Konstantin Melnikov
– date of death, 28/11/1974

«This is no doubt one of the most extraordinary and at the same time controversial constructions in Moscow for its period. The restricted site available was totally exploited. The external stairs project far out into the public streets. What is astonishing is the boldness with which the three corbel-shaped auditoriums, radially centered on a stage, project freely into the interior space. Although alterations have been made on the building, very sharply criticized by Melnikov at the present time - 1960′s (a great number of windows have been walled up, large letters in relief on the gables plastered over, etc), the building has lost nothing of its striking expressiveness.»
