language, fluff, wishful thinking, angst, sadness, borderline depression, sarcasm, did I mention language? might be hard to read for lonely hearts like me.
A/N: Well, I did it…at least I tried. The lovely @minervaem challenged me (sort of) to do an angsty story, so here we go. I’m warning you now, it’s not gonna be pretty. Anyways, it’s only four parts, so only pre-existing permanent tags will be added to this story. Reminder: If you want to be removed from the permanent tag list you need to msg me! Sorry in advance. There’s four parts to this story.
i am making a club blog but i am not entirely sure how it’s gonna work yet. i’m thinking i’ll advertise it to you as a network and i’ll add anyone who wants to join to the blog. we can have an introvert club tag and the aim is going to be to:
- just to make friends (because i know introverts often find it hard to approach people!)
- share posts, headcanons, fanart, ficrecs, writing, etc. in the tag or blog ask box (not sure how it works yet)
- just be supportive
i’ll officially ask for members sometime this week and add you to the blog after you send me your name, age, mbti type (or whatever you’re comfortable with).
bear in mind that the club is all inclusive so there may be a mix of minors and older people. i myself am 18 so if that makes you uncomfortable, feel free to stick to just reblogging from this blog!
Anon, one day I am going to get you because oh my god!
Marco, he isn’t Marco yet but at this point that’s the name that he uses when he looks back on that time, is bored, he has been bored for ages and ages. Tired of his responsibilities and everything that being Death entails.
Until Ace, he’s not Ace yet is still War, smiles at him and asks him to play a game with him. Marco agrees because Ace always has the best games to play. It’s easy to pick human forms, finding parents for them to be born in human forms to. And the game starts.
Marco starts off on his own for ages because Ace had picked a man who had caused wars and would continue to do so long after his death. Ace had always had a soft spot for people like that, even if Ace’s opinion changes drastically after this.
There’s a caveat to their game, after all, it wouldn’t be a game if they didn’t have rules. They won’t remember who they are, they will be totally human until a specific point, a point that Ace picks for Marco and Marco picks for Ace. And that it has to be after they meet, they can’t remember before that.
It doesn’t stop Marco from flirting and teasing and falling in love with Ace. Ace denies him at first, trying to kill Whitebeard, and later Death will stare at his hands and blink back tears because he knows the exact date that each person he loves will die. But after Ace says yes and takes Whitebeard’s mark, Marco can see the way that Ace’s eyes follow him and the way he flusters when Marco teases him.
The short time between Ace finally, finally agreeing to go on a date with Marco and the happy times they have before everything starts to fall apart.
Death remembers when Thatch lays dead on the deck of the ship and he makes a choice, forcing Thatch to come back even though the dead will always know who he is if returned. He is Death, but that has never stopped him when he wants something after all. Even if Thatch comes back able to see what Marco really is, what Ace is even though he doesn’t remember just yet.
When Ace leaves, Marco stares after him and hates that he knows when Ace will remember their past because he picked out when Ace will remember. He knows exactly when Ace will be War again and it’s not time for that yet.
War comes back on the execution platform watching Whitebeard shake the ocean into an attack. War, who smirks and glances across the distance to where Death, Marco, is standing on the Moby and can’t wait. He’s vibrating out of his skin by the time Luffy releases him from the seastone chains because this is a war, fought for him, over him. For Ace, just Ace, it would have hurt and broken his heart. For War this is exactly what he’s always wanted.
But Luffy is still his little brother and War is still Ace and he will always, always protect his brother. The difference is that this body might be mortal but War isn’t and it likes this form enough to keep it. Which is why instead of collapsing, War, running high on the extra power from this war, this fight fought for him, easily heals and forces Akainu away.
Besides, Death wouldn’t let him leave, their game isn’t over just yet.
