry if sometimes I “state the obvious” about things? Like, we autistics tend to do that without realizing it sometimes and I am by no means trying to be condescending or whatever. It’s just… a thing. That we do. We don’t realize it comes off as rude or anything. I dunno, it often doesn’t hit me until someone says it that it comes off any kind of way, but… I just, after more than 20 years of being this way, I’m not really sure how I can change this part of me so it might just be a thing I do from time to time that you have to put up with. :/ Sorry

How to treat artist: on tumblr
  • don’t rush them to draw something. if you want something drawn fast, do it yourself.
  • don’t like their style? whatever, it’s your opinion. but don’t tell them its bad!
  • if you like something they drew, then TELL THEM! PRAISE THEIR WORK! artist need every bit of motivation.
  • constructive criticism is always good, but don’t flat out tell them they suck.
  • everyone has their own style. if they draw a certain character a bit different than you want it to look, then that’s ok. don’t like it, again, DRAW IT YOURSELF
  • if they are asking for payment for request or commissions, DON’T COMPLAIN!! artist need money just like everyone else, and art supplies are very expensive!
  • if they try a new art style DON’T TELL THEM THEY SHOULD JUST STICK WITH WHAT “THERE GOOD AT” that’s just plain rude. period.
  • don’t hate an artist just because they only draw one thing, or draw all kinds of things. unless your paying them real hard CASH to draw for you, then you don’t have a say on what they are doing. actually…
  • UNLESS YOU PAY THEM, YOU CANT TELL THEM WHAT TO DO AT ALL. PERIOD. END OF STORY.
  • TREAT THEM LIKE HUMANS. NOT MACHINES. they need to eat, sleep, and mess around just like everyone else. give them a break.
  • ART IS ART, WRITING, DRAWING, PAINTING, IT’S ALL ART! Don’t tell someone writing isn’t art, or singing, or painting, IT’S ALL A FORM OF ART!!
  • artist are consistently improving. just because they might not be all that great now, does not mean they wont improve! stick by them, encourage them, no matter what!
  • EVERYONE HAS THAT ONE WORK. every artist has that one piece of art that sucks, alright? EVERYONE. so, don’t judge an artist just by their one work of art that isn’t as good as the rest. we all mess up.
  • and lastly, JUST TREAT THEM LIKE HUMANS, OK???????

reblog this so others can see, how to treat artist.

His magnetic field to strong and powerful. And you’ll love his air of mystery and excitement.

• Venus in Sagittarius: You’ll fall for someone who is fun, loving, exciting, wise, adventurous, and mature. The foreign professor, the traveller. When you fall for him, it’ll feel like the sun rising over the meadow on a dewy summer morning. Warm, and enlightening. Like the mist in the forest, spreading all over the landscape.

• Venus in Capricorn: You’ll fall for someone who is stable, mature, wise, logical, protective, mysterious, and classy. The man. Like a flower in the ground, blossoming, your love for him wil blossom into a beautiful flower on stable ground. He’ll be your rock. • Venus in Aquarius: You’ll fall for someone who is unique, original, intelligent, bizarre, spontaneous, and eccentric. The intellect. The rebellious leader. When you meet him you’ll be intrigued and impressed. He’s like a cult leader. You’ll fall in love with his mind and ability to lead an army of justice. You’ll feel powerful with him. And you’ll feel hope for the future, and what has yet to come.

• Venus in Pisces: You’ll fall for someone who is genuine, sweet, intuitive, caring, gentle, wise, and healing. You’ll be pulled in by the mysterious and unique persona, almost like crystal ball, it’s clear. When you fall in love it’s like a starry night. • The 2nd house: You’ll meet them while shopping. Or though connections. Somewhere related to money, but in a classy way.

• The 3rd house: You’ll meet them somewhere you go often. They might be a neighbour, co-worker, classmate, friend of a sibling, etc.

• The 4th house: You’ll meet them at your home. It might be a family friend, childhood friend, or someone from your past.

• The 5th house: You’ll meet them at the local theatre, the cinema, the club, art class, amusement park, anywhere related to art, creativity, hobbies or fun.

• The 6th house: You’ll meet them at work or at school. Maybe at the dentist or at the doctor’s office.

• The 7th house: You’ll meet them while doing charity. Or in some stereotypically romantic way. You might drop your purse, and he’ll swoop down to help you pick it up, and you’ll touch hands and fall in love.

• The 8th house: You’ll meet them at the morgue or the strip club. Or both. Jk, you’ll meet them at a fancy restaurant or party.

• The 9th house: You’ll meet them while travelling or at church. The library maybe.

• The 10th house: You’ll meet them at work. Or somewhere connected to work. Maybe at a job trip, someone from another office, a boss or a competitor.

• The 11th house: You’ll meet them through your friends. A friend of a friend. Or a friend. If you’re lucky, maybe even your crush!

• The 12th house: You’ll meet them while being out in the nature. Hiking, jogging, walking. Anything connected to the elements. A cabin in the woods, on boat, by the bonfire or the grill, or on a plane or bridge.

Venus in aspects to the Planets:

• Moon - Venus: You live for love. You feel love and beauty in every inch and limb or your body. You love decorating yourself and your home in order to feel good and beautiful.

• Mercury - Venus: You are quite the sweet-talker. You could talk anyone into anything. You love music and poetry. You love PDA and express your love through words and actions. Quite publicily.

You have a high sex appeal, and people are fascinated by you. When they meet you, they feel like someone threw a heavy stone on their stomach.

like i honestly really miss the early days of internet fandom when discourse over shipping wasn’t a fucking thing. i grew up in that time period, i was raised on the mantra “don’t like, don’t read,” and so were millions of other people.

guess what, we turned out fine, reading/writing/being exposed to problematic ships didn’t turn us into rapists and murderers, that’s not how it works. we were (and still are) perfectly capable of distinguishing between actual abusers/criminals and regular people who had a firm grasp on fiction vs. reality.

y’all have just kind of. made up. this idea that consuming/creating odd or problematic content makes someone a bad person and will slowly rot their mind over time. that’s 100% made up. like. it’s not a real thing, guys. it wasn’t even a fake thing when i was growing up (although people did make the same argument against violent media around that time), it wasn’t any kind of thing. no one gave a fuck what you shipped unless it was their notp, then maybe they might start a shipping war over which ship was superior (or just send you a nasty message).

shipping wasn’t some weird battle of moral superiority, it was just fiction. it’s still just fiction, only now y’all are dead set on ruining it for everyone.

bonus round: we grew up on sites that didn’t offer nearly as many ways to protect oneself from triggering content or content one deemed unsavory. we had tags/content warnings on fanfic sites and that’s about it.

anonymous asked:

what is splitting?

Splitting is defined as a rapid change of emotions, but that’s not very specific. Despite the fact that splitting is an almost universal symptom for BPD individuals nobody really has put out the best description for it. I remember being very confused when I first heard of it and even more confused when my google searches came up without any real answer to what exactly splitting is. Truly the best way to define splitting is to describe it, but it tends to manifest itself in many ways, so I’ll do my best to cover them all.

Rage Split: A sudden anger that courses through the body sometimes without warning. Your chest will tighten and your vision may tunnel. A burning, aching feeling usually blossoms in my rib cage, like my heart is trying to break out and attack. Generally the primary emotion felt is anger. I become downright infuriated at someone or something for what could be no reason at all. This kind of split usually causes me to act impulsively, say things, I shouldn’t say, and lash out violently. It’s almost like catharsis in that it’s a release of emotions, or just this one overwhelming emotion. Sometimes I can’t really remember what I did or said during the split and looking back the memory is usually a blur.

Preparation Split: This is a split that usually isn’t acted on. Usually a scenario is imagined in the head of what somebody might say to you and how you’d respond. You start to gear up for this situation as if it’s actually going to happen. You begin to hate this person in question, despite the fact that what they ‘did/said’ was purely in your head. Then when the time comes and nothing happens you feel almost disappointed. Most importantly however the feelings of imagined anger and betrayal linger.

Isolation split: This is a split brought on by an extreme fear of abandonment and usually blindsides you unexpectedly out of nowhere. You could be at home, in school, at work, or even with friends and have the overwhelming feeling that everybody hates you. Not only that, but you have the desire to prove yourself wrong so you do the most rational (or in this case irrational) thing you can think of in an effort to get somebody to notice you: you cut yourself off. Now, for some borderlines this is just straight up cutting people out of your life aggressively and for no reason and then wondering why nobody is checking up on them. For others this might be withdrawing casually from social groups and conversations, desperately hoping for somebody to notice and ask if their okay. In both cases the borderline is either noticed, which brings on a sort of euphoria, or is unnoticed and will rage split on themselves (self harm, suicide attempts, risky behaviors, etc).

Those are the main ones that I come across, but here are some little ones!

Sadness split: A sudden feeling that the world had gone cold and empty and that nothing will bring you joy, ever. This could be mistaken as a symptom for depression, but usually these little splits resolve themselves within a matter of days or even hours.

Apathy split: The borderline no longer feels any emotion whatsoever. For borderlines this is a little bit of heaven that quickly turns into hell. We’re so used to experiencing everything at once that we don’t know how to cope with this new numbness, so we try to force ourselves into experiencing something. This may include self harm, dangerous/illegal activities, etc.

Silent split: Like a rage split in that it is anger fueled, but normally the impulsive behaviors are controlled. This is more common in quiet borderlines.

Euphoria split: This is a sudden ‘Everything is good and wonderful! Nothing will ever make me sad again!’ kind of emotion that results from getting the desired attention we crave. Borderlines will then become so wrapped up in this feeling that they neglect their real responsibilities, convinced that they will be okay and not having the permanence to remember the consequences of their actions.

Okay, I think that just about covers it. Just ask if you have any more questions!

okay but i love love LOVE how elaborate and high key jake asking charles to be his best man is and adore how it was way more high key that the actual proposal itself - it just shows how well that jake knows the most important people in his life???? and i love that?????

he knows that charles will love and cherish that big celebration for years to come (and that charles desperately needs the validation, as we see him obsessively worrying over whether jake might choose someone else) - just like he knew that the proposal needed to be just them, just this sacred, special, vulnerable and beautiful moment he could share with amy.

jake peralta is the kind of guy that works and plans tirelessly to do things that make his best friends and the love of his life happy - and that only makes me love him even more.

Brutally Honest Venus in Houses

Venus in House I
Aren’t you miss Marilyn Monroe? You present yourself to the world with charm and cuteness and get stuff on your way like that. You’re very flirty and love to play dumb so stupid people thinking they’re too smart will lecture you and you will even get out of the situation pretending you’re a good learner when in fact you’re just being diplomatic and shady. You like to be sexually admired and know how to use it in your favor without being obvious. How not to like you? Not even you know that.

Venus in House II
Here comes Lana del Rey in her Sugar Baby phase. Maybe is not even conscious but your love life has to be luxurious and you will probably fall for rich people - not that you are actively looking for this kind of thing. To you, romantic means financial effort, and if they care enough they will do it for you, right? Also you’re pretty obsessed with stability. Love comes with a price, and you won’t marry and put your being in the hands of someone who can’t even pay its own bills. Maybe you have a heritage or come from a wealthy family, and you will keep at least the same pattern of life you already have with someone stable that knows how to $ enjoy $ life.

Venus in House III
You probably fell in love for a teacher once. You just can’t resist a sweet talk and somebody that can share stories, knowledge, with good humor and a mind sharp… you’re so done. You also like to be with someone that can talk about anything without making a big deal of it, and if they don’t have anything interesting to say anymore you get bored and that’s it, the end. Also because of your endless need for new information and learning you may feel polyamory is something considerable, maybe even desirable. So many people with so many stories to share! Or maybe not, if you date a true nerd with a good heart. Is very likely you will find romance in school or college, or any study group, and maybe inspire you to follow an academic or scholar career.

Venus in House IV
You are very, very, very romantic and sentimental. Love means marrying and children, or at least marrying and having loving pets to raise. Sometimes both. You like the traditional bound - you may even say is not for you but honey, you don’t fool anyone. You like the idea of having a ring in your finger and showing off your sweet partner while making up names for your future children (or pets). You probably came from a family that gave you this traditional view - or from a so fucked up family you desired your whole life yours were better than that and decided to make your new family the closest thing possible from a traditional one. Either way, you will look for someone that can handle your family or be among the other half’s family as it were yours. And you are a hard worker to keep things as perfect as a butter advertise.

Venus in House V
You are so in love… with yourself. And everything you create. You are expressive and people love your presence - they better do, you’re a fucking genius - and you know how to attract people, how to flirt, how to keep them interested. Is like they say: work on your garden and the butterflies will come to you, and geez, your garden is a stage with high quality lightning while Mozart plays in the background to make the flowers grow more beautifully. You work on your appearance, on your expressiveness, you know exactly what you’re doing and those who don’t know how to appreciate it are not worthy of you. Your partner is someone you picked from your fans, they must admire you too - better saying, they have to understand what you are and what you do. Otherwise why even bother to lose your time with them? Losers.

Venus in House VI
You love someone who is responsible and hard working. Love to you is something a bit colder than others, you have high standards for what you want in your life and need someone to help you achieve it. This someone must work as hard as you do, must cooperate with you and stand still facing critics because you’re really mental, and your relationship is one of the things you will analyze more than feel it. The problem is you might over analyze it and ruin things when they were supposed to be ok. Chill, man. You do a good work, trust your standards, you will do fine. And so will the person you coldly chose to be with you. You will probably fall in love for a competent co-worker, maybe even your boss, or someone with a very practical view.

Venus in House VII
You’re the Venus itself. You’re a social butterfly and diplomatic af, everybody likes you and you don’t even give them the chance to not like you. You’re so fucking nice and loving, how can they not like you? Unless you have a stellium in aries or something, geez, you’re good at attracting people. You will probably fall in love for pretty people, be pretty yourself and want pretty things surrounding you. You’re all about beauty - inner and outer, but c'mon, everybody likes the outer more. You’re well behaved, gentle, you talk looking into people’s eyes and genuinely asks if everything is ok. You will probably marry and be very happy since the person that will be attracted to you will admire every piece of you, and feel lucky to have you around. Just run from people that use other people (they might perceive you’re too nice and use the shit out of you) and creeps (they might see your kindness as openness and try to do creepy shit).

Venus in House VIII
The more complicated, the better. Not because of drama, you just like… intense things. Normal relationships bore the shit out of you, you need something that will change your life completely, change the way you see things, you feel things, someone that can divide your life in “Before my partner” and “After my partner”. Someone to do new things, develop new dreams, and someone to take care emotionally and trust completely. You’re not the type of going around telling everyone you’re in love - sometimes you don’t even feel it coming. Is just there, and then you want that person all for you, in a very possessive way, and do everything to mark your territory without being obvious. You like mysterious people, or just really different people, because they will make you feel beyond the obvious and share dark secrets - the ultimate love proof for you. You may have a thing for people you shouldn’t - be the other person, or even cheat. You also are a bit traditional… but a darker version, like Morticia and Gomez - to die and kill for it. Partners in life, partners in crime. Usually in life, though, if you’re healthy.

Venus in House IX
You want to PaAaARtYy. Woohoo. You have energy, passion, attitude, and you fall for very optimistic people that will take you out of your comfort zone and go beyond with you. You might fall for college teachers and researchers, maybe people that traveled the world, or even high knowledged religion leaders, like priests. Or just a parter for crazy ideas. To you, a relationship must be something to add flavor and spice to your life and make it something incredible. Make you do incredible things, go to places you never - or always - dreamed of. The ultimate romance is to take you in a trip where you will experiment so many new things and cultures. You’re all about expansion and your love will take you beyond, make you learn something new, master a new technique… love is something almost religious that will bring you salvation. The problem is when you notice the patterns of things and get bored, or if your beloved is passing through dark times of regression. You feel lonely and that energy becomes irritation, and you may go alone with hope to find new love since you have no time for sad people.

Venus in House X
You’re the boss here. You know exactly what you want for love, and this comes with traditionalism, effort and a good status. You like the idea of marrying and having kids but indifferently from your gender you will be the “man” of the house, the boss. You will lead the relationship, take the initiative, ask to go on a date, decide when to marry, choose where to live, what to do, how to do. You are very hard working and security is important to you - and if the person doesn’t give you enough of it you will just fire them and leave the spot open to better candidates. You may seem cold but you don’t play with your life and love is something strong for you, so you just don’t give it for anyone that messes with your head. You actually know very well the difference between love and lust and are able to have lustful relationships without love, just to relieve your carnal needs. Cold, right? But real. You take responsibilities and obligations very seriously, and if you decide to bond with someone you will do it in the right way.

Venus in House XI
You’re popular and care about everyone. When it comes to love you have to find someone that will bond with your friends and coworkers. You go along with everybody and important people tend to like you. You may get involved with someone very political, or with strong political views, particularly with the power to actually do something for the masses. Or maybe a technologic nerd that is developing solutions for daily problems. You’re all about improvement and will want someone to share this view, and work together to something that will help others somehow. You’re here to make things better and your partner must recognize this. You don’t fall a little tiny for selfish bastards, even if they look pretty af - at this point you’re probably questioning the beauty standards and laughing at people that tries too hard to look good. You’re different, unique, and sometimes this is a blessing, sometimes a curse. You know you’re out of the place and fall for smart all of the place people like you. And if your morals and political views matches you will probably going to die together, holding hands and shit.

Venus in House XII
Your love is unconscious. You’re dreamy and imagine a life together with an ideal you’re afraid it doesn’t exist. This may indicate your love is in a past life too, someone you’ve bond so strongly you miss him/her and don’t even know its face. Your love makes you better as a person, grow and learn more about you. You might feel you’re infantile and this is so strange for you, while it seems so obvious for others, and will want to hide and never try. You’re too ashamed to show your feelings and always expect the worst, sometimes making a self fulfilled prophecy, and then going after easy escapes such drugs, games, porn. Bonding is specially hard for you because that’s what you need most to grow, and growing is never easy. You might break up as soon as you realize the person is not what you wanted it to be, not wanting to deal with their problems. Don’t run. You’re lovely and you can make your big dreams come true if you stay and keep on trying. Or at least the closest thing to true, which is fantastic anyway, because you’re a fabulous dreamer and that’s a great gift.

On specific labels and the color blue

There is a trend of sorts I’m seeing, that of people arguing about the existance of certain gender labels because these labels would be “too specific”. That this creating more and more specific labels would be making things too confused or complicated or what have you.

Now, I’d like you to think of the color blue. But not just any blue, but azure in particular. Would someone say azure is too specific a word, because I could have simply said blue instead? Of course I might have just said blue, but that may have made you think of any kind of blue. Another person maybe would have just asked you to think of blue, but I wanted specifically azure now. Just like I could have asked for turquoise, or teal, or cerulean. Of course these in the end are all blue, but since there are many types of blue we felt the need to make words that refer to specific shades so that others may know exactly what we are talking about without getting into long descriptions.

Suppose now, for example, someone says they are genderfluid. You’ll understand that their gender is fluid, but not what genders they go between. They might go between male and female, or between agender, nonbinary and demigirl, or between nonbinary and female, you don’t know. And maybe they’ll be alright with you just knowing they are genderfluid and leave it at that. But someone else’s gender might never encompass masculine genders, and it may be important to them, and so they might use genderfae instead of genderfluid, so that there will be no doubt on the fact that they never feel male or masculine.

And, furthermore, these specific labels aren’t just used for tthe sake of using less words to communicate a concept, they are useful to the people who use them. If you want to paint your house’s fence azure, you’ll look for azure paint, but if the label only says blue instead of what shade of blue it is you’ll have a much harder time finding the paint you want. If that genderfae person wants to meet other people who share the same gender, or is looking for resources specifically for someone who doesn’t experience masculinity, they’ll do this much faster by looking up genderfae instead of the more vague genderfluid.

This isn’t to say broad labels aren’t useful, of course. Certain people won’t feel the need to specify their gender past genderfluid, or any other umbrella term for that matter. Others people do find comfort in more specific labels.

“But,” you say, “how am I supposed to know all these labels? There’s so many of them!” Well then, did you know the word glaucous? It is apparently a type of pale grey-blue. I had no idea this word existed until about ten minutes ago. If someone had told me about something glaucous yesterday I would have had to ask what it meant, and they would have explained it to me so that in the future I could have understood it. And in the same way, no one forces you to learn every single gender label in existance, and if you ever meet someone using a label you don’t know, all you have to do is ask, and I’m sure they will be happy to explain it to you, so that in the future you will know what their gender is.

And frankly, after having looked up all possible names for blue, I assure you gender labels aren’t overly specific at all.

Venus in Signs, people you might fall in love with, and warnings:

Venus in Aries: Pretty much everyone that excites you and can do crazy stuff together, keeping the fire of your passions (sexual and mental). Probably a close friend you can do everything with. Be careful to not hurt people when your passion is gone, or go over the person too quickly.

Venus in Taurus: Someone mature, well stablished, that knows how to enjoy the finer things in life. Probably someone older, that will help you to shape the kind of life you envision for yourself. Or at least someone with cooking skills. Be careful with liars or people who might spend what they don’t have to impress.

Venus in Gemini: Someone talkative, with good words. Probably fell for a teacher or someone really into new knowledges, a nerdy friend. Someone you can talk and listen forever and don’t see time flying. Be careful with those that are all talking and no action.

Venus in Cancer: Someone really caring. Maybe a babysitter, a teacher from kindergarten, someone older with a soft and kind heart that makes you feel like home. Be careful with those who might guilt trap you, or use your feelings against you.

Venus in Leo: Can be those fangirls of actors, singers, performers. Someone that can impress you and inspire you with their doings. Someone famous, or at least respected. Be careful to not give yourself to fake people, or people who might just use you as a tool for their ego.

Venus in Virgo: Maybe a co-worker, or someone you admire so hard everything they do you might not realize you’re in love. Someone clever, reference in their field. Someone that loves working and gets excited sharing ideas. Be careful with jealousy, cause you might underestimate your mental skills if they seem not as into you. You’re interesting enough.

Venus in Libra: Someone beautiful. You might pass as shallow because you like pretty people first. You might have a hard time loving people that doesn’t deserve you. Eventually you will learn to love the inside as well. Be careful with people who might use you through your love and kindness.

Venus in Scorpio: You might have a thing for broken things. People with problems, traumas, dark secrets. If they behave oddly, it gets your attention. If they share it with you, you’re in love to the point you might endure everything for them. Be careful with potential abusers.

Venus in Sagittarius: You might fall in love with adventurous people. Researchers, people who works traveling, even foreigners. People who will show you a new world. Be careful with people too weird or actually dangerous.

Venus in Capricorn: You like older people, or at least people who behave well and seem older. You can fall for your boss, or someone of superior status. You might like “daddys” even. Be careful with powerful people trying to control you too much and lose yourself.

Venus in Aquarius: you like the punk ones. The different, the rebels, the marginalized. You sympathize with them and fighting their fights is highly important. Be careful with victim complex, or to try to save people that don’t want to be saved.

Venus in Pisces: You tend to romantize people you don’t know very well and build a dream over them, or have unrealistic expectations that people will change for you. You probably fell for someone online or had a long distance relationship where you were loyal to the core. Be careful with people that loves your attention but just wants to be friends. Don’t settle for less.

I loved billdip for a long time but often other fans of gravity falls said mean and rude things about it and to those who ship it? As a fellow shipper, I ask for your wisdom to tell me why?

Hello sweetheart, I’m sorry for taking so long to reply you.

For your question, I pretty much don’t want to discuss about this publicly but I think it would be better if I say it out one more time.

As much as I hate to admit this but BillDip is neither the most popular ship AND the most hated ship in this fandom, the reason can be summarized in one word: pedophilia - which stands for a relationship between an adult with a child. Others reasons is about abusive relationship or some sort.

If you ever want an advice from me, let me tell you one thing, that is certainly important to remember if you ever see someone harrassing the ship again: they are fictional characters. None of the thing we artists/authors draw/write are real, it’s just our own imaginations.

Sure when I say this some of you might wonder: “Then it’s okay to ship pedophilia with fictional characters because it’s your imagination?”. If I answer this in my very opinion, I’m the kind who would like to build a proper relationship for the couple I like so I can avoid all the bad things happen to them, but if I answer this in the role of all BillDip shippers, I must say yes and no, cause we all people and we have weird tastes in something sometimes but that not mean we support/are that kind in real life, fiction and real life are really, really different, please remember. It’s like watching some Disney movie which make you wondering “How the heck can two characters fall in love in like one day?”, but yet you still ship them. Yeah, that’s pretty much it mate, fiction don’t happen in real life.

So if someone don’t like the ship please just move on, this fandom is not about us shippers so don’t pull the rage to you by yourself just because you don’t like it or want people to stop shipping it, trust me, they won’t stop…

one of my favorite things about fallout new vegas is the way it takes a lot of completely ridiculous things totally seriously in the narrative

i honestly got so engrossed in the world that i didnt even question a lot of things when i played it. like, of course theres rattlesnake/coyote hybrids, why wouldnt there be? sending ghouls to the moon was kind of weird, but alright ill do it. i didnt even think to question the whole aesthetic of the legion, or the fucking great khans to be perfectly honest

hell, it might be like that in the other games too, but fnv is the only one ive finished so far, and like…. i was thrown so off guard playing fo3 and someone in megaton said that lucas simms was nice, but they thought the cowboy thing was weird, like it didnt even cross my mind that it was out of place??? i just blindly accepted the post-post-apocalyptic cowboys

Hey! What type of girls do you think Sol76, Genji, McCree or Hanzo like?

Just a note before - this is in no way meant to “body shame” anyone, you’re all handsome and beautiful and this is just what I think, you might have a different opinion and that’s okay!

Soldier 76:

  • Lowkey digs the more ‘toned’ girls
  • Someone who’s confident but not an asshole about it or towards other people
  • He’s a little forgetful so he needs someone to remind him to do stuff every now and again
  • A girl who’s willing to train with him, he sees this as bonding and that you’re taking an interest in you
  • You can’t expect any special treatment in training though, but if he pushes you too hard, he’ll make it up to you later

Genji:

  • He likes smaller girls, someone he can pick up and “throw around” almost. It’s cute how he can just rest his head on top of yours
  • What he loves most is that your main goal in life is to make people happy then that’s all he needs
  • Your killer taste in music as well, he likes listening to you sing and [try to] write your own stuff
  • “Sweet in the streets but freak in the sheets” kind of girl
  • A good listener - someone who’s willing to listen when he’s venting

McCree:

  • mmmmmmm thICC as F UC K
  • He just loves the chub, he can’t enough of it. He likes having something to cuddle up to.
  • This will result in nicknames like “Squish” which you absolutely adore
  • He’ll fall for your voice and smile - you could have the loudest and most bizarre laugh and his heart will skip a beat every time he hears it
  • Kinda wants a girl who’s clingy, he loves being able to fill your needs and play the hero all the time

Hanzo:

  • Tends to go for the more shy and timid girls
  • Someone who it might take a while to get to know, he likes learning new things about you all the time
  • A girl who’s kind of independent but doesn’t mind affection every now and again
  • He likes a girl who’s into the artsy things and maybe sometime you can teach each other like he’ll teach you meditation.
  • Just someone who can appreciate the little things in life

I often have ideas for a scene or a character but there is no plot. How can I expand these ideas into stories? I just don't know what to do with my ideas to get a story out of them. Most plotting tips require that I know at least the beginning and the end of my story. But I don't even have that.

Hi Anonymous,

I’ve heard of other writers having this same problem, so you are not alone! Here are some ideas that come to mind when I think about this.

Coming up with a Plot (from scratch)

First off, you have ideas for characters or scenes, and that’s a starting point, and you probably (I’m assuming, because it wasn’t that long ago) saw my post, What to Outline When Starting a Story, which can give some guidance on what to consider. However, if you have no idea where to even come up with a concept for your plot that post can only be so much help.

Conflict out of Story Elements

Since you have some ideas about character and scene, I’d try building off that. In some cases, you might need to flesh those out a bit more to continue (I don’t know, since I don’t know how much you have those figured out).New York Times best-selling author David Farland points out in his book Million Dollar Outlines that characters grow out of their setting. We are all influenced by our setting–where we live, where we spend our time, what century we’re part of, etc.

Setting –> Character

Farland goes on to say that out of character (and setting) comes conflict:

Setting + Character –> Conflict

Plot obviously comes from some sort of conflict, the character reacting to and trying to solve that conflict or conflicts. But let’s finish out the diagram/equation.

Setting –> Character –> Conflict –> Theme

How conflicts are dealt with in the story create the theme.

It should be noted though that this diagram may not be helpful to everyone, and it’s also possible to work backwards from it. For example, I personally don’t like the idea of starting with the setting–although, realistically, pretty much all stories start there, if only to the most basic degrees (time period, real world vs. fantasy world, Earth vs. space, etc.). I often like to start with character. But as you work on your character, at some point, you are going to be looking back at what kind of life he grew out of and where he came from, and where he is now. Other people may like to start with conflict, and work back into character and setting. So, it doesn’t have to be linear.

But let’s look at the conflict part. You need some form of conflict to have plot. As I mentioned a few weeks ago in my post Are Your Conflicts Significant? the conflict should either be broad (far-reaching) or personal to the character. If it’s not either, it’s probably not that significant. However, it should be noted that you can make almost any conflict broad, or personal.

But how do you even get to that point? If you like Farland’s diagram, what I would suggest would be looking at those characters and setting. Brainstorm conflicts by asking yourself questions.

  • What conflict can come out of this setting?

For example, in some stories, major conflicts come straight out of the setting. Most if not all dystopians, like The Hunger Games fall into this category. You can even look at movies like Interstellar, which deals largely with space travel. The major conflict came out of a setting (Earth will soon be inhabitable). In a fantasy story, conflicts can come out of the world and worldbuilding (setting), whether it’s the magic system or the world itself. In Lord of the Rings, the major conflicts often come from the setting (Frodo has to make it to Mount Doom) and magic (the One Ring is a magical object that must be destroyed). In historical fiction, it can come out of setting–what are some of the conflicts the world was dealing with during WWII?

But what about something more small-scale than Panem, outer space, and Middle-earth? Setting can play a role there too. What kind of conflicts can come out of attending high school in 2017? What conflicts might be present there? What conflicts might come out of trying to start a career as a woman centuries ago? The story doesn’t have to be epic for this sort of brainstorming to work.

Les Miserableis a good example of how setting can play into conflicts, whether it’s being a struggling young mother, a convict, or participating in politics.

  • What conflict can come out of this character?

Once you have your character, you can try brainstorming conflicts for her. Now, there are sort of two ways to approach this.

One, you look at your character–her personality, strengths, weaknesses–and ask yourself, what would this character want? Figuring out what your character wants is often vital to a good story. In some stories, it can be more simple, basic, or straightforward. Maybe your character just wants money. In other cases, it might be bigger. Maybe your character wants to defeat an evil ruler. It can be somewhat philosophical. Maybe your character dreams of ridding the universe of a false god, like in His Dark Materials.

When you know what your character wants, you can start brainstorming conflicts by considering what could stop her from getting what she wants. In Lord of the Rings, Frodo volunteers to destroy the Ring, but there are literal obstacles in his way. Space, for one thing. He has to travel for miles and miles and miles. Then there are other people and creatures: orcs, Shelob, Sauron, even his own companions–these people are in conflict with him. He has to deal with getting hurt, wounded, and fatigued. All these things are keeping Frodo from his goal. And of course, his ultimate want is to return to the Shire, but he has to destroy the Ring first.

If your character wants to be in a relationship with someone, there are obstacles too. Maybe the love interest doesn’t know he exists. Maybe there is a family feud, like in Romeo and Juliet. Maybe there is a love triangle. Whatever your character wants, you start brainstorming what could keep him from getting it.

A second approach to brainstorming conflicts with character is to look at your character and consider what kind of situations would be difficult for them, what would make them grow. In some cases, they might be the reluctant hero. Love him or hate him, as I mentioned a few weeks ago, Edward Cullen is a good example of this sort of thing. He’s a “vegetarian” vampire living his life, and then out of nowhere, a girl shows up that is basically his personal brand of cocaine. How is he supposed to deal with this? Worse. He has feelings for her. Immediately, Edward is in conflict.

Now, you can combine both methods. And in reality, both those examples have both. Sure, Frodo volunteered to take the Ring, but he was basically the only person who could. But look at him. He’s just a humble hobbit. He doesn’t do magic, he doesn’t know warfare, and he knows very little about the world. But he’s thrown into a situation where those characteristics will be tested. Similarly, Edward is thrown into a situation, but he ends up having wants too. He wants to be in a relationship with Bella. But the fact he is a vampire and she has potent blood is a conflict that impedes that.

So you can brainstorm conflicts from setting and character.

Plot out of Conflict Types

Let’s look at this another way.

There are five types of conflict.

Creating Dynamic Characters That Feel Real

Despite what people may have led you to believe, the plot or structure is not the most important thing about your story–whether it’s a screenplay, short story, novel. That’s not what makes the story real and important. That’s not why your readers care.

Characters are the most important part of your story. Without them, you have nothing. Your story is nothing.

If you want your readers to find your story complex, compelling, and dynamic, then your characters have to be complex, compelling, and dynamic. You’re thinking, “Oh, that’s easy. I’ve already done that.” Your babies are complicated. They’re beautiful but damaged. Intelligent but socially awkward. They want to be an astronaut; they want to save the world.

Sorry, but you’re full of shit.

Characters aren’t just characters, they’re real people, even if they only exist in ink and paper and your mind rather than in flesh and blood. They need to be as real to your readers as their mother, father, best friend, the person sitting next to them. Otherwise, you have failed. Flesh them out, bring them to life on the page.

Your characters are the heart and soul of your story, and you need to treat them as such. That is your job as a writer. And when you don’t do that, you not only fail your readers and your story, you not only do yourself a great disservice, but you also expose yourself. You reveal something to your readers that you don’t want them to know. As Claudia Hunter Johnson says in her book, Crafting Short Screenplays That Connect (which is an excellent book I recommend you all read), character creation is “an artistic and ethical issue.”

Repeat after me: It is an artistic and ethical issue.

Do you see this? It’s things like this that keep breaking my heart. Anna knows all about hell, and she goes to touch him and he flinches back, not expecting (even more than usual) that someone might want to touch him with kindness. Why would they, after that happened in hell? He thinks he doesn’t deserve kindness or gentleness in any way. But the way he goes still, blinks and settles into it; look how much he wants this kind of gentle kindness and seriously, this man breaks my heart over and over again.

I Can't Take It!

“I can’t bloody take it anymore!” Were the words screamed in Draco’s face as he opened the door. He blinked rapidly at the fuming redhead in front of him. Weasley. That was someone he hadn’t seen in years, not since the final battle.

“Excuse you?” Draco reprimanded with an arched brow. He honestly had no idea what was happening here. He must have mixed up his ingredients when making his potion this morning, causing a severe hallucination. Because that was the only explanation his mind could come up with at the moment.

“At first, I thought I was just delusional, seeing things where there was nothing but I know I’m not.”

Draco blinked rapidly as he too concluded the man was delusional. Something he had always known to be true.

“You keep writing books about Harry!”

Every rational thought left the blonde as dread filled his stomach. There was no way that Weasley had figured it out. His mother was blissfully unaware of who his muse was, his friends were just as clueless, all wondering who could possibly be the one he was desperately pining after. The whole world was blind but yet Weasley had discovered his secret?

“Don’t give me that look!” Weasley spat hotly. “It’s just so obvious. I don’t understand why no one but me thinks so! I see your stupid books everywhere. Witches giggle in their offices at work, completely engrossed in your horribly sappy novels.” A pause as a freckled nose wrinkled in disgust.

“I can’t go into Diagon Alley without seeing your ugly face plastered from every window, advertising this travesty.”

Ugly? Draco huffed angrily as he listened somewhat impatiently to the hogwash spewing out of Weasley’s mouth.

“My own wife reads them and badgers me incessantly about reading them too!”

That had Draco wincing, he wasn’t sure how he felt about Granger reading his works. It was a little uncomfortable, if he was being honest.

“I can’t even go to my parents without seeing your entire collection stacked against the wall. My mother reads them!” A pitiful moan escaped. “My own mum!”

A trickle of amusement was making its way inside of Draco. Oh, he was still annoyed and ticked off but seeing Weasley in so much distress because of him, was lifting his spirits.

“I have put up with this for years and I can’t take it anymore!” Weasley took a step forward, which Draco was loath to admit made him want to take a step back. The man was clearly mental.

“You have to tell Harry how you feel.” Begged the disturbed wanker. “I can’t take another novel. I can’t take the pining! I can’t take the whining! I can’t take another fucking thing! If I have to listen to one more person tell me how ‘wonderfully heartbreaking’ your stories are, I will either murder you, Harry or myself.” A pause. “And I can’t honestly tell you which one of us is at the forefront of that. Perhaps I will kill us all and be done with it.”

Threats weren’t something new to Draco but this was the first time he had been on the receiving end of one done so vehemently.

“I’m an Auror.” Weasley unnecessarily reminded him, as if he hadn’t been aware of this. “I know how to murder someone and make it appear as an accident. They’ll never find your body.” The sheer conviction in the promise was almost staggering.

Draco rolled his eyes as he looked to the sky, debating about hexing the crazy redhead.

“Are you finished?” He drawled with an exaggerated yawn, hoping to get rid of Weasley.

Blue eyes narrowed dangerously. “You know what is the worst part of all of this?”

The question was obviously rhetorical but Draco shook his head anyways, hoping this would be the last thing said on the topic.

            “Harry loves your books.”

Draco’s breath caught in his throat as he swallowed heavily and looked away from Weasley for the first time.

“He talks about them constantly, mentions his favorite parts, grins goofily as he reads your novels in public. Every single book is handled with care and patience. He adores them and you by extension.”

Words had long ago left Draco, he didn’t know what to say at all. Couldn’t think of anything. For someone who made a living off of words and formulating beautiful lines, this was almost embarrassing.

“I don’t like you.” Weasley continued on. “Never have and might not ever will.”

Again, Draco rolled his eyes. The feeling was entirely mutual.

“But.” The man whispered softly. “It’s painfully obvious that you love Harry.” Blue eyes searched his and Draco felt as if his blackened soul was being judged.

“The things you write deserve to be said not just written. Harry deserves this, deserves this kind of attention and deserves the love you put into those stupid pages.” There was a slight reddening of Weasley’s cheeks. It was obvious he despised complimenting Draco on his books.

“Just do something. Please. While I can’t take another one of your books, I really can’t take Harry’s self-deprecating responses as to why it just isn’t possible that he is the target of your obsession.”

He would have liked to rudely point out that it wasn’t an obsession but he was distracted with the rest of the statement.

Weasley took a deep sigh. “Just think about it.” As violently as the conversation began, it ended with a soft whisper and pleading eyes.

Draco watched Weasley walk slowly away from his front door, so slowly that it was obvious he was hoping to be called back.

This was life changing. He could slam the door and pretend that this whole disaster had been a hallucination and never think about it again… or he could take a Gryffindor plunge into bravery and do what the characters in his books do, which was get their man.

“Weasley!” Draco called out, making his decision. “Get your horrid arse back here.”

The way red brows arched, silently asking for more, had Draco huffing. Who knew the man was a sadist too?

           “Help me ensnare a Gryffindor.“

A frighteningly wicked grin appeared on the redhead’s face, causing Draco to question if he had just sold away his soul to a starving Dementor. Merlin, help him.

If you are interested in the rest of the story, part two and three are finished. Or if you would like to just skip ahead to the completed story, here you go

Part TwoPart Three   ,  A03 Author Page

tbh any time someone is like “you being vulnerable in x way is Dangerous To Me Because I Might Take Advantage and Get In Trouble For It” or “if you act this way i’ll do x abusive thing, i can’t help myself” etc etc – just know that’s literally already abusive

nonabusers do not make it other people’s job to keep them from abusing

be aware that that is 100% a threat, and threatening to abuse you IS abuse, please try to learn to recognize that kind of sneaky dodge

abusers WILL try to make their choice to abuse about how you forced them into it, and they tend to lay the groundwork for that justification as early as possible

We need to talk about this. We really do.
Can I say I was shocked and teary eyed at this scene, but also kind of mad.
That sentence came out of his mouth like he had said it a thousand times. In a way he probably had. I know I might be reaching but I am going to say that he accepted Nomi after Teagan did. The only one not moving was her mom. And he decided to stand with the woman he loves… and he turn his back on someone who he didn’t fully understand.
Fear does some stupid things to people. And This begins to make up for it.
So… Thank you Mr. Marks for seeing your daughter how we see her.

taz fandom gift exchange 2017

I thought it might be fun to organize something like this! The idea is simple - apply, give someone a gift, and get a gift from someone else! The gifts can be fics or fanart.

  • send an e-mail to tazsecretsanta@gmail.com (please put your tumblr url in the title)
  • include what kind of things you’d like to receive (example: i like modern aus and enemies to lovers fics) and wouldn’t like to receive (example: nothing nsfw please), as well as what kind of things you are willing to and not willing to write/draw
  • i’ll be taking applications until November 20th. On that day, I will pair everyone up, and send everyone a message with the information needed to start creating the gifts (if your askbox will be closed, i’ll send you an e-mail, but i’d rather do it via tumblr)
  • on December 24 post your gift on tumblr and/or Ao3, tagging it with #secretsantataz
  • if you want to post your fic on Ao3, please add it to the official collection on Ao3 (you can add your fic before December 24th, the collection will not be made public until then)
  • check the #secretsantataz tag for updates and contact me if you have any questions!

good luck and have fun!
