Santa Specials return to the Railway this weekend. The last one operated on 26th December 2008.
It could have been the last day ever for the Railway but we fought our closure and won!
Here’s Triumph at Sittingbourne Viaduct on that fateful day.
On a sad note, Triumph’s driver that day, Keith Twyman, passed away peacefully earlier this month. Keith loved driving Triumph, which was taken out of service for overhaul after that last day in 2008, and will be sorely missed by everyone at the Railway.
Book now for this year’s Santa Specials - some trains are full so call 01795 428269 now to book your seats! There’s a present from Santa for the kids and seasonal refreshments for the adults.
Santa Specials depart Sittingbourne Viaduct station every Saturday & Sunday until Christmas. Priced at £12 for those over 3 years and £9.50 for those under - this is a great, affordable treat in the run up to Christmas.
SKLR Picture of the Day: Kemsley Paper Mill has evolved considerably since the 1920s. Just in this view we can see the white chimneys of the gas-fired power station which replaced the coal-fired facility. The line used to continue through to Ridham Dock where ships and barges would arrive with raw materials and leave with paper products. Ridham Dock is still operational but I don’t have any pictures of it in my collection.
