Normally I would be mad over them slighty changing the dynamics of this scene
But it’s not like they haven’t done it before,
(btw, I really got mad over this change, the subtleties it shows are as important as the way they’re presented!!)
for the sake of making some of those interactions more visible in that moment (Mikasa and Eren, Hange’s interest on Eren), or more playable in the next (the interactions between Armin and Jean, Levi and Hange). But this other change was totally innecessary
Despite the kind of development they were aiming for Armin (with him being in every moment very conscious of the sacrificies needed), which I think it was a wise intention, he’s still far away from stopping showing that deeply corcern about Eren when given the chance.
However, aside from that, Levi’s suddenly recovery, and the lack of explanation about what was going on with the other new recruits, I thought the rest was pretty nice.
- Mikasa stopping Annie.
- Eren’s inner monologue and his corcern about Annie repeatedly expressed.
- Annie’s flashback about his father!
- Erwin, Levi, Hange and Jean being themselves.
Wasn’t the animation really good, too?
I wanted it so badly to end with everybody discovering the Titans inside the wall, with a doomed face, but oh well.
Of course there were going to be changes that made this more… uh, mainstream?, but overall I think they maintained more things intact that in the previous instances.
