so i was actually going to make a different gifset and then i watched this scene on my way to it

The future - and it is showing us this loud and clear

This episode was amazing. After flailing and basically shouting all day I am so happy and so excited that I joined tumblr - the quality of posts today has been excellent, both humorous and inciteful and I LOVE YOU ALL :)

I hope its ok I’m going to tag a few great posts in this to reference as I don’t want to go over stuff other people have already meta-d about so excellently!

This episode, titled the future, seems to me to be Dabb basically telling us what he wants for the next part of the show, the “better way” that he wants to take it.

So here are my main bullet points that I will expand on a little below and link those excellent posts to where relevant:

A. Sam

Sam is clearly portrayed again, recurrently as the researcher, the “brains” of the operation (before you say ‘Dean is so clever though!’ I’m just pointing out Sam’s love of the scholarly side of things and how this is where he fits). Sam’s endgame must now be to head up the MoL/hunter network in this respect.

B. Sam and Dean

They work so well as a team here, Sam putting a tracker in Cas’s phone while he’s distracted by Dean, researching v whatever Dean was doing (maybe making a pining mixtape along the lines of “all by myself” and “I miss you” “please come home”, BUT they are shown as different people, with different interests, skills and relationships - with Cas for example, & not codependent. Again hammering this home in this episode. THANK YOU DABB, GLYNN & BERENS.

This whole episode is one big love fest. We went from one ‘wow I can’t believe they just did that!’ to the next to the next with hardly enough time for us to catch out breath! WHAT WAS THIS EPISODE?!

OK, so we have :

1. My Romeo & Juliet / Gaze up Trope Balcony Meta.

2. The Mixtape Meta, another EXPLICIT romantic trope by @drsilverfish.

3. The Dean “keep it” parallels, the first one that came to my mind was Arwen (another human+ / eternal being who decided to relinquish immortality couple):

Aragon: this belongs to you.
Arwen: keep it, it was a gift… it is mine to give to whom I will, like my heart.

But also all the other ‘gift’ tropes, the standard romantic trope that when a couple breaks up you return the gifts…. I think Cas wasn’t sure he was going to be forgiven, after Dean’s outburst in the war room, so he goes to return the cassette, but Dean does forgive him nearly instantaneously, which actually makes it even worse that he has to steal the colt straight after…

5. The difference between Sastiel and Destiel again emphasised, more and more this season. I don’t think I even have to detail this, just, basically the whole episode shows this.

6. This magnificent gifset by @magnificent-winged-beast which shows the difference between Dean’s angst at actually watching the colt get destroyed and the potential killing of Cas…

Slight aside - Performing!Dean.

This magnificent gifset that shows Dean’s facade coming down, he doesn’t even attempt to make it sound less ‘gay’ when he tells Sam that Cas came to his room, played him and took the colt from his secret hiding place under his pillow, he even looks down before he says it like he KNOWS how it is going to sound but says it anyway.

source: @yourfavoritedirector.

And Sam doesn’t even flinch. YES THANK YOU DABB, GLYNN & BERENS!

4. SO…WHY is Dean still doing everything he did for Cas during this episode and still defending him to Sam even though he appeared pissed and Cas repeatedly betrayed him?

Well, in 12x12 Cas said “I love you”, clearly understood by Dean (and Sam to be directed at Dean). There was no real reciprocation though from Dean, other than Dean family-zoning him and Sam’s fantastic “we are doing this for you, Cas”.

So regarding Dean, Cas is hurt and believes it isn’t reciprocated. Now Dean is pissed and still using the WE card at every turn, so what is a celestial being to do? Cas assumes this is the end, that there is no hope, he returns the mixed tape. BUT Dean says no keep it, this is NOT the end.

Cas understands that this is therefore not the end, but it is complicated. He explains that he wanted to “come back with a win for you…. for myself”. He wants this for Dean and for himself, this is very important, everything he is doing now and in the future is NOT all about Dean, there is his own agency and morality involved here too.

For Cas, when it comes to it, he wants this reciprocation of his love of course, but right now he has bigger fish to fry and really he wants to protect Sam and Dean and save the world

Now, going back to the “what the hell is wrong with you man?” followed by an awkward silence…. and where Cas then goes to return the gift. Yes, Cas feels that he has said his piece in 12x12 and is rebuffed, but meanwhile Dean is struggling with what Cas has said and everything else that is going on. He has a lot on his plate, not only Cas but his own personal history, his deep seated issues that he is clearly working on this season (see all the performing!Dean facade crumbling meta going around), his issues around his mother, the BMoL, Lucifer, the nephilim…. I mean that is a lot for an emotionally healthy person let a lone DEAN WINCHESTER.

Dean is trying to say / show how he feels he’s just rubbish at it, but he’s getting better!

“We?” “Yes dumbass, WE.” This is his forgiveness. And it is betrayed just moments later. But does this stop him trusting Cas again? NO.

THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. For their dynamic, to show that they still do ultimately trust each other.

Oh, and I just need to add how desperate I am for Sam to turn to Dean soon and just say “No, Dean, this is between you and Cas, stop bringing me into this”. PLEASE I SWEAR I WILL BE GOOD! I mean, how repeated, consistent and out of place it was (I mean, not only to shippers, I think anyone would think it was out of place the way it was portrayed in their personal conversation in Dean’s room) - this has got to be addressed, no?!

 5. A better way

So. What does this mean moving forwards?

Well, firstly, I have moved from being 85% sure Destiel would be endgame to about 95% sure. Lets be real. This episode cements this. Whether you like it or not, it’s happening.

So, what is the better way?

Overall, it seems that Dabb wants to move things forwards. And his key points all season are Free Will, breaking from past repressions and negative influences, moving forwards with what the characters choose and want for their endgame and for sure now endgame Destiel.

I have in the past speculated about quite a lot of stuff, some right and some… still to be seen and some not right, but the overall arc speculation that I saw foreshadowed since early season 12 is RIGHT ON TRACK.

Now, the question is will Dabb go backwards and go to the old, standard SPN ways where probably Dean and Cas will be separated, Cas will be wrong again in his trust in the nephilim - it WILL be evil (rehash of s6 and s8) and he will need to be ‘broken’ from the mind control by Dean in a stronger crypt scene etc etc etc.

Or will he move forwards, onto a “better way”? Will we get another s11 ‘happy ending’? Where it appears all good but there is still stuff going on behind the scenes for s13… Or maybe a not so happy ending but that ultimately will be resolved happily?

Maybe the baby has it’s grace removed (so glad this is an option it was driving me insane that they hadn’t mentioned it by now!) OR it’s not evil at all! it’s the ANTI-anti-Christ, it chose Cas because he is Lucifer’s mirror in that he LOVES Humanity. I mean, the whole point of the show is agency, free will and not being forced to follow the result of your parentage / past ….especially this season with Sam and Dean’s arcs….

Maybe human!Cas, potential hunter Daddies, Cas staying at home calling Dean while he’s out on MOTW hunts with Sam being all “Dean there’s poop everywhere, I’m sorry it got on your favourite shirt, but please please come home this is so hard!” “OK babe, don’t worry, we’ll be back tomorrow, the case was a milk run!” when actually Dean nearly died and Sammy saved the day and…. etc because really? what are we supposed to think from that motel scene? With Cas smiling all cute and using the world “righteous” when talking about the kids future guardian?! (and Kelly survives if we are going to be extra nice).

Maybe Lucifer will die / be dealt with and it is the MoL that are the big bad next year…..aiding the overall future arc of TFW as leaders of the MoL/Hunter collaboration (Chuck I hope so).

Or will it be a mix of the two?

Well my money is on that it will be a mix….

Have you ever done an analysis on the gifset you just reblogged, with Phil saying 'You loved it, you wanna do it more'? When I first watched that moment I thought it was very flirtatious, the sort of thing that (back then) they wouldn't have normally said anywhere except at home with the cameras off

Could you pls talk about the you loved it iconic moment? I believe there’s not much to say apart from the obvious teasing and giggling but I still adore to read your opinions and what you believe they thought during that kind of moments ♡

ugh wow BLESS both of you for asking about this moment, bc i am truly emotional over how much i love this moment and really the whole scene that precedes it with phil quizzing dan about dragon words. you might think i don’t have a lot to say but like,,, do you know me?? ?? ?? naturally, i have SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT THIS and am hAPPY to ramble about it at length.

this video came out a few months before i started watching dan and phil and i remember going on an odyssey of watching all of their videos and seeing this moment and thinking that it felt so substantially different to any other particular scene from their vids in the past few years. and i decided that it’s because it is one of the only times where dan treats one of phil’s questionable remarks/innuendos as though it’s directly being addressed to him (bc it literally is lol) and he reacts accordingly (that blush!!!! the averted eyes!! !) when i first saw it i couldn’t decide if i thought it was super fucking cute or just horrifically cringe and awkward (i still kind of think it is the latter tbh, because something about it makes you, the viewer, really aware that THEY are really aware of the camera and the audience and you can physically feel them being constrained by this amorphous audience gaze in that moment). i settled on it being both though–that awkwardness is definitely there, where they’re flirting but they’re doing it in a somewhat stiff manner and dan is clearly searching for a sarcastic reply to phil’s “you wanna do it more,” in order to turn it into a typical ‘weird phil/normal dan’ exchange. this is why he starts saying “alright–that’s–that was–” but he’s clearly a bit too flustered to come up with anything witty and dismissive. so then there’s a really obvious jump cut and it’s just ,,, so good. cute that phil succeeded in making dan so flustered and just sat there gently giggling about it in his very phil way, cute that dan was so blush and giggly too, and then super fuckin cute and significant that they decided to LEAVE THIS WHOLE ExCHANGE IN THE VID and happily share it with us. i mean looking back on it now there’s hardly anything remarkable about it in comparison to all of the ridiculous and blatant flirting they get up to these days on dapg, but for that time it seems like the decision to not cut that part out was a big one.

regarding the lil quiz scene before it … damn. some actual Gold. i feel like dan was genuinely surprised by phil introducing this bit (as in, it wasn’t pre-planned at all) and i love how candid his reaction to it feels. i think that the lack of preparedness for it is the reason that dan seems unable to even slightly conceal his fondness throughout. it’s just bursting out of him no matter how much he bites down on his smile, and it’s so fucking cute. the way he almost proudly is like ‘if you’re wondering what it’s like to be phil’s friend in any social situation … he comes prepared with icebreakers,’ to underscore how creative and funny phil is. THE LEVEL OF WARMTH AND SOFTNESS IN HIS VOICE and the cute, disgruntled exasperation when he’s like “that’s a phil” in response to “skeen,” it’s so!!!!!!!! ! !! ! ! the really intense way he just stares at phil with a tiny smile when phil is wrapping up the quiz and saying “come for the game leave with some knowledge.” ahhhhhh. dan tried so hard to maintain that sarcastic veneer of like,, ‘phil wtf u and ur weird ideas this is so dumb wtf it’s taking the momentum out of the game wtf i’m going to roll my eyes so hard they fall out w t f’ but like in actuality it is one of the softest things i have ever seen. it really reminds me of one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE dnp videos: the great baby animal quiz. i used to watch this ALL THE TIME when i was sick or sad bc it’s a solid 2 and a half minutes of some of the softest bants they’ve ever had, and dan just blatantly adoring the shit out of phil and his animal facts :( they are so cute and good and nice :(

“Once again, Vasily Fet falls into a pile of manure and crawls out smelling of roses.”

 - Mr. Quinlan, 4x01, Scene 3

Disclaimer: Also, I’ve always pointed out what I like and dislike about the scenes, even from the very start of making these gifsets.  Sometimes I’m wrong and through healthy discourse with other fans, I’ve accepted other viewpoints.

However, if you don’t like to engage in critical thinking/debate and are annoyed by my commentary, just unfollow me please.  I am well aware it is the final season, but keeping critical opinions to ourselves doesn’t actually help the show runners learn from past mistakes.  It doesn’t help them learn what not to do in their next show.

Bitching about people speaking their mind and telling them not to watch the show actually hurts it more in the end.  It drives their final viewing numbers down and those numbers WILL follow the show creators around.

We all enjoy things differently.  I chose to enjoy it by thinking critically about it.  I’d like to be a writer some day.  Going over and voicing these things to like minded people actually helps me learn the pit falls of what not to do.

I love you all. 😘 🤗 😎

  • Is Quinlan limping a bit?  I’ve watched this several times and I can’t really tell.  Might explain why they chose to give him a leg injury in 4x03 though?  Dunno.
  • I wish this scene had more action in it.  The women were subdued too easily.  They wouldn’t have survived this long on their own if this was the case.  I would have liked to have seen more than just shooting from Quinlan off screen.  Would he really waste bullets like that?
  • Not much to say other than them stumbling upon a man who could point them in the direction of the nuke and also operate it for them was kinda lazy writing.
  • The look he gives to Charlotte here is important.  He says that she was easy to track.  Vasily makes a joking crack about it being his aftershave, but he obviously doesn’t shave, so that’s to point out that it was clearly something else.  And when Quinlan says they were easy to track, he’s not looking at Fet and the acting was very obvious here to mean that he knows something about her.  What would make her easy to track?  My guess is that she’s pregnant?  (because smells I guess???)  I love this reoccurring theme for all the women in the show. (sarcasm).  See her obvious look here:

Here’s an extra: Reaction to Quinlan:

Honestly, I felt like this reaction was a bit over done.  It’s 9 to 11 months after the vampire apocalypse.  I doubt people who have survived this long would react this way to a strigoi.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  Just more hysterical women.

Okay so I saw this gifset on my dash today:

with appended commentary about how Steve doesn’t seem to care about Tony’s pain

and I’m like… nah fam?

(At first I considered attaching this rant to the post itself, but then I decided not to because 1) personal experience tells me that this sort of stuff is hell on the OP and 2) there’s nothing particularly uniquely atrocious about the commentary I’m referring to – it’s tiny and I’ve seen many versions of the same claim, it’s more a widely-held fandom belief than anything else at this point, it seems to me, and there’s no reason for me to attach a gratuitous wall of words specifically to that version because idk that just seems like a bitchy thing to do. I’m not like. Attacking it specifically. I’m just linking to the gifset as context bc I think I refer to it a couple of times)

ANYWAY! I’ve been trying to stay away from this shit but everyone has a breaking point and even as (or honestly, *especially* as) a hardcore Tony Stark fan, I’ve been troubled by the post-Cap 3 line of argument that generally holds that Steve “doesn’t care about Tony’s pain” and the more broad “where is his guilt?” etc

Wow, you must be the fakest supercorp shipper I have ever seen.

Yes, Chris Wood is an actor and by all accounts, he is not the worst dick this planet has to offer. However, he’s not some golden wonderboy who can do no wrong and can’t ever be criticized for fear of hurting his straight white boy feelings a bit.

He’s an ACTOR. Part of his JOB is to take criticism. And while death threats are completely over the line and I’d never make one, I definitely have seen way more instances of “Get a job, Chris!” than I have EVER seen “Chris needs to die” from the Supercorp fandom.

Which isn’t to say that there aren’t bad eggs in the Supercorp fandom (as there are in EVERY fandom, including the Karamels and Sanvers, believe me, I’ve encountered quite enough of them to know that). I don’t doubt that there are Supercorp fans who have made legitimate death threats to both Chris Wood and people who like him or his slave-owning character or his abusive fictional relationship with Kara Danvers on Supergirl. In fact, I’d guarantee that there are people who have made death threats towards the Karamels. But there are plenty - more than plenty - Karamels who have sent death threats and hateful messages to the Supercorp fandom, too. As well as Karamels who hate on Katie McGrath or Mehcad Brooks (I don’t have any proof of death threats said towards/about either one of them, but I know Mehcad got a lot of hate when he was first cast and continues to get racist messages from fans).

However. Things like calling him “Crispy Wormwood” or making jokes about his forehead and his receding hairline, while somewhat immature, are really not all that harmful in the long run. Chris Wood is a straight cisgendered white man who makes a lot of money as an actor and lives a life of luxury that most of us can’t even contemplate. He lives a life of complete and utter privilege. A few (well, more than few, the Supercorp fandom is MASSIVE) people making jokes about his shiny forehead or his receding hairline probably don’t even make a dent in his ego. And they’re not even comparable to the kinds of things said towards/about Mehcad or Katie (or even Melissa and Chyler and Sharon and David, I’m sure) since most of those comments are based in sexism and racism. Both Mehcad and Katie have to deal with things like sexism and racism on a daily basis through a number of microaggressions I’m sure most fans aren’t even aware of or could accurately count up. Whereas Chris Wood doesn’t have any of that. Men don’t get routinely shamed for having big foreheads, or killed for having big foreheads, or are unable to get jobs because they have big foreheads. He’s not dealing with microaggressions of any kind in his daily life and since he’s such a woke feminist bae according to all of you guys, he would be the first to admit that. Which means that seeing a few comments about his forehead or his hairline really aren’t going to affect him all that much, if he even sees them at all.

As for the other hate directed at him, well. Suffice it to say a lot of us were pretty pissed off at how this season went on Supergirl and had Chris Wood dealt with it a little differently, things might be a little different. Because there is an enormous difference between just “doing your job” and saying a few nice things about your character or the ship you’re in because it’s your job you don’t want to get in trouble, and completely gassing up what is clearly an abusive relationship and talking about your sexist slave-owning character as if he’s just “misunderstood” and “really the hero of the story” and making it sound like Kara becoming his mentor and essentially being sidelined in favor of his character’s storyline was in any way of a good thing. If Chris Wood was a much of a woke feminist bae as you all want to believe he is, he’d have said some different things about his character and the ship he was forced into. He can’t help how his character was written, of course he can’t. No one’s blaming him for the writing or for the character’s existence, that would be ludicrous. You may notice that we all hate Andrew Kreisberg and Kevin Smith to a rather absurd degree, too, because we know where to place our blame, thank you very much.

But look at how Melissa Benoist handled some of the questions about Karamel lobbed at her in interviews versus how Chris Wood handled them. Melissa so clearly can tell that this relationship is written badly and doesn’t think it’s the best but as the main actor in the show, she is forced to say a bunch of nice things about it. But she manages to dodge a lot of those questions and often repeats herself with what are more than likely lines fed to her by the studios (i.e. “Kara is happy” “You can’t trust a Luthor”). Chris Wood doesn’t do any of that. He seems quite happy to call a relationship where he screams at the woman he claims to love in the middle of her workplace and physically refuses to let her leave an argument she is trying to walk away from so as to keep from making even more of a scene than he’s already made “the sweetest couple on TV right now!” He seems perfectly happy to just say that him not listening to Kara (about how best to protect people, about their relationship, about how slavery and sexism are bad things) isn’t a symptom of his rampant misogyny that really should be resolved long before he and Kara become an item, but is really just his poor little character just being a misunderstood hero all along. He seems perfectly happy to talk about how his character has basically taken over the show and gets the actual hero’s journey this season that should have belonged to Kara instead of making sure that audiences know he’s there to support Kara/Melissa and not the other way around (a la Tyler Hoechlin as Superman).

We can criticize Chris Wood all we want and we have plenty to criticize him for regarding his participation in ruining this show and bringing it down so far from its promising, more feminist start. We can call him the worst actor of our generation all we want because that’s an opinion on his skills and everyone has different tastes. We can call him ugly all we want because plenty of us think he is and again, everyone has different tastes. We can make jokes about his forehead and his receding hairline because they really aren’t going to do anything to hurt him (or his fans as much as they seem personally oppressed every time we make a forehead joke). We can call him out for talking about his character and his character’s relationship with Kara in a way that makes it pretty obvious he has zero clue how UNfeminist it is. And you’d think woke feminist bae Chris Wood would be aware of it, wouldn’t you? You’d think woke feminist bae Chris Wood would realize how incredibly racist it was to replace a Black love interest with a white slave-owning love interest. You’d think woke feminist bae Chris Wood would realize how incredibly sexist it was to have his character get the only real character arc this season instead of the show’s titular female lead. You’d think woke feminist bae Chris Wood would have had at least a few things to say to make sure viewers knew he had at least some awareness of what was happening with the writing and, while he can’t do anything to change that, that he doesn’t agree with it and that he as an actor still supports Kara/Melissa’s storyline. But he never did. Not once.

So as a fellow Supercorp shipper (and an extremely bitter Karolsen shipper for that matter), I’d like you to stop and think for a moment about this post. I’d like you to go look at some of the bullshit Karamels have said about us and some of the things Karamels have said about the actors in this show that aren’t their favorite woke feminist white boy bae Chris Wood. I’d like you to see some of the slurs they throw at us that are abelist, homophobic, racist, and sexist. I’d like you to look at some of the things they’ve said about James as a character and how often they talk about him in incredibly racist ways. I’d like you to see all the homophobic things they say about Supercorp as a ship and the people who ship them. And yes, I know there are some Supercorps who have done some really nasty shit (sending death threats to Karamels and saying racist things to Rahul Kohli for starters), but the Karamels are in NO WAY innocent in any of this.

In fact, that’s actually how I became an “anti” as you might term it. I wasn’t even in the fandom for a really long time, though I have watched this show from day one. And I made one comment on one review about 2x13 and got a SLEW of hate sent back to me about how I was “crazy” and a bitch and a professional hater. All because I wrote about how I disliked Mon-El and Karamel. Just once.

And it never stopped. I wasn’t writing anything about the actors or any of the shippers. I was JUST writing about the ship and the characters and I got continually harassed on the internet for it. Eventually I started talking to a few people on Tumblr who shared my opinions and found an entire fandom who agreed with me, an entire community who felt the way I did.

So yeah. Now I write shit about the actors. Now I write shit about the shippers. Because they attacked me first. They called me names first and were hateful to ME first so now I don’t give a shit about how any of them feel because maybe they deserve to have a little bit of their own medicine dished back to them, to feel the way I felt. Now I troll them and make comments on their posts about how ugly Chris Wood looks in one particular gif in a gifset because it’s exactly the kind of shit that was done to me, but now I can at least find it kinda funny.

Is it juvenile? Sure. But I’m bitter and angry over how this fandom treated ME and it didn’t come from the Supercorps. It came from the Karamels.

You say you’re here to protect those of us Supercorps who got jumped on and harassed on the internet because of some toxic people in the fandom? Well, I’m one of those toxic people, but I used to be one of the people you claim you want to side with and help. I’d guarantee a lot that the people who are now so “toxic” were once more like me and have since gained a shit load of bitterness and resentment, not just towards the shippers but towards the producers and the writers who have done this to us, who have taken a show that used to be about feminism and made it a show about glorifying sexist mediocre white men. But we can’t say anything critical without getting a shitload of hate back from people who think Mon-El is just a space puppy who has literally done no wrong ever in his life (including owning slaves and being a sexist douchebag who was involved in a tyrannical monarchy that oppressed its people? Sure, Jan). It’s not our fault they think criticism of a fictional character somehow is an attack on the entire show as a whole, the actor behind said character, and themselves as shippers. Or that those shippers seem to think that the characters are real and have feelings and that us disliking them and saying so on the internet will somehow hurt Mon-El’s feelings or something. Don’t ask to me to tell you how Karamel minds work, I’d prefer not to have to put myself in the shoes of a bigot who romanticizes an abusive relationship.

Chris Wood doesn’t need your protection, he never has. If you want to appreciate him for his terrible acting and his five expressions and his bland looks, go right ahead. No one can stop you and no one honestly gives a shit. But don’t act like the Karamels are these saintly victims who just get continually shit on by the “toxic” Supercorp fandom and not that the Supercorp fandom is actually more routinely shit on by the Karamels and that’s how some of us became more “toxic” in the first place.

Go take your place at the Karamel table and leave the Supercorp shippers alone. Maybe you can be like M’gann and change the minds of some of the Karamels, show them the light or something (although I’m not sure you have any light to show them). Try to be less of a Mon-El at least, abandoning his own people for his own self-gain and absolving himself of every sin he’s ever committed and eschewing the blame somewhere else.

anonymous asked:

Mulder's answer that he didn't have a significant other in the widely understood definition made me sad actually but it sounds like you liked it. Hoping you can explain why as it may allow me to reframe that line and its meaning.

I loved it! I can’t understand why it would make you sad. (That’s not meant to be a criticism, it just seems that we’re looking at it very differently.) You mean because he doesn’t acknowledge Scully as his significant other?

You have to remember that, despite the “season of secret sex” fan theories that we enjoy talking about after the fact, in real time Mulder and Scully were definitely not canonically “together” at this time. We had had the Millennium kiss, and the season before the Triangle kiss, and of course FTF, but that was it. And this was before all things (actually – it looks like Chimera was the WEEK before all things), where we get a concrete indication that they may have spent the night together. (And also it was well before the stuff that in Season 8 they tried to retroactively pretend had been going on during Season 7 – IVF, brain disease – but there is no indication that they were thinking about any of that then and I don’t want to talk about it because it makes me angry. Ahem.) Anyway, that’s where we were at that point.

So obviously WE knew that Mulder and Scully loved each other, and THEY (Mulder and Scully, I mean) knew, but it was pretty unspoken and officially they were just work partners and friends. Who had kind of kissed once or twice because of extraordinary circumstances, but, you know.

So this is the first time anyone had ever DEFINED it. And that was a BIG deal. Yes, it’s subtle and slyly worded, but that’s part of its charm. It is very very in character, I feel, for the show and for Mulder and Scully. Mulder is backed into a corner by this lady who is (understandably) lightly hitting on him. She asks him if he’s got a significant other…and, if I may presume to read Mulder’s mind, which is what a well-acted scene allows you to do (and this is – DD delivers it absolutely perfectly), he thinks immediately of Scully (obviously!) before realizing that, well, TECHNICALLY, she’s not his significant other. I mean, she is extremely significant to HIM, and she is the only “other” he has or wants, and they love each other in all the ways that count, and if only she were here right now he would totally give her a highly amused look and she would probably raise her eyebrow, because they both know what they are to each other even if they don’t say it. But…he can’t really say “yes, I do” to this lady, because she’ll start asking about his “girlfriend” and Scully isn’t that and he’s not going to reduce her to that for the sake of social politeness with this random lady. But he’s also not going to say “nope” because…that’s not right at all! He’s not “free,” he’s not interested in anyone else. He’s got Scully. She’s not really his significant other, but she’s…his Scully.

So he says “Not…in the widely understood definition of that term,” and he kind of nods, and smiles, and it’s a secret smile for him and Scully. And she is a little confused and he’s not trying to be mean or exclusionary, but…it’s not for her.

I love that moment so much. So so much. And, you guys, I know we watch the gifsets of them kissing over and over again and see people’s edits with sappy song lyrics and whatnot, but…watching the actual show in real time…we did not get very much. And every little bit that we got was like a thunderbolt. And this wasn’t just a loaded glance or a hand touch, it was Mulder ACKNOWLEDGING IT TO A STRANGER. Oh lord. It was beautiful. I think I rewound this about 85 times. On my VCR.

I know that these days I complain A LOT about the show and how they never gave us anything we wanted. But once upon a time, for a while, the formula DID work – the sexual tension WAS amazing and it was like a soap bubble that you never wanted to pop at the same time that you couldn’t stand it one more second. It was exquisite agony. It just went on about 16 years too long. The reason we’re still so crazy for Mulder and Scully IS because of their beautiful slow burn. By this point we all knew they loved each other, like I said, but to hear Mulder basically say out loud, to a stranger, “Significant other? …Well, I don’t NOT have one”…it was pretty squee-worthy.

Oddly, Milagro kind of built an entire episode around trying to do this very thing, but Milagro has always mostly just annoyed me. Something about the throwaway nature of the line in this otherwise unmemorable (to me) episode (except for the “…and how I’d like to KILL you”/“I’m sorry, who is this?” exchange, which also fills me with the same kind of sappy heart-fluttering love) just had a lot of impact.

In conclusion, my favorite thing is when Mulder and Scully manage to have chemistry with each other when the other one isn’t there and it’s still the most electric part of the scene. See also: the end of Requiem.

Oh boy, why do I always write so much. tl;dr: Mulder doesn’t quite say he and Scully are together, but he doesn’t quite say they’re NOT together, and he smiles all cutely and happily and privately while doing it. BECAUSE THEY LOOOOOOOVE EACH OTHER.

Hello! I was hoping maybe you know the answer to my queston (or theory). it's not anything big, but I was curous about why Derek's eyes were so firmily on Stiles, while there were literal wonder happening. Like shouldn't he look at Brett guy instead? You can see it here quite clearly here hoechlder(.)tumblr(.)com/post/93207798472. Even light, I think, is meant to empathise something. But I don't really understand what's so important here. And light is important, Jeff once said, right?

Firstly here’s a link to the gifset

I think the answer might tie into the conversation and other things going on in that scene. Let’s ask ourselves the always important question of WHY WAS THIS SCENE INCLUDED?

Stiles: What the hell is happening to this kid?
Deaton: He’s been poisoned by a rare wolfsbane. I need to make an incision and you need to hold him as still as possible.
Stiles: Hey, Derek, how about a little werewolf strength?
Derek: Yeah, I’m not the only one here with werewolf strength.
Deaton: If you can’t hold him still, the incision might kill him.
Stiles: Derek, he’s slipping. I don’t think I can hold him. Ah!
Peter: I guess I still have a little werewolf strength myself.
Derek: Yeah, maybe more than a little.
Stiles: Hey, Doc, I don’t think he’s breathing. Is he okay?
Deaton: I think he’ll be fine, but probably out for a while.
Stiles: Guys, can you hear that? I think he’s saying something.
Brett: The sun… The moon… The truth… The sun… The moon… The truth…
Deaton: Three things cannot long be hidden. The sun, the moon, and the truth. It’s Buddhist.
Peter: Satomi.

This scene gives us both overt and subvert information

  • How to get the rare wolsbane poison out of a body
  • Peter is strong again. He’s been saying that he’s physically weak since he came back from the dead, in fact he’s taken great care to repeat it several times. This raises the question of HOW he got his strength back and so suddenly.
  • The Satomi buddist mantra is repeated, this will become important later in the season, so great reminder.
  • Derek is losing his strength. His cuts heal more slowly. Stiles clearly notices
  • Derek’s cryptic “I’m not the only one here with werewolf strength” that I believe is at least partly in reference to Stiles, who is managing to hold Brett down rather well considering he’s a werewolf with panic and spasms and Derek is losing his powers.

I think Derek is perhaps one of the few who has actually noticed that Stiles is stronger than you would expect from a human. They have not spent all that much time together lately (that we know of) and in this scene Stiles comments and notices Derek’s diminishing strength and for the first time Derek actually somewhat cryptically addresses Stiles’ increasing strength. Stiles reaction when he says that is very telling.

The wonderfully clever, and yet sometimes also frustrating thing about TW is that the dialogue is so layered. We can watch a scene and think we understand what just happened and then you sit down and watch it again and really pay attention to what is said, and it can turn out that it’s worded in such a way that you might not have understood it the right way after all. Or maybe there isn’t a right way - perhaps both ways are true.

So stiles is slightly baffled that Derek is struggling to hold Brett down. In fact they’re showing about equal strength in this scene. And Derek isn’t fully human yet, he’s just a bit drained at this stage. So this serves to make Stiles aware that all is not well with Derek.

That is the first layer of this scene.

The second alludes to Stiles, but it’s shown indirectly with Derek’s choice of words and hidden behind the easy assumption that he’s referring to Brett. Which of course he also is…. Confused yet? :)  When Stiles requests werewolf strength Derek’s reply is “I’m not the only one here with werewolf strength” which leaves it ambiguous to whom he’s referring.

The obvious interpretation is Brett. But if so why no just say that - “He’s got werewolf strength too”  making it 100 % clear that he’s referring to Brett and not Stiles. But by choosing “I’m not the only one” that leaves three other people in the room to choose from. And he could also mean more than one, as in both Brett and Stiles. We just don’t know. We can’t really be sure. But there’re also the looks exchanged that speak volumes…

And the way Derek barks out “werewolf strength” you can almost hear the sarcastic quote marks.

Remember Derek has been present for a few of Stiles’ show of strength before, and he seems to be the only one (aside from Peter) who keeps an eye on Stiles when shit is going down.

I seriously googled how to make your bat splinter into a million pieces by hitting something hard, and it’s next to impossible…

I also googled how long can you thread water while wearing clothes, shoes and holding someone up who’s unable to help in any way. The answer is a depressingly short time.

In this scene Derek wants Stiles to come and hold down a werewolf who’s about to experience the worst pain he’s ever felt.

It takes two werewolves to hold down the top of Isaac but Stiles is perfectly capable to hold down his feet while Deaton watches the proceedings all zen-like.

I think the end of the scene where Derek just stares at Stiles mostly in wonder is just that. To Derek the most fascinating thing in that room is Stiles - the person who’s his anchor, and trumps both suspicious uncle and close-to-death teenager.

The lightning is also important in TW. I can’t remember if Jeff or someone else has said this outright, but we’ve tracked the various kids of lightning used in different scenes throughout the series and there is a pattern. Scenes are usually white, gold, blue or turquoise in color, and each convey certain emotions. I won’t get into that in this meta, but I know others have written about it before, but unfortunately I can’t see to find it.

In this scene what we do notice is the light behind Derek that shines very deliberately onto Stiles. The light beams go out in many directions, but they never reach Deaton, but it’s a direct line between Derek and Stiles.

In the first one here Derek looks at his arm where the wound heals, albeit slower than usual. His focus is then on Stiles for the rest of the scene. It’s like he’s really seeing him here - like all doubt has been erased.

I might be reading to much into things as usual.

Or maybe not

So you know that post you reblogged with commentary about Aaron - first, AWESOME, but second, I really want to know what other people think about that scene from "Playthings" and what I said about it. I really wonder sometimes about the way I see things.

Oh! I typed a longer reply and then deleted that part for the sake of coherency as I basically just agreed with you in a lot of words, but I actually was saying your response was pretty much how I read it even way back when I was viewing for the first time.

Lemme grab your post :P

As an aside, I got something totally different from that scene in “Playthings”. Sam doesn’t care about being perceived as gay, okay, and Dean does. And this might just be me, from my town, my lunch table, my generation, but … That setup lit up my gaydar back in 2007, when I was seventeen, because it’s always implying the defensive one is closeted-gay. And usually it’s a joke. But this time there wasn’t a punchline, and Dean as good as told us it wasn’t a joke. So in my mind that scene is raising the question for us to consider, and it’s tying Dean’s sexuality into his performance of masculinity when we’ve already seen how that performance hurts him. It’s saying “Hey, it’s like Dean is gay,” and then failing to laugh, and leaving us to think about it. That’s what I got. (Not that I could articulate that at seventeen - I just knew it lit up my gaydar and left me thinking. honestly I don’t think I’veever thought of Dean as straight)

I figured from the get-go Dean had the subtext attached to him: bear in mind I started watching in my first year of a Literature degree where within one lecture our tutors were like, “So here’s old school gothic horror, and here’s insane amounts of gay subtext…” so I was kind of watching in between reading long academic essays about how gay vampires are as a concept and stuff. :P There was 0% chance between that and working out my own sexuality at the same time I wasn’t going to latch onto Dean for a multitude of extremely gay reasons.

The Playthings line sealed the deal for me that Dean was meant to be read that way as subtext to the character, and Dr Sexy, when I got around to watching the apocalypse a couple of years later, basically cemented in my mind that Dean was absolutely definitely meant to be bi. I literally see no point in people arguing over each and every instance week by week whether this one instance means he’s bi or not. The fact is once the subtext is attached to him in any way, he’s a character with a legit queer reading, and at least in the old school way from my academic learning about queer stuffs, the Playthings line plus the presentation of his character would literally be all that was needed, say you stumbled across the just the first few seasons of Supernatural as a 1800s Gothic novel, to made Dean one of the great queer characters of literature :P (Aside: if anyone knows a trashy Victorian horror Destiel AU I encourage readers at home to phone in with information.)

Anyways since sexuality works like it does, it doesn’t need to be randomly reaffirmed every week. I don’t have to go outside and consciously check out people from a range of genders each week to make sure I’m still bi. It kind of annoys me there is a sort of point-scoring thing with the characters in the show to prove their sexuality over and over. Dean’s still gonna be a bit queer even if he literally only ever fangirled himself sick in Dr Sexy’s presence, and that’s fine. The show gives us material for non-exhaustive 12 part gifsets worth of random moments of Dean being OOC around guys or specifically drooling over Cas? EVEN BETTER.

Sorry, that was sort of ranty and not directed at anything in particular said in that post except that some of the phrasing reminded me that people do this. And while I don’t think those collected gifsets are point scoring, rather, offering a quick essay on proof for the character reading, I’ve seen a fair few angry anons on other people’s blogs doing the whole dance over Dean being bi… I’m in a slightly fandom wanky mood, sorry. :P *Other reasons I deleted my reply to this part of the other thread*

I was wondering if you had any thoughts on Mick Rory's speech patterns? (If you've already answered this in another post then sorry!). In particular I think (at least I've noticed it once or twice) that he sometimes doesn't use contractions and as a result the sentence comes out a little awkwardly (ex: in his first episode he says "what *are* you talking about" instead of "what're" and the result stresses the word "are" a bit) Idk, it could just be the actor's way of talking?

Mick Rory’s speech patterns are a fucking nightmare to parse. Honestly. I’ve been trying to pin them down since The Flash season 1 and they’re a goddamn moving target. A big part of why is because they changed his speech patterns for Legends (along with his characterization, a little bit, and Len’s).

Dominic Purcell has also said in an interview that he didn’t hit his stride with Mick until they were filming the first Legends’ episode, and that’s when he really came to understand the character and when it fell naturally into place. So that’s bound to have affected his speech patterns some. It also doesn’t help that his accent occasionally drops and his Australian side slips out (I always laugh when it happens; it’s been happening more on this season of Legends).

But okay. This got crazy freaking long so I’m putting it under a cut.

Chat out of the Bag - Miraculous Non-Spoiler Review

Heyo, my ladybugs and tomcats!

In honor of Miraculous Twitter bombing day, I have arrived to give a thorough, non-spoiler review of Miraculous. I want to warn you all, that these are just all my personal thoughts on the show and opinion, but regardless, it is a wonderful show.

Gif Credit: @miraculousladybuggifs

If there’s something I love in a good TV Show, Movie, or Video Game, it’s a good plot. I’m sure that all if you can agree with me that having a good plot is imperative to having a great product. And I can tell you, that Hawkdaddy / Papapillon, our beloved Thomas Astruc, has created this masterpiece of a story.

The overall premise of the story, as told by Wikipedia is this:

Set in modern-day Paris the series focuses on a teenaged junior high school girl, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and her classmate, Adrien Agreste. When evil arises in Paris, Marinette transforms into ‘Ladybug’, while Adrien transforms into 'Chat Noir’.

However, neither know each other’s secret identities: Marinette doesn’t realise that her school crush, Adrien, is Chat Noir and Chat Noir doesn’t know that his partner and crush, Ladybug, is actually Marinette.

Together, they’re a crime-fighting duo who protect Paris against the mysterious villain, Hawk Moth and his akumas.

Now, you might be thinking, oh, it’s your average cliche romance story. It’s not. Of course, there are a lot of romantic elements inside this show, there is also plenty of action, suspense, and mystery. Each episode has it’s own mini-arc and ends usually pretty nicely. The ways that the episodes progress is also very unique and creative and I don’t think it has been done before in TV Series! Although, you’d have to watch it to find out what I mean :)

There are moments where this show rips my heart in two. This show can get depressing. This show can make you laugh. This show can make you scream (personal experience, I have video evidence because my friend apparently snapchatted me screaming, but that’s another story).

In conclusion of story, this show has an amazing story. It may not be perfect (always room for improvement, but this goes for all stories out there!), but it the one of the most enjoyable stories I’ve ever enjoyed so far

This is one of the few instances where I can get very invested into characters. This is one of those moments. Everyone loves a good character, someone they can relate to or someone they can look up to (for the young’uns). I myself, enjoy the characters on the show very much!

One thing I like about this show is how diverse the staff of characters there. The cast of characters we’re are introduced are all very multi-racial. Marinette, the protagonist of the show, is half Chinese (mother’s side) in addition to being French. Although Adrien is French, he is confirmed to be able to speak Chinese. At least two characters come from an Arabian Ancestry and there’s even more than I can’t name off the top of my head!

Not to mention that this is a mash of a French, Korean, and Japanese companies who are working together! Even Toei Animation!

It’s one thing to say that you feel for a character. There are moments where I actually felt so pained in one particular episode that for the entire day I felt like someone was strangling my heart. I just feel so attuned to them that I feel like I’m tethered to them, so every time they get hurt, I get hurt to. They’re just so relatable to me!

THIS SHOW HAS SOME GLORIOUS EYE-CANDY. I mean, just look at it! It’s absolutely AMAZING! HOW YOU NOT LIKE IT???

The battle scenes are so well choreographed and very well animated! I have to say that Miraculous has one of the most beautiful and utterly amazing CGI Animation that I have ever seen in Animated TV Show history.

LIKE WOW, IT IS SOME BEAUTIFUL SCENES. The emotions on the character’s faces are so expressive, even out of context you can tell what a certain character is feeling at one point in time! ITS AMAZING! The animation crew for this show really outdone themselves!

One of the few reasons I’ve been able to get into this show is because how beautiful the animation was. Believe it or not, I found Miraculous through a gifset of Chat Noir that my friend had reblogged. As soon as I saw it on my dash, I knew I had found something to look forward to. I was just so fascinated by how well animated that few seconds of Chat was that I was sucked into this fandom!

Voice Acting

The voice acting for this show is one thing I like about it! Although I have yet to hear the English VA’s (though I have heard their theme song), I am in love with both the Korean and French Voice Actors!

The Korean Dub is very expressive. They love to put all the little extra grunts and squeals in battle scenes. They also put a LOT of emotion into their character’s voices and some of are just so cute! The French Dub is very silky to listen to, I squee every time I heart Chat Noir’s French voice! Marinette’s French voices is so cute to listen to! French Plagg is probably the most amazing thing I’ve ever heard the only thing I could think of when I heard his voice is like when people were auditioning for the Plagg VA they just hired a French Butler.

Miraculous’ theme song has the one of the most catchiest songs in the universe. As soon as I heard it, I realized how much I was going to love this show.

There are currently three different version of the theme song out there and I love them! All of them has to each it’s own qualities that make it a little different! The English Opening is very catching, especially if you speak English. My friend who did not even watch the show, told me that the OP got stuck in her head after I played it a couple times during class. The Korean version has a very unique trait added to them, that a K-Pop Band is singing the songs! And last be not least, the French version sounds like it has been recorded in heaven because those voices are hmmmmmmmm……..SO GOOD! A+

Also even, the two concept songs used in earlier productions is also extremely catchy like wow. Even the music that plays in the background is pretty good, but that OP is one to drag people in. Some ear-worms crawlin’ in your brain and it ain’t coming out anytime soon.

I just want to say that the Miraculous Community is probably the most unique fandom I’ve ever been part of. Of course, not to say we’re not a perfect fandom, but this one of the best fandoms I’ve ever been part of. Almost everyone who is part of the community is extraordinarily nice and kind. We’re also very respectful and the most important component: we love the show!

Because of Miraculous, for the first time in forever, I managed to really connect with other fans. In the past, I’ve never been able to connect with other fans of the things I liked. I mean once in awhile, I speak to someone with the same interest, but this is probably the first time I’ve been able to converse to someone about something I’m fangirling over with! There is also some AMAZING fanart and fanfiction floating around on tumblr and other websites!

I’ve sometime watched episodes together with other fans at the same time and having other people watching it at the same time is very exhilarating! It’s the first time I’ve been able to do that, and for once, I feel very included!

NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT HAWKDADDY (AKA Thomas Asturc, the creator of the show) ACTUALLY TAKES TIME TO CONVERSE WITH US LIKE WHAT. THERE WAS EVEN A TIME HE ACTUALLY JOINED US IN A CHATROOM AND LIKE THANKED US, THE FANS FOR LIKING THE SHOW LIKE WHAT. WHO DOES THAT? ONLY THE GREATS FANON DAD, HAWKDADDY DOES! Like, Hawkdaddy actually take the time to converse with the fans, answer questions (or watch us suffer with the magical words ‘No Spoilers’).

I have to say something when I say that this is the first time I’m so emotionally invested into a TV Show. The only other time I’ve been so utterly obsessed is the video game series, Kingdom Hearts, but this is the first time this has happened with a TV Series.

One thing to say, GO WATCH THIS SHOW. You will not regret watching this. It’s just so amazing in so amazing in different ways! The show, characters, and animation are brilliant! The music and the voice acting are just so pleasant to listen to! The Community is just an awesome bunch to hang with!

So in conclusion…

sorry not sorry for the long post :P

Robron Awards 2016 - post one!

I don’t have the skills to make fancy gifsets or anything so I’m going to post my answers in batches of five, and I’ll write about why these are my favourites!

Play along here

Best Kiss

The reunion kiss, April 2016

There are SO many amazing Robron kisses, but my favourite by quite a long way is their reunion kiss. So many of their kisses, particularly in the affair days, were so full of fire and passion and lust and desperation. This kiss was so different. It was still filled with passion, but it was passion of a different kind. These two people who’d been wanting and waiting for each other for so long, even if they hadn’t always realised it, finally gave in and let themselves be together after so many months apart. The whole scene building up to the kiss, and the hug afterwards, showed just how much their love and relationship had grown since the affair days, and everything that had happened since. It just….ugh. We had *all* been waiting for it for such a long time, and it was everything I think we could’ve hoped for and more. A perfect kiss and a perfect reunion!

Sweetest Moment

“I still see you like that. I always will.”, February 2016

This scene and the moment I’ll pick for “Best Robron Dialogue” could’ve been switched around, because both scenes are sweet and both have great dialogue. But I’ve gone for this one as Sweetest Scene because this was just everything to me. Honestly, it almost made me cry. The boys in the dark, Aaron’s head a mess thinking Robert didn’t want him anymore, and then Robert revealing that he was just respecting Aaron and that he wanted things to be different this time. It was in that moment that I had real faith in the future of Robron. The dialogue was lovely, and so was the look in Aaron’s eyes when he listened to Robert’s words. It was just the sweetest and most beautiful scene and I’m pretty sure it’ll always be one of my absolute favourites!

HONOURABLE MENTION goes to Robert looking after Aaron after he revealed his abuse.

Funniest Scene

“Did I spoil your fun?” / “We were….you know…in the shower, and Charity walked in.” / “Get your kit off!”, July 2016

So I’m kinda cheating, because these were actually three different scenes, but they took place in the same episode and were connected, so…I hope that’s okay!! The whole concept of Charity catching Robron having sex in the shower is just so golden to me, and the way Robert did not give one single fuck and wanted to carry on even though Charity had “spoilt their fun” was just brilliant. Then we had the great scene with Aaron telling Adam about it (that whole scene in itself was hilarious), and then we got seriously thirsty Robert later on, still obviously dismayed at having been interrupted in the morning, just SO DESPERATE for Aaron that he told him to “get his kit off” the moment he knew they were alone, and his desperate little “I’ve been waiting all day, come on” is just THE GREATEST.

Honourable mention goes to the “get stuck in” comment the other day - flirty banter at the scrapyard will never not be amazing!

Most Heartbreaking Scene

Aaron reveals his abuse, January 2016.

This is still incredibly difficult to watch. Like, it genuinely hurts. I remember when it aired, I watched it with my sister, and we were almost watching from between our fingers because it was just so so hard and uncomfortable.

It just had so many layers. First we got Robert frantically searching for Aaron, and then finally finding him and revealing that he was still in love with him. That in itself was pretty heartbreaking, how Aaron reflected on how awful Rob had treated him in the past, and how desperate Robert was to get him to open up about what he’d been through.

And when he finally did…I mean we all knew it was going to be something really bad, and we had a pretty good idea of what it was, but I don’t think any of us could’ve predicted how hard-hitting and distressing it would be.

Both Danny and Ryan were unbelievable in these scenes and it’s honestly one of the most powerful episodes of any soap I’ve ever seen.

Sexiest Scene

“Upstairs now.”, December 2014

I remember everything about this evening. My mum was ill in bed, and she was watching ED upstairs while the rest of us watched it downstairs, as we always did/do at 7pm. I remember totally not expecting it. I remember hoping for something, anything Robron related, but having no idea that I was about to see one of the hottest and most sexy scenes I’d ever seen on TV before, because DAMN. DOUBLE DAMN. It was perfection in sex-form.

Just seeing how much they infuriated each other, how much they pissed each other off. Aaron winding Robert up, the “date” with Finn and then tearing the wing-mirrows off Rob’s beloved car just to get a reaction. and BOY DID HE GET A REACTION.

Aaron shoving Robert against a wall, Robert shoving Aaron against a wall…it really seemed like they couldn’t stand each other but at the same time they weren’t just driving each other crazy because they hated each others guts, but because they were falling completely in lust with each other. And then Robert, even though Aaron had literally TRASHED HIS CAR, just couldn’t contain himself anymore and pinned Aaron to the wall with a kiss.

BUT IT DIDN’T END THERE. Just as you think this scene couldn’t get any hotter Robert literally DEMANDS Aaron to go upstairs so they can bang each others brains out. And the way Rob doesn’t even wait for an answer, he just runs upstairs, in his step-mother’s pub, to Aaron’s room, because he KNOWS that Aaron isn’t going to say no. And like 2 seconds later, after barely even a hesitation, Aaron follows him.

I remember asking my mum later on what she thought about that nights ED, and while I have no recollection about what else happened in the episode, I remember my mum specifically saying; “I think the Aaron and Robert thing is REALLY interesting, I wonder what will happened there.”

If only we knew what was ahead. If only we knew.

"Did you forget?" – a brief visual recap of the end of episode 1

Alright, so I lazily stumbled upon this gifset and, and savingrinmatsuoka ’s tags actually reminded me why this is among one of my favourite scenes in the whole show. I have addressed this in passing in the past as well, but I figured I’d go through it point by point to illustrate how I feel like exchange between Rin and Haruka –in the first episode of the series no less– is by far the biggest indicator of what’s to come regarding Haruka’s future character development and feelings towards Rin, as well as their special brand of mutual misunderstandings.

Now, I know there’s always alternate ways of interpreting every scene and this is probably simply the most Captain Obvious one, but I genuinely feel that this is the moment where the past and the present first collide in a way that tells you everything you need to know about their future.

By the way, in one of your ramblings a few days ago, you said something about parallels between Thomas and John. I don't mean to be pushy or anything, but if you could elaborate? If you have a moment... And want to... I'm new to Black Sails and even if it was discussed, at some point, I wasn't here. And I'm really curious... thanks. *.*

sure thing!!! :’’)

just to clarify though, bc I think my wording may have been misleading: when I said “silver/thomas parallels” as they relate to the ways in which silverflint becoming canon would already be entirely supported/set up by the narrative, I was referring more to similarities between Flint x Thomas and Flint x Silver as relationships rather than silver and thomas as characters >:) so, that’s what I’m going to elaborate on below! sorry if that’s not what you were looking for/if the relationship parallels are already obvious to you :3 (if you are interested in thinking more about character similarities, though, THIS GIFSET may be helpful!)

*clears throat* ANYWAY!!! more of me blabbering about Flint/Thomas and Silverflint things under the cut O:)

Hello, the Tumblr. Your friendly neighbourhood Marciana here, back again with another friendly reminder about reposts and reblogs, and why one of them is good and the other is bad. This post is going to be a bit long, but bear with me.

Now I’ve been seeing quite a lot of reposts happening in some of my tracked tags, and it’s just not okay. But then again, some people might be NEW to the whole concept of reposts vs reblogs, so here’s your overview.

“Reblog” is when you see a post that you like, either on your dashboard or in the tags, and click on the small icon on the lower right corner of the post and click “REBLOG” to put it in your blag. Very simple, three steps at the most.

“Reposts” are when original posts, fanart and/or graphics such as edits/manips and GIFs/GIFsets made by other people are posted by OTHER people who did NOT create them, for various reasons. Reposting happens in a few ways:

  • Saving the fanart/graphic/GIF/s to your own computer, uploading to Tumblr all over again, making an entire new post on your own blog, not giving credit or sourcing back to the original source/creator.
  • Taking a screenshot of the single post you like (be it a joke, or a gifset, or an edit, what have you), cropping the screenshot in a photo manipulating program (Paint, Photoshop, Photoscape, Gimp, etc.), uploading the screenshot to Tumblr, making a post with the screenshot, no link back to the original nor permission from the original post’s creator
  • WeHeartIt, Rebloggy or something like that (I’m not sure I’ve only seen it for a couple of days), or other image archiving/blogging website that does not link back to the original source on the internet of the picture or content of the picture

So as you can see, it takes a whole lot more effort to repost than to just reblog, but that’s not the only reasaon that reposts are frowned upon. Reposts essentially take the credit (and the notes) away from the original creators/artists/editors, even though that may not be the intent of the reposter. It’s like doing someone’s homework for them and then watching them take all the credit when their homework turns out to be perfect but their paper got graded and/or noticed before yours. Of course, it’s understandable that a blogger would like to be found by interesting people, they want the notes and the followers, and for others, reposting other people’s fanart, edits and graphics is a way of appreciating what they’ve done. But there are PLENTY of other ways of doing that without violating copyright policies as set in Tumblr’s rules and regulations.

“But Marciana,” you point out, “What if we’d REALLY like to post them on our own blog so that people going through the tags can find us, like us and hopefully follow us?” Then please do not hesitate to ask permission from the original creators/artists. Some will say yes, others will say no. Whatever the decision, be respectful of it. Saying “I do what I want” and going through with the repost anyway doesn’t make you a cool rebel, it just makes you a jerk that can easily be reported to Tumblr staff through a specific e-mail address. Several posts AND blogs have already been deleted and suspended because of serial violations of the copyright laws of Tumblr, which now thankfully also cover GIFsets. In the event that the original source gives their permission, please do not forget to link back to the original post. Other artists will be fine with you leaving their name/Tumblr URL in the post as a source, but the point is to ask first. If in case you can’t find the original source anymore, make sure to say so in your post. “I can’t find the original source, if this is yours, please let me know so I can properly ask your permission/give you credit.”

Oh, and please take note: WeHeartIt is not a legitimate source, as it archives photos from all over the internet and NEVER links back to their original sources when you post them here on Tumblr.

“Okay fine,” you say, “But what about using people’s jpgs and gifs as reactions to posts? How is that different from illegal reposting?” To be honest, it’s not VERY different, except for the fact that if you use someone’s jpg or gif as a reaction, it’s not really seen as you claiming it for your own. Almost everyone on Tumblr is using everyone else’s stuff for reaction anyway that at this point, this has become the gray area. Still, if the jpg or gif you want to use is watermarked with the creator’s URL, ask permission to use their stuff if you want to be very sure.

While we’re on the subject of permission, let me bring up one more permission issue that needs to be talked about. Some people are very good at ‘shopping pictures together for shipping or ficcing purposes. That’s all well and good, until you cross a certain line. There are pictures out there of fans with their favorite celebrities or actors that they’ve met, and these shots usually make for good posing for shippy pictures. The problem with doing that is that some people will callously cut the fan out of their own picture, which is their representation of a special day or moment that they had, to serve someone else’s purpose. This can be, and has been, very, very disrespectful of the fans, who only uploaded their pics in the first place to share the fun with the fandom. I’ve asked in the future for people to please stop doing this, but of course, thats not going to happen in a flash. If you’re going to insist on doing it, get permission from the original blogger of the picture, and for the love of fandom, please respect whatever answer they give you. This kind of thing puts people off of sharing their awesome pictures and stories with the rest of the fans, some of whom will never be so lucky as to even be in the same city as their fave actors/singers/celebrities, let alone attend a con they’ll be in and pay heaps of money for something very, very special.

For you creators/editors/artists out there who would like to prevent your stuff from getting reposted, my only advise is to watermark or sign your things. That’s not really going to physically stop the actual reposting from happening, but at least you’ll know that it’s yours, and if you wish to report the reposting, you have proof that it was yours at all.

That’s it for now, you guys. I hope this post, even though it’s been long, has been informative and helpful, and here’s to less reposts in the tags, and more respect in the fandom.

(Special thanks to bifca for the fantastic idea for this post.)

First, let me just say this: that was the absolute best episode of Glee I have seen in a very, very long time.  The writing was tight as fuck, the songs were adorable, the pacing flawless and OMFG ALL THE KLAINE!!!

What follows is mainly composed of my reactions to the Klaine parts of the episode, which I kept pausing so I could open this post and capslock into it in order to even come close to handling my feels.

Witness my destruction under the cut:

I know everyone has their opinions and that’s fine, but I’m really annoyed when people don’t actually look into things, but assume something from gifs or from stuff some people said.

If you see a gifset of Root and Shaw, see them flirting and thinking it’s subtext (it was before, now after the last episode, I can safely say it’s not) and throw around word like queerbaiting, because all you saw are a few gifs, you haven’t watched the show, you really can’t get a full context from those few frames.

And please, don’t compare it to OUAT and R&I, those two shows (and that’s my opinion, you can disagree) are terrible and those two shows are the prime example of queerbaiting. let’s throw some subtext-y scenes so we keep a part of our fandom, but yell from buildings ‘no homo’ and make fun of people who ship 2 characters of the same sex.

Person of Interest was never that kind of show. first of all, it’s a great show, it requires thinking  and yes, it has its procedural episodes, but it’s all part of a bigger picture. the emphasis is not on romance, it never was and I’m kinda glad about it. I’m honestly so tired of seeing the same old thing on TV, love triangles and romance drama (hetero that is). second of all, everyone is supportive of Root and Shaw ship, from writers to the actresses and it’s really refreshing, to see them react like that and not go on a defense how it’s a family show or whatever. Don’t yell around queerbaiting, because there is a big difference; when you can see writers deliberately writing subtext, only to cancel it by some big hetero display to remind anyone that only straight couples can be together; and when you see writers writing good scripts that explore the relationship and shaping up characters so that they learn from each other and along the way evolve.

Please, if you’re gonna go into this show expecting love declarations, snuggles and things like that, I can safely say this is not a show for you. if you want to watch a good, complex show with great characters and storylines, then yes, you should definitely watch it.

In Defense of Spoilers

Odd timing as I had been planning this post yesterday, and then Norman make his comments today and it is all the more prescient.

I believe spoilers aren’t just “not bad” they are in fact good for a show, nay VITAL, and here’s why.

1) Spoilers extend the show during the hiatus - When a season finishes, the fans are left in a void of nothingness, having to wait 6 or 7 months until the show hits their screens again. This is a very dangerous time for a show, when the fans can wander off, find new favourites or forget the show exists. it’s why they create cliffhangers, to keep us talking during the hiatus. With spoilers, this effect is greatly multiplied.

Filming spoilers ensure the fans stay engaged with the show while it’s not on air. Even with a cliffhanger, there is only so much that can be discussed. With filming spoilers those discussions have focus, and can grow, giving the fans ideas that they never would have considered might happen as conclusion to the cliffhanger. For instance, season 4 of TWD most fans wrote off Beth as being dead, eaten at terminus. However, filming spoilers showed she was filming at a hospital. Suddenly a whole world of ideas open up and fans were discussing Beth when before they had just assumed she was dead. Her being alive doesn’t spoil the surprise, it built anticipation for her return.

The traffic generated to spoiler sites and groups shows that the fans are STILL there, still interested in talking about the show, and haven’t left for another show which is airing during the hiatus - something I think most networks would be happy to see.

2) Spoilers should be called teasers - A spoiler is when someone ruins the ending for something and you didn’t want to know. The spoilers that most fandoms deal in are actually “teasers”. Very rarely is the whole picture known, usually it is simply a collection of jigsaw pieces that fans have to work with to try and figure out the whole picture.

It’s like someone has bought you a gift, and they tell you they have bought you a gift so you’re excited. Then they might say “it’s something you mentioned you wanted once.” And now you’re trying to think what it could be, excited at the possibilities. Then you see the shape of the box, and you’ve ruled out some things but other possibilities come to mind, and your excited builds. You open the gift and WOW it IS that thing you hoped it would be! All those teasers do not in any way detract from your excitement at HAVING the gift.

Creating possible scenarios that might happen in the show, based on spoilers, only creates more excitement for the episode - to see if your predictions are right - rather than “spoils” it.

3) Spoilers counteract the “bait and switch” - let’s not pretend, networks and producers LOVE the bait and switch. They love to make viewers believe something is happening when it isn’t or vice versa, so I can understand why networks dislike spoilers for that reason. However, as a fan, spoilers that cut through the bullshit fed by promotional material is wonderful.

For example, the trailer for episode 6x15  of TWD BLATANTLY mislead viewers into believing Daryl was leaving Alexandria to go after Carol. When, in fact, Daryl didn’t even know Carol had gone. That isn’t honest hyping of an episode, that is out and out manipulation to fool the audience into thinking they will see something they wont.

This was also done in the season 5 trailer when lines were in the trailer that never appeared in the show, and scenes were even played backwards to give a different impression. I have no problem with TV shows keeping the meaty parts of stories out of trailers and teasing with scenes which might go one way or the other, but out and out lying about what we WILL see is just playing with your audience in an unpleasant power trip. And all it leads to is a disappointed audience, when what they THOUGHT was happening didn’t.

4) Spoilers help audiences set their expectations - and this is something networks/TPTB show be happy about. When spoilers come out about what will happen in an episode (anything from which cast members don’t appear to who will die) it helps the fans prepare themselves what to expect, and can prevent frustration.

This is especially pertinent in a show like TWD where plots are dropped fro several episodes at a time. Fans tune in expecting to see a development or resolution to that storyline, only to find that storyline isn’t even featured in the episode. This can lead to the audience not paying attention to what IS on screen, and not appreciating the actual content of the episode.

This happened in season 4 of TWD, when Rick banished Carol. Audiences were on tenterhooks waiting to see how Daryl would react to this news. However it would be 4 episodes before Daryl found out, and for those 4 episodes “Carol and Daryl” trended on twitter throughout each episode. When audiences SHOULD have been focussing on Hershel, The Governor and other storylines, they were merely wishing scenes to end in the hopes the next scene would feature the story they wanted to see. That is unfair to the cast and crew of those episodes.

With spoilers, people KNEW the Carol issue wouldn’t be addressed in those episodes so went into them without that expectation and were able to focus more on what WAS happening.

SO often I have seen this myself on tumblr, where someone has posted that they can’t wait for this weeks episode to see X and Y. Those of us who are spoiled then let them know that won’t be happening this week, and the person is ALWAYS relieved to know in advance. Never do they say “Damn you, why did you tell me? i wanted to sit through an hour of TV waiting for something that wasn’t going to come up!”.

People like to set their expectations and spoilers help them.

5) Spoilers help with anxiety - with shows like TWD and GoT fans know that any character, including their favourite, may die at any time. It is very hard to enjoy an episode when you are fearing you may be sobbing in pieces by the end of it. The advance knowledge that a character is going to die, or suffer trauma in some way, is HUGELY helpful to a very large part of the audience who need to emotionally prepare for these kinds of scenes.

I have seen a lot of TWD fans say they simply could not and would not watch live without spoilers. It helps to know of any traumatic event in advance and whilst it helps the fan prepare, it doesn’t in any way negate the impact of the scene.

Just last week GoT gave us a HUGELY emotional storyline with the story of Hodor. I was spoiled for this episode due to it airing in the US 2 days before I could see it. I saw gifsets, I saw reactions, I saw quotes. I knew exactly what was coming. Yet, when I watched it I still sobbed my heart out.

And THIS is the key, TPTB should not be afraid of spoilers if they have faith in their story and their product, because knowledge of the event existing isn’t the whole story. The whole story ONLY happens when the audience watches the scenes in full, glorious action.

If spoilers “ruined” a show, then there would never be another movie or series based on a book or comic. Fans knew every twist in GoT (up until s5) because the stories already existed in book form, yet the show was STILL the most talked about and downloaded show going.

TWD fans KNEW Negan would eventually show up and kill a character in a brutal way, yet still people looked forward to seeing that.

TPTB should stop wasting so much money trying to prevent spoilers, and shut down spoiler sites who most often do FAR MORE to promote the show in the off season than their own PR department. They should have faith that even if you know what’s going to happen, you won’t truly FEEL it until you watch it.

In my 20 years of online fandom, spoilers have fed my excitement, helped me set my expectations and given me huge reasons to talk about a show. They alone are why I’m on tumblr right now.  Spoilers are the life-blood of fandom, and TPTB should realise that.

Look, About Teen Wolf

Here’s exactly how I feel.

If you enjoy the show, you should watch it and keep enjoying it. There are tons of people who watch for reasons different than mine. Totally get that.

I used to love it. I know there would be parts–I see them in gif sets–that I would still love if I were watching season 4. I may eventually watch season 4 out of curiosity. I can’t predict what I might do down the road.

But I’m not watching because I’m really disgusted by the things that occur off the show, the things said about the show, and the general attitude of TPTB toward fans, and that has ruined my enjoyment of the whole thing. Frankly, if I knew nothing of what the actors said about anything, or knew nothing of Sterek fandom online, I think I still would have drifted away from the show by now.

Dylan’s acting in 3b was remarkable. He carried it, and he had a lot to carry, because so much of the rest was just not Teen Wolf to me, it didn’t make a lot of sense to me, and yes, the fact that my two favorite characters didn’t interact for 12 episodes made the show a lot less fun to watch. What I know of season 4 so far would not have undone that sense of loss for me, and I probably wouldn’t be watching even without knowing about all the wank on the sides.

I love Sterek. That would not prevent me from enjoying Derek getting together with someone else, especially Braeden. If only she hadn’t looked at him like a piece of meat while he she was rescuing him from we don’t know how many days of torture, I would feel better about that pairing. She’s absolutely gorgeous, and so they would make a hot couple. To those who will jump to racism, please, know what you’re talking about. This Ichabbie shipper can only shake her head sadly at those accusations. It’s not her color, I promise. But her looking him up and down while chained and her sketchy nature (Derek as punching bag is so overdone at this point) pinged my consent radar, which is probably set to extra-sensitive, given Derek’s history, I’ll admit.

Malia Tate as a character is so problematic, I don’t even care to write it all out. It strains credulity, and though it’s not like Teen Wolf doesn’t do that all the time, this is a particularly egregious case of it. So that combined with the way she and Stiles got together in Eichen House, yes, I have serious issues with that relationship. However, that doesn’t mean I would have a serious problem with Stiles being in a relationship with another character. I’ve always contended I wanted Stiles and Lydia to be besties, but it would make so much more sense for a growing relationship between them to develop than the one they created with Malia. I’m still in awe of that. I have begun to question if Jeff Davis understands the true meanings of consensual, and what his definition of romantic really is. I don’t think it matches most people’s.

If you ship Draeden and Stalia, fine. Enjoy your ships. I may not understand it, but I would never say you’re doing fandom wrong. I’m only trying to explain my personal feelings about them in as non-confrontational a way as possible.

I just feel like pointing out that my problems with the pairings are not because I’m a Sterek fan. I have never believed JD was going to go anywhere near romantic with canon Sterek, so that doesn’t affect me. The fact that he began building their trust and friendship and yanked that away (and yes, I believe it’s an intentional move to suppress the idea of Sterek), that was a deal-breaker for me because where has the fun gone? And that’s without all the rest that happens off-screen.

They queerbaited off the show with Sterek-related comments, videos, etc. I didn’t see it as queerbaiting at the time, because I never believed there’d be canon Sterek. A lot of people were led to believe that, unfortunately. But now they’ve started queerbaiting on the show. Stiles’ conversation with Caitlin (which was nothing, Stiles isn’t gay, according to Dylan) and the Kira/Malia dance scene that even Holland Roden called out as making “so much sense,” complete with eyeroll. All while the character that has been held up as an example of how gay-friendly the show is has been written out, and was only ever used as a token reminder of HEY, GAY in his meager minutes of screen-time per season anyway.

Then there are the things like lack of continuity, his fuck you, fans about things like timelines and even Derek’s age (if you think police reports don’t list an age, grow up; that was a deliberate omission that I found outright stupid and disrespectful), and general decline in the storytelling and my overall enjoyment of the show. I do see gifsets and have a general idea, and I don’t regret not watching.

I don’t feel like fans bombarding JD is wise, nor will it do any good. Season 4 is in the can, and if you think he doesn’t already have plans for season 5, you’re most likely wrong. Fan campaigns will only make him dig in his heels even deeper at this point, in my opinion. The most you will get is pandering off-screen that promises something that won’t materialize (like the official TW tumblr using a gif of Stiles and a gif of Derek, who had no interaction, to pimp an upcoming episode). If that kind of thing doesn’t make you angry or at least question what’s going on, then we just have different perceptions of reality.

So if you love the show for what it is, then love it. I don’t care. But insulting people who aren’t watching it makes little sense to me. I still love the Teen Wolf I used to watch, I still enjoy Sterek, and I’ll still write and read fanfic almost without a doubt. You don’t get to dictate when I should and should not be a part of the fandom at large, or when I should stop posting anything about Teen Wolf (to those couple of asshole asks, anon because of bravery!). I love Tyler Hoechlin. I want to see where Dylan’s career goes. I’ll probably go see TMR. I will always love Derek Hale. I think Mama McCall is the absolute Bomb. None of that has changed.

It’s just that as far as supporting a show–buying it, talking about it and encouraging others to watch (like I used to do with TW)–I can’t do that anymore. I choose to support shows that don’t just claim to offer representation, but actually do it (and they typically do it without chest-beating about it, too). And while not every show I watch is necessarily good for representation, they’re just shows I enjoy, they also don’t tease me with things they turn around and ridicule, nor do they make promises they don’t keep.

I don’t feel foolish while watching them, bottom line.
