someone in this situation is lying

The Signs as Terrible Mistakes
  • Aries: trying really hard drugs because you don't "have an addictive personality"

  • Cancer: turning off your phone and refusing to leave your room or talk to anyone for days
  • Leo: getting overly involved in a situation that has nothing to do with you
  • Virgo: criticizing and judging someone who does not wish to be criticized or judged
  • Libra: getting back with an abusive ex despite the warnings of those around you
  • Scorpio: wishing bad on an "enemy"/ praying for their downfall/ seeking revenge
  • Sagittarius: leaving town with no job, no money to your name, and no resources

I screwed up my first year of high school. To some people, it doesn’t look like it. But with a combination of mental illness, not amazing friends and a lack of discipline, I’m glad I barely remember that. But that screw up of a year taught me more than any high school teacher could. Now let me share these things with you. Just a warning, this will most likely be a chaotic rambling of everything in my head.

Mental illness is a legitimate thing do not accuse someone of lying about their mental illness. Don’t do it. You can blame a lot of things on how you were young and stupid, but the question is, are you still being what you call ‘young and stupid’? Now is that a good thing or a bad thing? Learn to laugh at yourself. You do that by putting yourself in weird situations. Walking around the city in a onesie and bright pink vans was a great time. It made me more comfortable in my skin. Own yourself. Simplicity is beautiful. Trust me. You don’t need to get smashed at a party when you’re underage to have fun, trust me on this, I’ve seen way too many incredible people screw up such a great part of their lives by getting smashed at parties and doing drugs when they’re barely 13. Don’t. Beauty isn’t everything, you’ve got a brain. Use it. Such a unique mind shouldn’t go to waste due to societal expectations. You’ve got a heart that’ll melt even the coldest of minds. Find your escape. Books, music, painting, whatever. The world can be overbearing, don’t let it get to you.

Put your all into everything. Don’t half arse anything. If you think you’ve done enough, do it three more times. Check out three more websites. Go through your flashcards three more times. Three is a magical number. What do you enjoy? Okay good, do it often. Who cares if you can’t exactly put it on your resume. Sexuality is a thing, respect other people’s and don’t be ashamed of yours. Do things, but for the right reason. Don’t do a certain co curricular only because it’ll look good on your resume, do it because you enjoy it. Don’t stop doing something because you think other people are better than you. Maybe they are, but that doesn’t mean you can’t improve.

You’re going to change. You’ll never be the same person again. And that’s not a bad thing. But always remember, your mind is a compass pointing you to your final destination. And your final destination is the place where you draw your final breath. And you can ignore it all you want, but you’re going to die at some point. So stop wasting today being someone who you don’t want to be or not growing into the person you want to be, because life is dynamic. To the point where it will end but we have no idea when.

—  I found this in notes, I wrote this a year ago and it still stands.
transcript of the speech i gave at Vassar’s black baccalaureate service

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, honored guests, and the Vassar class of 2017.
Just saying that aloud made me feel old. Class of 2017? Most of y'all were born after dark-skinned Aunt Viv left the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. That’s wild.

I want to first thank you for allowing me to be a part of such a special moment in your lives. I am honored, privileged, and a bit in disbelief that you asked me of all people to give this address. I try not to have feelings, and I’m going to do my best not to cry today, but no promises.

I’m here to stand in the gap between you and your parents and guardians and any other elders in your lives that you stopped listening to because you thought they were wack and out of touch. I remember being in your shoes not TOO long ago, and it is my fervent prayer that something that I say here today will help you avoid some of the mess I went through.
To be honest I’m a little nervous, but I figured there was no way could this be worse than when Betsy DeVos went down to Bethune-Cookman, so let’s get started.

As you transition to life after Vassar the changes will be both inevitable and swift, so I’d like to begin by giving you some well-intentioned advice and warning you about the continued process of becoming an adult.

Love Advice For The Venus Signs
  • Aries: It's okay to fall hard but remember that you're enough with or without someone else. Get some perspective on your current situation before making any big decisions
  • Taurus: Make sure the person you invest all your time and trust in will give you the relationship you deserve. You're much better off without people who are going to only be there when it's convenient for them
  • Gemini: Avoid routine and the mundane in your love life. You are too bright to be wasted on someone who feeds off the light of others and creates none of their own
  • Cancer: If you think someone is lying to you, trust your instincts. You have every right to walk away from someone who hurts you and never look back. Your sensitivity is a good thing, don't lose or bury it
  • Leo: Your partner is not the sun, so don't make them the center of your universe. Allow imperfection and give as much as you take
  • Virgo: Take as much time as you need and if someone pushes you, push back. Be confident in yourself and don't compare yourself to others because it's a disservice to all your good qualities
  • Libra: Don't let people think your love is a right and not a privilege. Nobody is entitled to you, and the moment someone starts acting like they are is the moment you should take your heart somewhere else
  • Scorpio: Your feelings are very real but are never going to be acknowledged if you never talk about them, so tell people how you feel while you can. Not everything is going to be perfect, but you will still be complete no matter what happens
  • Sagittarius: Find someone who challenges you and don't settle for less. Allow yourself to care as much as you want and don't brush off things that could make you happy
  • Capricorn: You act like you have so much to hide but it's okay to open up. When someone says they care about you, believe them and don't dismiss it. You won't always be in control and that's alright
  • Aquarius: It's not your fault they can't always understand you, so keep being proud of who you are. You will fall in love when you find someone who loves you for your mind and grows with you
  • Pisces: In your life, you will encounter some people who don't deserve to be forgiven. Unconditional love is a beautiful thing to give, just make sure you find someone who has it for you in return

Stay Safe (Damian x Reader)

Request: Please do a Damian x reader where the reader (who is dating Jason) is very close with Damian, like in an older sister/motherly way

A/N: I hope you like it anon! Don’t forget– Q and A and requests are open! Have a great day/night loves!

~~~~~~~~~
“You’re sure that you have your phone?” Damian asked you. The 11 year old sitting on the couch was probably 10 times more paranoid about you going on a date than you were. “And your house key? What about money in case you need to call a cab?”
“I’m good, Dami.” You slipped on your shoes and gave yourself a once over in the mirror on the wall. “Jason and I have been dating for 4 months now, remember?”
“Text me or call me if you need anything– and by anything, I mean anything. I can hide a body–”
“Damian, I’m going to pretend that I didn’t hear that.” You gave him a stern look before giving him a hug. “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. Be safe on patrols, okay?”
“I’m not the one you need to worry about.” He grumbled, wrapping his arms tightly around your waist. “Todd better keep it in his pants.” He said lowly enough that he thought that you couldn’t hear him, but you laughed and he went red.
“Don’t worry about Jason.” You stepped back and booped him on the nose, smiling when he scrunched up his nose in distaste. “I’m perfectly capable of handling myself kiddo.”
“Have fun.” He begrudged before the door closed behind you.
~~~~~~~~~~

“How’s short stack?” Jason asked you as you laid on his chest. “Still a demon?”

“Damian is good. And definitely not a demon. He was very concerned about me dating you though.” You laughed. You had met Jason through Damian– or, rather through Bruce. You were a confidant to Bruce Wayne (yes, you knew his identity) at an early age when you interned under him at Wayne Industries. He let you in on all of his secrets and ended up giving you an executive job there when you were old enough to apply.

Damian was your ‘little brother’ of sorts. Bruce had called you in to watch him on several occasions when he was out on business trips. Since then, he had grown very attached to you. And when you and Jason started dating, he’d become even more protective of you.

“Of course. He cares about you.” Jason said, trailing a finger down your back. Your date had eventually led back to his apartment; well, it was more like it had led back to one of the walls of his apartment, then the couch, and lastly his bed. It was a great date.

“He’s just always worried about me.” You sighed. “I wish he wouldn’t worry so much. He’s going to have an ulcer at 16 at the rate he’s going.”

“He doesn’t need to worry about you.” Jason smiled down at you. “That’s my job, remember?”

“Sure.” You rolled your eyes. “Fine– you can worry about me, but it’s pointless, because I can take care of myself.”

“Of course you can.” He kissed you softly, and you relaxed at his touch.

~~~~~~~~~~
You were walking back to your apartment when someone crept up behind you. You didn’t have time to react before there was a gun pressed to your back, and a voice in your ear.
“Give me your wallet.” A man growled in your ear. You handed your wallet over wordlessly. “And your pho–”
He collapsed in the middle of his sentence. You whirled around, bewildered, when you saw Damian standing there. “Y/F/N? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” You looked down at the guy on the ground. “Can’t say the same for him.” Damian retrieved your wallet and handed it to you.
“From now on, you should have someone walking with you when it’s dark out.” He sighed. “I thought Jason was giving you a ride back after dinner?”
“I was just walking back from his apartment.” You said. Damian looked up at you questioningly. “It’s only a couple of blocks. I would have had the situation under control, but unfortunately there was a gun barrel pressed to my back.”
“Yeah, well, we’re going to have to fix that.” He started walking you back to your apartment. “What were you doing at Jason’s?”
“Hanging out. Talking.” You said, not necessarily lying per se. He was 11, he didn’t need to know that the two of you were having se–
“What did you talk about?”
“Taxes. Life. College. Grown up stuff.” You said. He nodded in agreement, and you smiled internally. When you got back to your apartment, Damian waited until you were inside and the door was locked before beginning to climb out the window. However, he turned around at the last minute.
“Stay safe, Y/F/N.”
You walked up to him and kissed his forehead endearingly. “Bye, Dami. See you.” With that, he left your apartment. You chuckled as you closed the window behind him, making sure it was unlocked in case he needed in. You loved him– in a fraternal sense.
Damian Wayne: your overprotective, adorable, brave ‘little brother’.
Currently you were sitting in a car, struggling between Hoseok and Taehyung, while Yoongi was driving, Jimin sitting in the seat next to him.
“Because I want my sister to be with me in the car!“Hoseok exclaimed.
whoever tf thinks neil josten would be in gryffindor can step UP. like, “that’s the same house as his father, he wouldn’t want to be in it”. can we stop ? generalising ? like, nathan wesninski is the devil incarnate, we’re not stupid, but slytherin isn’t the house of evil. it’s the house for people who know what the fuck they want (example: neil josten wants to play exy, he wants to live. how does he do this? through lying, through manipulating situations to best fit him). slytherins, much like hufflepuffs, are loyal to their own. they protect a chosen few (example: riko belittled kevin and the foxes on national television. neil josten, slytherin, was boiling from the inside out with rage. how did he resolve that? he basically told riko moriyama to go fuck himself. later, he punched riko moriyama for threatening andrew minyard, someone he was fiercely devoted to protecting. further-fucking-more, he later got riko killed simply by telling his brother, head of the moriyama family, that riko was causing trouble).
oh, and also: renee walker is a slytherin, as is allison reynolds. andrew minyard is a hufflepuff, aaron minyard is a ravenclaw along with kevin day and matt, dan and nicky are gryffindors.
Summary: After a campus party you found yourself awake in another bedroom that isn’t yours. Naked.
Warning: Mature Language.
Note: I haven’t posted anything in such a long time. I deleted everything else because I wanted to make a fresh start.
Do you like this imagine? Would you like me to continue?
Turning around after a night of tossing around, still latching on the white coloured sheets, your eyes blinked a couple of times. Slowly you opened them as you had trouble getting used to the sunbeams that shined through the curtains.  Facing them, your head started to pound immediately. You rubbed your eyes. Meanwhile you threw your legs of your bed, your feet catching the cold ground. You tried to reach for your phone on the dresser beside you, but soon realised it wasn’t there. Your brows turned into a knot. Your gaze turned to the table next to the bed, but your eyes were still not opened completely.
A brief gust flew across room. It made you shiver and you realised you didn’t have any clothes on hence the coldness of the breeze against your chest. Rapidly you looked down and discovered yourself naked. Additionally, you didn’t recognize the room you were in. Your dorm room was painted in white and was decorated with all kinds of different lights, candles and pictures. Clearly this wasn’t your bed either as you only had a single bed since you wanted more space in your room. If you wanted to have a good time you went to the other person’s room. It suggested the reason you were here in the first place.
thecybersmith  asked:
Something occurred to me recently, when I was contemplating the outcomes of a Leliana!Divine world-state. Circles, imperfect as they arguably are, provide a contained environment with which to resolve a potential outbreak of possession. I acknowledge that, as you have opined, the Rite Of Annulment is a sub-optimal response to them; that said, even a less questionable solution would be easier to implement with the Nevarran Accord in place. How would the post-circle Thedas solve such events?
Well, that’s a bit of an understatement. I believe I said that the Right of Annulment is fucking evil. :)
I stand by that, absolutely. I don’t think it is ‘questionable’ or ‘sub optimal’. I think the indiscriminate murder of what may amount to hundreds of trapped and helpless people is a grotesque and horrific thing. I get these Asks, sometimes. And they all amount to ‘But when do we get to murder mages? Surely now we can murder mages? Surely this situation is bad enough that we can murder mages?’
My answer is never. You never get to murder mages without consequences. And let’s be clear here: my word is ‘murder’. If you are cornered by a mage, possessed or otherwise, who means to kill you, and you find you must kill them to survive, then you are acting in self defence. And that’s fine. But if you have arrived on the scene with the intent to kill, you are a murderer.
First thing: this business about Circles and the Annulment being set up to resolve possession scenarios. They’re not. Not at all. If they’ve ever actually accomplished that, it was incidental to their true purpose. However, I think in most cases the Circles (and in all cases Annulments) have made things worse rather than better. I know that safety is how the Chantry sells it, but the Chantry lies.
Let’s take a look at how all this got started:
In the 83rd year of the Glory Age, one of the mages of the Nevarran Circle was found practicing forbidden magic. The templars executed him swiftly, but this brewed discontent among the Nevarra Circle. The mages mounted several magical attacks against the templars, vengeance for the executed mage, but the knight-commander was unable to track down which were responsible.
Three months later, the mages summoned a demon and turned it loose against their templar watchers. Demons, however, are not easily controlled. After killing the first wave of templars who tried to contain it, the demon took possession of one of its summoners. The resulting abomination slaughtered templars and mages both before escaping into the countryside.
The grand cleric sent a legion of templars to hunt the fugitive. They killed the abomination a year later, but by that time it had slain 70 people.
Divine Galatea, responding to the catastrophe in Nevarra and hoping to prevent further incidents, granted all the grand clerics of the Chantry the power to purge a Circle entirely if they rule it irredeemable. This Right of Annulment has been performed 17 times in the last 700 years.
– The Right of Annulment
The Templars murdered a mage for practising ‘forbidden magic’. What did he do? We’ll probably never know. And that’s the root cause of the problem: Templars are empowered to perform summary executions, and are never held accountable for their actions. They are assumed to be justified in anything they do.
The Circle mages, finding themselves trapped in a building with a mob of religious fanatics who had just proved they were not even slightly above murder, retaliated. Apparently, they were really good at it. Targeted guerilla warfare that kept the Templars on the back foot, and for which they were never caught. I’d just like to pause for a moment to give a fucking standing ovation to the Glory Age Nevarran mages. It’s doubtful they were ever able to write down and disseminate their tactics. Nevertheless, they should be an inspiration for every generation that followed after.
Eventually, someone broke through the Templar lines. I’m not sure whether I believe the bit about the demon summoning. I’ll certainly concede that it’s possible: people do summon demons to fight their battles, and that can get very, very, very out of hand. But ‘demons’ and ‘blood magic’ are the Chantry’s go-to excuses for everything, and they’ve been caught out lying or misunderstanding these situations before. The mages were, as I said, doing really well. And they were Nevarran mages. This is a culture that knows how to work the Fade, and, given that this is early Chantry history, I’d expect traditional Nevarran practices to be more prominent and less suppressed by Chantry forces. I’d put Nevarran mages up there with Rivaini and Avvar in knowing how to handle spirits.
Someone got out, and they stayed free for a year. Given that a ‘legion’ of Templars were sent after them (from context I’m not entirely sure if the author means 5,000 (ish) Templars, like they sent in the Roman army, or if she just means ‘a lot’ but I suspect the latter because bloody hell, that’s a lot of Templars), and they were pursuing them over the course of that time, I would guess that the 70 people killed were mostly, if not entirely, the pursuing Templars.
Whoever this was, possessed or not, they conducted an extremely effective rebellion against the Chantry and Circle systems. They, as well as the other mages involved, demonstrated that Templars could be resisted. And not just resisted: killed. They could be taken out in large numbers. You can just walk out of a Circle.
That could never be allowed to happen again.
The Right of Annulment meant that, back at the stage where the mages were just ‘mount[ing] several magical attacks against the Templars’, the Templars could just go in and slaughter everybody, without making any effort to discover who was behind the rebellion.
The Right of Annulment is a terror tactic, aimed at suppressing rebellion. The Circle system exists to oppress and contain mages, both for the financial and political gain of the Chantry, and because Orlesian culture is genuinely anti-magic and wants to suppress magic in other cultures. None of this is done for anyone’s safety.
Look at the other times it’s occurred (where we have any details to discuss):
The third time the Right of Annulment was invoked on a Circle of Magi, in 3:09 Towers, Knight-Commander Gervasio of Antiva killed all of the city’s mages for demonic possession. However, a massacre may have already occurred at the hands of Knight-Captain Nicolas, with the Right invoked as cover-up. The Seekers of Truth later apprehended Ser Nicholas, who had left the order to kill mages and admitted to having murdered over a hundred.
– Magehunter
Ser Nicholas murdered a bunch of mages, both inside the Circle and out, and the other Templars killed any survivors to prevent retaliation or attempts to seek justice. This is a perfect case of the process Galatea implemented working exactly as intended: the Antivan mages were never given the chance to organise and resist the way the Nevarran mages did. They also claimed they did it because of mass demonic possession, which is why I’m suspicious of the original Glory Age event.
The Annulment in the Broken Circle quest was called due to Uldred’s rebellion:
Uldred will show us the way. Finally, recognition within the Circle and freedom from the scornful eye of the templars. We will not be shunned. Be ready.
–Enchanter Gravid, Libertarian
The time is drawing near. Uldred has brought his intentions to light and a confrontation is all but inevitable. We will separate or walk with our brothers, but we will be free.
–Enchanter Boson, Libertarian
If blood must be shed and used, so be it. I will follow when he calls. The yoke must be released, whatever the cost.
–Enchanter Prist, Libertarian
I have spoken to him directly. His intentions are that we will demand the templars withdraw. I don’t know that I am willing to follow, but I will be present to hear his argument.
–Enchanter Fonst, Aequitarian
Madness! I doubt blood will be of use to you if it is flowing down the tower steps. Step away from this folly, before it consumes us all.
–Enchanter Luvan, Loyalist
The call is made. We will stride out of here with pride in our step, regardless of outcome. This is for the good of the circle. Uldred will see to it.
–Libertarian Rhonus
Promises of Pride
I can’t take any Templar handwringing over this situation seriously when I have to note that this is, once again, a rebellion. Uldred and his allies had an actual plan: with Loghain’s backing they were going to force the Templars out of the Circle. It is entirely within Templar interests to kill all of these people.
This is also a rare case where we can actually confirm a demon outbreak in the Circle. It is thus a clear example of why ‘containment’, as you’ve put it, is cruel, counterproductive, and indeed itself an outright evil.
If you are confronted by a demon, and lack the strength to fight it, the best thing you can do is leave. The Circle system does not allow mages to do that. They are unable to get away from the demons hunting them, and have no choice but to confront them.
Because the mages could not leave the Circle, what started with a single case of demonic possession, when Uldred fucked up a summoning spell, became a plague. While the timeline on this is somewhat murky, the events of Broken Circle likely took place over two or three days: during that time both mages and Templars who were trapped in the Circle were hunted down by demons and either killed or possessed. This was always bad, but the Circle made it a nightmare.
The Annulment in the Kirkwall Chantry was largely called because Meredith is a terrible person who likes to hurt mages … but, it can certainly be framed as a reaction to what she perceives as open rebellion:
Varric: The more she squeezed the mages, the more they resisted. The more they resisted, the tighter she squeezed.
Mages have been attempting to flee Meredith’s brutal regime in the Gallows for years:
Here in Kirkwall, citizens actually help rebel mages escape. Escaped apostates have survived their freedom long enough to form the “the mage underground,” a network that feeds and shelters escapees and even transports apostates into remote areas of the Free Marches and beyond our easy reach.
The Mage Underground
We can’t trust the raiders’ promise of passage - the templar’s bounty on us is far too tempting. Press on every contact you have! We must leave Kirkwall before the knight-commander does something drastic. Each night, more of our brethren make it to the coast.
If the hounds sniff out your current location, the other site we discussed is clear. Be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.
Blood Mage Dispatches
Ultimately, of course, Meredith used Anders’s attack on the Kirkwall Chantry as a pretext for the slaughter. That had fuck all to do with the Circle mages, but it didn’t need to: the Kirkwall mages were already attempting to escape their oppression in large numbers. That couldn’t be permitted. ‘Anders’, ‘demonic possession’, ‘blood magic’ – in the end, any excuse will do, when the point of an Annulment is to both crush the present rebellion and deter anyone who thinks about trying again.
When we heard of the injustices against our fellow mages at the White Spire, the Circle of Magi in Val Royeaux, I feared what was to come. Our Circle at Dairsmuid is small and isolated; it exists largely as a façade to appease the Chantry.
When the other Circles rose up, the Chantry sent Seekers across the bay from Ayesleigh to investigate. They found us mixing freely with our families, training female mages in the traditions of the seers, and denounced us as apostates. Perhaps they thought we were spineless robes who could be intimidated with a little bloodshed. Before I was first enchanter, I was the daughter of Captain Revaud, of the Felicisima Armada. I know how to plan a battle.
They brought with them a small army of templars. We fought. And we might have won. But they invoked the Right of Annulment, with all the unrelenting brutality that allowed. It is their right to put screaming apprentices to the sword, burn our “tainted” libraries, crush irreplaceable artifacts under their heels, tear down the very walls of our home. No mage has the right to disagree.
We of the Dairsmuid Circle wait now, behind barricades. I have sent word to our brother and sister mages of this outrage. When they break through, we will not die alone.
– The Annulment at Dairsmuid
The Annulment at Dairsmuid happened because a large-scale rebellion was already underway. The Dairsmuid Circle is clearly sympathetic to the rebellion – Rivella clearly calls the events at the White Spire an injustice – but given that they are a small Circle, practically speaking they probably couldn’t add much might to the uprising. This Annulment was symbolic: the Rivaini mages have likely been living their lives like this for generations; in the context of the mage uprising any deviation from Chantry dogma could be called ‘rebellion’. This Circle could only be said to be in rebellion in the most technical sense, but that was enough. They killed them all.
The Annulment is not a solution to demon possession. It’s not intended to be. That’s not what it’s for, and that’s not how it’s used. It’s terrorism. I’m sorry for the length of this, but every time I get an Ask like this I feel like I’m somehow failing at a fundamental level to convey the horror of what is going on in Thedas. The grim, ugly persecution and mass murder that is going on day-by-day, and is being sold to the average Thedosian as for their safety. The world of Dragon Age is terrifying, but not because it has demons or mages in it. It’s terrifying because of the amount of power it has ceded to the Chantry, and because of what that means for any person who doesn’t meet the Chantry’s definition of ‘normal’.
Okay. So. How should they handle it?
There’s a flippant part of me that just wants to say ‘Any way other than this!’ Because, honestly, it’s difficult to think of a system that’s worse than the one they have now. But it’s not as though they have no way forward.
The first thing I would say is that simply abolishing the Circle system should alleviate the problem considerably, because you aren’t going to have hundreds of mages packed into a place they can’t leave. You can’t have 500 possessed mages on your hands if only three mages live in your village.
It would also limit several of the causes behind possession: you won’t be forcing people to live in places where the Veil is routinely thinned by blood magic and demon summonings (phylacteries and Harrowings, respectively, and fuck the Chantry for their hypocrisy). You won’t be constantly subjecting people to high-stress situations: Tranquility, the Harrowing, forced separation from your family, long-term confinement, Templars in general, the fact that sometimes your friends just disappear and you have to accept this as normal – you know, the standard horrors of being a Circle mage.
Of course, there will still be cases where relatively large numbers of mages congregate to deal with matters affecting them specifically: classes, lectures, magic-related competitions or other leisure activities, and the political proceedings of the College of Enchanters.
Should any trouble occur in such situations – well, most schools have evacuation and lockdown procedures in place aimed at protecting students and staff when there’s a threat on campus. Why should this situation be any different? No system is ever going to be perfect, and you can’t guarantee that no one is ever going to die (we can’t do that in our world either), but you can have strategies arranged in advance to get people away from danger areas, and on what to do if you find you can’t get out and have to protect yourself until help arrives.
First thing is clear the area. Anyone who is not actively hurting someone else right now gets to evacuate. Right now, I don’t care whether any of the people in the crowd are also possessed. You can test for that, and it may not even be a problem. Unless you currently look like this:
and you are trying to rip people’s arms off, you get to leave.
Now, yes, that still leaves us with a possessed person. On that point, I would say that the Chantry lands need to completely change how they view spirits, mages and possession. As far as I can tell, everything they think is wrong, and a lot of it is dangerous. The Chantry regards demons as ‘the Maker’s first children’, who turned on humanity out of jealousy. They are inherently evil and irredeemable. That’s not true. No spirit has ever corroborated that story, and All New, Faded for Her demonstrates that a demon is a spirit in pain, and can be healed.
The Chantry regards possession as just about universally a death sentence. And that’s … really not true. There are some cases where possession is just fine. The Chantry would have killed Wynne just as much as Uldred if they knew about her situation. Cullen wants to lock Sigrid in a room with a Templar, because he doesn’t grasp that there’s nothing wrong with her. Your first question, when dealing with a case of possession, should always be ‘Is this actually a problem?’ If not, go away and leave them alone.
Even in cases where you are looking at outright hostile demonic possession, the mage is rarely gone. Connor, untrained child that he is, still surfaces sometimes. Having defeated her Templars attackers with demonic assistance, Evelina first flees from her kids, taking the demon away from them – although she loses control later. Marethari will contain the pride demon with which Merrill has been working until she is clear of her clan and the battle can be fought in seclusion. Grandin’s kind of a weird case, because the possession was voluntary and the two are working together – but it does seem to be a demon. Nevertheless, in that case you can speak to him, and there remains hope that the two might eventually sort themselves out.
We know that mages can be saved from demons. Connor, Feynriel, Fiona, Pharamond – all people who have survived demonic possession. It’s not even necessarily difficult: you can send Jowan in to fight Connor’s demon – this poor hapless apprentice whom they were going to make Tranquil – and he does just fine. Of course, some demons are stronger than others; I’m not saying it’s not a good idea to have specialists. But the Chantry is seriously overstating the problem here.
When possessed, most mages think they are about to die. The brave, the strong, the selfless – they fight to contain the demon until someone can come and kill them so they don’t hurt anyone else. But in those circumstances, it’s all too easy to succumb to despair. Imagine if mages could think, not ‘hold on, they’re coming to kill you’ but ‘hold on, help is on its way’.
So the next thing to do would be ask Dorian. People always seem to forget that Tevinter exists and, given that mages are aristocrats there, would seriously frown on just murdering them out of hand. Anders says in Dragon Age 2 (I haven’t got a screenshot, yet) that they help possessed mages in Tevinter. Now, when you explain to him that your previous plan had just been to murder small children because of demons, Dorian is probably going to yell … a lot. I mean … really a lot. But the entirety of southern Thedas deserves that and worse, so I can’t be too bothered. Get him to send books and specialists. Make this part of the curriculum in the College of Enchanters. It might become part of the Spirit Healer specialisation, since they’re already good with spirits.
Our third thing is … well, asking Solas is probably impractical at the moment, but there are alternatives. We need people who care about spirits and who want to help them. Ask Cole: one way or another, his entire quest line is about providing a spirit with the emotional tools to handle the mortal world. There’s more than one path that works, so regardless of whether you chose more spirit/more human, he should have some insight. Ask the Rivaini, the Dalish, the Avvar. They know about spirits, and they know how to reach the Fade. Some things the Chantry thought were impossible (like safe spirit possession) turn out to be perfectly normal in other cultures.
The Chantry needs to admit they know fuck all about this situation and have been causing incalculable harm for centuries.
This whole process should be regarded like an outbreak of a really complicated illness: get everyone clear of the area, and send in professionals to help, rather than harm. Ideally, everyone should get out of this alive. You should be aiming to save the spirit and the mage. If that’s not possible, you save whom you can. Killing is only ever a last resort.
And finally … now we need to determine whether a criminal act was committed. If you got possessed because you live in Kirkwall, and it’s hard to go three steps without running into a demon, then you are a victim and once you’ve been freed of the demon you have nothing to answer for. If you thought it was a good idea to summon a demon army in your basement to TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD, then we’re going to have to bring in the guard to arrest you.
Now … that’s should. It’s probably not will. The Chantry has ruled Thedas for centuries, and they have taught people that mages want to get possessed and kill people and/or that mages want to be magisters and make everyone else slaves. Making Leliana Divine does not just do away with all that prejudice. She may well ask the questions and do the research – she’s a bright lady, and will just give zero fucks about gossip about talks with Tevinter or ‘barbarian’ cultures – but teaching people not to stab first and think later, not to regard mages as inherently evil at worst and as expendable sinners at best will take time. I expect them to handle many things badly. We haven’t done away with bigotry in the real world either, so.
There’s also the problem of Bioware, because they would really like it if I were deeply conflicted over whether to choose mages or Templars, so I do expect more side quests where they force me to kill possessed mages. I mean – I really hope they stop that shit, but I’m not expecting it.
But Circles and the Annulment are for no one’s protection. Well, no one’s but the Chantry’s. And I say: fuck the whole lot of them.
House Rules
So for those of you that are spirit keepers/companions, or are spirit workers of any frequency, you may know a bit about house rules. Now keep in mind, you don’t need to have house rules. Some don’t find that they need them, some prefer not to have them. I choose to have a set of house rules because I find that for me, it helps bring a little peace and harmony to my house, and that if anything did go wrong, I have something to refer to. Anyone in my house, be it astral being, spirit or entity, from white arts to dark arts to black arts, is expected to follow these rules while they are part of my household/in my house.
These are my house rules. Feel free to use them if you like, modify them, add/subtract as you see fit. I have had a lot of success with these so far, and no incidents. Depending on who is in your family/keep/court, you may need to add rules, or subtract them. But these are what work for me & my family. What is in bold is my actual rule, and then I will expand upon the rule if I see fit.
1. Never harm or show disrespect to myself, my significant other, any other member of my family, friends or welcome household guests. This is obvious… I don’t want any of my spirit family hurting each other, nor do I want them hurting any human or animal that is welcome in my house.
2. Never harm any children or pets.
3. Never show yourself to anyone besides myself in your true form, unless your true form is something that would not scare them. (Example: If it is a child, appear as something child friendly.) I have a few not so pleasant looking family members, or some beings that in their true form are pretty terrifying. I wouldn’t want them showing themselves to a child or an adult.
4. Sexual contact is only welcome with me and will not be permitted with anyone else. Basically just don’t go touching my boyfriend or anyone else, they don’t appreciate it.
5. No physical manifestations at work in front of anyone but myself. Patients and coworkers are not to know about you. Some of you may not need this, but I work with the public and don’t need a spirit manifestation scaring patients away.
6. Protect yourself at all times. If something comes up and I can do something about it, I will help.
7. Do not hamper with communication. This covers and includes communication between yourselves, or with me. If I am working specifically with one or with one group, I don’t need anyone else butting in and hampering that communication. Wait until I am done.
8. Do your part for the highest good of the household, including all spirits, entities, astral beings & other. All living people, spirits, entities, astral beings & other shall work at living together peacefully. Bullying wont be tolerated, if you have an issue, contact me.
9. We work as a team, with me being the team leader. If you have suggestions, tell me. If you are unsure to my wishes, ask me or look within. If they have doubts about something, my family is always welcome to “look within” for my wishes, if I am for some reason unavailable to ask.
10. No twisting my words.
11. No lying. Do not pretend to be something/someone you are not. Do not make anything up to make someone else look bad.
12. Disarm malicious magic that is sent my way by someone else or that is around by circumstance.
13. Keep watch over property & always be ready to act against any pending issue.
14. Help identify any possible conflicts. Help judge the character of people, spirits, entities, astral beings & other around us. This has actually been a useful rule in several situations. Its really two rules condensed into one, as well, but its how I have it written in my notebook.
 Thats it! They are fairly long, but also fairly basic, and cover the essentials. Most rules are pretty obvious, but I would rather state the obvious then regret not stating the obvious later on. Again, this is just what I use for my house rules (its nice to have a digital copy on here as well) - you can use them if you like, add/remove rules as needed. & if you don’t do spirit work, or have spirits in your regular household, you don’t even need to have this.
Enjoy!
anonymous asked:
KATSUDEKU IS ABUSIVE!!! WHY DO YOU DEFEND IT?
okay so, this is obviously about this post I made. There are a lot of things wrong with this ask, but let me just list down the top three:
1.) You claim that katsudeku is abusive, yet give me no proof to justify your statement. You send me this message in hopes to either try to change my mind or ridicule me for defending what i ship, yet you lack the source nor any explanation as to why you find this ship so ‘abusive’. You don’t just go around sending messages like this to people and expect them to actually take you seriously? I mean, we’re not little kids anymore who get angered and throw a tantrum just cause someone else likes what you don’t. Your way of trying to get me to see your point is both childish and disrespectful, and I find it both offending (because not once have I tired to tell any other account who does not ship katsudeku yet ship Katsuki with any other character in the manga that their ship is ‘abusive’ when Katsuki is such a “violent and abusive” character) and pointless (because, you’re obviously not going to put up a fight to prove your point and just did this to make me feel insulted.)
2.) The fact that you blatantly ignored chapters of Katsuki’s character development throughout the manga means that you still probably claim him to be the bully and Izuku as the victim. When in fact, starting from just the first chapter of the manga, you can easily see that Katsuki was not the only one who viewed Izuku’s dream of being a hero as “impossible” and “ridiculous.” Katsuki isn’t the sole reason for any of Izuku’s issues with anxiety or lack of confidence because most of the people in his life through out his childhood, even his mother and All Might (at the start) thought that his dreams were too far fetched for someone who was quirkless, it wasn’t just Katsuki who thought of him as weak, when even the quirk biased society he lives in saw Izuku as both weak and ridiculous for even dreaming of becoming a hero. Quoting from a statement made by explodo-smash: “Deku’s problems at the beginning came from multiple facets stemming from his quirklessness and the quirk biased society he lives in, it’s a dragging part of the narrative and has an explicit influence on not only Deku’s psyche but Bakugou’s as well, in the reverse direction.”  And further more, if you’re going to come at me with the well-known scene where Katsuki told Izuku to “ take a swan dive off the roof” I would like to say that it was stated by Katsuki’s friends that what he said was “going too far” for Katsuki’s usual behavior (meaning this is probably the only time Katsuki has ever said this to Izuku, and that was uncalled for) That isn’t Katsuki’s usual behaviour, so stretching that out over the years they’ve been together is complete bullshit. Another thing is the fact that throughout those years, not once has Izuku regarded Katsuki as a bully nor someone abusive (and with Izuku’s intellect and observant nature, he’d probably know if someone was bullying him), sure he’s aware of Katsuki’s foul mouth and asshole behavior, but not once has he found Katsuki abusive. It just goes to show us how much Izuku admires and cares for Katsuki, Izuku didn’t take Katsuki’s words literally and he most certainly finds him admirable despite Katsuki’s personality. Izuku always saw Katsuki as someone brilliant and amazing, and he felt this so strongly that he said Katsuki was someone closer to him than even All Might (can you believe that? The All Might, Izuku practically worships this man, yet he still finds himself drawn closer to Katsuki). If you can’t see the amount of positive influence Katsuki has on Izuku, then you’re pretty much ignoring a large part of his character and development as well as Katsuki’s potential of being a hero in this story.
I strongly believe that their relationship isn’t as broken or horrible as some people say it is. Izuku still obviously cares for Katsuki (if the numerous times he was worried for Katsuki’s well being and claims of Katsuki being someone “brilliant” wasn’t obvious enough) Katsuki was litterally the first one he confides about his quirk being borrowed, when he doesn’t even owe Katsuki this explanation, he didn’t tell his mom about this, but once Katsuki is in the picture and misunderstood the situation, Izuku just had to hell him. Also, Izuku being the only person whom Katsuki has been emotionally open to (he has shown both weakness and vulnerability to no one except for Izuku), despite having other friends he could have confined to, shows just how deep their relationship is as to what most claim to view it. You don’t just go showing and venting your pent up frustrations and troubles to someone you claim to “hate.” Let me also state that, once Katsuki found out Izuku wasn’t lying and did manage to burrow someone’s quirk, he took Izuku seriously and when he finally found out that Izuku was All Might’s successor and was able to clear up a bit of their misunderstandings in the past, he was willing to change. He even gave Izuku an advice for his new move!
Katsudeku shipping does not romanticize abuse nor do we defend what Katsuki said to Izuku as justifiable, but what we do support is the fact that, despite their rocky relationship in the past which was full of misunderstandings, there’s just too much good and potential in their relationship to bloom into something beautiful and positive. There are too many instances where these two boys have inspired each other to perform better. They literally balance each other out. The manga has given us scenes where Katsuki has positively influenced Izuku’s growth both as an individual and as a hero. They motivate and inspire each other to reach their dreams. Katsudeku shipping supports the growth, development, and depth of their relationship and it’s potential for a positive and beautiful relationship/ And honestly, I don’t find this abusive and I will continue to defend it despite what others claims to view this relationship as.
3.) And lastly, just the fact that you were immature enough to send this message to me without facts or reason other than wanting to make me feel bad for shipping something that I like is what I find so wrong about this message. I like what I ship, so let me ship it peacefully. I didn’t come here to ruin nor insult other people for shipping what they want, so let me and the other katsudeku shippers be. I get that you and many others may not agree with this, but quite frankly, we don’t give a damn. Spending the time to write insulting massages like this to other people when you can easily avoid the katsudeku tags is honestly a waste of your time and mine as well.
So, hopefully, this will be the last time someone tries to insult me for shipping what i like.
(Also, the fact that Katsuki was willing to admit and take the blame for Izuku and the fact that Izuku was also willing to point out it wasn’t just Katsuki’s fault just goes to show how much these two have grown both as an individual and in their relationship.)
Stay Away
Who: Peter Parker
Stay away from her, Parker.”
“God damn it, Peter!” Tony snarled as he jolted out of his suit. “I told you to stay away from her!” He scrambled to [Y/N]’s side, kneeling in the rubble and dirt. Gently lifting her head from the ground, he waved his hand over her motionless body and spoke quietly. “Vitals, Friday.”
“Unable to detect heartbeat.” Friday spoke.
Tony could feel the tears building but he wouldn’t dare let them fall. Not right now, not in front of the reckless teenager standing in a suit he had made. Clenching his jaw, “Scan again.”
“But, sir-”
“I said scan again!” Tony growled. His hand stroking the young girl’s hair from her bruised face.
“Scanning…” Friday prompted. “Still unable to detect heartbeat.”
Clenching his jaw again, Tony contemplated his next words. He wanted so badly to scream, yell, and kick the kid’s ass but he knew a better way to let it sink in. Gently placing [Y/N]’s lifeless body back against the ground, he wiped away a tear and sniffled to regain composure. Licking his lips, he avoided Peter’s horrified gaze. “This is on you.”
“Mr. Stark, I, this, she-”
“-no, listen and you listen good.” Tony snapped. His eyes piercing through Peter’s like glass. His finger pointed to [Y/N], “I gave you one rule that I told you to never break. It was to leave her out of it. Everything else you did was fine, I’d clean up the mess. You’re just a kid who’s still figuring out things and that’s a little bit annoying but I get it. But, you dragged her into this fight and she’s dead because of you.”
Tony stepped out his line of sight, “Do you see her, Peter? Do you see her lying there? That’s on you.” Walking towards Peter, he stopped right before he passed him. “She was the closest thing I had left of having a family.” Scoffing back some tears, Tony pushed on, leaving Peter standing there.
He was just a kid.
A kid that wanted to defy everyone that was against him. A kid that wanted to prove that he was good enough. A kid that wanted to see the silver lining in every situation. A kid that just wanted someone to understand what he was going through.
And she was just like him.
[3]
I enjoy the fact that this is far from a happy announcement. But then, I mean, how many of them have that many pleasant memories to begin with? Odds are this is gonna be terrible.
I mean, except for Sakura. She probably has the highest ratio of good to bad memories, but she doesn’t even HAVE them all. And besides, if we’re at the ruins it’s not exactly boding well for the possibility of a fun trip.
ALSO DO YOU THINK FAI IS RELIEVED THAT THE MEMORY MAGIC DIDN’T USE HIS MEMORIES THIS TIME AS WELL?
OR DO YOU THINK HE KNOWS SOMETHING ABOUT THE RUINS?
WE CAN’T SEE HIS FACE AND IT’S MAKING ME SUSPICIOUS.
Oh, ok. That makes a lot more sense.
But also, if other people set this up, how many people have experienced this part of Sakura’s memories? How many people have seen this part of her that even SHE doesn’t have back yet?
Also; Fai you little shit.
The first sign
It’s funny how time flies by when you’re not looking at the clock, but when you do watch the clock, time seems to move slower. I drummed my fingers against the kitchen table as I slowly watched the second hand take its sweet time to move around the clock. Y/N was 29 minutes late. She’s never late and I was beginning to get worried something might have happened. If she was working late, she would have called or texted me to let me know. But tonight, she didn’t and I couldn’t help but think of the worst.
Just give her one more minute, I thought to myself as I pulled out my phone. Instead of looking at the clock on the wall, I looked at the time on the phone. Why must the last minute take the longest?
Can I have a scenario where mc tells the rfa that her parents are calling her home (she's abroad) because they put her in an arranged marriage, not like an angsty one, maybe they try and work it out with their parents. thank you 😊
Sure! Hope you like it!
Zen:
  • Zen notices you’ve been distancing yourself from him a little more
  • Not very much, but you’re answering a lot of phone calls lately
  • He gets really worried when he hears you getting upset over a call one day
  • He listens behind the door when you actually start crying
  • From what he can understand, you’re having a bit of a disagreement with your parents
  • He understands that and confronts you about it
  • You explain that your parents want you to return home and are pressuring you to marry this guy
  • You didn’t want to burden him with the news
  • Of course, he couldn’t care less about that and encourages you to speak up next time
  • He has you schedule a skype call with your parents
  • You introduce him as a friend, not your boyfriend
  • When he hears you parents are just worried for your career, he offers you a job as his manager on the spot
  • After a few calls and discussions with your parents, they compromised and agreed to let you stay
  • It took a few months more before you could finally open up about your relationship wtih Zen though
  • It all worked out in the end, and your parents really liked him
Yoosung:
  • You left your phone at his house one night
  • He was going to return to you the next day but it kept vibrating like crazy in the middle of the night
  • He had picked it up to shut it down or see if it was an emergency, but he saw some guy’s name
  • He would be lying if he didn’t have his doubts, especially since the guy seemed pretty friendly
  • Still trying not to freak out, he asks you calmly what’s going on when he returns the phone
  • You explain the situation that the guy is someone your parents want you to marry
  • You say you didn’t want to leave Yoosung, that’s why you didn’t say anything so far
  • After that, he understood the pressure you were under
  • He offered to call your parents himself to work things out
  • Of course, you refuse, but you ask him to be present for support as you discuss things with your parents
  • Your parents give you a trial period where they tell you to get a stable job or a way to support your studying abroad
  • Yoosung helps you get a scholarship, helping with essays, finding volunteer work, etc.
  • When you succeed, your parents allow you to stay, but they still pressure you to marry the other guy
  • That’s when you mention Yoosung is studying hard to be a doctor
  • They’re very impressed when they meet him during a video call and give their blessing
Jaehee:
  • Jaehee notices you’ve been logging into the chatroom less these days
  • When she invites you to lunch to talk, you come clean
  • You start explaining that your parents can’t support you living abroad
  • More than that, they chose a guy who they thought would be able to support you
  • But you really didn’t want to leave Korea or the RFA
  • Jaehee listens to your struggles and is sad that you feel so pressured
  • She approaches you a few days later and confesses that she’s been saving up to start a cafe
  • She offers you to be her partner and also her roommate, if you both lived in a bigger apartment
  • You tell your parents and they’re really iffy about it
  • Still they agree to let you try it for a few months
  • The business goes really well and you’re really enjoying the friendship and time with Jaehee
  • When your parents call the next time to check on you, you announce you can completely support yourself at this point
  • You’re also living in a safer place, which reassures them
  • They actually want to meet Jaehee
  • They think she was a good influence on you
  • They aren’t wrong
Jumin:
  • As soon as you ended that phone call with your parents, you told him
  • He understood exactly what you were going through
  • He’s very calm about it
  • He doesn’t let you fret about it much either, and says you’ll work it out together
  • He spends quality time with you for the next few days to get your mind off of it
  • Finally, he says he wants to talk to your parents
  • He flies both you and him to your country on his jet
  • Your parents, unbeknownst to you, had also invited a guy they wanted you to marry to the dinner with you and Jumin
  • Jumin stayed completely professional and calm about it though
  • While your parents weren’t thrilled with Jumin at first, there was no beating Jumin at dinner
  • His character far outshone the other man
  • Your parents genuinely liked him and were willing to compromise the situation
  • In the end, they agreed to both you staying abroad and dating Jumin
  • Jumin admits later that he was nervous, but glad it worked out in the end
Seven:
  • You both had promised not to keep secrets from each other
  • So, you told him about how your parents had recently messaged you about moving back
  • And they had even found a guy they wanted you to marry
  • He listened to you vent and promised he would help work it out
  • But when you weren’t around, he secretly did some research on the guy
  • Of course, doubts started to creep in and he felt conflicted
  • He could see this other guy was more normal and stable in his life and career
  • But at the same time, Seven didn’t want to give you up after all you two had been through
  • He didn’t want to tear you away from your family
  • But you both had already started forming a small one with Saeran
  • He expresses his concerns, and you respond that you want to see your parents and talk about it
  • And you want him to go with you
  • You agree and you both visit
  • You have a sit down with them…and a really long talk
  • Coffee was offered, tears were shed, tissues were everywhere
“Look, kid, there’s a lot going on here that you don’t understand.”
“Stark said you’d say that.”
Tonky deliberately prevented Peter from hearing out the full context of the situation aka he! manipulated! him! He brought him into the situation completely biased instead of finding someone, a superpowered adult who’d more likely understand his perspective and be willing to fight alongside him without lying and bribing.
And then Tonky has the nerve to turn around and act like a so-called ”mentor” in Homecoming. I mean, we don’t even know if he ever actually explained why they were fighting in the first place which is just more dishonesty towards Peter who deserves a little more fucking credit as a intelligent teenager.
His first interactions with Peter Parker were bribing and manipulating him to fight the battles he created. That is not a good foundation for a mentor relationship much less a father-son relationship like fucking yikes.
Toto Stunk can choke okay.
Shots in the heart =/= “nice”
Please, British people, don’t ever allow Steven Moffat or Mark Gatiss to serve on juries for criminal cases. I seriously don’t trust their sense of what is okay in a legal or moral sense.
Fact: there is no “nice” way to shoot someone.
Even if you’re in some kind of hostage situation and being forced at gunpoint to shoot someone else, or you have no other option in self-defence other than shooting someone in a way meant to slow them down, there are a whole lot of other places to aim for which are not THE HEART. That? Is not nice. The leg: still seriously not nice, but it’s not THE BLOODY HEART. If Mary just “needed” - and that’s fully debatable, given that what she thought she “needed” was to be able to continue lying about absolutely everything to John for the rest of their rest - was to have Sherlock incapacitated (aka, unable to talk to John about her, or pursue her) - then she could have done what she did to Magnussen: she could have knocked him out. But she didn’t. She chose, instead of accepting his offer of help, instead of just asking him to keep her secret, or help her find a way to tell John the truth, instead of literally ANY other options, Mary chose to shoot him in the heart.
And Moffat thinks this was - I’m sorry, it’s difficult to even type. Nice?????
It was not nice. Nothing about that was nice. It was not okay, and Mary sure as hell did need redemption. This is literally the definition of a psychopath, not being able to tell the difference between right and wrong. I guess that’s fine for Moffat????? I don’t really care about his personal life? But what it’s not okay for is these two characters: the man who thinks he’s a high-functioning sociopath and the adrenaline junkie doctor who can’t seem to leave the war zone behind: they’re flawed, interesting, but ultimately GOOD men. That’s the pinnacle the whole series was supposed to be leading to all along. Flawed - but good. Mary was occasionally good (I say with extreeeeeeeeeme dubiousness) - but ultimately bad. She was without remorse. She didn’t have a “difficult background” or however they put it: she was a criminal. Mary being in their lives put Sherlock and John in cahoots with the very sort of person they have always opposed. It’s exactly what I said in this post: Mary’s presence in their lives destroyed the moral centre of the show.
She was not good. And that was NOT nice. Fucking hell, Moftiss!!
