smashbox photo finish foundation primer

mitchy-fleur  asked:

Could you recommend me foundations primers that suitable for dry skin? Thank you! :)

Primers are often reserved and targeted towards those with oily, combination and acne prone skin with large pores and dry skin types often get forgotten about. Mattifying, oil free primers are great if you need your makeup to last all day or have oily skin, but on a day to day basis they can be a bit too much for dry skin. Overtime I’ve tried many primers, some bad, some good and some great. I’ve tried ones for every skin type under the sun and every skin condition/concern and as someone with dry skin myself here are some of my favourites.

I would love to hear about your makeup routine; I don't wear it myself so I find it fascinating to know what other people do! On a similar vein-- favorite scents? (I was thinking more perfume but if you'd rather talk about it in a general sense that's awesome too! ;)

oooooooOOOOHHHH. My makeup routine is,, ridiculous is a kind word. It changes a bit every day just based on the Look I’m going for. I want you to know that by asking this question you’ve unlocked an entire Thing lmao

Today, the products gracing my face are: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer, L’oreal Infallibale Pro-Matte Foundation, Tarte shape tape contour concealer, Coty airspun loose face powder, Hoola lite bronzer, Wet n Wild color icon blush in pearlescent pink, Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact in Rose, Becca shimmering skin perfector pressed in pearl, Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Original, Rimmel Stay Matte long lasting pressed powder, Urban Decay Naked Smokey Palette, Anastasia Beverley Hills Dipbrow Pomade in taupe, Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, Maybelline vivid matte liquid in nude flush, and Urban Decay All-Nighter makeup setting spray

As for scents!!!

For perfume: I haven’t really settled on a perfume yet, but I’m really big into using higher quality perfumes because they work better with your natural body chemistry - smelling different on everyone - and then maybe more of a body spray on my clothing to complement it. I like something a little spicier, and I’m really attached to lavender and bergamot for whatever reason. My recent combo has been fresh cannabis rose perfume - bergamot is one of the top notes in it, and it’s just very warm smelling and I really enjoy how it settles on me. I usually will add a spritz or two of bath & body works french lavender & honey body spray before I leave the house because I like to freshen up my clothing and it pairs nicely with the perfume.

For candles I love both lavender and cinnamon - spicier/autumn scents are my Life tbh. But occasionally I’ll find a different one I fall in love with - Bath and body works had that one tea candle for their international collection or whatever - I bought like ten of that one no lie.

Thank you for asking omg, it’s rare I get to go one about this sorta thing haha

What's the point of makeup primers??

This is a question I also get often…and a good one at that!  Most makeup primers contain silicone, which temporarily fills in pores and fine lines and bonds with your makeup so it lasts longer!  It also gives you a smoother finish!

Here are some great primers to try out!

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer: $32-$49

**Even comes in a smaller travel size for $16!

Revlon Beyond Natural Smoothing Primer: $12

L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base: $10

ATTN: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

PSA for anyone who uses makeup:

I’ve used Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation primer as my go-to foundation primer for a long while now. Recently I began to breakout horrible all over my chin and forehead, two areas where I usually never get any acne. I asked my mom what she suggested and she told me she had the same problem in the same places I had while she was wearing Smashbox’s Photo Finish primer.
Apparently the primer has SILICONE in it which had began to build up and irritate my skin, even though I exfoliate every night.
I’ve stopped using the primer in my everyday makeup routine and I’ve found that there’s already a dramatic difference in how my skin looks and feels.
I urge anyway who owns the Photo Finish primer to unscrew the top and look in the lid and (if you use it everyday or often) you’ll notice the build up of little pieces of gel from the silicone.

jamieeislame  asked:

My skin is very dry but when I apply liquid foundation it seems to make my skin look flakey what am I doing wrong?

Flaky skin never looks nice, especially when you can see it through your foundation. Skincare plays a large part into how your makeup looks so whilst it’s important to ensure you are using the correct techniques to apply your foundation it’s also essential that you are taking correct care of your skin.

Score a 100% complexion match quick and easy.

As the oiliest member on the Sephora editorial team, I was not exactly thrilled to learn my complexion would be featured in high-def on The Glossy. I get my T-zone slick from my mama—our whole family is so shiny we could probably guide home ships in the night with the light reflecting off our faces. Needless to say, my naturally greasy gleam isn’t going anywhere, and I was admittedly put off by the idea of getting it touched up in public. But after my Sephora Mini Makeover, I saw the light—and for once, it wasn’t bouncing off my mug. BECKY PEDERSON

Though I came in totally barefaced, the first step for every makeup application is to cleanse your skin. My kick-ass beauty expert, Claudiavel, used SEPHORA COLLECTION Express Cleansing Wipes to take off the day’s gunk. Next, Claudiavel sprayed me with Caudalie Grape Water, a toner designed to soothe your skin. This relaxing, sensorial experience made me feel like I was at a day spa instead of sitting in the middle of a busy store. Claudiavel then applied Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet, a lovely-scented crème she highly recommends for almost every skin type. She followed with Clinique All About Eyes so my makeup wouldn’t fall into my laugh lines. In keeping with that day spa vibe, Claudiavel massaged my face with both applications. All that was missing was a glass of wine.

With my skin clean and moisturized, it was time to find my perfect foundation match. Using the Color IQ tool, I learned that my number is 1Y07, which means I have light skin with yellow undertones. Claudiavel helped me search the database to find the foundations that would suit me best. (It was at this point that I also learned I’ve been wearing too-dark shades my entire life. Chic!)

Another product Claudiavel swears works for just about everybody: the Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer. This bestselling product is formulated to even out your skin’s texture—perfect for my oily complexion.

Using the SEPHORA COLLECTION Pro Flawless Airbrush #56, Claudiavel blended my Color IQ foundation pick: the Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation Mattifying Oil Free in Ivory. This foundation goes on as a liquid but transforms into a velvety, oil-absorbing powder once dry. I was worried the formula would also strip my skin of natural moisture, but Claudiavel assured me it would only target sebum. (Fast forward to six hours later: She was right. The only thing getting sucked off my skin was oil.)

Claudiavel used her fingers to cover my under-eye area with more foundation, suggesting I only need to break out the concealer if I’m having skin issues my foundation just won’t cover. Also, she explained that using your fingers warms the product so it goes on more naturally.

Sorry/not sorry to brag, but I looked great all day. I ran into my boyfriend’s mom, who immediately remarked that my skin had a healthy glow. Also, my gorgeous coworkers, unaware I’d had a Mini Makeover, heavily complimented me—which is really all the affirmation I need.

Clearly, Claudiavel knew what she was talking about—the products she picked out were perfect for me. But beyond getting personalized makeup recommendations, my favorite part of the experience was taking 15 minutes out of my day to pamper myself. This small time investment had a huge payoff: My good mood lasted long after I took the makeup off. Regular trips to a day spa aren’t in the cards for me, but for the low price of $0, a Sephora Mini Makeover is something I can swing.
