[Revised 11/1/17] Book Recommendations for Witches, Spellcasters, and the Curious

I periodically (usually once a year) make an updated post of my annotated bibliographies for witchcraft, magick, and divination studies. I recently noticed that I hadn’t done this in a long time!

Since I’ve read a lot of new books in that time, and since many are worth adding, I thought I’d go ahead and post an updated list.

I’ve added just ten new ones this time! Unfortunately, still, it’s getting quite long, so I’m splitting it into two posts - one for divination, and one for magick/witchcraft.  I will be tagging both as #long and #long+post because I realize this is pretty extreme in terms of length.

For Absolute Beginners

Encyclopedia of Witchcraft, by Judika Illes. Even better than the Weiser Field Guide to Witches - this book is huge and chock-full of information. It’ll explain in easy-to-understand language how the concept has developed throughout time, why witches do what they do, and different types of witches.

The Weiser Field Guide to Witches, by Judika Illes. This gives an excellent look at the historical lore concerning witches, from the perspective of a witch herself. It’s kind of tongue-in-cheek, but it does have some information that won’t be found elsewhere.

The Modern Guide to Witchcraft, by Skye Alexander. Great book for those who’re really absolute beginners and are wondering what witchcraft is all about. Skye takes a very postmodern, utilitarian, and unfailingly honest approach, and it’s geared towards those of almost any belief system.

Grimoire for the Apprentice Wizard, by Oberon Zell-Ravenheart. Attractively packaged and readible for almost all ages, this is a great (mostly) non-denominational look at the foundations of magical practice. It’s extremely detailed. Some of it only applies to Zell’s own tradition, but it’s quite useful, anyways.

Of Witchcraft and Whimsy, by Rose Orriculum. Written by Tumblr’s own @orriculum, this is one of the best, most modern an no-nonsense Craft introductory books I’ve seen. It’s unabashedly up-to-date and self-aware in its portrayal of the contemporary Craft.

Basic Techniques

Protection and Reversal Magick, by Jason Miller. This gets a little woo-woo at times, but he gives good advice on how to avoid serious problems that can come up as you begin to practice. Take with a grain of salt, though - some of this has the potential to make you feel paranoid.

City Magick, by Christopher Penczak. If you’re at all interested in tech witchery, or just want to practice magick within an urban setting, do check this out. It is by far the best look at the subject I’ve seen, and his discussion of urban tutelary spirits is worth the price alone.

Power Spellcraft for Life, by Arin Murphy-Hiscock. Nicely done, quite secular book providing basic beginner information regarding writing original spells and workings. It does fall prey to the trap of just listing correspondences with little information at times, but also contains a great deal of detail about ritual timing, raising power, and other topics essential for the beginner.

Sorcerer’s Secrets, by Jason Miller. This is a decent volume that describes a lot of techniques you don’t usually see in books, such as gesture and gaze-based magick. Be warned that Miller writes extensively about manipulative techniques, but it’s useful theory regardless of how you put it into practice.

Witch’s Bag of Tricks, by Melanie Marquis. This is not recommended for beginners, because the whole point of this book is to help existing practitioners refine and improve their already-established techniques. It’s got some novel ideas in it, and I like the author’s approach to symbolism in spellcasting.

Spirit Conjuring for Witches, by Frater Barrabbas. Frater B. is a very learned and rather famous magician and witch. This book is mostly geared towards Wicca, but even if you’re not Wiccan, his techniques are innovative and interesting, many utterly unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere.

Direct Magick (Energy Work)

The Un-Spell Book, by Mya Om. This non-denominational guide to working with magical forces is filled with useful exercises that go beyond the author’s previous work. I recommend reading this after readingEnergy Essentials.

Instant Magick, by Christopher Penczak. Excellent beginner’s guide for those who don’t have access to a lot of fancy tools or prefer to work without them. This book won’t instantly teach you magick, but it will help even a seasoned practitioner find quicker, less-complicated ways of achieving results.

Energy Essentials for Witches and Spellcasters, by Mya Om. Though I balk at the use of the term “energy” to describe magical forces, this book is worth a look. It’s a bit like a workbook, with various exercises. Expect a lot of pseudoscience, though, and there are many religious references, but the techniques are solid.

Hedgewitchery and Astral Travel

Ecstatic Witchcraft, by Gede Parma. This is actually probably my favorite book on this subject, even though hedgeriding is only a part of what the book discusses. The only bad thing I can really say about this book is that it’s really not recommended for beginners, and it’s helpful to have the basics of visualization already mastered (for example) before doing the exercises Parma recommends.

By Land, Sky and Sea, by Gede Parma. This book goes into even greater details regarding different ways of conceptualizing the cosmology of hedgeriding, and I find it a very refreshing book that appreciatively draws from a number of different perspectives while grounding itself, so to speak, with the overarching metaphor of land, sky, and sea as the three worlds.

The Temple of Shamanic Witchcraft, by Christopher Penczak. Penczak is usually a pretty mixed bag, and this book is no exception. It gives a lot of good practical information and a very in-depth exploration of the three worlds (a useful concept), but it’s primarily framed by Wicca, so it might not resonate with those of other faiths and particularly those who aren’t pagan at all.

Ascension Magick, by Christopher Penczak. There’s a chapter or two in this that address alternate ways of conceptualizing the architecture of reality, and it’s pretty helpful for a hedgerider. Beyond that, this book is mostly about ceremonial magick, but it’s a (mostly) good book. Certain parts (such as the bit about UFOs) are a little off, in my opinion.

The Shamanic Witch, by Gail Wood. This book is really best suited for someone who practices Wicca and, besides the background info and cosmological descriptions, is really only useful in the context of that tradition. If you’re Wiccan or willing to pick around a lot of Wiccan-talk, though, this is a good foundation.

Witches, Werewolves and Fairies, by Claude Lecouteux. It can be hard to find scholarly works on these phenomena that are affordable, but here’s one I personally enjoyed. It details many accounts of journeying experienced by both pagans and Christians in earlier times, and gives a good description of the concept of the astral double, the architecture of the soul, and other topics throughout history.

Betwixt and Between, by Storm Faerywolf. This book is mostly a guide to the Feri tradition of witchcraft, but while I myself don’t practice that, those who do seem to know a lot about hedgeriding! The book has several chapters on the subject and is highly recommended for this reason.

The Psychic Energy Codex, by Michelle Belanger. A lot of people have strong opinions about this author, but this is book actually provides a lot of good information about so-called “energy work” which can be a step in the right direction for those wanting to ride the hedge.

Psychic Dreamwalking, by Michelle Belanger. In this book, Belanger discusses, essentially, how to use your non-waking life as a vehicle to for journeying, and while I myself don’t usually dreamwalk, much of what she says applies to hedgeriding in other states, too.

Hedge Rider by Eric De Vries. Considered a classic on this subject, this book contains a lot of good information on making the jump across the Hedge, but with a lot of editorializing about “true witchcraft,” etc. A mixed bag, but still recommended.

To Fly by Night, edited by Veronica Cummer. This is an anthology about hedgecraft by many different authors. The essays vary in quality but there’s something for everyone, and the text doesn’t shy away from tough topics, either.

Magical Writing, Words, and Symbols

Dictionary of Ancient Magic Words and Spells, by Claude Lecouteux. Mostly a historical text, this book isn’t exactly practical or terribly useful. It is, nevertheless, incredibly interesting. It’s a bit difficult to navigate, but worth a glance.

Composing Magick, by Elizabeth Barrette. A very general, but well-done, look at writing in a magical context. Some of the ritual templates are slightly specific to religious witchcraft traditions, but most information is widely applicable.

Crafting Magick with Pen and Ink, by Susan Pesnecker. Focuses both on the physical act of writing as a magical act, and the mental state associated with it. Highly recommended

The Modern Witchcraft Grimoire, by Skye Alexander. This book is for those who want to create their own grimoire. It gives fairly good advice for doing so, as well as providing hints and tricks for spellcasting and useful correspondences.

General Concepts

Practical Astrology for Witches and Pagans, by Ivo Dominguez, Jr. This book, unlike most astrology texts, won’t tell you much about interpreting a chart - instead, it’s an entire book on timing your magick with the stars!

Planetary Magick, by Melita Denning and Osborne Phillips. If you want to work with the planets at all, particularly in a highly ritualized context, I recommend this book. It’s large, comprehensive and gives a good foundation beyond what you find in general astrology books.

Practical Planetary Magick, by Sorita d’Este and David Rankine. Shorter than I would have liked, but a useful reference to have on your shelf, with excellent tables and appendices in the back. The meditations are also quite useful.

Practical Elemental Magick, by Sorita d’Este and David Rankine. Should be read alongside the other book by this pair. Comprehensive guide to working with the elements in a ritualized fashion. Not as accessible to newbies as Lipp’s book, but good for seasoned practitioners.

The Way of Four, by Deborah Lipp. Though mostly geared towards Wiccans, I found this author’s in-depth treatment of the four elements highly fascinating. I will note that it’s probably best to get the print version of this book, as it contains exercises and quizzes.

A Handbook of Saxon Sorcery and Magic, by Alric Albertsson. I really enjoyed this little book, which focuses on older magical traditions common among the ancient Saxons. It is very much introductory, but worth a read for those new to those traditions.

Ingredients and Correspondences

The Herbal Alchemist’s Handbook, by Karen Harrison. I cannot praise this book enough for its concise and well-formulated approach to astrology, herbs, and magick as a whole.

The Weiser Concise Guide to Herbal Magick, by Judith Hawkins-Tillirson. This is excellent for anyone who’s interested in any kind of magick. Yes, the focus is generally herbs, but there’s a lot to be learned here about Kabbalah and other correspondence systems, as well.

Mixing Essential Oils for Magic, by Sandra Kynes. Fills a very difficult gap in published knowledge regarding the use of essential oils by discussing, in great detail, how scents interact with each other and how to create a formula that’s not only palatable, but evocative.

Dunwich’s Guide to Gemstone Sorcery, by Gerina Dunwich. Given the New Age fascination with all things shiny, it was quite a chore to sort through the myriad crystal books to find something with good information. While far from perfect and not exactly devoid of fluff, this book does give a level of detail about the lore surrounding gemstones not seen in many other texts.

Real Alchemy, by Robert Allen Bartlett. Excellent book, lots of history and detail. There’s a strong focus on tradition within the text, yet the author is quite accommodating of his audience and describes alternate methods that work better in a modern context.

Spagyrics, by Manfred M. Junius. With a highly-developed academic tone and attention to detail, this book is a meaty look at traditional alchemy. I recommend this more for intermediate practitioners due to the sheer density of information.

The Hearth Witch’s Compendium, by Anna Franklin. This book is essentially a recipe book for various home remedies and magical purposes. For the most part, it focuses on healing work, but there’s some great tips in there for making your own cleaning products and such, too. Highly recommended.

Magical Housekeeping, by Tess Whitehurst. This is worth reading if you keep your own house/apartment and are looking for practical magical techniques for cleanliness and inviting harmony into your spaces. It could be more detailed, but I enjoyed it.

A Kitchen Witch’s Cookbook, by Patricia Telesco. This is a recipe book. It is mainly geared towards Wiccans and those who celebrate the eight sabbats, but the dishes are tasty and sure to please anyone.

Spellbooks

The Goodly Spellbook, by Dixie Deerman and Steve Rasmussen. The title sounds horribly fluffy, but this is a hidden gem. It explains obscure concepts like alternative alphabets and potential uses of musical notes, as well as plant lore and other bits and pieces. Definitely worth checking out. It’s way more than just “a book of spells.”

Encyclopedia of 5,000 Spells, by Judika Illes. The title sounds trite to some, but it delivers. This book has spells from almost every culture and spiritual philosophy, as well as a very detailed formulary. I read it when I’m bored sometimes, too, just because I always learn some tidbit from it.

Book of Spells, by Nicola Pulford. In most editions, this book is absolutely gorgeous and describes spellcasting traditions from a variety of perspectives and traditions. Recommended for those who already understand the basics, as this book jumps straight into spellcasting and gives only a small amount of information about how things work.

Ceremonial Magick

Modern Magick, by Donald Michael Kraig. I received this as a gift several years ago. It is essentially a workbook meant to be completed slowly, step by step, and while the format will not appeal to everyone, it’s a good easy-to-read introduction to ceremonial magick.

Familiar Spirits, by Donald Tyson. Though geared towards ceremonialists, any practitioner can likely learn a thing or two from Tyson’s interesting stroll through the whys and wherefores of spirit work and thoughtform creation. This is by far the best book I’ve seen on the topic of familiar spirits.

Secrets of High Magick, by Francis Melville. The most recent edition of this (the one I own) is lavishly-illustrated and full of rudimentary, yet useful information. He stresses the basics of ceremonial practice, and his writing style is very accessible. Highly recommended for absolute beginners.

My Life With The Spirits, by Lon Milo DuQuette. This is a memoir of a ceremonial magician, but it gives a good look at the magickal mindset in a highly developed form from someone who’s experienced quite a lot. I havemajor issues with DuQuette’s approach to Qabalah, but his memoirs are worth a read.

Chaos Magick

Liber Null and Psychonaut, by Peter Carroll. Classic book of chaos magick. I consider it required reading for almost anyone interested in the occult. Even if you have no love for chaos magick, do give it a read, just to understand how influential Carroll is, and why.

Hands-On Chaos Magic, by Andrieh Vitimus. Knowing some of the people involved in the creation of this book, I’m a bit biased towards it. That said, even if I didn’t know them, I would still recommend it. It’s especially interesting to read alongside Liber Null and Psychonautin order to see how the chaos “current” has developed over the years.

Pop Culture Magic 2.0 by Taylor Ellwood. There aren’t a lot of books on using pop culture symbolism in magick, but this one is nearly perfect. The author writes in a highly erudite, literate fashion, while still being accessible to newbies. Many useful resources cited, as well, so prepare to branch off a bit while reading it.

History-Related

Triumph of the Moon, by Ronald Hutton. An inside no-holds-barred look at the history of Wicca and Modern paganism. Highly recommended. This is sort of the book that fluffbunnies don’t want you to read.

Book of Lies: The Disinformation Guide to Magick and the Occult, by Richard Metzger. Lots of facts and history of magick in the context of Postmodernity. This is different from the Crowley text of the same name, which I wouldn’t recommend unless you want to focus on his tradition.

The Place of Enchantment, by Alex Owen. This is a purely historical text that documents the occult revival within the context of Modernity. I remember it being very good, but please realize I haven’t really picked it up much since graduating, and it might just have served my mindset at the time.

Why Midoriya Izuku is the Best Shounen Main Character

Alright so I’m pretty guilty right now. I have a lot of things to sort out and I still unanswered asks and oh boy do I got a lot of fanfic writing to do before summer ends and I’m opening requests soon but JESUS Y’ALL. Im a huge fan of this series and I’ll be damned if I miss writing something for this boy’s birthday. I already missed writing my Inko appreciation on her birthday but I won’t let her down!

So…HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MIDORIYA IZUKU AKA BEST SHOUNEN MC

Woah, broad statement to say huh? Well, my friends, I’ve read a lot of manga, particularly shounens since that’s my more favorite genre, and I have to say that Midoriya Izuku has been the best main character I’ve ever read and I only hope he continues to grow into his beautiful character.

I mean even from the beginning of the manga, the way he was written was so completely relatable and realistic. In the very beginning of the manga, he was written to be this lonely boy who suffered through bullying and suicide comments and continuously kept going because of his obsession with heroes. From the very beginning, Horikoshi gave us this character that wasn’t perfect (rather was filled with psychological issues) and really at the bottom of the totem pole. I know a lot of people have compared Izuku with Naruto but at least Naruto was born with an incredibly gifted ability from the start. Izuku was literally born with nothing. In a society where there are heroes running rampant and where Izuku dreams about being a hero, he was literally born with all odds against him in that regard. Yet, through all the loneliness, through all the bullying, Izuku still stayed strong through all of that and continued to dream on his goal, only truly wavering once when All Might told him he should find a new dream (and even then, he still got himself almost killed but I’ll get to that in a bit).

And to add on to his realistic demeanor, I know a lot of people call Izuku a cry baby and make fun of his constant amount of crying but honestly? Imagine this: you were born a black sheep in society, everyone looks down on you, you dream of being something great but you weren’t born with the skills for it, someone you consider to be a friend looks down on you and literally tells you to go jump off a building and destroys a piece of you that you hold memorable, then you almost get killed but someone saves you, then you finally get to meet your idol, the person keeping you alive essentially and they tell you straight up that you should give up on your dream, then you’re devastated but you see that friend in a life threatening position so you literally sacrifice yourself to go save them even though you can’t do anything, and then instead of praise, you get all the blame and beaten down again while your friend gets all the praise, but then you end that EMOTIONAL DAY (keep in mind it happened within a DAY) with your idol telling you that you can be that person and he will help you achieve your dream. I won’t even go onto the other times he’s cried but honestly? I know if I was in his position, I wouldn’t have even stomached half of what happened and I’m sure most of you reading this wouldn’t be able to have a DAY like that without crying. I’m sure with 99% of you, at least once tears will shed. Izuku during his time has been through emotionally exhausting feats and I think it’s absolutely INCREDIBLE that Horikoshi gives us this raw character with RAW emotions. Through Izuku being this emotional, not only does it help us relate to him much more but it helps shows that, hey you can still be strong AND be emotional too. Emotions doesn’t equal weakness and Horikoshi really shows that tremendously, especially when the audience are a group of young ones-adults that are taught daily showing emotions is weak and you have to be strong and not show weakness because apparently crying shows weakness. With Izuku, all of that is stomped on the ground and it’s truly inspiring.

And oh boy, my favorite part of Izuku! So most shounen protagonists I have seen and come across are usually born or given this great ability suddenly and yes, while they have to train, they normally get the hang of it pretty quickly and are pretty op with it (I’m looking at you Natsu). Most of the time nakama power is enough to win the battle even though the power difference is crazy different. Yet with Izuku, it’s not like that at all. We are 145 chapters in and Izuku can only still use a small portion of One for All still and he’s gotten to the point where, because of his continuous idiotic use of One for All, he has the major consequence that if he uses it too much at 100%, he could lose FUNCTION IN HIS ARMS. OH YEA, PRETTY BIG DEAL AND CONSEQUENCE FOR THAT.

From what I just wrote, this was my favorite thing that was said:

Yes, folks, he not only says that once, not twice, but multiple times throughout the series. I think the most recent time he said it was during Episode 27 when he was climbing the walls, though I’m sure he’s said it in the future arcs and I forgot about it. Due to this new given status he was given, Izuku acknowledges that he is completely far behind from everyone else, he understands that he is at the bottom of the totem pole and that he has to work 10x harder than everyone else since he lost about 10-11 years to get used to his quirk. And throughout the series, Horikoshi doesn’t pull back on that, in fact he really drives it in that, while Izuku does become the greatest hero of all time, it doesn’t happen overnight, it takes a lot of time, training and consequences to get to that point. Even from the beginning, we were given a small glimpse of his incredible training regime and that alone just shows how much effort he has to put in and even that wasn’t enough. I won’t lie, it feels so refreshing that the Main Character isn’t some overpowered person who always gets away with his ridiculous moves, rather it’s nice that he does have consequences and that he see him actually develop into that role while he is being surrounded by others who could take that title from him.

Also, not only is he an intelligent and incredibly hard worker like holy hell, but can we talk about his personality as well? See, here is another perk about Izuku, we weren’t given some either suave person or an annoying character that makes you want to rip out your hair because they’re either too happy or too sad or too emo cringey mess. Rather, Horikoshi gave him a realist personality who thinks through, is incredibly modest and respectful, and holy fuck the most selfless character in the entire show.

I mean, we already know his intelligence and craftiness as he analyzes heroes and their moves as seen through the constant muttering he does as he watches them and his writings in his notebook

Which might I add right now that I’m really happy Horikoshi gave him this type of analytic behavior as it makes his earlier actions have a bit more sense involved in them, like due to his constant observation he was able to use moves in combat that at least got him by in the beginning

To also tie in with that, can I say that it is so refreshing to have a main character be a complete DORK about girls and such like that?? Like for someone who was lonely and only had much of the internet to interact with, it makes complete sense that in the beginning he’s really nervous around females or even touching them or talking to them.

Like look at how he talks to Ochako

Or even how he reacted when Tsuyu said to put her down

Or even how he reacted towards Mei when she had her chest all up in his grill.

Not only does having this personality trait make him a total dork and cutie but it really shows that we won’t see anything super perverted on Deku’s side. Like if he’s too nervous to talk or even touch a girl in a different manner, than it really shows how respectful he is and how modest he is and how we won’t see any pervy side of Deku anytime soon, which is refreshing for an MC to be that way since most MCs have to either touch or acknowledge their love interest’s chest before they can be established as a good character.

Though, I will say that even though those are amazing points of our birthday boy, the one personality trait of his that truly makes him a much more fitting hero than Bakugou or even Todoroki or even my baby Ochako is how incredibly SELFLESS he is. Ok ok I know that’s a common personality trait but Izuku really takes it to the max throughout the manga.

Like when right after he was told to jump by Bakugou, his initial thoughts were based on Kacchan not wanting to get severely punished by the law

Or when he risks his life to save Bakugou from the sludge monster even though he has no quirk

Or when he risks his life once again to save Ochako even though he can’t control his quirk

Or when he risks his life AGAIN to save All Might

Or when he attempts to help Ochako before her fight with Bakugou

Or when he puts his spot in the tournament on the line to help Todoroki reconcile his fire side

Or when he helps Iida with the Stain fight and notifies the entire class to come and help

Or when he even goes well over his power limit to save Kota and show him that heroes are good people that can hold on their own

Or when, even though he could lose function in his GOD DAMN ARMS, he still helps the others get Bakugou back from the villains

And note guys, I didn’t even list everything. I just listed the things I could remember but there is so much more that I could have listed as well. And legit, the things I mentioned, there was no benefit in him doing that, like during the time he did them, all there were were cons for him, there was nothing positive in any of those situations for him. And yet? He still did it. He still put himself and his wishes behind to help those around him and make sure they were successful or safe, even if it meant his own life on the line. I’ve never seen other shounen protagonists push themselves this much in only 145 chapters and I think that’s absolutely incredible.

Alright so this post is reaching to be about 2k and while I can say more about this wonderful boy, I also want to make sure that I not only post this on time but that I don’t find myself repeating the same thing over and over again. While Izuku is not my favorite character of all time, I am so happy and blessed that he is the main character of this amazing manga series. He’s grown so much since the first chapter and Horikoshi is only setting up the series more to have him grow much more and I’m excited to see how much more he grows as the series progresses. He is such a good character that is well balanced and realistic and such and I know for myself personally that I really relate to him in a lot of ways. Truth be told, it makes me actually really incredibly sad when people dismiss his reasoning for being a hero or when people just write him off as a cry baby because there’s so much more to him than just that. His reasoning to be a hero is realistic and deep enough, his emotions are realistic, his psychological issues that he faced with in the beginning shows his strength tremendously.

Izuku is one of the best main characters and I’m so happy all of us were blessed with him on this wonderful day! Yay!!! Happy Birthday Deku!!!

Tldr; Izuku’s face appears when you look up the definition of what a friend and a hero is.

healingmagicandaspirin  asked:

I know you like Bakugou and all, but like...I wish he'd gotten off a little less easy for this, sorry. It's getting frustrating for me to watch him being coddled and all of his abusive actions being excused (a bad mental health day/week/month/whatever does NOT excuse the harm someone does to people) and him constantly getting off with a slap on the wrist or no punishment at all for bullying people. Kind of wish the school would just tell him they'll expel him if he doesn't get his act together.

Bakugou has been kidnapped, used as a hostage, all but molested (i mean, what else would you call what the Sludge villain did to him?) all at the age of 14, then he lost to someone he had a superiority complex over for nearly a decade and nearly (or did, depending on your point of view of how that scene went) had an emotional breakdown because of it, won the Sports Festival only because Todoroki couldn’t use his full power against him and Bakugou won in a way that was utterly unsatisfactory to him and felt like Todoroki couldn’t even bother to fight Bakugou at his fullest b/c Bakugou wasn’t worth it, went to Best Jeanist to train and instead basically wasted time and had his hair and clothes styled/changed for him, was forced to swallow his pride and work with Izuku to beat All Might which frustrated him to the point of tears (and he nearly gave up instead, which, for a boy who’s very model of what a hero is is based on Always Winning, this is a Big Thing), was kidnapped AGAIN by Shigaraki and was terrified out of his mind during it, was kidnapped IMMEDIATELY AFTARWARDS by AFO and had to be rescued by his classmates so he wouldn’t become a burden for All Might, and then blamed himself for All Might losing his powers and retiring, failed the Provisional Licence exam because of his bad behavior, breaks down again because all the guilt, the shame, the frustration to losing to Izuku, and confusion and struggle and everything, was finally too much for him to handle and he literally had no idea what to do until All Might showed up and explained everything.

from the very first chapter, Bakugou has been systematically punished by the narrative, over and over and over again. not specifically for his treatment of Izuku, but it’s not as if he’s been unpunished for his actions, either, and i’m sure that this is Horikoshi’s intent for having all of this happen to Bakugou in the first place.

Bakugou is going to apologize and make up for his actions towards Izuku, i know he will. but you can’t force him to do it because he’s not ready to as of right now.

but he is going to make up for it somehow, because that is where the narrative is heading, and he’s already heading there as of the last chapter.

he’s giving Izuku advice. he’s framing it in an insulting way, but he’s giving Izuku advice on how to improve his fighting style. he never would have done that before all of this.

the narrative is basically hitting Bakugou where it hurts constantly, over and over again, and forcing him to change and learn from his behavior, whether he wants to or not.

i’m not excusing what he did to Izuku, because he did a lot of horrible things and he needs to make up for his actions. but in the span of just a few months, this kid has been through a lot and he has indeed been punished and put down by the narrative in many, many different ways that are specifically designed to hit him in the places it’ll hurt him the most

i’ve never excused his actions, but he’s just a kid, and kids can only take so much before they begin to break. god, he’s just a 15 year old child.

and again, it’s not as if he’s been unpunished by his behavior. he was absolutely punished for his bad attitude during the Provisional License exam by failing it, and he’s going to have to take extra classes in order to make up for it. if he were being coddled, he would’ve still passed regardless his bad attitude towards the victims.

Horikoshi does him no favors.

he’s been punished enough by the narrative, and i do think that Aizawa gave them a fair punishment for their actions. their whole fight was framed as a schoolyard fight between two frustrated kids, after all.

it wasn’t really about the fight. it wasn’t about who beat who. the whole fight was there just so that these characters, these two children, could finally have an outlet for their emotions because they’ve never tried to talk to each other before, and this was the only way.

they’ve never tried to express their emotions to each other before. they’ve never tried to listen. this is something both of these characters needed.

being told that he’ll be expelled isn’t going to help his behavior. it’ll do the opposite, if anything. any more punishment than what they received would be overkill.

they acted like children, so they’re being treated like children. they’re doing chores and cleaning just like any kids who broke the rules would.

Aizawa gives fair punishments. if he doesn’t think someone has potential, he expels them.

and also, please note: neither Izuku or Bakugou were seriously injured from their fight. otherwise, Aizawa would’ve sent them to Recovery Girl. all they got were some scratches, cuts, and bruises.

when Bakugou challenged Izuku and Todoroki, i wouldn’t be surprised if Aizawa was considering the idea of expulsion. however, Izuku and Bakugou were forced to be partners and, after a while, they were able to work together and pass the End of Term exam, so whatever might’ve happened otherwise was dropped.

but make no mistake, Bakugou’s behavior here was noted by Aizawa, and Bakugou was forced to move past this attitude and work with Izuku as punishment.

back to the events of the recent chapters, All Might even says that the events that happened between Bakugou and Izuku were just as much the adult’s fault as it was the kid’s. the children’s mental and emotional health is just as important as their strength and growth as heroes, and Bakugou seriously needed some help with that.

and, not to mention, All Might let them fight it out. he eavesdropped long enough to know about Bakugou’s guilt, and let Bakugou and Izuku fight and express their emotions this way, because honestly, i don’t think they could’ve been able to talk it out in any other way. i’m not saying this is healthy behavior, because god knows it isn’t, but for these two it may have been the only way for them to clear the air.

and it worked.

they’re both on their way to having a much, much less toxic relationship than what they had before. they might not be friends, but their relationship is much more positive compared to what it was before, because they finally let out all of those nasty emotions.

Bakugou and Izuku are much more calm, and are able to have a conversation now without it turning violent or angry. they got all of those complicated emotions out of their system and finally talked it out, if at least a little, and both are going to be better from it.

hell, Bakugou even fully admitted that he threw the first punch. in no way is he blaming izuku for what happened. Bakugou is taking full responsibility for what he did.

and again, Bakugou is giving Izuku advice. he’s helping Izuku in a very backwards, round about way, because it’s the only way he knows. but he’s still helping Izuku, something he absolutely would never have done before.

Bakugou is growing. he’s learning. whether he wants to or not, he’s changing for the better, and he’s starting to realize that he is changing. that maybe he has to change. maybe he needs to.

he’s already showing a positive change after this fight. he’s taking responsibility for his actions, he’s not blaming Izuku, he’s giving Izuku advice, and he’s worrying about All Might’s secret getting out. punishing him for any more would be overkill, and it wouldn’t have anymore positive outcomes then what’s already been achieved.

he’s just a kid. he acted like a kid. he’s getting punished like any kid would be.

SNK ENDING THEORY

The recent chapter got me wondering how SNK is going to end. While it looked like a deceptively straightforward chapter it made me realise something very big.

So we know that in one generation there are a total of nine shifters each with a power of one particular Titan. The way to pass on the power is to either get eaten or die after living the shortened life span of 13 years after which the co-ordinate (a bond that connects all Eldians) will pick a seemingly random Eldian to inherit the powers.

This got me thinking; What if a titan shifter eats another shifter? Will they get the power of two Titans?

Now we know for the fact that this is in fact possible.
Grisha (the attack titan) ate Frieda Reiss and gained her powers which in turn was passed on to Eren when he ate Grisha.

Thus reducing the number of titan shifters from nine to eight with the power of two Titans with Eren.

Now here is how I think it will end.

One shifter will have to eat all the rest, thus gaining the power of all nine shifters. Eren seems like the most likely candidate because he possesses the powers of the co-ordinate which means that if they find a way to kill him in a way that snaps the bond of the co-ordinate to the Eldian’s then he can put a stop the Titan curse and prevent it from passing on to others as he’ll die possessing the power of all nine titans.

By doing this the co-ordinate will snap thus freeing all Eldian’s of the curse making them unable to turn into Titans. This will also subsequently mean that all the mindless Titans will revert back to humans as they will also lose the ability to become Titans in the first place without the co-ordinate tying them together.

It will solve the Marley and Eldia crisis too as the Eldians no longer possess a threat to Marley without the Titan genes thus putting a stop to the discrimination and separation.

Now if this is true we have to consider a few things.

1)Eren WILL die.
I think this is inevitable no matter what the end is because Eren has never been the AND then he lived happily ever after character. Sacrificing himself for the sake of saving humanity and quite literally ending all Titans while doing so is the thing that fits him perfectly.

2)Eren will have to eat Armin.
This is the worst part of this theory but also the thing that makes me positive that this theory maybe quite true.

For the life of me I couldn’t figure out why Armin became a shifter. It’s utterly out of place for his character and I just can’t see him fitting into the category of the other Titan shifters such as Annie, Eren, Ymir, etc because he’s a strategist over everything else and definitely not a fighter like the rest.

But then again what better way of tearing the readers hearts out than making Eren eat Armin and truly weigh the cost of saving humanity, a goal that he’s been so set for since the beginning. It’s the only thing that will make him waver, we saw how he and Mikasa were willing to go to whatever lengths to save him and the fact that they fought so hard to keep him alive only for this end makes it a whole lot more crueler yet fitting of the entire them of SNK. Armin I feel is the kind to readily accept it and sacrifice himself just like he did during the battle in shiganshina.

A lot of people think that since Armin is the narrator he’ll be alive by the end of it. I personally think this story has no narrator but is simply being read out from Armin’s journal which he was seen writing in 88.

3)Mikasa will be the last one standing.
No matter which way I look at it this is probably the most sound theory of all. It’s not only because of the dream panel we had in chapter one where Eren saw Mikasa saying goodbye but it’s because there is no other way her ending can go.

A cruel and beautiful ending just like her character.

While she’ll be alive to see the world freed from Titans it will be only after both Eren and Armin have been cruelly snatched away from her leaving her all alone but yet giving her the opportunity to be her own person.

This is an end that will show character development and with her saying goodbye to Eren when he’s about to die will mark her development into someone who can stand on her own now thus fulfilling what Isayama had said in his interview of them having a bittersweet ending where Mikasa will become her own person and stand on her own two feet without depending on Eren.

I think this is how SNK is going to end but God I hope I’m wrong. I won’t be handle any of this.

First words [One-shot]

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU READ!

First!

This little one-shot was inspired on two things:

-My relationship with my sister

-The manga “Shugo Chara”. For those who know the manga, it’s based from the chapter when the guardians go to Yaya’s house.

Second!

I tried to adjust Blueprint’s story to PaperJam’s story. So, since (according to his description) he lived with Ink until a certain age, he met Blueprint before the others. I also tried to make him the most canonically possible, but adjusting his personality to the story.

Third!

As you may know, English is not my first language. I deeply apologise if there are any Errors in the story. I checked it lots of times and hope there’s not a single Error ovo

DISCLAIMER:

*Ink!Sans belongs to @comyet

*PaperJam/PJ belongs to @7goodangel (I’m sorry if I didn’t make PJ’s personality too well. I tried to stick the “a jerk on the outside but a big child inside” part and this was what I got. Sorry ;u;)

Secondary characters

*Gradient belongs to @askcomboclub

*Moku belongs to  @6agentgg9

And last, but not least

*Blueprint belongs to, well, me!

Hope you guys like it!

This will be narrated from PaperJam’s perspective.

I never was good with new people. And I wasn’t very happy when you came.

One day, Ink just came “home” with a baby, claiming that it was my “new brother”. I didn’t understand what was he saying with that, and then he showed you to me, my new little brother.

I wasn’t happy with this. I didn’t want a brother. I mean, Ink couldn’t even take care of me, why would he want to have another one? To let them here alone and forgotten with me? Wow, good plan, dad. However, he told me that you only would be staying with us for a day so I could get to know you, since bonding with brothers was very important and blah blah blah…

We spend a few hours talking about you and how you came to life. Apparently, you were just an accident, but not a bad one. And since he created you, you were my brother. Well, step-brother, because Blueberry was the other one that created you. I couldn’t help but feel a little bit jealous… you were going to have caring parents and a better life than mine. What if Ink actually forgot entirely about me?

Yeah, the idea of having a brother was becoming less and less “exciting” to me.

But then, just before I started to think more things like that (which I thought was very rare for me), Ink suddenly had to go (I wasn’t surprised, with his work of protecting AUs and all; he barely had time to be here), cutting our conversation just when I actually started to enjoy it. Ink stood from the sofa and was about to open a portal when he realised something important:

Who was going to take care of you?

He told me that Blueberry and… Honey… I think, were with the other versions of them and he couldn’t take you to wherever they were. So, he had only one option… that I didn’t like, at all.

Why I had to take care of you?! I didn’t ask him for a brother and I didn’t know how to take care of a baby. I was five years old! I was starting to learn how to write and read! I remember arguing with him for a while, until I had to accept.

But not without asking something in return, of course.

In the end, he went to do whatever he needed and I was left alone with you. An awkward atmosphere formed where we were, since you found my face very interesting and kept your eyes on me for a really long time. I tried my best to ignore you, but you were too much persisting and even threw me some mini bones at me to gain my attention.

What a smart baby, huh? Well, we were magic skeleton monsters after all. But it was becoming annoying.

“What do you want?” I asked you and you only looked at me and babbled something. I instantly felt stupid, remembering that Ink told me you haven’t said your first word yet. how would you even tell me what you needed? You kept looking at me and then, surprisingly, your stomach made a noise.

Right… now I had to feed you.

Making something for you was horrible. I mean, we were in the Anti-Void and only had some snacks since we didn’t really need to eat, but being you a recently made creation, obviously needed to consume something, even if you had your HP full. Eventually, I found some milk and gave it to you, ending getting milk on my face and shirt because you apparently didn’t know how to drink it.

That was enough for me.

Usually, I’m not a person that gets mad easily. However, I did get mad that time. I stood abruptly from my seat and went to clean my face, leaving you alone on the sofa. Ink told me to not leave you, but I didn’t care. I wanted to be alone and so I did. I went to my bedroom (well, it’s not a real bedroom… just a bed that Ink made for me) and stayed here for a few hours. Maybe three or four…

It wasn’t until I heard a soft sound that I didn’t get up from my bed. And when I did, I instantly paled: You were lying on the floor crying softly. Your soft cries barely reaching my non-existent ears. And it wasn’t the worst. No, no.

You were blushing and sweating a lot. Were you sick? In that moment I didn’t know.

Quickly, I went to your side and picked you up, checking if you had hurt yourself from the fall. Luckily you didn’t have any bruises, but your skull was very hot. Now you were sick? And I was alone.

Great!

How you could get sick so easily and fast? I didn’t understand that at all! Was that the real reason of why Ink brought you here? So he could watch over you while Blueberry and Honey were busy? If that was the reason, he was very irresponsibly by leaving you with me: a child, taking care of another child!

I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t use magic to help you, I couldn’t ask Ink for help, I couldn’t open a portal and find Blueberry… I couldn’t do anything. And I was scared.

What if something happened? What if you started to feel worse? What if…

What if you died?

Those thoughts were swirling in my head, making me fell worst and worst. I didn’t want you to die.

Come on! You had a great life ahead! You would have a caring family and friends and maybe… maybe we would have been friends! I should have watched you. Maybe if I haven’t left you alone…

I couldn’t help to feel guilty, even knowing that it wasn’t my fault that got sick. In that moment, I didn´t cared about anything, just you.

It was in that moment when Ink decided that he should go home, and so he did. He came to the Anti-Void and found me on the sofa, hugging you like it was the last time I’d see you and honestly, that’s what I thought. He rushed to my side, worryingly asking what was wrong. I wasted no time and explained him what happened, apologising for being a bad brother and almost crying

Almost, ok?

What I wasn’t expecting was that Ink just took you and, with a quick spell, healed you. I mean, I knew magic were fast and efficient but, that was just too fast. When I asked him why, he explained that you were having some problems with your soul.

You see, brother (and also you, reader), Ink told me you were created without a soul, since you were just a magic drawing. So, he made an artificial one for you with the same paint he used to create you. Apparently, he didn’t want you to become like some “evil flower”.

Your soul was like your eyes: a blue diamond. And that soul was filled with Prussian blue paint that could give you the emotions you needed. It seemed like your body wasn’t used to having it yet and would make you sick from time to time. I didn’t quite understand that, but I was relieved when he said you would be fine.

The rest of the day was peaceful. Ink and I talked about random things while you slept. It was… nice, being with them like we were a family. That’s what we are, right? Yeah, right.

Eventually it was time to bring you back home. Ink said that you won’t be coming anytime soon because he wanted to protect you from dangerous people (aka, Error). It kind of made me sad, not being able to talk you again for a long time, but… it had to be done, hadn’t it? Ink made a portal back to Underswap and gave me time to say goodbye to you. After that, he started to walk to the portal, stopping when you started to squirm under his grasp.

Curious, I walked to the portal. You immediately looked at me and gave me a huge simile, saying (or trying to say) something that made us look at you in surprise:

My name. Yes, my name!

It was kind of babbled and wasn’t my full name but… It was your very first word. And it wasn’t “dad” or “mom”… no, it was “PJ”

You didn’t have idea of how happy you made me that day. The day when I found you, disliked you and then liked you and accepted the idea that we were brothers. And, in the bottom of my soul, I hoped to see you again.

Maybe having a little brother wouldn’t be that bad, right?

————————————–

I hope you liked it! It was an idea I had for while uvu and really needed to make it. We now know more about Print and PJ’s relationship. I won’t say PJ likes him because he’s not my character and don’t want to say incorrect things (since he isn’t one to make friends). So, I only will say that Blueprint’s first words made him very happy.

I’m sorry if it looks rushed, but this isn’t a story. It just PaperJam talking with Blueprint and telling him the story (with some people spying on them(?))

anonymous asked:

hi, what bughead fics are you currently reading and why. thx -anon

This is a very big question, GrayFace. Firstly. I read a lot of fic. A LOT of fic. I love all the tumblr one-shots from our immensely talented Bughead writers. I wish all of them posted them on Ao3 so I could comment and squee all over again along with all the other one-shots I’ve read and reviewed. There are only officially a total of 595 Bughead fics on Ao3 right now - and I would guess I’ve read at least 500 of them…

However, I get the feeling the question is talking about the WIPs I’m following at the moment. I’ve subscribed to 19 pages worth of fics for all different fandoms - so I can’t really give a concise answer.

How about I just share a bunch of Bughead fics (because let’s be honest - like 90% of those of you who actually actively interact with me are fellow Buggies) - that I am EAGERLY awaiting updates on. As of right now - none of these are complete - and only SOME of the fics I have alerts for.

Long Live Rock by @ficmuse- because seriously, unless you’re new here - you already know that FM is my girl. The BLT series should be required reading for a Bughead shipper.

Chiaroscuro by @formergirlwonder- LITERALLY filmed in black and white. It’s Film Noir at it’s VERY finest. I can’t get enough of this fic.

The Stacks by @malmo722- Juggie and V are the best of friends and V is a big Bughead shipper. I love them.

fall in light by sylwrites  - DUDE. It’s just about over and I’m not prepared. One of my most favourite Bughead fics ever. Roomates->Friends->Lovers  **just finished this afternoon**

I’ll Wait for You by @a-girl-named-whiskey - Underground Racing Bughead. Need I say more?

tell them we sold out by thedeadsea33  - DUDE. Fight!Club Bughead. We need more. So much more of this. What does a fangirl have to do to get more of this?

In the Still of the Night by BlueLonghand  - Amazing. I don’t know how else to describe it.

Behind the Rear Window by @jugandbettsdetectiveagency- Rear Window AU

1971. by @katiedegennaro- set in the 70s. Super good. Mystery and Journalism.

Do You Believe in Fate? by @jennimisk - Because it’s a Bughead in Italy AU and it’s wonderful.

Skin to Skin by @burgerheadjones - Soulmate AUs are my BAG. I wish there were a million more of them. I love them.

the winged beast by @onceuponamirror - I’m a sucker for Juggie from the Southside.

Make It Work by @raptorlily - because Fake Dating is awesome. Also because all of raptorlilly’s fics are awesome. Also  And Other Collisions  - because.

red sunrise by @lusterrdust - Zombies and Bughead! Nearly complete - but seriously, I’m subscribed to Luster - so I get notified every time she posts anything and I stop what I’m doing and read it. Because it’s Luster.

Needing/Getting by slantedsunlight -  SKI TRIP Bughead! It’s AU but it’s fabulous and I’m dying for more.

That Primeval Cosmic Night by LoneWulffe  - this one just started but there are dreams involved and I’m parking myself right here waiting for more.

Bughead by @wordgirl80 - Goes along with the episodes - but is SO much more. And I’ve managed to convince her to continue through the summer instead of waiting until the new season picks up. You’re welcome.

Finding a home by @bughead4days- Serpent!Betty. Honesty I would read anything Erika writes - even if it was just Bughead watching paint dry - so I’m biased here. And there are quite a few of her fics that are WIPs and I’m waiting on all of them:  A Dangerous GameTurf Wars - seriously all of them.

Shuffle Off This Mortal Coil by @it-happened-one-starry-night - A sweet take on Bughead getting married young and the traumas that surround that.

Softening the Edges by Ruby_JW - through their whole friendship - vignettes from their past. This is really good.

Ash and Smoke by saltyhowell - SOUTHSIDE REPRESENT!

We are all Riverdale by NyGi  - Post S1 - and super good. the update today had me emotional.

Jughead’s Circular File by AvenuePotter  - I feel a lot of feels when I read a new chapter of this. It’s full of pain and angst but I love Juggie’s voice in it.

The Boy on the Bike by SereneCalamity - AU - Betty and Juggie meet in LA. So good. There are motorcycles. lol.

Gun Song by Shippershape - it’s been so long since this was updated but it’s also so amazing and awesome. Maybe if other people go forth and fangirl that will help the author know we’re dying for more?

Edited after because I suck!
Self Conclusion by @betsforsythetrash
 - warning mentions of suicide attempts but also so super good.

I’m still working on my giant spreadsheet of fics (but I recently got distracted trying to write my own Bughead fic). The list is still gonna happen though - Complete and WIPs too - but the fic needs to happen too.

So yeah. I hope this answers your question, Grayface. And remember - this isn’t an exhaustive list. There are lots of fics I’m still reading and probably didn’t add to the list. If you wrote one and I missed it - I’m sincerely sorry. Love to all of you!

The Dark Side Awaits

The cast and director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi give us the lowdown on new creatures, new cast members and who might be going to the dark side.

SciFiNow Magazine #139

[ I transcribed this myself so please credit + link back to me if you’re sharing/quoting anything from this piece ]

Most film franchises like to play their cards close to their chests, but Star Wars is in another league. It’s understandable that the franchise known for pulling off one of the greatest shock twists in movie history wants to keep plotlines on the down low, but by goodness it makes it hard to write about them.

So here’s what we know about Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Rey goes to Luke Skywalker to seek Jedi training while Finn, Poe Dameron and General Leia’s Resistance continues to fight against the First Order, led by Kylo Ren, General Hux, Captain Phasma and the mysterious Supreme Leader Snoke. So, basically, exactly where The Force Awakens left off.

There are hints and suggestions at where the story may go. We know that Finn and new character Rose end up at a giant casino, and we know that Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern have joined the cast. But other than that, everything is tightly under wraps. And, as far as del Toro is concerned, that’s exactly how it should be: “The fans want that wrapping paper around that Christmas gift,” he says. “Don’t give it to them without the paper. They don’t want to see it when they walk in the room. They don’t want to know.”

For Kelly Marie Tran, a newcomer to both Star Wars and movies in general, who plays Rose, her casting in The Last Jedi came with mind-boggling levels of secrecy. She wasn’t even allowed to tell her family that she’d got the part, or even that she was filming in London, in case they put two and two together. “I told everyone… I was doing a small indie movie in Canada. I would send pictures of Toronto that I got from Google to my friends saying ‘this is where I am!’. It was a weird time.”

Security was similarly tight on set. “Everyone is in these tinted-window cars, transported from one part of the set to another,” Tran explains. “And you’re wearing these like black robes. They’re like secrecy robes, so no one can tell who you are. It’s insane the amount of security there is.”

Meet the new nanny.

You stared up from the slip of paper that you held in your hand, an address scribbled on it. This was it. This was the building that your newest employer resided in. You took a deep breath before pushing into the buildings revolving door.

Upon entering you noticed a security guard at a desk a few feet away. Whoever had hired you sure lived in a nice place to warrant security in the building. The man gave you a slight smile, “Can I help you ma’am?”

You nodded, “Yes please. I’m here for Kim Namjoon. He lives in apartment 441.”

The man grabbed a clipboard, flipping through a couple pages. “Could you tell me your name?”

“Y/FN/LN.”

“Ah, yes. Miss Y/LN.” He put down the clipboard as his smile became a little more sincere. “You’re the new nanny to little miss Jangmi I hear. She’s a good girl, I can’t imagine she will give you much trouble. It’s her father you’ll wanna watch out for.”

She’s An Angel, My Only Angel (Harry Styles One Shot)

Anonymous said:

Can you please write an imagine where the reader is Harry’s best friend and she goes on vacation with Harry’s family and then H gets so touchy and protective with her and Gemma can’t stop teasing them telling that they’re something else and maybe H just kiss her and confesses that he’s in love with her (?)

I’ve decided to do abit of something on the side to kinda take a break from writing RMB, but don’t worry I am posting the new chapter on Friday! But this one stood out to me from all the requests so I’ve decided to write this one! I am writing in Y/N since you didn’t give a name, but I hope you enjoy this piece! -K

Y/N’s POV

“C’mon Y/N you have to get over him at some point, you cant just sit here and sulk forever” Gemma blurted out when I was sitting on the couch on my phone. Looking at old pictures of me and Daniel. Me and my ex boyfriend Daniel were dating for 3 years. I thought I was in love. But I feel like, well now I know that he wasn’t in love with me, would you cheat on someone you love? After I broke up with him I knew I was doing the right thing. But something inside of me thought that I could have gave him another chance. But maybe I didn’t want to. Confusion set within me and I just didn’t know how to deal with it. From we broke up a few weeks ago, I had just been sitting around the house, not really motivating myself to do anything, apart from working, which I’ve had to call in sick because I just couldn’t work the best of my ability with him stuck in my head. But Gemma, of course, has been trying to get me to move on, which in my own head I don’t really wanna do yet, I just don’t feel ready. “I’m not sulking Gem, I’m just, I don’t know, not in the best of moods today” “Y/N your never in the best of moods recently” She came walking over to join me on the sofa, and she just stared at me, with sadness in her eyes. “Just talk to me and tell me how you feel, you haven’t been talking about it which is bad for you, you need to talk about it” I sighed and looked down at my phone, my screensaver, a picture of us when it was a lot simpler and I was happy. “I’m fine” “Y/N” She responded with a sigh and placed her hand on my thigh. If I looked up at her I knew that I was going to cry, but I had to be strong. We have been friends for a couple of years and has she not once seen me cry. “I just miss him, that’s all. I don’t know, it just feels like I’m alone, and I cant move on from it. But I know I have to” My lip started to quiver, I knew I didn’t have the strength to hold it all in, but I knew I would feel better knowing that Gemma knows how I really feel about it. “Hey, listen, your only human, you cant keep it together every minute of everyday, you’ve been hurt by some prick. Just let it out, its only normal. He was the love of your life, and that’s hard to come by. But I know that deep down you didn’t want to let him go. But I think you were so comfortable in that relationship that I think you didn’t want to breakup with him because you were scared of feeling isolated. I get that, but you shouldn’t stay with someone just to feel like you have someone. You’ve got me, Harry, Mum, Dad, and all of your friends, you don’t need him. Especially if he is being a pure knob end and cheating on you” I looked up at Gemma’s face and seeing her expression, knowing that what she was saying was one hundred percent accurate. “Yeah I guess your right”

It’s Only Logical - Chapter One

Pairings: Logicality/Prinxiety

Warnings: Swearing, implied sexuality

Patton didn’t exactly know what he expected when he walked into the florist shop, but this definitely wasn’t it. The man who was presently looking at him with an impassive expression was…hot. Like, really hot. He was tall and slim, with hazel eyes peering curiously at him from behind black glasses and hair that had that effortlessly mussed look that either took five minutes or an hour. Well, if he didn’t get the job, he was definitely getting his number. Patton blinked twice before mentally slapping himself. He was here for a job, not a date!

“Yes, I am hiring. I need someone to assist with customer service, handle the cash register and take phone orders. If the correct candidate proved capable, I might consider allowing them to assist me with arrangements, propagation and landscape design. I presently have a six-man crew to assist with the landscaping arm of my business, but I am handling the shop and greenhouse alone. Do you have any experience?”

hi! i really liked your meta on the recent chapter and i wanted to know your opinion on why levi chose armin instead of erwin? im not trying to start drama but i just keep thinking about what flock said on chapter 90 and i dont know how i feel about it still. what are your thoughts on the subject??

Ahh. I understand, anon. I’ve given my thoughts on this before but, not since the original spoilers came out. After rereading the entire arc, I definitely have a few things to add. So, get comfy because this answer will be a really long one, and also best read on a computer because this will contain a lot of images.

DISCLAIMER:

This is my personal opinion. In no way am I stating what I say here is entirely canon or completely accurate. if you disagree with my opinion, that’s perfectly fine! Everyone has a different point of view, but if you are going to send me messages trying to argue point of views with me, tell me I’m wrong, or send me hate messages; do us both a favor and please just don’t even bother.

Let me start this out by saying that I’m positive a lot of people will not agree or even like my opinion on this but, I will be completely honest in my statements on the matter.

Flocke’s little speech made a lot of sense to me. Especially when it comes to Erwin but, it also pissed me off for a couple of reasons, and no, not because of his tone. It’s because of his ignorance. However, I am fully aware that I, as a reader of the story, get a first hand view of everything that happens. Flocke is a new recruit who was, up until recently, completely unaware of a lot that has gone on with the Survey Corps.

Regardless though, he still slightly pissed me off and you asked so therefor, I will answer lol. The first thing I want to touch on is how he complains about being a coward who didn’t understand the dangers of the role he was playing in the Wall Maria reclaiming mission because people weren’t honest with him.

BRUH…

For seventy years it has been no secret that at least 60% of all Survey Corps soldiers die on missions. Erwin point blank stated this when the 104th took to their ranks during his little joining speech. The dangers of fighting titans wasn’t something anyone tried to hide or keep tucked away in the hopes that soldiers would ignorantly join their ranks, and I doubt VERY highly that the dangers of the BIGGEST MISSION THE SURVEY CORPS HAD EVER PLANNED TO ATTEMPT was some massive smoke screen.

This dude knew his chances of survival were slim, and he also knew that his chances of having to sacrifice his life was very, very high. Especially since he originally refused to join to SC in the first place! Truthfully, this part right here just read off as someone who joined their ranks in the hopes of gaining some glory to me, and that made me salty.

I did agree highly with his last question though. They all have every right to know how much their sacrifice is worth. I had this feeling deep in my gut the first time I saw the female titan arc. No one knew the dangers they were actually being put in, save for the veteran soldiers in the legion. Granted, it’s entirely understandable as to why but, at the same time, hundreds were lost without knowing why. That was a sad, and unfair thought, and a move I didn’t entirely agree with. So, I can understand Flocke’s viewpoint here. However, as I stated above, IT WAS NO SECRET PEOPLE DIED ON MISSIONS.

Which leads me to the second and final reason his speech pissed me off:

That statement right there made me want to strangle this dude because he just outright undermined Levi to a severe degree. Not just Levi but, his bond with Erwin as well. As if Erwin wasn’t important to Levi too. Like Levi didn’t threaten to break this mans legs to try and keep him alive. Plus, he undermined how hard it was for Levi to ultimately make the choice he made. He shat on all of that in one sentence, and to make it worse, he called the choice an irrational one when he point blank states just one panel above this that he doesn’t know Armin well at all.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF IT’S AN IRRATIONAL CHOICE IF YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW THE PERSON YOU’RE BITCHING ABOUT?!

Ugh, anywayssssss, let me lower my salt intake here and get to the point.

I understand why people would question Armin’s survival over Erwin’s. I get it. Erwin was The Fucking MAN™ . He got shit done. Changed things in the walls for the better. He was the man with a plan and someone who sacrificed everything he had to learn the truth of the world. This leads me to why I think Levi ended up ultimately choosing Armin.

Let me start off with this panel here and then work my way up.

Some of Kenny’s parting words to Levi. These words played a massive factor in Levi’s final decision.

Erwin’s main goal, his dream, was to learn the truth of the world. He wanted to know what was beyond the walls and where the titans came from, and he wanted to learn all of this for the sake of his father. His goal was a worthy one and I am sad that he did not get to see it through but, his dream would have ended in Shiganshina one way or another. Whether he died, or whether he saw the basement; that was as far as his dream reached as far as Levi was aware at the time. [

Then we have Armin.

Armin’s dreams would start outside of the walls. They stretched far beyond one end goal and one thing to fight for, and his dreams were ones he wanted to share with close friends. Much like how Levi had a dream he wished to share with his close friends back in the day too. Armin wanted to see the world. To explore and learn everything their was to know about life and land outside of their walled prison. This was Armin’s reason for becoming a Scout.

So here we have two different people with different goals. Both of which Levi cares about and doesn’t want to see die. Both could help humanity. Both were brilliant and extremely intelligent. So, why Armin and not the seasoned commander?

Levi’s last words to Erwin are for him to let that dream go and to trust him to carry it out instead. I’m sure that Erwin was full aware that Levi had every intention of saving him if it was at all possible but, even knowing the risk towards his own life; Erwin accepted Levi’s order’s full on and with a relieved smile. Thankful to not have to burden himself under the guilt of wanting to abandon his post as Commander simply to learn the truth. For no longer having the chance to consider betraying all of those that were lost for a selfish goal.

In the end, Erwin was absolutely selfless. and rid of the desire plaguing his heart. He was at peace with the position he was in and chose to ride with his men into the fray. All because Levi took the burden of their lives onto his own shoulders - something he never does - and because he trusted Levi to succeed.

So, after this is said and done, we are left with Levi having to make a choice and duking it out with Eren and Mikasa on a rooftop for who will get the serum. Levi seems entirely hell bent on saving Erwin but, I believe what shook his firm resolve was this moment right here:

Ironic that Flocke is so quick to shit talk Levi’s choice when his comment right here is most likely one of the reasons Levi ended up choosing Armin.

Levi’s expression says a million different things in this one panel. The idea of reviving Erwin as a titan, to still lead and sacrifice people for a goal that Levi isn’t even sure exists at all breaks his determination. As far as he could see, Erwin just wanted to learn the truth. What Erwin would do after that was a mystery, even to Erwin himself. So, would it have been fair, after choosing to take his burden from him, to bring him back into the hell they scrounged in? All so he could continue to live as a “demon” even after achieving what he set out to accomplish?

Levi still seemed to think so to some degree. Though, his intensity on the subject wanes just a bit after Flocke’s comment here, and a lot more after what Eren had to say:

Eren speaks of the dreams Armin lives and fights for. The very same dreams Levi had overheard the young boy ranting and glowing about the night before. Armin had something left to fight for, Eren was sure of it. Levi was too because he saw it for himself.

Would Erwin have something left to live and fight for once he cleared his goal? Once he saw what was inside that basement and finally learned the truth?

Would he have something to be drunk on to keep him going?

Would he make Erwin remain a slave to his inner demons in the hopes that he could continue on torturing himself?

The answer was no. In the end, Levi chose to let Erwin have his peace. Just like Kenny chose to finally lay down his desires and trust them to Levi for the sake of peace with a smile, Erwin did exactly the same and thanked Levi for doing so. Instead of betraying that trust, and possibly breaking his friend in the process; Levi let the “Demon Commander” rest, and gave the boy with so many dreams left to live and fight for a chance at making his dreams a reality. Levi made his choice out of care, experience, and what knowledge he had. Just like he always does. At least that is my opinion on that matter.

Thank you for the ask, anon. I hope this answer is satisfactory for you. I apologize for the length and the lack of a Read More but, for whatever reason, that feature isn’t working on my laptop right now TT_TT

Bad Match Pt. 6

Series Summary: Bucky and the Reader are set up on a date, but things don’t go as well as expected.

Pairing: Bucky X Reader

Word Count: 3.2k+

Warnings: angst, swearing, slow burn, some fluff.

A/N: Here it is! I can’t believe the amazing reception for part. 5. Thank you so much, I wish I could write faster for you guys! I see this chapter more as a linking part for what’s to come! Excuse any mistakes and nonsenses please! Feedback? I live for it!

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8

While he was dragging the towel over his body to dry himself from the recently taken shower, Bucky realized that nightmares hadn’t visited him that night. It probably had a lot to do with the fact that he almost hadn’t slept at all, his mind invaded with thoughts…about Y/N. He questioned himself if she would come to him again if he had another nightmare…

He couldn’t stop the urge to try and make things better with her. Last night, he had listened in her voice how much he had been hurting her, ever since they first met, and that just didn’t work well in his head. He had to fix it. But how?

Olicity Fic Rec (Part 1)

Hey everybody! I have been wanting to do a fic rec for a while, but I haven’t been able to find the time to do it. Luckily now that school and finals are over, I finally can! I kinda tried to organize this fic rec by categories and stuff and I got really carried away lol, but I hope you enjoy!

SOME OF MY FAVORITE FICS (Not necessarily recent fics, just fics I LOVE (not all of my favorites bc we’d be here for days), and for the recent fics that are also my favorites, I put them in the recent section):

MULTI-CHAPTER:

Sportsmanlike Conduct by @mogirl97: Overall one of my favorite sports AU’s! It has both fluff and angst, and I literally couldn’t stop reading it! I originally read it when it first came out, and each update made me so happy! Not to mention, hockey is literally my favorite sport (and I may or may not be a Flyers super fan) so this fic was especially fun to read! It all begins in college, when Felicity meets Oliver Queen, a handsome and talented hockey player! They hit it off immediately, and their relationship is so good, but of course, things get in the way! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Such an amazing fic!!

Times Like These by @anthfan: I REREAD THIS EVERY SINGLE NIGHT I’M NOT EVEN KIDDING (i literally just re-read it and finished it before I started making this post)! If you have free time, go read this fic, and if you don’t have free time, drop what you’re doing, make time, and go read this fic! This fic is so good, and all of Oliver and Felicity’s interactions are so well done. I actually only came across this story a few months ago, and I am so mad I didn’t find it sooner, but now that I have read it, I can’t stop reading it over and over! It begins with Felicity’s stalker and cousin, Nate, coming back into her life, and of course, Oliver and Dig doing everything they can to protect her. SO GOOD. SO SO SO SO GOOD. I’m not gonna lie, this fic made me cry, and I rarely ever cry, so that should tell you how AMAZING this fic is!

The Firebird by @supersillyanddorky06: Am I gonna rec every single one of Matty’s fics? Yes. And the Firebird is NO EXCEPTION! This fic was recently finished (ending was super amazing) and if you’re looking for an amazing, riveting fic to read, go READ IT RIGHT NOW! I literally would not put this fic down when I first read it, and everytime I go back and re-read it, I read it from start to finish because its SO GOOD(lol the amount of HW i’ve been able to complete has gone way down since I started reading matty’s fics). This fic is an Al-Sahim story, but has Oliver in Felicity’s house every night, not saying a word, and watching Tv with her, after Felicity finds Oliver about to kill someone one night. Basically, Oliver starts seeking Felicity after that night, and you’ll have to see what happens! Honestly tho, I don’t know how to describe this fic (it’s too amazing to put into words), so just go READ IT!

Forever is Composed of Nows by @dust2dust34 and @so-caffeinated: I’m pretty sure everyone has read this fic, but that’s because it’s only the best thing to ever exist! I read this fic a while ago, but lost it, and when I found it again, not only was it completed, but there was a SEQUEL and I SCREAMED OUT LOUD BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY! Such a good fic, and as a person who doesn’t even like children, I fell in love with Ellie Queen (believe me that is saying a lot, like i hate kids, but this story made me absolutely love Ellie) ! This fic has so much amazing fluff, and good angst, and just a wonderful wonderful plot. I love having the Queen fam in it, and every single chapter is just so good. It begins with Ellie Queen, Oliver and Felicity’s daughter, being brought into the past to escape Zoom, when Felicity and Oliver are not together, and haven’t even accepted their feelings for each other. SO GOOD. Such a great idea for a fic, that was made into a beautiful story, and I love it so much!

With our Backs to the Wall (Darkness will Fall) by @theirhappystory: ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES LIKE I CAN’T EXPLAIN GUYS ITS SO SO GOOD!! I am the biggest sucker for Army AU’s and age differences and this fic touches upon both of those and does it so well. Every single moment in this fic I absolutely love, and I really can’t put into words how good it is. You have to read it. You just have to. It starts with Oliver returning from war, coming back to a home with Felicity, who is looking much different and more mature then when he lost saw her. Oliver struggles with keeping his feelings and thoughts in check, and it is GLORIOUS! GO READ IT! I LOVE THIS FIC SO SO SO MUCH!

Or Forever Hold Your Peace by @katanabaabe: Such an incredibly angsty and beautiful fic, that you won’t be able to put down! I came across this fic a long time ago, and I am still just as obsessed with it now as I was then. I loved how this story was done, and I loved the way that Oliver and Felicity’s relationship plays out. I LOVE ANGST, and this fic had such well done angst it was impossible to put down. It begins with Oliver comforting Felicity after she is very upset over what happened with her fiancé, Ray Palmer, and things escalate. Such a good fic!

Where There’s Smoak There’s Fire by FelOllie @littlered-sourwolf: THIS IS SUCH AN AMAZING FIC! I have re read this story countless times, and I think it gets better each time. I love, love, love, the way Felicity and Oliver’s friendship plays out, with tons of sexual tension and teasing, and the angst (oh my god the angst is so good guys) all just is written together so beautifully you have to go read it! It begins with Oliver and Felicity, five years after the count took her, being the best of friends. I don’t want to spoil too much, but all I can say is READ IT because you will not regret it! Amazing amazing story!

OKAY I PUT THINGS AFTER THE CUT BECAUSE AT THIS POINT IT WAS GETTING REALLY LONG:

the wedding planners (一) | jjk

↳ alternative title: ‘'til death do us part’? i’d rather die than be with you’

[DISCONTINUED - please see my explanation here]

summary: you do a lot for your best friend. a lot. so much so, that you are willingly spending months working with Asshole Supreme, Number One Greaser, Pretentiously Cocky Jeon Jungkook just for the sake of his wedding, and we all know how that’s going to work out (not very well).

{enemies to lovers!au}

pairing: jungkook x female reader (and some side yoonseok)
word count: 6k
genre: fluff, smut, angst (soon to come!)
warnings: descriptive smut and lots of swearing
a/n: here it is! this is my first series on this blog so forgive me if the spacing of the chapters is a little… rough, but i promise to update as often as i can! i’m in love with the enemies-to-lovers au so i’m so pumped to be releasing one of my own! enjoy! (in case u were wondering what that line is in parentheses, it’s just the number 1 in mandarin)

The first time you met Jeon Jungkook was at Hoseok’s birthday party. The memory will forever be engraved in your brain, seeing Jeon Jungkook cruise on over to you after being directed towards you by Yoongi himself, swirling a drink in his hand and plastering the greasiest smile he could onto his face. Yoongi must have supposed that if he and Hoseok got along so well, then there would be no reason why you and Jungkook wouldn’t. But he was wrong, because there were very many reasons why. A majority of them centered around the fact that Jeon Jungkook was just absolutely, one hundred percent full of himself, and there’s nothing worse than a man with an ego.

So, in short, rather than hitting it off, the both of you just ended up wanting to hit each other, and that’s never a good sign.

Three years later, nothing much has changed, only that Hoseok and Yoongi are now engaged instead of just almost-boyfriends, and you and Jungkook have gone from being just bothersome to each other to mutual loathing, so that’s just great.

A Kaneki/Touka parallel to Guts/Casca’s descent into Hell from Berserk?

Okay so, I actually got a few questions on the subject and I didn’t see anyone making a post about it (please tell me if someone actually did), so I might as well write one quickly. Apologies in advance for those I might slightly spoil about Berserk.

Death flag. I think that’s one of the words I saw the most everywhere that I looked today and frankly, even though I’m generally not bothering so much with death flags, I kind of have to admit that I got worried after reading this chapter because, well, it’s TG. And Ishida-sensei. So we’re used to crazy and violent things happening, especially right after something sweet occured.

But what’s the link with Berserk?

Well, first of all, Sensei made several references to Berserk before, mainly through Amon’s character (please see the following posts: [x] [x]), that were explicit enough to think that he might be a fan of the series.

Second thing, for those who are not familiar with it, Berserk is the story of Guts, a mercenary, who was once sacrificed by his close “friend” so that the latter could be reborn as a very powerful demon entity. Obviously that kind of broke their friendship, especially since the other dude didn’t just try to sacrifice Guts, but also cursed and heavily abused Casca, Guts’ lover, leaving her with a big trauma towards men as well as a regression into insanity.

So anyway (please read Berserk), when it comes to the link between that and :Re ch125, it turns out that a little before Guts and Casca went through absolute hell, they had the opportunity to share a very sweet and intimate moment, exactly like it happened between Touka and Kaneki for this week’s chapter…

…A moment that resulted of Guts and Casca honestly talking for the first time in a while and finally admitting to their feelings for each other, so again, a little like it happened between Kaneki and Touka ever since ch122.
EDIT: @lilylunac also saw the similarities between the two scenes! :)

Now obviously TG =/= Berserk, Kaneki =/= Guts, Ishida =/= Miura, but the two sensei still have this shared enjoyment that is to constantly inflict pain to their main character as they make them go through many hardships and, as I was saying above, the fact that so many TG readers are now bracing themselves for something terrible to happen, because ch125 was really sweet and positive in comparison to a lot of shit that Kaneki (and Touka) went through, makes me think that we learnt our lesson long ago.

So yes, as it happens, daily happiness never really lasts for long in TG, especially not when Kaneki still has a lot of personal issues to sort out and a lot of self-reflection to do (and especially not when the current main villain is aiming to fly the TG plane into an ocean of blood), but guess what, it’s exactly the same for Berserk, happiness never lasts long for Guts either.

So, it is very probable that shit will go down soon in TG, if just because we could have an arc paralleling the Anteiku raid arc next, as many fans already explained and as Juuzou also implied…

…which would make the new relationship between Kaneki & Touka (and the sweet chapter of this weekend) the last positive moment to behold (both for us fans and for Kaneki) before Kaneki, Touka and the rest of Kaneki’s side might be separated and hurt/injured by Furuta’s side.

To be honest, I have no idea where TG will start again next week, but here’s what I understand from the recent developments:

  • Furuta has Kanou and Kanou’s future dead army
  • Furuta has the Oggai
  • Furuta has V on his side (as far as we know)
  • Furuta has a good part of the CCG still ready to obey his command
  • Furuta is loved by most of the public opinion in TG (those fanclubs :/)
  • The Clowns might fight for Furuta’s side again (unsure)
  • A parallel to the Anteiku raid arc would mean a lot of blood and possible deaths
  • Furuta wants to watch the world burn and for Kaneki to die

Meanwhile Kaneki…

  • has issues to solve and for now doesn’t make for a good leading figure as the OEK
  • has less manpower than Furuta and way less deadly weapons (as far as we know)
  • is supposedly dead for a good part of the world, which means he can’t really gain new allies amongst ghouls
  • might be joined by the Clowns at some point (unsure)
  • might have CCG deserters (Juuzou, Urie and co) joining him (unsure again)
  • also Mutsuki is a bit insane and has a real grudge against Touka, which means they’ll face off again, definitely

TL;DR Kaneki doesn’t have the odds in his favor, for now at least, especially since he doesn’t really appear to have a good plan, which is why an arc similar to the Anteiku raid one definitely sounds like bad news and a lot of pain.

To be honest, I don’t know if Sensei really decided to include explicit lovemaking between Kaneki and Touka before shit might really go down as a parallel to Berserk and Guts/Casca, or if he found that the idea of a young love being tried by all sorts of madness was simply interesting, but… there is one more possible parallel that made me think of Gutsca, as I read the new :Re chapter.

See, it’s a spoiler (sorry :/) but Guts and Casca actually conceived a child during that one moment of bliss that they shared, a child that unfortunately got cursed to have a really sad fate, and it just so happens that the cover of :Re ch122…

… triggered many theories about Touka possibly becoming pregnant, with the pregnancy unfortunately not going and ending very well (please read these posts [x] [x]).

Personally, I don’t really have much of an opinion about a possible pregnancy, if just because I don’t know if Kaneki can even reproduce in the first place (that is a very debated question within the fandom), but I have to admit that the pregnancy idea crossed my mind during ch125 more than it did with ch122 because…

So in conclusion, I can’t be certain that Sensei was influenced by Berserk when he decided to write ch125, but I suppose that it could be a possibility considering that he added references to Berserk before. I guess it might depend on what happened next in :Re and on if Touka actually becomes pregnant or not. Also please note that this is a possible parallel of situation, not a parallel of dynamics or of characters.

I hope this post was informative for the few people who were interested by the subject. Feel free to ask if anything is unclear!

“…Now I can tell by your faces that you’re all ready to get the hell out of here. I know, I know…it’s a Friday…and being indoors is the last thing you guys want. But before you leave, I just want to discuss your recent papers. I must say I was fairly disappointed in most of them…”

Professor Lincoln paced back and forth in front of the lecture hall, his piercing blue eyes staring down his students. “When discussing historic analysis, I don’t expect you to just give me the facts. I want more depth in these essays…make connections to our world today, and to previous things that have already happened. I know from our in-class discussions you are smarter than what you sound like on paper. With that in mind, I will now formally dismiss the class. Please, think about what I’ve said, and enjoy your weekend!”

Chapter 6

║ch1║ ║ch2║ ║ch3║║ch4║║ch5║

Mystic Messenger High School AU

Word Count: 1,312

~Yep, that’s right. Another chapter. I told you I’d write more! Hm? Didn’t believe me? Well…I guess I don’t blame you. It’s been forever, after all. Haha. Anyway, I hope that you guys enjoy. I think from here on out I can go one of two ways. I can keep the ending how I originally planned…OR I can kinda experiment a bit….with something I’ve been testing recently. I haven’t quite decided yet. Regardless, stay tuned! I really hope you guys like this chapter^^

Your hands grasped the fabric of the hoodie as you smiled. Saeyoung took the seat in front of you, the moonlight reflecting off of his glasses.

“It’s a beautiful night,” you finally spoke up in an effort to break the silence.

“Ya,” he smiled momentarily before turning back to the sky, “these are some of my favorite nights. You can really see the stars.”

Maybe it was the alcohol in your system that had you feeling so bold, or the feeling of happiness flowing through you? You couldn’t remember the last time you had a night as fun as this. Being away from home, surrounded by people who all seemed to be having a good time, really filled you with a strange sense of warmth and comfort. And of course…being around people you had started to feel close to. People like Saeran…and Saeyoung…

“Do you like Astronomy?” you took another sip of your wine, not wanting to slow down despite that dizzy feeling.

“Mmhm,” he nodded, “always have. When we were younger…well, Saeran and I could never afford telescopes. So, we would use the rolls from paper towels and pretend that it helped us see closer. We’d look out of our bedroom window and try to identify the constellations.”

He seemed to look away with this sudden admission, was he blushing? It was hard to imagine him and Saeran as small children, peering out of their windows in hopes of a glimpse of something greater.

“So, you know a lot of constellations, then?” you asked.

“Of course,” he chuckled lightly.

He urged you to the side of the yacht, his hand lightly pressing at your back to guide you. For some reason your heart was racing at his touch. This was different than working with him at the ice cream shop. His long arm pointed up to a series of stars above you.

“See that? It’s Ursa Major,” he says proudly.

You’re extremely aware of how close he has gotten to you. For the rest of the night, despite the noise and uproar of the party behind you, you spend the majority of the evening quietly looking at the sky between Saeyoung’s refills of your glass. You just listen to him talk as he points out various things. It’s pretty obvious that he likes to show off his knowledge and this makes your smile beam for him. It reminded you of Saeran when he talked about art. They were both passionate in their own way. What a pair they made…Before you knew it, you were starting to teeter backwards on your heels.

“Woah, there!” Saeyoung grabbed you to hold you steady, “maybe we should sit down?”

“I’m sorry, I guess I’ve had a little more than I anticipated,” you say as he helps you into your seat again, “hey! I wanted to ask you though…”

“Hm? What about?”

It felt like the right time of the night to bring it up. You clumsily set your glass down and looked at him as you spoke.

“Is Yoosung always so careless like that?” you asked.

“Says the girl who almost just fell on her ass, drunk,” he let out a deep laugh.

“I’m serious!” you tried to be mad but ended up laughing along with him, he was right…after all.

“For real, though…” he got more serious, “he’s been a little more reckless lately.”

You leaned in a bit…eager to hear more out of concern. Saeyoung let out a sigh, pushing up his glasses onto the bridge of his nose as he thought about what to say next.

“He was really close to his cousin and…she passed away not too long ago,” he continues, “Yoosung has been a bit of a mess ever since. Saeran and I take turns kinda watching over him. But, the old Yoosung would have never acted like he did tonight,” Saeyoung looked away with a hint of sadness in his eyes. “He’ll go back to his old self one day though. I know it. He just needs to get passed this,” he said brightly.

“He mentioned something like that to me the other day,” you replied, “not about his cousin though…that’s so sad. Anyway, it’s why I asked. I’m sorry if it seemed like I was prying.”

“Nah, don’t worry,” he waved it off like it wasn’t a big deal, “anyway, we know how to deal with him. So don’t worry, okay?” he smiled.

You nodded back and continued talking about work and your various school projects you both had coming up. It was really nice to get to know him better, and to know more about Yoosung, too. You never would have guessed.

Picking up your wine glass and bringing it to your lips, you made an effort to drink what was left in the glass.

“Okay…I think that’s enough,” Saeyoung laughed.

“What? Why?” you asked as he pulled the stemware out of your hand.

“Because half of that sip ended up on your shirt,” he replied while taking a photo with his phone.

He was right. Shit. As you looked down you saw a bright red stain on your shirt. Wiping your face in embarrassment you tried to fight him for his phone.

“Erase it!” you yelled as your hands grabbed at his cell.

No matter how hard you tried, he was beating you with ease. Your every move was batted away with one of his hands, all the while he had a shit-eating grin on his face, enjoying every second.

“I’ll delete it if you let me take you home. It’s a school night and it’s already pretty late.”

All you could muster was a nod.

“Are…you okay to drive?” you asked.

“I haven’t had anything but water and some soda,” he replied.

Helping you to the car, he was careful not to drive too fast.

“If you throw up in here, V is going to kill me,” Saeyoung nudged you.

“I’m not THAT drunk,” you slapped his hand away, “just sleepy…”

Saeyoung watched you nod off in the passengers seat. The street lights flashed over your face rhythmically. Every now and again he would glance over, reveling in your soft features and peaceful disposition.

He hadn’t even opened the passengers side door from the curb when he heard your parents arguing inside. Their shouts were clear as if they were on the lawn. His heart was stuck in his throat. He knew all too well what it felt like to live in a household like this. His eyes peered down with sadness as you slept.

“Hey…” he tried to wake you up,” your parents sound like they’re fighting?”

“What else is new,” you said in your sleep.

‘Hah, sarcastic as ever’, he thought.

He couldn’t let you go home like this. Not with them arguing…And Saeran’s room would be free since he was staying with Yoosung…

He knew his mom would be passed out by now, so she wouldn’t even notice.

Getting back in the car he continued a bit further until he reached his house. Hopefully you wouldn’t freak too much when you woke up.

“Come on,” he encouraged you to get out of the car, “do you mind staying in Saeran’s room for the night?”

You shook your head ‘no’ and he helped you inside while carrying your bag. Luckily, Saeran’s room was pretty clean. He pulled the blanket up over you after you lay in bed.

“Thank you…I’m going to bed now,” you spoke in a soft voice.

He couldn’t help but caress your hair back a bit as you sighed in your sleep. He was used to taking care of Saeran. And now, even Yoosung…but this was different. He pulled his hand back, remembering Saeran’s feelings for you.

Damn it,” his hand balled into a fist.

Why did it have to be this way.

Silence took over the lobby while Richie and Eddie stared at one another, the tension palpable. Years and years of painful silence was abruptly broken.

Eddie wondered if Richie’s heart was racing just as fast as his was.

He was struggling to organize his thoughts in that moment, unable to truly process his ex-boyfriend and how he felt in that moment.

Sure, he had gotten a glimpse of Richie a few times on TV or somewhere on social media since the break up, but it was something he would quickly change channels away from or exit out of. He had avoided studying him, knowing that the ache he had spent over a year trying to repress would immediately return as a sharp pain.

That sharp pain that he was trying to avoid after all of those years finally made its return. Seeing Richie brought back a rush of emotions that he wasn’t mentally prepared to handle.

His breathing speeding up ever so slightly had Eddie instinctively reaching for his back pocket, until he remembered that he didn’t have an inhaler anymore.

It was Richie’s disappearance that made the use of the inhaler needed, and it took him months to stop needing it afterwards.

‘You don’t need it. You don’t need it.’ He chanted in his mind to calm down.

As everything that they’d been through flashed across his mind, a glare started to form on Eddie’s face, his arms crossing over his chest defiantly. At first, he wasn’t sure which emotion would rise to the surface, but it was clear that anger was making its appearance.

“No hi, Eddie?” Richie’s resonant voice echoed inside of his head, making Eddie upset that it still made his heart skip a beat to hear.

Kaneki Ken, a butterfly story and the latest wheel of fortune

When I first starting reading Tokyo Ghoul (almost 6 years ago lol), there were 2 characters I thoughts were associated with “Butterflies” : Touka and Hinami.

Why Touka: the 1st butterfly in the series is seen with Touka. Later in TG:re calendar, she is depicted as a moth.

Why Hinami: Hina’s introduction as a Chimera with kagunes shaped like butterfly wings. Plus, the child became a strong link between Ken and Touka, with them almost co-parenting the girl. She also helped in proving to Kaneki that not all ghouls are monsters but can be victims too. The young girl also showed to Touka that hatred and revenge weren’t the only answers to loss.

However, later arcs in TG:re forced me to give up on that theory and see the larger picture. Before turning into a centipede, Kaneki was on a journey to become a butterfly.

Hence why I never could finish the insects/arachnids/arthropods theory HERE regarding TG 2015 calendar (sorry).

Kaneki Ken, first steps in to a new world

The panel mentioned above, when taking into context, is in direct parallel to what was going on inside Anteiku in TG #09.

In this chapter, after Touka rescued Hide and Kaneki (yet again), Yoshimura is talking to the half-ghoul about him belonging to two worlds instead of none. The old man also spoke about his hope that, by staying at Anteiku and living this dual life, Ken would see for himself whether ghouls are nothing more the monsters they are depicted as. Queue to Mr.Butterfly slowly approaching a beaten up Touka before resting on her finger.

Interestingly, Chapter 9 is titled “Hatching” (coming out of one’s egg), possibly in reference to Kaneki facing the reality of being a ghoul, in addition to his journey as the “Goat’s Egg”. People don’t decide to be conceived/to be born: someone birth them while they’re passive in this situation, with only variables like hormones making it happen.

Some Butterfly Symbolic around the world and through time

Positive: young women’s availability for marriage; “you’ll receive money”; “a loved one will visit you soon”; love; conjugal bliss and joy, peace, harmony, life

Neutral: soul, mind, fire, reincarnation of dead soldiers, rebirth, transformation, change, transitory nature of happiness, circle of life.

Negative: soul of dead children, bad omen, death, spirit of the dead, sickness, warfare.

If Kaneki is symbolised as a Butterfly, then the panel in TG #09 is literally Ken tentatively approaching the ghoul world and getting to know his ghoul self.

After the chrysalid phase, the newly born butterfly enters a new world (it can fly now). From then on, a butterfly needs to find sustenance and a mate to pass on the genes like most animals (I say most because some animals such as jellyfishes, female Aphids and female Komodo Dragons, to name a few, can CLONE themselves when no mate is available).

By working at Anteiku, interacting with ghouls and even doves, Kaneki started to make his own opinion of this new world. It’s a grey environment rather than the dichotomic world of good (humans) versus evil (ghoul) he first thought of. The reality even made Kaneki break down yet again, after the murder of Mrs. Fueguchi.

Kaneki was slowly finding his bearing even if he still considered himself a monster and was slowly cutting himself from Hide (le sigh…).

Then, Yamori arrived and the butterfly had its wings clipped off repeatedly, chained to the floor, until pain and anger turned it into a centipede.

For some time, this new creature dwelled into the darkest part of the ghoul world. Chinese red-head centipedes lived in dark damp places and feed on whatever it can grab. Ironically enough, they are not really aggressive to other centipedes.

This period of Shironeki loneliness was the time when Ken was lost and didn’t even realise/accept that he was searching for home.

Kaneki chose to surround himself with people who wouldn’t go against his quest, however they would feel about it. Consciously or not, Ken also chose not to bring anyone linking him to the human world. Banjou & Co were from Aogiri, Hinami didn’t know about Hide and was an orphaned ghoul without much knowledge of the human world, Tsukiyama was ghoul who embraced their own predatory nature and appetite as an art with no concern for humans. There is no way Kaneki would have brought Nishiki (because Nishio knew Hide and was now part of Anteiku with a human lover) or Touka (who knew of Ken’s link to Hide and, as confirmed recently by Kaneki, because he wanted to protect her and her peaceful life).

We all know how well this ended for everyone…

In TG:re, Kaneki Ken was announced to come back as a butterfly. Ken, with his restored memories and his status as a lone / lost centipede still lingering.

In :RE #63, Shinigami!Ken is showed next Eto at the press conference where the writer trolled everyone by coming out as a ghoul. Right before that: a butterfly slightly similar to the one back in TG #09, is seen flying above/next to Touka.

Further in the story, on death’s door, Arima envisioned his younger self freeing a butterfly from his grasp. Most of the fandom agrees to see the butterfly as Kaneki Ken (or Sasaki Haise). To me, it also meant that Arima freed the creature that he had kept captive and/or protected : Kishou was the one who subdued Kaneki Ken back in V14; he helped in creating Sasaki Haise and the dreamworld (golden cage) the younger man lived into for a few years. Arima helped in rebooting the story of Butterfly!Ken by giving him a way to escape his physical prison (leaving Cochlea with the help of Squad Zero) and a goal to tempered Ken’s own wish to die (temporary Band-Aid known as “my final wish” trope aka Ken became the OEK to fulfill his Father and Mother’s last request).

RANDOM FACT: Interestingly, in Gnostic art, the angel of death is depicted crushing a butterfly underfoot, either because the butterfly symbolises Life or the Corrupted Flesh. Maybe Ishida used this as a reference when Arima, god of death, freeing Butterflyneki ?

Now that Kaneki had his wings back, the journey has :restarted.

A butterfly is flying around to search for subsistence and for a mate to keep the genes going. It’s searching for a flower.

Guess who has been depicted with flowers?….Yep, Kirishima Touka.

Apart from the numerous illustrations Ishida has bestowed to the fandom, one of the “in your face” panels appeared in TG:re 16 when Saiko and Shirazu saw Touka with a bouquet in her hands, strolling the hospital. The reason of her being at the hospital is still unknown, I hope Ishida will get back to that later.

(Yes, that’s Touka’s bra 😉 )

RANDOM FACT 2: Butterflies have six lets and they each have sensors on them that can tell just by landing on a flower what it tastes like. So now you know why my boi Kaneki was groping them titties like no tomorrow !  ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

A panel of Ishida “Did I stutter?!” Sui would be the colour page from TG:re 122.

Everything is there: Touka, death flag, flowers, le innuendo “Bloom me a flower of my own / Place your order, My only flower” (depending on the translation)…EVERYTHING !

In a way, B-fly Kaneki has found a flower to lean on.

For a butterfly, flowers are sustenance (nectar), home (some would stay around the same bunch of flowers, meet their mate and lay their eggs). Flowers can also be a butterfly’s last resting place. Indeed, since butterflies are short-living animals (less then a year if no hibernation), it’s not unusual for them to die around flowers since drinking is the only thing they do when they’re not looking for a mate, flying towards another flower, escaping a predator, etc.

On the other hand, most plants need insects like butterflies to help in the pollination. For many plants, no wind or animals => no pollination => NO FRUITS aka new life. It means death in the long run…

I don’t know if this means a potential Touken child. While no protection was present in RE125, Kaneki’s fertility as an artificial OEG has yet to be confirmed HOWEVER…

RANDOM FACT 3: Sodium as well as many other minerals is vital for the butterflies reproduction. With all the sweat and tears the couple got on Chapter #125, plus all the salt from some parts of the fandom…Touka might get pregnant with twins 😂 ! Ahem.

The current arc low key should be called :RE Touken Arc shows some of Kaneki and Touka’s mutual feelings and fears for the other. They are two very clumsy, insecure and fearful kids who cared a lot about each other, about their safety, wellbeing, happiness, stability, etc. Circumstances and their own short coming kept them apart for years up until now. In :RE 122, Touka confessed her feelings to Kaneki and my boi Ken was also completely exposed by Haise, sip sip.

The latest chapter, TG:re 125 titled X, went back with the butterfly parallels.

The first page is a resting butterfly seen through some window (?). One similar to all the butterflies in the series, showing some form of continuity.

The final panel shows Kaneki in his now infamous foetal position. Touka is watching over him as he sleeps, resting with his head on her lap.

Many fans have spotted the Tarot numbers 6 and/or 19 from the get-go so I won’t elaborate on them (why can I never see those numbers as quickly as they do, sheesh!). What kept my attention was the shape of the sheets around Kaneki.

They’re shaped like a wing !

>> me reaching towards the symbolism and beyond!!…but maybe not  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The circle seems to be closed, at last. The lost butterfly finally found its flower.

Now, will the flower bear fruits? Like butterflies, flowers don’t live long: they “die” once the pollination is successful and a fruit/seed on its way to be created.

Will Touka be Kaneki’s last resting place?

Only Ishida-sensei knows…

 /*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*

The Tarot number I did see was in the title: X, the Wheel of Fortune (10).

If I’ve got enough time and it’s not already done, I might post something on this:

A- Tarot Card X : the Wheel of Fortune (10) and the possible meanings for the chapter

B- The tarot card and its links to Touka, Kaneki and their relationship and the opposite combination (example: [X & II] and [II & X]) =>

1/ Wheel of Fortune and Touka, the High priestess

2/ Wheel of Fortune and Ken, the Hanged Man

3/ Wheel of Fortune and the Lovers aka Touken

4/ Wheel of Fortune and the SUN

What a time to be alive !

NOTE 21.05.2017: I double-checked the words for this post and I would say that Kaneki would be a MOTH rather than a Butterfly. I didn’t make the difference mostly because I didn’t realise that english speakers have very different words for these insects (in French, a moth = un papillon de nuit, while a butterfly = un papillon de jour…) Sorry…   Moths and Butterflies were lepidoterans formely separated into opposite sub-species ( Heterocera and Rhopalocera). Now the distinction is a little obsolete.

Still, in culture and through time, moths have been viewed as ugly and negative (in opposition to Butterflies). Many of the “negative symols” of Butterflies are also found for Moths, especially Death. Yay ! With the Reverse Tower of Doom, Reverse Sun of bittersweetness and a possible Wheel of Fortune…What kind of tragedy will befall onto Touka, Kaneki (and maybe their hypothetic unborn child) ?
