Hi guys! Here’s a little masterpost of quotes from children’s books that you can use in your bullet journal, or anywhere else you feel like!

THE LITTLE PRINCE (ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPÉRY)

  • “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
  • “The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.”
  • “You become responsible forever for what you’ve tamed.”
  • “You - you alone will have the stars as no one else has them…In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night…You - only you - will have stars that can laugh.”
  • “Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them”
  • “A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral.”

A LITTLE PRINCESS (FRANCES HODGSON BURNETT)

  • “If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside. It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it.”
  • “When you will not fly into a passion people know you are stronger than they are, because you are strong enough to hold in your rage, and they are not, and they say stupid things they wish they hadn’t said afterward. “
  • “There’s nothing so strong as rage, except what makes you hold it in–that’s stronger. It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies.”
  • “If nature has made you for a giver, your hands are born open, and so is your heart; and though there may be times when your hands are empty, your heart is always full, and you can give things out of that–warm things, kind things, sweet things–help and comfort and laughter–and sometimes gay, kind laughter is the best help of all.”
  • “Somehow, something always happens just before things get to the very worst. It is as if Magic did it. If I could only just remember that always. The worse thing never quite comes.”
  • “But I suppose there might be good in things, even if we don’t see it.”
  • “You don’t forget, but you bear it better.”

LITTLE WOMEN (LOUISA MAY ALCOTT)

  • “I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.”
  • “It’s wicked to throw away so many good gifts because you can’t have the one you want.”
  • “Love is a great beautifier.”
  • “Watch and pray, dear, never get tired of trying, and never think it is impossible to conquer your fault.”
  • “I want to do something splendid…something heroic or wonderful that won’t be forgotten after I’m dead. I don’t know what, but I’m on the watch for it and mean to astonish you all someday.”
  • “Conceit spoils the finest genius.”
  • “Be comforted, dear soul! There is always light behind the clouds.”
  • “Life and love are very precious when both are in full bloom.”
  • “The only chivalry worth having is that which is the readiest to to pay deference to the old, protect the feeble, and serve womankind, regardless of rank, age, or color.”
  • “Books are always good company if you have the right sort.”
  • “The humblest tasks get beautified if loving hands do them.”
  • “Now and then, in this workaday world, things do happen in the delightful storybook fashion, and what a comfort that is.”

MATLIDA (ROALD DAHL)

  • “So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.”
  • “Never do anything by halves if you want to get away with it. Be outrageous. Go the whole hog. Make sure everything you do is so completely crazy it’s unbelievable…”
  • “I have found it impossible to talk to anyone about my problems. I couldn’t face the embarrassment, and anyway I lack the courage. Any courage I had was knocked out of me when I was young. But now, all of sudden I have a sort of desperate wish to tell everything to somebody.”
  • “I’ve always said to myself that if a little pocket calculator can do it why shouldn’t I?”
  • “There is little point in teaching anything backwards. The whole object of life, Headmistress, is to go forwards.”
  • “I’m afraid men are not always quite as clever as they think they are.”

THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH (NORTON JUSTER)

  • “So many things are possible just as long as you don’t know they’re impossible.”
  • “Have you ever heard the wonderful silence just before the dawn? Or the quiet and calm just as a storm ends? Or perhaps you know the silence when you haven’t the answer to a question you’ve been asked, or the hush of a country road at night, or the expectant pause of a room full of people when someone is just about to speak, or, most beautiful of all, the moment after the door closes and you’re alone in the whole house? Each one is different, you know, and all very beautiful if you listen carefully.”
  • “Time is a gift, given to you, given to give you the time you need, the time you need to have the time of your life. ”
  • “You must never feel badly about making mistakes … as long as you take the trouble to learn from them. For you often learn more by being wrong for the right reasons than you do by being right for the wrong reasons.”
  • “The most important reason for going from one place to another is to see what’s in between.”
  • “What you can do is often simply a matter of what you will do.”
  • “What you learn today, for no reason at all, will help you discover all the wonderful secrets of tomorrow.”
  • “Whatever we learn has a purpose and whatever we do affects everything and everyone else, if even in the tiniest way.”

THE GOLDEN COMPASS (PHILIP PULLMAN)

  • “You cannot change what you are, only what you do.”
  • “We are all subject to the fates. But we must act as if we are not, or die of despair.”
  • “Every opportunity will come again.”

Can you believe straight people can watch the search for spock and not…wonder for a second…why the hell all that gay stuff is happening

How deluded must u be

This was originally posted by /u/Cloudy_Wealth on /r/mensrights here:

I didn’t post the source originally because nothing on my blog gets more than like, 5 notes.

This is from a college campus. Here’s my interpretation:

“Women, you are always victims and there’s no way you could ever possibly hurt a man. Society loves you and cares about you, stay safe and be careful around those dangerous men!”

“Men, you’re monsters and latent rapists so keep it in your pants and don’t even look at a woman the wrong way. The best thing you can be is a meat shield. Oh and we’ll throw in number 10 for you, but we didn’t tell women anything about your consent and they can’t rape you so it’s really just a throw away.”

Fuck you to whoever wrote these. You do not give a shit about men. Stop pretending with your pathetic, bullshit attempt at number 10. I would have preferred it if you were more honest and just told us that we were rape machines that can’t be sexually assaulted because what a woman wants matters more, even if she wants to fuck one of us and then charge us with rape because she doesn’t want her boyfriend to find out she cheated. How the fuck do people wonder why men are checking out? It’s this shit right here. HERE is your answer.

Dear feminists,

When men end up as despondent shells of human beings that are too frightened to even hint at their desires, this will be why. When men are terrified of anything sexual, this will be why. When men are terrified of women, this will be why. When men hate themselves, this will be why. When men kill themselves, this will be why.

Society has sent men a very clear message. We are monsters. Women are angels. We are bullet proof. Women are glass. We have no feelings. Women have more emotions than we could possibly understand. We are disposable. Women must be protected at all cost. Our lives do not matter. The lives of women do.

Feminists, if feminism is for equality, then please, for the love of god, stand up and say something about this. If you don’t, you empowered women will end up with a generation of men that are dead inside. I want a future of strong and capable men and women. I’d certainly be desperately sad if I was looking at a future where the woman I might some day fall in love with was but a shell of her former self by the time I met her. I want to stand shoulder to should with her and take on the world. I’d tear down anything that stood in the way of that. So please, step up and help put a stop to this.

Or, are you the ones encouraging it? And if you are, how in the hell is this equality?

Sincerely, a man who’s trying not to become a shell.

Bar Ettiquette

Not many of my followers know, but I’m a bartender and after this weekend (and for the last 5 years) I thought I’d make a quick a simple list of bar manners to mind.

  • If you use a lime after a shot do not stick your gross ass chewed up lime on the bar. Put it back into the shot glass, on a napkin or find a trash can for the love of god.
  • If you don’t want a straw in your drink, either say so when you order or put in on a napkin or throw it away. Again, do not stick it in your mouth, suck on it and leave your spit straw on the counter. Have you no manners?
  • Don’t yell. Use your manners.
  • I know it looks like I will never look into your beautiful, drink starved eyes, but I can see you even if I’m not looking at you. Trust me
  • If I am not looking at you, I’m not taking your order. If I look at your eyes, that’s a sign that I’m ready to take your order. Which I am not, so don’t wave your hand in front of my face to make me look at you. I might forget what I’m doing an take even longer. You’re only hurting yourself.
  • If you are ordering multiple drinks, order them all at once. Not one at a time. You get your drinks faster and everyone around you can get served faster as well. It’s a win-win.
  • I don’t care what you drink, honestly. Like, drink a long island. Or a lemon drop. It makes my gut hurt because sugar. But I Don’t Care. And neither should you, so don’t make shitty comments the person next to you when they order.
  • Unless you’re putting red bull in grey goose. Save yourself some cash and just get well vodka.
  • I take it back, there was one time someone ordered a pint glass of half & half and a shot of malibu rum in it and I thought i was going to die.
  • If I ask you if you want a back/chaser for your shot I’m not questioning your masculinity or giving you a test. I just want to know. It’s easier to do it all at once.
  • I don’t know that one special drink at another bar, but tell me what you like about it and I’ll try to find you an alternative.
  • Please. Please don’t ask me to just pour you whatever. Especially when it’s busy. I have to hold back the urge to pour you a shot of grape pucker and call it a day.
  • If you ask me for a “girly” or “pussy” drink I will pour you fernet branca because I am both girly, in possession of a vagina and that’s all I drink. You’ll regret it.
  • If you order something gay I will pour you whiskey because that’s what all my gay male friends drink. They also drink fernet as well. It’s a toss up there.
  • In fact. I serve women, gay men/women and straight dudes all about the same when it comes to whiskey. It’s strange how gender and sexuality have nothing to do with the types of alcohol you drink.
  • The correct terminology you are looking for is “fruity” or “mixed”
  • Anyway. Someone once asked for both. After I responded with fernet to his “pussy” shot request, he ordered a “gay” shot.
  • So I told him I’d make him a gay shot called a dick in his mouth.
  • I did.
  • He told me it was “a little stiff”
  • I told him if there’s a dick in his mouth, you better hope it’s stiff.

Black tumblr biggest flaw is being so critical of every move you make.

You can’t be a dark skin and date someone who isn’t black. Or date someone who isn’t as dark as they are. Or date someone who is light skin. Bitch they black too! You can’t police who a person falls in love with. You can still be pro-black and love who you love. Y'all be so quick to throw somebody away.

Y'all gotta chill out. Sometimes it’s not that deep. And we can’t tell some of y'all a damn thing. Deadass though lighten up a little. Stay in your lane and mind your damn business. And some of y'all so damn fickle to believe any and everything you see on here. Man, do your research. Shit. Ask questions.

Just relax for real.

Let people be. Everything doesn’t deserve a drag lol sheesh.

maybe we all have that one person that we’d always take back. bruised mouth, bloody ribs, you’re screaming at me and i’m taking it because no matter how bad it gets, there is always good to follow. and that’s what a lot of people don’t understand, the people who ask me why i can’t see the signs of an unhealthy relationship, why i can’t just walk away - that the good days outweigh the bad ones. i would walk away from you screaming one thousand times just to fall into your arms at the end of the night. i’ve learned how to catch your punches. i’ve learned how to find the beauty in pain. and i know: i should find happiness within myself or at least within people who are good for me, but i can’t help the way i feel and i can’t just leave something that makes me so happy. i will take you back until you literally throw me away.

Iwaoi Week Day 4: Holiday (ish)

Hajime swallows, looking down at the text message from Tooru. His entire body freezes, chills running up his spine.

Received: 2:25 am.

Come over, please.

He needs to go. It’s pitch black, the middle of the night, but he needs to go.

He’s been planning on going anyways - a post-graduation trip, a vacation before university - his parents will understand if he leaves a little bit early. Tooru wasn’t supposed to come with him, his parents hadn’t allowed it, but, well - plans change. They’ll understand that too, probably. Tooru’s been his tag-along ever since they met fourteen years ago now, when Tooru’s family appeared next door, changing Hajime’s life forever.

Sent: 2:32 am.

I’m on my way.

He’s had his bag packed for the last week. He’s nothing if not prepared. Enough spare clothes to last him a week, but he grabs a spare and starts throwing in more. Sweatpants, shirts, socks, a sweater. All ones that he knows will fit Tooru.

He doesn’t know what’s happened this time; all he knows is that it’s the last time he’s letting Tooru go back there.

He scribbles a note out for his parents, but he’ll call them when the sun comes up and they’ve got miles between them and home. They won’t be pleased, but he’ll explain. They’ll understand. They always do - they love him.

He wishes he could say the same for Tooru.

The night air is brisk, when he finally steps out his back door, two bags in hand, red sneakers on his feet. It’s dark; the moon is the only light shining down on his backyard, illuminating his path with an eerie glow. He slips through the gap in the fence behind his house, kicking up dirt as he steps into Tooru’s backyard, the only place more familiar to him than his own home.

He squints, stepping closer, making out a figure sitting on the back steps. It has to be him - he looks up as Hajime approaches, fluffy hair shining under the moonlight.

“Iwa-chan?” Tooru’s voice is low, and quiet; he sniffles, rubbing at his eyes with the back of his hand. He’s huddled against himself on the steps of his back door, clutching his sweatshirt - no, Hajime’s - close to his frame.

It’s not fair, it’s not fair, this isn’t fair-

“Let’s go,” he says, holding a hand out to Tooru.

Tooru hesitates, looking down at Hajime’s hand, afraid.

Don’t look back.

Can’t look back.

“You’re sure it’s okay?” He asks, reaching out, fingers touching Hajime’s, sending sparks of electricity up his arm. Hajime doesn’t let him second-guess it, lacing their fingers together and tugging on his arm, dragging him to his feet.

Tooru moves, but winces as he stands, weight leaning against Hajime. His hair is damp, and he smells of his favourite apple shampoo.

“Of course it is. I need you with me,” Hajime responds, thumb rubbing circles on the back of Tooru’s hand. “Will you come?” He asks, voice shaking.

He has to come. Please, please, please-

“Yes,” Tooru answers, his grip tightening on Hajime’s hand. “I, I didn’t- I can’t go back in-”

“I packed a bag for you,” Hajime supplements, taking a step back and pulling him to his feet. “You don’t need to.”

Never again.

Tooru nods, looking a little numb, but he follows. He stays close, pressed up against Hajime; his body is cold, and Hajime wonders how long he’s been sitting out here, by himself, waiting.

No longer.

Hajime walks him back to his car, opening the passenger door for him. Tooru slides in; the lights illuminate him and he looks pale, and tired. His eyes are red from crying.

Hajime grips the handle of the door a little tighter, slamming it shut.

It’s okay. They’re getting out.

He opens the driver’s side door, sliding into the car. Keys in the ignition spring the car to life, and Hajime flicks on his lights, letting the radio buzz to life.

“Where are we going?” Tooru asks, buckling up, curling up.

Hajime reaches back into the back seat to pull up the blanket he keeps back there, passing it to Tooru, who lets it drape from his figure.

“Away,” he answers, putting the car into drive. Tooru’s shoulders sag, relief flooding his system. “Far away.”

Unexpected

I saw some people talking about the “Stiles comes back from college hot” trope, and it reminded me that I needed to make a seperate post for this fic!

Inspired by this post. (On AO3)

He’d been hoping for a reaction.

If he was being honest, he’d actually been anticipating a reaction.

While he’d been away at school, he’d started meeting people and making new friends. Some of those friends had turned out to be fitness guys, who loved running and working out. Stiles had ended up accompanying them on numerous gym trips, until eventually he liked it enough to just go, with or without them. He’d liked the feeling of being stronger, being able to trust his body to do what he wanted.

He’d become more confident with his looks, and started accepting invitations to parties. He’d started buying better-fitting clothes to show off his physique, and felt incredibly flattered when he was flirted with often. He’d kissed a lot of people, talked to a lot more, learned as much as he could, and even hooked up a few times.

oh, speaking of Lord Vetinari, i just thought about our introduction to him as a major character in Guards! Guards! and his first interactions with Sam Vimes, and the Lord Vetinari shown in later books.

yes, Terry Pratchett was fleshing out his characters as the series progressed, but I really think, that while Vetinari will always be the same character introduced in G!G!, he became a better person, very subtly so, hidden beneath his dictator mantle, because of Sam Vimes.

And not, “better person” suddenly becomes a super good guy, but Vetinari I think becomes more aware of the little people, the everyday people, through the Watch, and also in dealing with Sam, and seeing Sam become lit with very tightly contained righteous fury at all the injustice in the world.

Sam might’ve been allowed peeks into the inner thoughts and mechanization of Vetinari’s mind, and boggled at how complex and dark it was, but I think the constant vigilance of Sam against anything despotic kept Vetinari slightly more human.  Sam inadvertently, through his own very nature, kept Vetinari in check.

i. I know I told you this, but I haven’t heard from you in a while and I just wanted to remind you that I left the ball in your court. That I will sacrifice my happiness and give you another chance, all you have to do is reach out and tell me you don't want to throw this friendship away.

ii. So by the looks of it you are having a lot of fun with your new friends, don’t get me wrong I’m happy you found happiness. But I just want to make sure that this isn’t you escaping your past and letting these new friends be a band-aid for old wounds. I am here if you ever want to talk.

iii. I miss you. I can’t believe this happened again, that after reconnecting you chose to put me second again. You hurt me more than I thought. And I know I told you that you were hurting me, and you said you were sorry; but are you?

iv. Do you miss me? Or have you replaced me enough to forget me? Because I worry about you every day, your state of mind and if you’re being kind to yourself. But when I picture how you’re spending your day, I can't imagine you missing me.

v. I am no stranger to the notion of people leaving me. I have been told ‘forever’ only for 'forever’ to expire later on. This isn’t new for me, missing people is almost routine for me. But you linger more than others. You creep up on me.

vi. I thought I would be able to move on, because you hurt me so bad. But turns out you too are a bad addiction of mine that I just can’t shake.

—  Texts I would text you if I ever got drunk enough and brave enough.

I made some dried orange peel today! It is very fragrant and 1 orange makes about 2 tbsp of orange peel.

I peeled an orange (make sure you get as much pulp off as possible), cut it into tiny pieces, preheat oven to 200 F, bake them on parchment paper for about an hour or until they are dry, or leave them out for 4-5 days. So easy to make and made from what you usually throw away!
