Press Appreciation Post

I just want to take a moment and appreciate the champion that is Christen Press. She took all the pain and disappointment from the Olympics and used it as fire to play two great games to close out 2016. I’m glad the games were in California. It definitely boosted team morale, especially Christen’s spirit, being able to play in front of her friends and family.

Her ability to stay in the present, her cerebral play-style, and radiant smile make it impossible not to like her. To me, it doesn’t matter that she went to Stanford, broke records, had successful club seasons abroad and in the States, nor that she writes well. To me, her attitude is everything. It is both encouraging and motivating. Her journey is just beginning, and I’m excited for what she’ll bring in 2017.

“IF you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired waiting,

Or be lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet dont look too good, not talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;

If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build ‘em up with worn-out tools… “
