OH MY GOOODDD!!!! D””X yOU WILLNEVER KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS ONE SINCE I ALWAYS WANTED TO DRAW THEM PAIR SKATE WITH YURIO WEARING THAT OUTFIT FROM A MAGAZINE ADKGFGFAKJAF IT’S LOOK PERFECTLY FIT WITH BEKA’S FREE SKATE COSTUME
D””X I SAW A COUPLE SO BEAUTIFUL I’M CRYIINNNGG D””X I use reference and actually traced the pose since it’s my first time drawing pair skate so I have no idea how to draw the poses. also avoiding weird gesture they didn’t actually do in real life pair skate lmao (everytime I saw some pair skate arts I always ask to myself “are the real skaters really did this kind of pose”) I put pretty good detail on Yurio’s costume because I loved it very much(he wears leopard prints again in here hahah)
people are like, " Marco has dimensional scissors, he'll go after Star." And I'm like, "Nah, y'all know he's been using those scissors for some late-night "skate lessons" from Jackie. He ain't gonna go after her."
The thing is…Star wont be home. They’re running AWAY from Toffee so living in the castle would literally be like FREE BUTTERFLY FAMILY GET EM WHILE THEY’RE HOT like …they’re going to live off the grid basically. Also the mewman people probably don’t even like them anyway. They’d get ripped up either way
I feel like Marco would go to Mewni looking for Star and just find nothing. He finds some old dolls of her and stuff from song day in the trash and that’s about it. No signs of her. He takes a doll though…..just so it wont go to waste
He has the laser puppies on a leash and he’s like “Here! Sniff.” and holds some article of clothing she left at his house (since she left so quickly she probably left TONS of stuff.) so the puppies try to track her down.
They lose her smell though and just start being puppies….running around chasing their tails and stuff. Marco wants to cry.
NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS Daisuke Takahashi & Stéphane Lambiel , two of the skaters Kubo drew inspiration from for Victor and Yuuri (both do voice work in the show), performing a joint routine choreographed by Kenji Miyamoto, who created all of the routines for YoI
Season 2 should just be Yuuri wearing Viktor’s shirts and them being domestic and cute and some skating [paired/coaching] happens in between??? There’s no drama because they know how to talk to each other like actual people in actual relationships???
Animation is about creating an illusion of movement by quickly playing multiple successive pictures together, and in this way, bringing a story to life.
Clearly, the Yuri!!! on ICE artwork during some of the latter skate scenes was not the quality we’d expect from a “best animation”-nominated show, but the attention to detail and actual animation during most of the scenes was quite evident? The YOI staff hired multiple choreographers and ice skating professionals so that they could get even the smallest details like sound, color, and positioning right.
Here’s an example of the attention to detail, as shown by not only the leg movement but also the ice movement:
Handpicking and comparing sub-par YOI screencaps to the best screencaps from another show is honestly quite unfair, as animation is not about a single picture. It is about playing multiple slightly-varied successive images quickly to create an appearance of movement.
To better argue my point, just looking at the following picture is not equivalent to evaluating YOI’s animation.
Even looking at this screenshot, which is clearly nicer than the prior one, is not a sufficient method of evaluating YOI’s animation
The following gif, however, is an example of animation:
It follows the term’s literal and common definition.
Let’s be clear. I’m not saying that YOI should have won the “best animation” category, as plenty of other nominees could have arguably taken its spot. I’m simply asking people to look at the show’s animation as a whole, rather than at a few screenshots taken on their phones.
I suddenly remember this video while watching this year’s GPF. It’s a 40 minutes video (with english subtitle) of Yuzuru Hanyu’s training before he got gold medal in 2014.
Rewatching this somehow reminds me of Yurio’s journey in YOI. How Yurio was really focused on quads and jumps at beginning until Yakov told him to do more basic training such as perfecting step sequences or what Bryan called as skating skills. Because in the end, jumps don’t always make you the best skater.
Anyway, for YOI fans who is now introduced to fun part of figure skating, please watch this video. It’s very knowledgeable and entertaining and at same time, very inspiring.
