smtiva pokemon au
I had a really unnecessarily convoluted one that I’m discarding because nah. There is no edge in Pokemon.
Nanashi and Asahi are kids from….shit, what’s a good Poke-town name for Kinshicho? [Pun about silk] Town. Anyways, Asahi steals Manabu’s Togetic so they can go catch Pokemon, and then there’s some kind of incident, but nobody dies because that would be edgy. Asahi has an issue with being really swept up in the cool factor of being a Pokemon trainer and fixating on her progress compared to Nanashi rather than sitting down and paying attention to her Pokemon and to her own growth as a trainer and person on her own schedule.
Dagda is an UNNECESSARILY BITTER Zygarde Core who thinks humans are gross. But wired one into ZygardeNet ™ anyways because SHUT UP MOM look Nanashi aren’t humans awful, the ecosystem is awesome. Being an ecosystem is awesome. Being a human must SUCK HAHA please help me destroy humans, and then maybe be an ecosystem with me, it’s pretty cool (no you’re not my trainer) (this is different) (shut up)
Navarre is a Phantump. He is not a child, but he got fucking lost and died anyways. He is a completely normal Pokemon, but Nanashi can hear his voice. Nanashi caught him.
Hallelujah is a Team Ashura grunt, except instead of grunting around, he hangs around Leader Abe. Team Ashura is basically like Team Rocket but with a veneer of legitimacy because they do in fact run some public services and their villainy is less outright Pokemon abuse and more general low-key exploitation and bullying of everyone. Hallelujah is pretty sure he’s Nanashi and/or Asahi’s rival; the first couple of times they run into Abe on not-hostile terms he tells Hallelujah to go battle them for practice, and after that he tries to get in their way when they butt heads with Team Ashura because THAT’S WHAT HE’S SUPPOSED TO DO, RIGHT. Despite this, Asahi drags him along with them to get ice cream or whatever when she can, and he doesn’t resist very hard because he genuinely likes spending time as friends with them (and he is completely transparent about this). Eventually, after some conflict, he permanently joins the traveling group because he’ll grow more as a trainer and person out from under Team Ashura’s wing.
Chironnupu is a Fennekin with a perpetual blep. He never evolves.
Nozomi is a photographer who vanished into the wilderness some time ago but it turns out she’s been hanging out in this Pokemon sanctuary place, looking after the Pokemon there. There’s a sacred tree in the sanctuary that’s responsible for it being so abundant, because it used to be a Xerneas, and Xerneas’ lingering soul ended up inside Nozomi after she swore to protect the forest. She doesn’t go triapsing around the region with the group as readily as she does in canon because the situation is not….dire. She shows up when there’s a specific threat to the well-being of the region and Pokemon in general.
Xerneas and Zygarde (Zygda?) have perpetual verbal slapfights whenever they see each other because Xerneas wants everyone to be alive and happy and Zygarde is more concerned about BALANCE, OKAY, AND HUMANS KEEP FUCKING IT UP
Gaston is some rich dude idk. There’s not much you need to change about him to have it work, he’s just a really intense and haughty guy who’s an effective trainer in terms of strategy etc but man his Pokemon get tired of him sometimes. Nanashi is his rival because he’s a FUCKING catchstealer and Gaston does not ever, ever forgive or forget. He keeps barging ahead whenever there’s a hint of Trouble so that he can be the one to solve it first and everyone can know he did so.
Toki grew up in Team Gaea, which is made up of really, really intense trainers who believe in STRENGTH and FIGHTING POKEMON WITH YOUR BARE HANDS because MODERN TRAINERS ARE WEAK. She battles Nanashi once and immediately gets intense nemesis dokis that can only be cured by MORE BATTLE, through which she discovers that being a normal modern trainer who bonds with Pokemon instead of trying to fight them head-on is not that bad and actually kind of fun.
Flynn is the region’s rookie champ/whatever who is crazy skilled but also pretty sure he ended up here by accident because he is not performing up to his own standards with some of the bullshit he has to deal with.
Isabeau is his rivalfriend who is here to clean up what he can’t. She has a Gallade.
I want to think the Divine Powers are humans and Odin was Zygda’s old trainer who he had a bad trainer breakup with but that’s as far as I’ve got for that.
