I know you don’t want to jump to conclusions historians, but really?
(Best part about the woman buried with a weapon? A huge heavy rock was placed on top of her because people were terrified of her returning from the grave. The slave she was buried with had no such stone on top of him)
So I was recently watching party comments/reactions for certain thingies for DA2, and I came across a very crazy realization.
So when the whole party is being blood magicked by Idunna, the craziest things happened. So like - when Hawke asks these guys what the hell is wrong with them because they’re telling him to take it easy on her, all of the party members are like - naaaahhh just be gentle, she’s nice and we shouldn’t be hard on her - ALL EXCEPT for the mages…
So I was like - DA FUCK. All the mages are like - “Woah, what the hell am I saying, this lady is doing something weird, Hawke.” And everyone who isn’t a mage is like - “take it easy, she’s had it rough blah blah”, EXCEPT for Fenris! When Hawke is like, “what the hell is wrong with you?” Fenris is like “I-I don’t know, be careful.”
Why is he the only non-mage who doesn’t get fooled or enchanted (all the way) by this blood mage?
Obviously the answer is because he has those markings - BUT do you realize what this means!? You guys - this means Fenris’s connection to the fade is as strong as a mage’s.
Those lyrium markings don’t just affect his physical abilities, but his entire body is wired like a mage’s. He’s just as connected to the fade - Fenris just isn’t marked by lyrium - he IS lyrium. Woooaaahh. So basically - because lyrium exists in the fade just as much as in reality - his abilities actually give them the ability to phase into the fade.
THAT’S WHAT HE’S DOING WHEN HE PHASES.
He’s phasing in and out of the fade!
That also means that if he basically has that ability, then he should be able to physically travel between the two worlds. HEHEHE.
This also means that if he is lyrium, he should be able to hear and understand the song of both blue and red lyrium. (I’ll get to that significance another time).
What this also means, that if you for some insane reason, chose to have your Hawke “die” in the fade (the creators said that whoever was left in there isn’t necessarily dead) then Fenris is actually the only person (now that the Inquisitor had their arm chopped off) that is capable of saving him.
If Fenris is this perfect blend of a living lyrium catalyst, he could successfully enter the fade and get Hawke out of there. I firmly believe that if that was studied more than he would be able to do it. As Danarius had wanted of his slave, Fenris was basically a limitless supply of lyrium for his magic.(Again, how this is done I will get into another time).
Another thing that made me stop and turn to look at Fenris a couple times is his insane ability to feel the veil. Though they could be just offhand comments, I somehow doubt that. The example I’m referring to here is his comment as you walk on the Bone Pit for the first time. Fenris says: “Many slaves died here, their cries linger in the stone.” But if you recall from any Dragon Age lore, we all know that the veil is thin where great tragedy struck, such as war, murder, and of course the slaughtering of many innocent slaves. It’s obvious that what Fenris is “hearing” is the cries of the spirits who are mimicking the deaths of those slaves that were slaughtered. But the only way one could hear that, would be if they could actually feel the veil, much like any other mage who is attuned to the Fade. Fenris is just as attuned to it, and he shows this time and time again.
Of course he could just be being epic, but again, I doubt that, as that’s a pretty amazing comment for someone who isn’t a mage.
I’m also piecing this together in the aspect about this - after Fenris sleeps with Hawke, he says he’s was able to recall his memories. I think by now that us FenHawke shippers have a canon that Fenris’s markings light up during “intense” moments, but think about this. What if the reason why Fenris is able to recall his memories at that time is because his lyrium is allowing him to brief the fade? What if those markings bring him ever closer to the fade, to a point where spirits would begin to take the shape of his memories that he so desperately wants back? That would explain why he was able to recall those memories, even though his mind had been wiped, and also why he immediately forgot them once they had stopped.
Now, I know you must be thinking “wait - wouldn’t that mean that Fenris would be able to recall his memories every time he lit up to tear someone’s heart out?”
No, not necessarily.
I’m a huge fan of the idea that spirits of compassion, though rare, tend to seek those that are searching and looking for something. While Fenris fights, that’s obviously not pleasurable, and his mind isn’t focused on the things he wants.
However, I believe that while he and Hawke slept together, that was a moment of intense want. He wanted something, and his mind was in a place where coupled with that intense emotion, his lyrium linked to the fade. In this instance, it wouldn’t be too surprising that a spirit came along and generously allowed him to recall his memories.
I like this theory, and I think that, out of some of the ones I’ve heard, this is nicely simple and would explain a lot of his power.
I’ll keep adding to this if I find more proof!
(Also, if you’d like, I’ve posted a theory on how this plays a part in Hawke’s rescue. Check it out)
So like all of my other series please tell me if you guys like it! I do really want to continue this but if you guys don’t like it there’s no point in continuing it. Please enjoy this and tell me what you guys think. If there isn’t much interest I may stop writing it and start on something else. Thanks!!!!
On this day in music history: September 19, 1980 - “Stone Jam”, the fifth album by Slave is released. Produced by Jimmy Douglass, Steve Washington, Charles Carter and Mark Adams, it is recorded at Atlantic Studios in New York City from May - July 1980. Firing on all cylinders creatively after the success of their previous album “Just A Touch Of Love”, Slave return to the studio in the Spring of 1980 to record the follow up. Along with recording engineer and producer Jimmy Douglass and fellow band member Steve Washington, bassist Mark “The Hansolor” Adams and saxophonist Charles Carter also take an active role in the production of the new album. Adams along with most of the band co-writes all eight tracks on “Stone Jam”. Topped by the distinctive and immediately recognizable vocals of lead singer and drummer Steve Arrington, often in tandem with vocalist Starleana Young, Slave emerge with what many regard as their best and most fully realized album. Led by the instant classic “Watching You” (#6 R&B, #78 Pop), it becomes their best selling release since their self-titled debut three years earlier. Over time, “Watching You” is widely sampled and interpolated into other R&B and rap songs. Its first use comes by way of the R&B/Disco band Odyssey who borrow the bass line for their own hit “Inside Out” (#12 R&B, #25 Club Play, #3 UK) in 1982, which was also produced by Jimmy Douglass and features Steve Arrington on drums. Snoop Dogg also uses the hook for “Watching” on “Gin And Juice” and “Let’s Get Blown”, and is also sampled by De La Soul, Ghostface Killer, Dru Down and EPMD to name a few. It also spins off two other singles including “Feel My Love” (#62 R&B) and “Sizzlin’ Hot” (#57 R&B), though other songs on the album including “Starting Over” and the title track also become fan favorites. “Stone Jam” is remastered and makes its long awaited CD debut in 1997 by Rhino Records, featuring liner notes by musicologist, educator and author Rickey Vincent (“Funk: The Music, The People, And The Rhythm Of The One”) and three additional bonus tracks. “Stone Jam” peaks at number five on the Billboard R&B album chart, number fifty three on the Top 200, and certified Gold in the US by the RIAA.

Life/ How He came to Islam:
Abu Huraira RA was from Ad Daws- a tribe from yemen, notorious for all the wrong things: it was the center for adultery, idols, and ribbah during Jahiliyyah
Islam was introduced to Ad Daws through Tuffayil Ibnu Amr RA who met the Messenger SAW on his visit to Makkah
Abu Huraira was the only young man who accepted Tufayyil’s message the first time he preached (Tufayyil RA returned to Makkah with only Abu Huraira as the only acceptant (apart from his family) and then went back to preach a second time with a duaa from the Prophet SAW)
Abu Huraira helped call people to Islam with Tufayyil Ibn Amr RA in Ad Daws
Joined the Prophet SAW at the age of 33, four years before the death of the Prophet SAW
He brought with him to Makkah his Non-Muslim mother and purchased a house near the Miqat, Dhul Hulayfah. He placed his mother in this home
After he told his mother about his conversion she cursed him and the Messenger SAW after which Abu Huraira began to cry. He narrates that he cried for two reasons: because he was scared she would be punished and because he felt bad for her
He went to Rasulullah SAW and asked for his mother to be guided. When he went back to the house, she had turned on the water to make ghusul and shouted the Shahadah
Abu Huraira RA asked the Prophet SAW, “Make duaa to Allah that my mother and I become beloved to all the good people”. He RA later narrates that “Wallahi no Muslim ever saw me or my mother except that they loved us”
Every single morning while leaving the house, Abu Huraira would be heard saying to his mother, “Ya Ummah, Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Baraktuh, Rahimakillah kama rabayani sageera”(Oh my Mother, May the peace and blessings of Allah SWT be upon you. May Allah have mercy on you as you have raised me when I was young)
And every single morning His (RA) mother would reply, “Ya bonayya, Wa Alaikumus salam wa rahmatulllahi Wa Barakth, ghafaraallahu laka kama barartani kabira”( May Allah have mercy on you as you have obeyed me and served me in my old age)
After his mother passed away, Abu Huraira RA gave his house away in charity and joined the people who are known as Ahlus-Sufah- simple people who slept and stayed at the back of masjid. This group was made up of the poor people of medina and were loved by the prophet SAW and the companions
He joined Ahlus-sufah so he could shadow the Prophet SAW without any distractions
When he got hungry, he did odd jobs to feed himself and then went back to his normal routine
Abu Huraira RA narrates: I would be so hungry that I wouldn’t be able to move”
Met and talked to the Shaytaan who told him that reciting Ayatul kursi before sleeping would protect him from the devil and any dangers
Imam As Shafii RA said Abu Huraira RA used to sit from Fajr to Zuhur every single day reciting every single Hadith of the prophet with precision even until his 70’s
Read some form of tasbeeh 12000 times a day- had a rope to count his utterances
Abu Huraira RA remained alive after the Prophet SAW had passed
He RA knew something about the future political situation that he kept from the people out of fear
Made duaa not be alive after year 60 of Hijrah
His RA family would divide the night into 3 parts- the first part his daughter would pray, the second part his wife would pray, and the third night Abu Huraira RA would pray
Once he RA complained to the Prophet SAW, “Oh Messenger, I hear a lot of hadith and I forget. I try to memorize everything you’re saying and I forget. The Prophet SAW asked for his cloak and read bismillah on it three times and told Abu Huraira RA to put the cloak back on again. Abu Huraira narrates, “I swear by Allah besides whom there is no God I never forgot a letter after that incident”
Accomplishments as a Muslim:

I have to confess, I was never prepared for how much my Master would give me. In every day in so many ways, he shows me how much he adds to my life, and I am so grateful.
In my previous post about the language of submission, I spoke about the theory of “The Language of Love”, which has been written about by relationship counselor Gary Chapman. To tell it in detail; he posited that there are basically five emotional love languages - five ways that people speak and understand emotional love. And healthy relationships thrive on speaking the same language your partner understands. These are:
Words of Affirmation: Expressing affection through spoken affection, praise, or appreciation.
Acts of Service: Actions, rather than words, are used to show and receive love.
Receiving Gifts: Gifting is symbolic of love and affection.
Quality Time: Expressing affection with undivided, undistracted attention.
Physical Touch: It can be sex or holding hands. With this love language, the speaker feels affection through physical touch.
And why do I write about this now? Because I have discovered… I have a Master that is speaking all five. On every level he is communicating his love and desire for me. Just as he said he would… he is leaving no stone unturned in his pursuit of bettering our relationship. The five ways are all there:
Every day, in so many ways, he tells me such appreciative, loving things, and I am honored to receive his praise. (Affirmation)
Every day he does something tangible; be it a video made for me; a photograph. A post. Whatever he can do at this distance, he does. (Service)
I cannot begin to count the physical gifts he has bestowed on me. I am a lucky, lucky slave. He has even contributed to my latest growth cycle. (Gifts)
We Skype every day; there isn’t a moment of our day we aren’t in touch when we can, if we aren’t working or asleep. He includes me in his day, and I make sure he is in mine. (Quality time)
Physically, we are separated for awhile longer. But we are sensual despite the distance. And when we are together, we are always hands-on. (Touch).
So you see… nothing is missed. I am fulfilled and loved in every way it is possible to experience it. And there is yet more I could say… how he includes me in his household. How he takes time to help me when I feel stressed and struggling.
I am still learning which language he understands most directly, so I can give more of myself as a slave. But following his example… I will leave no stone unturned. I will give more and more until he feels the same amount of love that I do. He is so very worth it.
Artist unknown, Roman, Eastern Mediterranean, 2nd-3rd century, Stone mosaic and glass tesserae.
About to lose possession of the concubine Briseis to Agamemnon, Achilles sits morosely, leaning his head on his hand. This contest between two great Greek warriors set in motion the rest of Homer’s epic poem, the Iliad. Achilles’ companion Patroclus is on the far left, and an elderly bearded man, probably Phoenix, stands beside him in the center of this fragmentary Roman mosaic. Only Briseis’s face remains, just to the right of Phoenix; the rest of her body has been largely destroyed. At the right, partially preserved, are the two heralds who will take the slave girl to Agamemnon.
The Romans made mosaics from tesserae, tiny cubes of stone or occasionally other materials, set into a bed of mortar. They used mosaics to cover the floors in wealthy private homes and public buildings. Roman mosaics show strong regional differences; this example appears to have originated in the eastern Mediterranean in the 100s A.D. Mosaics in the formerly Greek areas of the eastern Mediterranean often depicted complex mythological themes such as this one.
touch me!” & “Because nobody cares about me!”) Hope you like!
It’s a whisper, a rumor, moving
from person to person until it finally reaches Aveline’s ear. She cannot afford
sending guards to chase some errant gossip. So she sends it to the only person
she can. Hawke is more than eager to investigate, staff on her shoulders,
humming as they walk along the Wounded Coast. Wrists resting on wood, fingers
tapping out some hidden beat. Closing her eyes, tilting her head back, smiling
at the scent of sea air, the last warm breath of afternoon.
Rumor or not, Fenris is
agitated. There’s an itch at the base of his spine, slowly coiling its way
upwards. Rolling his shoulders, squeezing his hands into fists. Eyes closing
for a much different reason, trying to chain the thoughts loose inside his
head. The caverns had been empty.
Empty until Hadriana. Then the slavers saw new purpose in old hideouts, and the
number of missing people in Kirkwall had been steadily rising. Thoughts tumble,
his stomach rolls, the guilt tightens around his chest. His fault. His presence
had brought Hadriana.
Hawke expects the caverns to be
empty. They have been in every other lead they’ve chased down, the cobwebs
still clinging to the cells. Varric expects to find slavers to kill – scouts perhaps,
maybe even rescue a person or two. Anders thinks they’ll be long gone, leaving
behind the sick and wounded who could not walk fast enough. Instead, they find
a tomb. Staff clutched tight in her hands as Hawke steps over a long cold body.
With a heavy heart, she lights the torches. The fire crackles ever loudly in
Varric sighs, puts Bianca back
on his back. Rubbing at his temple, sighing again and again. “Well,” he says, “that’s
that.” Anders is kneeling down beside one of the corpses, frown etched tight
across his face. “We should let Aveline know.” Fenris stands at the very center
of the room, sword barely held in his hand. Varric and Anders are already
heading for the entrance. Hawke bites her bottom lip, steps towards him. The
coil has tightened, rigid and straight, and he cannot move.
“Fenris, we should go,” Hawke
says, reaching out towards him. Her hand touches his shoulder and the coil
“Don’t touch me!” He says with
a snarl, stepping away from her. Hawke snatches her hand back as though burned,
clutching it against her chest.
“There’s nothing we could have
done,” she tells him.
“We should have been here
sooner,” he stalks towards her, the anger plain in his throat, “Aveline should
have come the moment there was word!”
“No one could confirm it. She’s
busy enough as it is dealing with the city,” Hawke says.
“Lies.” He says it as he turns
away from her, sword finally slipping from his grasp, rattling against stone. “It
is because they are slaves. Slaves are nothing.” He moves to bend down to pick
up his sword. He goes to his knees instead. Bending over, picking up a bloody
doll. A child’s plaything. “No one cares.” Hawke slowly lowers her staff to the
He flinches at first, when he
feels her hands on his shoulders. Pausing for a moment, a moment more, before
she moves again. Wrapping her arms around his neck, her chest pressed against
his back. Warm and holding fast, the bite of his gauntlets pressing into the
doll. Her head beside his, nosing gently against his temple. “We care Fenris. I care. About them, about y-” she stops
herself. “We’ll find them next time. This won’t happen again.”
He places the doll back down,
not on stone, but in the hands of its owner. He reaches up, wraps a hand around
one of Hawke’s wrists. He lets her breathing lead him, calm him, guiding back
to some semblance of normalcy. Varric and Anders exchange glances, but do not
ask, when they finally join them.
Fenris crosses his arms and waits for Hawke
outside of Aveline’s office. Hawke doesn’t understand. Not completely. How
could she when he won’t tell her what he thinks (his fault, his fault)? She doesn’t know, but she guesses. She does
enough. She cares. She smiles at him when they’re finally done, as she closes
the door behind her.
Held Gaze: Bob and Alice have been spending a lot of time together, causing people to comment on their relationshipbut so far nothing has resulted from it. Often though, they will find themselves gazing deeply into each other’s eyes, one indication of their UST. This can often precede an Almost Kiss, as this is usually what is happening before that. If this is an extremely intense gaze into the other’s eyes, this might be an indication that a Big Damn Kiss is on the horizon.
So something I noticed during my third viewing of Guardians of the Galaxy is that every time some major shit went down, Peter and Gamora looked at each other first. As in, “oh shit, we’re about to get shot or get our asses kicked, are you ready to fight?” Seriously, I don’t even think they noticed it. It was totally unconscious, but it starts right after Peter talks Drax down from killing her. It’s kind of amazing.
I mean, they’ve known each other a matter of hours and they slowly starting building this unsaid attachment. Let me show you some examples:
When the slave girl at the Collector’s place went for the Infinity Stone, Gamora immediately tackles Peter out of harm’s way.
When Ronan shows up after Drax called him, they look at each other and then both bolt.
Gamora is the first person to catch Peter’s gaze and commit to dying among her friends when he gives them his 12% plan.
Once the smoke clears and Ronan is still alive after his ship crashes, Peter and Gamora still meet eyes first as they revel in the horror and try to figure out what to do.
Peter “throws it” to Gamora while he’s dancing (and my God, that might’ve been the funniest scene she had when she just honestly shook her head.) to distract Ronan while Rocket reassembled the device to take him down.
Gamora was the first to take Peter’s hand after he grabbed the stone, even though she knew she would probably die by doing so.
After they killed Ronan and saved the day, there was a seriously heavy gaze and they might have even shared a little victory kiss if Yondu hadn’t interrupted them.
Yet again, we have that strong gaze after Peter says Yondu was probably the only family he had and Gamora says that’s not true.
After Peter reads his mother’s letter and puts on Awesome Mix 2, there is this incredibly sweet, fond look and smile between the two of them as they listen to the music.
I love that this thing between them is just a thread. It’s not a huge romantic plot tumor. It’s a tease. It’s a taste of what might develop into something in later movies, and in a movie where NOTHING is subtle, I think it’s fantastic that their chemistry has actual layers to it. He comes on strong at first, but then you notice that he sees past the beauty and the anger in Gamora and realizes she’s worth fighting and dying for. Aside from the gut-busting one-liners, I think this Held Gaze theme might be my favorite thing in the movie.
Ahem. Or I’m just a dork who thinks too much. Either way, these two idiots make me unspeakably happy.
ah this is one of my favourite things to talk about! I’d say my most favourite is swim deep, but I like peace, JAWS, catfish and the bottlemen, circa waves, arctic monkeys, blossoms, alt-J, the kooks, foals, RATBOY, Declan McKenna, sundara karma, slaves, the 1975, tame impala, the stone roses, the smiths, the magic gang, Jamie T, mooseblood, the night cafe, oasis and others I can’t think of right now haha :))

The room was dead silent. The atmosphere was dark and ominous as they looked at each other in the dark room. No one dared speak a word to not disturb the quiet they all needed in that moment. As dread started to set in for everyone in the room a figure stood up banged their fist against the cold table, but no one flinched or looked up. They sat in their seats, looking at the ground.
“Damn it. Fuck, this wasn’t supposed to go like this! We fucked up.” The voice bounced off the walls in an otherwise quiet room, making their voice echo.
One day, Imam Zayn al-`Abideen (as) went out into the desert, and his servant followed him. The servant found his Imam (as) prostrating upon rough stones. The slave heard his sobbing and his crying. He counted the Imam (as) say the following supplication one thousand times: “There is no god except Allah, truly truly. There is no god except Allah, in worship and in servitude. There is no god except Allah, in faith and in sincerity.”
The Imam (as) then raised his head from prostration, and his beard and his face were drenched in tears from his eyes. The servant asked: “My Master, is it not time that your grief ends and your crying reduces?”
Imam Zayn al-`Abideen (as) replied: “Woe to you. Jacob b. Isaac b. Abraham (as) was a prophet and a son of a prophet. He had twelve sons, and Allah swt caused one of his sons to disappear - so the hair of his head turned white due to grief, and his back bent due to sorrow, and his eyesight was lost due to crying, all while his son was alive in the world. Yet, I saw my father, my brother, and seventeen members of my family lying dead. So, how can my grief and crying end?”
