Working with and training foster dogs is really, really fucking heartbreaking because half the time we discover that the dogs that come in with claimed problems (biting, dog aggression, anxiety, etc) don’t have problems at all in the our environment, with people who know how to control their energy and give them little jobs and fulfill them. We’ll have dogs here with ‘severe issues’ that are just responding to their current owner/ shelter, and when we try to train the people they’re SO AGAINST accepting ANY responsibility for the dog’s behavior.
We’ll train a dog here for three weeks, teach them how to cope, teach them how to coexist with people and other dogs
then they go home and get put down the next day because the handlers don’t listen to a single thing we tell them. Perfectly healthy, friendly dogs.
It kills me.
