LET'S TALK ABOUT THE OLYMPIC GAMES OPENING CEREMONY
I am brazilian. And all my life all I saw about my country was a bad side. Poverty, hunger, illiteracy, culture loss in a desperate attempt to look like USA or European countries. And for me, the so heard “brazilian strength”, “brazilian happiness”, would never be enough to make up for all the lacks in this country. I believed it would be the best to simply leave Brazil and start a new life somewhere else.
Today, for the first time in my whole life, I feel proud. I saw my country’s history with no make up, no glamourization. I saw my country’s music, my country’s dances, my country’s culture, my country’s ideas, my country’s soul. I felt blessed for living in such a beautiful place. I cried because of how happy and proud I feel. I fell in love with my country. I finally felt like I belong somewhere. And there are just not enough words to describe what I feel.
Originally Mexico’s Independence is tomorrow (it was in the midnight from 15 to 16) but we always begin to celebrate it today. This happened back in 1810 when Miguel Hidalgo made “El Grito” in which he encouraged the people to take anything they found as weapon and begin the fight against Spanish people to become an independent nation.
It’s sometimes annoying to see foreigners believing 5 de Mayo is Mexico’s Independence day, that’s incorrect that day is the celebration of la Batalla de Puebla, it’s different. I’m writing this just as an informative thing of why you found Mexico’s post on your dash because I reblogged them hehe sorry.
Anyways, I’m a proud Mexican who feels so blessed to be living in a country like this. Yeah we have many problems and difficulties just like any other country but I would never deny nor change my nationality, to me it’s one of the best things I will ever have in my life. We live in a holy land full of beauty and happiness, people here are happy even with our limitations and I guess that’s something no one will ever take away from us. If you ever want to come to Mexico don’t miss the chance because I can promise you, it’ll be an unforgettable experience and people will treat you as a friend more than just a tourist :)
okay I’m not really one for patriotic god bless America stuff but… America is actually a really cool place to live bc for one country there is SO MUCH to see and do and there is always stuff going on everywhere and there’s such a variety of cultures and people and geography and ideologies like… obviously morally and socially and politically there is a lot I would change… but in general it is a beautiful place and very cool and I’ve seen and done so much and even if I move to another country some day I’ll always be really glad I grew up here I think
“No one has penetrated the mystery of Christ in all its depths except the Blessed Virgin … compared with the light given to Our Lady, the saints remain in shadow. The secret which she kept and pondered in her Heart, no tongue can tell, no pen record. This Mother is going to form my soul so that her little child may be a living, striking image of her ‘First-born’, the Eternal Son, the One Who was the perfect praise of His Father’s glory. When I read in the Gospel that Mary went with haste into the hill country of Judah to fulfill her duty of charity to her cousin Elizabeth, I see her pass on her way, so beautiful, so calm and majestic, so recollected in the presence of God within her! Her prayer, like His, was always 'Ecce! Here I am!’ Who? … 'the handmaid of the Lord,’ the least of His creatures, she, His Mother!
"She was truly humble because she was always oblivious of self, unconscious of self, freed from self! … She is also the Queen of Martyrs, but again it was her soul that was 'pierced by the sword’ for with her everything takes place within … How beautiful she is to contemplate … so enveloped in a majesty which breathes forth strength and gentleness … She is there at the foot of the Cross, and my Master says to me, 'Behold your Mother.’ He gives her to me as my Mother! She is still there to teach me to suffer as He did, to make known to me the last utterances of His soul, which she alone, His Mother, was able to catch. It is Our Lady, full of light, pure with the divine purity, who will take me by the hand to lead me into heaven, that realm of dazzling brightness.”
~ Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity (1880-1906):
Mary, Chaste Spouse of the Holy Spirit, pray for us.
